Michael Phillips

LAKE HELEN, Fla. - Mr. Michael Wayne Phillips, 36, of Ranch Road died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Phillips was a son of the late Jessie Mae Boone. Mr. Phillips was a self-employed cabinet maker.

Surviving are four sons, John Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Charles Phillips and Joshua Phillips, all of Albemarle; his daughter, Lisa Phillips of Rock Hill; his parents, Opal and Noah Phillips of Rock Hill; three sisters, Susan Phillips of Columbia, Lori Dacanay of Salt Lake City and Michelle Bagley of Myrtle Beach; and his paternal grandmother, Thelma Phillips of Rock Hill.

Haigh-Black Funeral Home in Daytona, Fla., is in charge.

Rudolph Rainey

YORK - Mr. Rudolph "Poodle" Rainey, 82, of White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, formerly of York, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery in York.

A native of Sharon, Mr. Rainey was a son of the late Major Rainey and Anne Rainey. He attended St. John Baptist Church in Sharon and Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York. He was retired from the former Cannon Mills in York.

Surviving are seven sons, Rudolph Rainey Jr. of Morristown, N.J., Robert Rainey, Jeffrey Rainey, Claude Rainey, John Sharp, and Charles Crawford, all of York, and Billy Crawford of Washington; two daughters, Rose Reid of York and Mamie Wells of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Rose Reid, Baytree Apartments, York.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Kenneth Thomas

ATHENS, Ga. - Mr. Kenneth J. Thomas, 73, of Athens died July 20, 1999.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oconee Memorial Park in Watkinsville, Ga., with the Rev. Bob Murphy officiating.

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mr. Thomas was a son of the late Fred Thomas and Annie Phillips Thomas. He was the retired owner of GiGi's Restaurant in Covington, Ga., and recently retired from Mail Carries Inc. He was a former resident of Hickory Grove, York and Watkinsville. He was a member of Johnson United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Winifred Preston Thomas; two sons, Jim Thomas of Lilburn, Ga., and Ron Thomas of Fayetteville, Ga.; his stepdaughter, Ann Sweetser of Athens; his stepson, Jim Aycock of Watkinsville, Ga.; his sister, Gale Propst of York; his brother, Gene Childer of Union; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel, Watkinsville.

Memorials may be made to Johnson Methodist Church, 1050 Malcom Bridge Road, Bogart, GA 30622.

Ella Williams

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Mrs. Ella Price Garner Williams, formerly of Chester, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Halseyville Community in Chester County.

The family will be at the home of her brother, Floyd Price Jr., 3438 West End Road, Carlisle.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Ida Barnett

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ida Barnett, 102, of 1117 Castle St. died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lillian Washington officiating and the Rev. W.G. Boulware. The Rev. Jerry L. Gadsden will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mrs. Barnett was a daughter of the late Ossie and Janie Miller Lathan. She was the widow of James Barnett. She attended the public schools of York County. She was a practical nurse specializing in infant care. She joined New Hope United Methodist Church at an early age and later was a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church, where she served in the United Methodist Women, and honorary member of the board of trustees.

Surviving are her sister, Maggie Barber of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home and the body will be placed in the church at noon Friday.

The family will be at the home of Mary L. Tate, 928 Martin Ave., Rock Hill.

Mamie Cash

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mamie Rumfelt Cash, 83, of 1046 Ebenezer Ave. Ext. died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of McConnells, Mrs. Cash was homemaker and member of College Park Baptist Church. She formerly worked as a nursing assistant at York General Hospital.

Surviving are three sons, David Cash and Robert Cash, both of Rock Hill, and Jesse Cash of Fort Mill; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, David Cash, 1050 Chris Court, Rock Hill.

William Croft

CHESTER - Mr. William Brice Croft, 93, of 106 Brawley St. died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Kosciusko, Miss., Mr. Croft was a son of the late Thomas Henry Croft and Aletha Ann Hughs Croft. He was the widower of Sara Ann Younce Croft. He was a owner and operator of Croft's Grocery. He was a graduate of the Agricultural Academy in Mississippi. He was a longtime Chester merchant who came to Chester in 1939 and was employed with Dixie Home Stores. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Surviving are three daughters, Lib Croft of Columbia, Ann C. King of Chester and Frances C. Hancock of Rock Hill; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Mamie Isom

YORK - Mrs. Mamie Brown Isom, 78, of 11 Watts St. died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church, with the Ronnie Baxter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Isom was a daughter of the late Thomas Brown and Mamie Monroe Brown. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Newport, where she was a member of the senior choir and the AP&B Society.

