LANCASTER - Mr. Gregory "Greg" Whitaker, 26, of 2166 Pheasant Road died Monday, July 19, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mike Hammond and R.B. Ashley officiating.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Whitaker was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his parents, Tommy Francis Whitaker and Linda A. Whitaker of Lancaster; and three brothers, Tobias "Toby" Whitaker, T.J. Whitaker and Matthew Whitaker, all of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Eva Beaty

APOPKA, Fla. - Mrs. Eva Dell Walters Beaty, 86, of Martin Street, formerly of Chester, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Apopka Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.

A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Mrs. Beaty was school dietitian in South Carolina and the Orange County, Fla. schools. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Apopka.

Surviving are three sons, Frank C. Beaty of Apopka, and Harold Ray Beaty and David L. Beaty, both of Chester; her brother, Ben Walters of Matthews, N.C.; and her sister, Helen Mills of Matthews; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 601 N. Park Ave., Apopka, Fla. is in charge.

Kathleen Brock

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Kathleen Gainey Brock, 80, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Baker officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rowland, N.C., Mrs. Brock was a daughter of the late Jim Gainey and Florence Henrietta Pate Gainey. She was the widow of Ross Brock. She worked as a spinner for more than 15 years with Industrial Mills, Gold Tex and Red River Yarns. She attended Harvest Ministries Church of God.

Surviving are her son, Charles Brock of Rock Hill; three daughters, Vera Ghant of Rock Hill, Helen Morris of Ellabelle, Ga., and Frances Owensby of Columbia; five brothers, Willie P. Brock of Tampa, Fla., Eddie Brock of Unit, Archie Brock of Chester, Joe Brock of Charlotte and Ernest Brock of Rock Hill; 33 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Margie Cagle

LANCASTER - Mrs. Margie Kathlene Cagle, 63, of 1925 Usher Road died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Anders and Ansel Smith officiating. Burial will be at Zion Methodist Church cemetery in Pageland.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Cagle was a daughter of the late Brutus Cagle and Estelle Boone Cagle. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Julie Starnes of Lancaster; three sisters, Bonnie Miller, Nancy Hyatt and Sylvia Truesdale, all of Lancaster; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Nancy Hyatt, 105 Azalea Road, Lancaster.

Mary Caldwell

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Ms. Mary Elizabeth Caldwell, 43, of 505 Lincoln Place died July 20, 1999, at Kings County Hospital.

The funeral will be at Greater Free Gift Baptist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Joe A. Carter officiating. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Newark, N.J.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Caldwell was a daughter of the late Dorothy Dewese and William Burris. She was educated in the Rock Hill schools.

Surviving are seven children, Tammy, Mary, Kim, Caridad, Latoya, Khasieff and Ahnieff, all of Brooklyn; three brothers, Charles Caldwell and Freddie Caldwell, both of East Orange, N.J., and William Burris of Rock Hill; nine sisters, Sarah Thompson, Mary Smith, Caroline Burris, Linda Burris, Daphne Hicks, Connie Burris, Sheila Burris and Monique Burris, all of Rock Hill, and Ellen Brown of York; and two grandchildren.

Bell Funeral Home, 536 Sterling Place, Brooklyn, N.Y. is in charge.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Fred Diamond

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Fred Edward Diamond, 89, of Rock Hill died Monday, July 19, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The memorial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. E. Ray Mohrmann and Tim Boan officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Diamond was retired from Roberts and Porter Chemical Co. in Chicago. He was a member of the Frank Roach American Legion Post 34 in Rock Hill and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Sara Z. Diamond and his niece.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Evelyn Howell

CLOVER - Mrs. Evelyn Hay Howell, 75, of 458 Thomas Road died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at M.L. Ford and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alan Morrow officiating. Burial will be at Bethany ARP Church cemetery.

A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Mrs. Howell was a daughter of the late Andrew Hill Hay and Isabelle Lister of Hay. She was the widow of Robert Grady Howell. Mrs. Howell was a veteran of World War II and served in the British Army in air traffic control. A retired homemaker and seamstress, she was a member of Bethany ARP Church.

Surviving are her son, Robert Meek Howell of Clover; her daughter, Linda H. Currence of Clover; her brother, Ted Hay of Edinburgh; her sister, Cathie Hay of Edinburgh; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Meeky Howell, 470 Thomas Road, Clover.

