ROCK HILL - Mrs. Diane Allaway Brady of 987 Durham Lane died Friday, July 30, 1999, at home.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mike Lowery officiating.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Brady was a daughter of the late John H. Allaway and Elsie Allaway. She formerly worked at Juno Tool and Plastics. She was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are her husband, Roy V. Brady Sr.; four sons, Scottie Lee Brady, John Joseph Brady, Roy Vincent Brady Jr. and James Christopher Brady, all of Rock Hill; her brother, Brian Cramer of Rochester, N.Y.; her sister, Suzanne Nash of Rochester, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Margaret Broome

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Starnes Broome, 87, formerly of Monroe, N.C., died Friday, July 30, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Waxhaw, N.C. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Broome was a daughter of the late Thomas Starnes and Evie Starnes Starnes. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Harry L. Broome Sr. of Alpharetta, Ga.; two daughters, Bonnie Broome Estes of Rock Hill and Betty Broome Byrd of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two sisters, Martha Starnes Cash of Wingate, N.C. and Tommy Starnes Medlin of Monroe, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173.

Reece Cauthen Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Reece W. Cauthen Sr., 83, of Lancaster died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Heath Springs Residential Care.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Revs. Marty Cox and Kenny Coker officiating. Entombment will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Cauthen was a son of the late John Boyce Cauthen and Anna Viola Cauthen. He was the widower of Beulah Smith Cauthen. He was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are three sons, Joe G. Cauthen of Baytown, Texas, Reece Williams Cauthen Jr. of Lancaster and James "Jimmy" Edward Cauthen of Kershaw; two daughters, Shirley Robinson and Betty Easler, both of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and other times at the home of Reece Cauthen Jr., 1471 Smokey Starnes Road, Lancaster.

Jacqueline Culp

GREAT FALLS - Ms. Jacqueline Evette Culp, 28, of Great Falls died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.A. McFarlan officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Ms. Culp was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Great Falls High School.

Surviving are her son, William Marquise Culp of the home; her parents, Heyward Lee Culp and Bernice Culp, both of Great Falls; two brothers, Howard Culp of Rock Hill and Christopher Culp of Great Falls; two stepbrothers, Anthony Brown and Ricky Brown, both of Fort Lawn; four sisters, Brenda Allen of Lancaster, Tonya Moree of Pageland, Linda Sanders and Geraldine Culp, both of Great Falls; her maternal grandmother, Hattie Witherspoon of Lancaster; her maternal grandfather, Richard Witherspoon of Lancaster; her paternal grandmother, Geneva Culp of Edgemoor; and her stepfather, Willie Graham of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls and at other times at 407 Chester Ave., Great Falls.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Linda Davis

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Ms. Linda Faye Davis of 3 Seaman Ave., formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, July 26, 1999.

The funeral will be 6 p.m. Sunday at Carl C. Burnett Funeral Home in Hempstead, N.Y., with the Rev. L. McCallum officiating.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Plainlawn Cemetery in Hicksville, N.Y.

Ms. Davis was employed with Fala Direct Marketing Inc. She was a member of the Bayside Church of God. She graduated from Hempstead High School in 1981.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Davis; three sisters, Brenda Kaye Davis Anderson, Tina Davis and Sha Davis; and three brothers, Anthony Davis, Jeffrey Davis and Lamont Davis.

Jessie Hilton

KERSHAW - Mrs. Jessie May Cauthen Hilton, 88, of 7048 Hilton Drive died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hanging Rock United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Eugene Feagin and Dalton Deese officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Hilton was a daughter of the late Lucius Summer Cauthen and Minnie Eleanor Rutledge Cauthen. She was the widow of Yance Hilton. A homemaker, she was a member of Hanging Rock United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Catledge of Kershaw; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Martha Long

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Martha Nunnery Long, 85, of Richburg died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Lando Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marion Drye officiating. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Long was a daughter of the late Albert R. Nunnery and Lonia F. Tinkler Nunnery. She was the widow of Nathan Long. She was a member of Lando Baptist Church, where she was active in church missions. She was retired from Manetta Mills as a seamstress.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmy "Chubby" Long of Lando and Joseph "Joe" Long of Edgemoor; her daughter, Carol Ann Raymond of Atlanta.; her brother, Jimmy Nunnery of Edgemoor; two sisters, Ruth Dixon of Columbia and Vera Lee Long of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

James McKinney

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Palmer McKinney, 74, of 261 S. Herlong Ave. died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Barron Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.