Surviving are six sons, Thomas Isom and James Isom, both of Charlotte, Odell Isom, Robert Isom, and Grady Isom, all of York, and Bobby Isom of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home her son, Bobby Isom, 1929 Londonberry Drive, Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

Mary Long

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Lena Moss Long, 68, of 2866 Starnes Drive died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Harvest Ministries, with the Revs. Richard Pitts, Gary Atkins, and J.C. Ayers officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Long was a daughter of the late Haskell Blakley Moss and Viola Caldwell Moss. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School. Mrs. Long was a member of Touching Lives Ministries, where she was past clerk, treasurer and missionary leader. She was employed by Smith Enterprises.

Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Buster E. Long; three sons, Daniel E. Long of Jacksonville, Fla., Michieul Long of Vale, N.C., and Timothy Long of Bonneau; two brothers, Haskell Moss of Rock Hill and Jerry L. Moss of Sharon; seven sisters, Ella Mae Gee of Forest City, N.C., Naomi Satterfield of York, Cora Campbell of Chester, Lovine Moss, Jewell Moss, Jackie Moss-Bagley, and Ruth Sherer, all of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Charles Martin Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Charles S. Martin Jr., 79, of 514 Briarwood Road died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Needham Williamson and William R. Kinnett. Burial with military honors will be at Waco Memorial Park in Waco, Texas.

A native of Waco, Texas, Mr. Martin was a son of the late Charles S. and Annie Lois Brown Martin Sr. Mr. Martin was retired director of consumer products for Springs Industries. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University. He was a member of the Lancaster Rotary Club, where he served as treasurer from 1979 to 1980 and president from 1981 to 1982. Mr. Martin was former vice president for the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Lancaster Medical Endowment and the Elliott White Springs Memorial Hospital, where he served as chairman from 1978 to 1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Distinguished Service Cross, British Military Cross and the Purple Heart with Clusters. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Gene Wemple Martin; two daughters, Pam McCutchin of Dallas, and Cindy Milhalko of Chesapeake, Va.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Pauline Myers

YORK - Mrs. Pauline C. Myers, 85, of 111 S. Congress St. died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald A. Lowery officiating.

A native of Lowmoor, Va., Mrs. Myers was a homemaker and the widow of John H. Myers. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the Thursday Afternoon Book Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane Myers Black and Jeanne Myers Ferguson, both of York; five grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Ferguson Jr., 1363 Sharon Road, York.

Lucille Richardson

MONCKS CORNER - Mrs. Lucille Johnson Richardson, 58, of Moncks Corner, formerly of Chester, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Fellowship Church in Bonneau. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Richardson was a daughter of the late Joe Johnson and Ruby Woods Johnson. She graduated from Finley High School in Chester and attended Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Chester, and she attended the Christian Fellowship Church.

Surviving are her husband, Benjamin Richardson Sr.; two sons, Benjamin Richardson Jr. and Lamont Richardson, both of Georgia; two daughters, Yolonda Richardson of the home and Yvette Shakkas of Georgia; her brother, John E. Johnson of Charlotte; three sisters, Barbara Johnson Waters of Charlotte, Jaqueline Bowser and Edwyna Johnson, both of Chester; and two grandchildren.

Milligan's Funeral Home, New Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461, is in charge

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., is in charge of local arrangements.

Liyah Smith & Lamaya Smith

YORK - Liyah and Lamaya Smith, infant twin daughters of Jasmine Neely of York and Darrin Smith of Rock Hill died Monday, July 19, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The graveside service will 6 p.m. today at Uniondale Cemetery, with the Rev. Terrance Sadler officiating.

Surviving in addition to their parents are two brothers, De'Andre Neely and Shyheim Neely, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Ricky and Mary Shannon of York; and paternal grandparents, Melody Fee of Rock Hill and Fred Smith of Sumter.

Thompson Funeral Home in York is in charge.

Christine Southworth

CHESTER - Mrs. Christine Mawyer Southworth, 83, of 687 Parkway Drive died Monday, July 19, 1999, at the home of her son.

A private memorial service will be at a later date in Virginia.

A native of Charlottesville, Va., Mrs. Southworth was a daughter of the late John Mawyer and Nora Jane Pugh Mawyer. She was retired from the Leggett Co. of Virginia as a sales representative.

Surviving are her son, John O. Southworth of Chester; and two grandchildren.

Wright's Home for Funerals is in charge.

George Watts

GREAT FALLS - Mr. George Howard Watts, 64, of 205 Chester Avenue died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Dorn Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Columbia.

The graveside service with full military rites will be 11 a.m. Friday at Catholic Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William Mitchell officiating.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Watts was a son of the late G.B.T. Watts and Mildred Dixon Watts. He was a member of Catholic Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and attended Presbyterian College. Mr. Watts was retired from the Air Force.

Surviving are aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 6368 Old Winnsboro Road, Blackstock, SC 29014.