Henry Love

YORK - Mr. Henry James Love, 73, of York died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis McCleave officiating and the Revs. Rose M. Evans and Keith Hunter assisting. Burial will be at Hopewell United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of McConnells, Mr. Love was a son of the late Columbus Love and Bessie Jamison Love. He was a York County Courthouse maintenance worker for more than 30 years.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Love; six daughters, Henrietta Brown Jamison, Betty Miller Grier and Madelene Williams, all of York, Annie Belk and Daisy Love, both of Charlotte, and Emma Mills of Union Mills; two brothers, Walter Love of Gastonia, N.C., and William Columbus Love of McConnells; 12 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

Pauline Myers

YORK - Mrs. Pauline C. Myers, 85, of 111 S. Congress St. died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald A. Lowery officiating.

A native of Lowmoor, Va., Mrs. Myers was a homemaker and the widow of John H. Myers. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the Thursday Afternoon Book Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane Myers Black and Jeanne Myers Ferguson, both of York; five grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Ferguson Jr., 1363 Sharon Road, York.

Ellen Phillips

CHESTER - Miss Ellen Lenora "Fat Back" Phillips, 40, of 100 Arbor Court died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe Lee officiating. Burial will be at Second Wilson Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Miss Phillips was the daughter of Clarence Phillips and Constance Wright Phillips of Chester. She was a former employee of Springs Industries. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She attended Chester High School.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her son, Marlon Phillips of Chester; three daughters, Miranda Minter, Tara Phillips and Heidi Phillips, all of the home; four sisters, Janet Price of the home, Barbara Fuller, Tasha Brown and Francine Brown, all of Philadelphia; and her maternal grandmother, Josie L. Wright of Chester.

The family will receive friends at home and at 119 Caldwell St.

The body will taken to the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lawrence Sailors

SHELBY, N.C. - Mr. Lawrence Dean Sailors, 62, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Earl, N.C., with the Rev. David Gordon officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Cleveland County, Mr. Sailors was a son of the late John Ernest Sailors Sr. and Anna Mae Hollifield Sailors. He was retired from the Duke Power Company's Catawba Nuclear Station.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he was in the choir, a deacon, former Sunday school superintendent and a member of the shut-in tape ministry and New Hope Men's Quartet.

He was a member of the Senior Center and the No. 3 Ruitan Club.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ann Francis Sailors; two sons, Derek Sailors and Gregory Sailors, both of the home; two brothers, J.E. Sailors of Vale and Jim Sailors of Cliffside; and eight sisters, Joyce Arrowood of Cliffside, N.C., Evelyn Goode of Boiling Springs, N.C., Lavonda Pleasant of Alexander Mills, N.C., Kathy Mcloskey and Marilyn Hubbard, both of Shelby, Patsy Holland of Henrietta, N.C., Rosemary Barkley of Maiden and Ann Faircloth of Denver, N.C.

KERSHAW - Mrs. Sarah Gertrude "Polly" West, 80, of 201 N. Minor St. died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Revs. J. Stewart Hepler and Stanley Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. West was a daughter of the late Burrell Stanley Catoe and Lillie Belle Shaw Catoe. She was a retired beautician and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sisters, Alice C. Catoe, Vera Mae Catoe and Lois C. Sullivan, all of Kershaw.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Ella Williams

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Mrs. Ella Price Garner Williams, 63, formerly of Chester, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Halseyville Community in Chester County.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Floyd Price Sr. and Louise Dove Price. She was a member of St.Paul Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Williams; five sons, Willie James Garner Jr., and Eric Garner, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Johnny Lee Garner of New Jersey, and Derrick Garner and Robert Garner, both of New Bedford, Mass.; three daughters, Carol Garner Smith of Paterson, N.J., Mamie Garner of Newark, N.J., and Earline Garner of Elizabeth, N.J.; two brothers, Floyd Price Jr. of Carlisle and Nathaniel "Shorty" Price of Chester; and her sister, Johnnie Mae Price Crosby of Brooklyn.

The family will be at the home of her brother, Floyd Price Jr., 3738 West End Road, Carlisle.

James Colvin Jr.

CHESTER - Mr. James Berry "Cooter" Colvin Jr., 67, of 587 McDowell Drive died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Burial will be at Woodward Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. Colvin was a son of James Berry Colvin Sr. and Mary Pope Colvin. He was a retired tax assessor for Chester County having served for 32 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was an usher. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Jewell P. Colvin; his son, J. Kerry Colvin of Simpsonville; his daughter, Rhonda Parker of Chester; his sister, Iris Colvin Kinard of Blackstock; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.