A native of Lando, Mr. McKinney was a son of the late Palmer Patterson McKinney and Flora McGarity McKinney. He was the widower of Wanda O. McKinney. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and a member of Lando Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Lewisville High School, a Shriner and member of the Masonic Lodge in Philadelphia.

Surviving are his brother, Robert McKinney of Chester; and seven sisters, Pauline Thomas, Jeanette Elliott, Nell Clack and Nina Wages, all of Chester, Hazel Kesler of Rensselear, Ind., Helen Brown of Piedmont and Fay Whitt of Honea Path.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Patricia Melton

CHESTER - Mrs. Patricia Ann Fowler Melton, 50, of 2394 Boyd Road died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Saluda Street Church of God, with the Rev. Edward Harris officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Melton was a daughter of the late Miles Fowler and Martha B. Reynolds Fowler. She was employed with Fruit of the Loom in York.

Surviving are her husband, John W. Melton Sr.; two sons, John W. Melton Jr. and Michael Melton, both of Blackstock; three daughters, Wanda Darby, Tammy Levister and Angie Melton, all of Chester; three brothers, Eugene Fowler of Great Falls, Lloyd Fowler of Chester and Colel Fowler of Spartanburg; two sisters, Juanita Withers and Hazel Huckabee, both of Eutawville; and six grandchildren.

The body will be taken today to the home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight.

Ernest Messer

ROCK HILL - Mr. Ernest Roland Messer, 90, of 5495 Winden Road died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Newport, with the Revs. Ronald E. Kelley and Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

Mr. Messer was retired from Cone Mills in Pineville, N.C., and worked at the Museum of York County for a number of years after his retirement. He was the widower of Daisy Ervin Messer.

Surviving are two sons, Doyle Y. Messer of Elgin and Frank Lee Welch of Rock Hill; his daughter, Marilyn Welch Carelock of Monroe, N.C.; two sisters, Kate Rials and Luette Thompson, both of Gastonia, N.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Wilson Payne Sr.

KERSHAW - Mr. Wilson Jessie Payne Sr., 66, of 7048 Flat Creek died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Jamie Helms officiating.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Payne was a son of the late Ernest Payne and Ruth Harris Payne. He was a member of White Bluff Baptist Church and was employed at Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Marion Russell Payne; two sons, Wilson Jessie Payne Jr. of Columbia and Douglas Payne of Lancaster; his brother, Harlon Payne of Kershaw and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to White Bluff Baptist Church, 3140 Duckwood Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Bernell Worthy

ROCK HILL - Ms. Bernell Worthy, 38, of 280 Fargo St. died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating. The Rev. B.R. Wilson will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Ms. Worthy was a daughter of Lula Bell Worthy of the home and the late George W. Worthy. She was a waitress and attended the York County public schools.

Surviving in addition to her mother are six sisters, Margie L. Whitlock, Nannie A. Worthy, Joyce E. Worthy, Geraldine Worthy, all of Rock Hill, Lillie W. Rose and Rosie M. Worthy, both of Charlotte; and her grandfather, Eli Hopkins of Chester.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Mary Boling

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Helen Cauthen Boling, 79, of 875 Hilldale Drive died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at the Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Shane Patrick and Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Boling was a daughter of the late Joseph Clyde Cauthen and Nannie Parker Cauthen. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired cafeteria supervisor for Springs Memorial Hospital.

She was the widow of Ezell J. Boling.

Surviving are two sisters, Leona Lane and Reba Ballard, both of Lancaster; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sybil Powers, 2075 Glenny Pine Drive in Lancaster.

Ruth Cox

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ruth L. Cox, 68, of 2661 Loading Road died Monday, July 26, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at the Camp Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cecil Johnson officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Cox was a daughter of Gracie Boone Lowery and the late Riley L. Lowery. She was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her son, Cliff Carey of Fort Lawn; two daughters, Joyce Deese and Brenda C. Williams, both of Lancaster; two brothers, Clyde Lowery and Louie E. Lowery, both of Lancaster; her sister, Sadie Carnes of Lancaster, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Pete and Joyce Deese of 2005 South Potter Road in Lancaster.
