Bengt Johansson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Bengt Erik Johansson, 67, of 1850 Mount Holly Road died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Mohrmann officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Karlsaga, Sweden, Mr. Johansson was a son of the late Bengt Erik and Elin Johansson. He was an importer and exporter and was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Price Johansson; three sons, Erik Johansson of Portland, Maine, Robert Price of Ellenboro, N.C., and Jim Price of Charlotte; four daughters, Annika Johansson of Sweden; Sandra Richard of Clover, Diane Howsare of Rock Hill, and Anna Johansson of Houston; 12 grandchildren and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive at Cauthen Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the funeral service.

Gerard Mitchell

LAKE WYLIE - Mr. Gerard J. Mitchell, 77, of Lake Wylie died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Elizabeth, N.J., Mr. Mitchell was a son of the late Henry Mitchell and Katherine Ward Mitchell. He served with the U.S. Army 8th Air Force Intelligence in World War II. After relocating to Lake Wylie in 1982, he was a member of All Saints Catholic Mission, a former board member of York County Hospice, River Hills Lions Club and River Hills Golf and Country Club.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic Mission Building Fund, P.O. Box 341, York, SC 29745; River Hills Emergency Squad, 4 Heritage Drive, Lake Wylie, SC 29710; Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730; or the charity of one's choice.

Thomas Moss

HICKORY GROVE - Mr. Thomas Cecil Moss, 88, of 5651 Wylie Ave. died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. John Smith officiating.

A native of Hickory Grove, Mr. Moss was the son of the late Ernest and Isabelle Moss. He was a retired farmer and received the Purple Heart in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Karle Moss of Hickory Grove; his son, Bobby Moss of Hickory Grove; his daughter, Jeanne Moore of York; two brothers, George Moss of Hickory Grove and Herbert Moss of Rock Hill; his sister, Pauline Moss of York; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove Life Saving Squad, 6009 Wylie, Hickory Grove, S.C. 29717.

Louise Roach

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Louise R. Roach, 72, of 1125 Smith St. died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ebenezer Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mary Adams officiating. Burial will be in Grand View Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mrs. Roach was the daughter of the late Ralph Rankin and Janie Mae Thomasson Rankin. She was the widow of William Roach.

Mrs. Roach attended York County schools and was a homemaker. She attended Emmanuel AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the trustee board, class leader, hymn choir member, vice president of the hymn choir, deaconess and a member of the AP&B Society, and Emmanuel Lodge No. 15.

Surviving are five daughters, Pauline Moore, Helen Ruth Geter and Beverly Dixon of Rock Hill; Doris Massey of Charlotte and the Rev. Mary Adams of Fort Mill; two sons, Willie Roach of Tirzah and Jerry Roach of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Friends may view the body from from 5 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today.

Daniel Strong

BALTIMORE - Mr. Daniel Strong, 79, of Baltimore, formerly of Chester, died Thursday July 22, 1999 in Baltimore.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Joseph L. Russ Funeral Home in Baltimore. Burial will be in Baltimore.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Strong was a son of the late Peggy Lyles Strong Brown and Terry Strong. He was a member of the Armenia Baptist Church in Chester.

Surviving are his son, Daniel Strong Jr. of Rock Hill; three daughters, Peggy Strong of Baltimore, Josie Hilton Barber and Annie S. Clawson, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Ada Hall of Spartanburg; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Joseph L. Russ Funeral Home, 2222 West North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21216.

Local arrangements are being handled by Denton Funeral Home in Chester.

David Byrd

JEFFERSON - Mr. David Byrd, 88, of 2148 McBee Highway died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, with the Revs. Clarence Allen and Todd Horton officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Byrd was a son of the late Ernest J. Byrd and Beulah Catoe Byrd. He was the widower of Louise Horton Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are three sons, Jimmie Lee Byrd of Kershaw, Joseph Rolf Byrd of Sumter and Michael Byrd of Jefferson; two daughters, Judy Knight of Lancaster and Sandra Kay Price of Jefferson; his brother, Floyd Hilliard Bird of Leesville; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Joseph Erkes Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Joseph Peter Erkes Jr., 83, of 1330 India Hook Road died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Westminster Towers.

The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Susan Denne officiating.

Mr. Erkes was retired from Hoechst-Celanese Corp. where he worked in research and development. He was a 1939 graduate of Penn State University. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Frank Roach Amer-ican Legion Post 34.

Surviving are his brother, George Erkes of Wrightsville Beach, N.C.; his sister, Elizabeth E. Moore of Rock Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home Elizabeth R. Moore, 1222 Hermitage Road, Rock Hill.

Richard Miller Sr.

READING, Pa. - Mr. Richard "Dick" F. Miller Sr., 67, of 1311 Mineral Spring Road died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center in West Reading, Pa.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Auman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Schuylkill Memorial Park.

A native of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., he was a son of the late Glenn E. Miller and Lillian Swalm Miller.

He was employed for 30 years as an air-conditioning mechanic by Occidental Petroleum Corp. and retired in 1994.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Griesel Miller; his son, Richard F. Miller of York; his daughter, Christi L. Redeyoff of Collegeville, Pa.; two sisters, Eloise M. Schadel of Norristown, Pa., and Janet M. Fessler of Summitt Station, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

The viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading.

Melanie Munn

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Melanie Ann Baker Munn, 27, of 693 Kenwood Lane died Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Rock Hill.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

Mrs. Munn was manager of the Midas Auto Systems Experts in Rock Hill. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Jackie Munn; her son, Thomas Munn of the home; her daughter, Keri Munn of the home; her mother, Frankie Cunnup of Charlotte; her father, John E. Baker of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Kimberley Cunnup and Maria Cunnup, both of Charlotte; and her paternal grandmother, Jenny Baker of Wilmington.

The family will receive friends at home.

Francis Hagen Sr.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Francis J. "Frank" Hagen Sr., 57, of 1542 Deer Branch Road died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Rock Hill, with Father John Giuliani officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Hagen was a son of the late Francis J. Hagen II and Letitia McTague Hagen. A graduate of Ionia College in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was a life insurance underwriter and former manager with Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Co. in Rock Hill.

Surviving are his wife, Betty B. Hagen; his son, Frank Hagen of Spartanburg; two daughters, Florence M. Ramsey and Terry Hagen, both of Rock Hill; his stepson, Donald G. Boyd Jr. of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Terri Hunt of Tega Cay; and eight grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of his stepson, Donald Boyd Jr., 181 Briarwood Drive, Rock Hill, or at the home of his daughter, Terry Hagen, 1052 Farm Pond Lane, Rock Hill.

David Wilson Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. David R. "Whip" Wilson Sr., 65, of 1254 Nalley Road died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

A native of Lincoln County, N.C., Mr. Wilson was a son of the late Arlo H. Wilson and Georgia Abernathy Wilson. He was a utility operator and was retired from Hoescht Celanese Corp. after 32 years of service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served with the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of the of the Frank Roach American Legion Post 34.

Surviving are his son, David R. Wilson Jr. of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany; two daughters, Kathy Lynn Pyatt of Troutman, N.C. and Krystal Wilson of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home after the memorial service.

Isabelle Moses

LEXINGTON - Ms. Isabelle Moses, 78, of Barr Road, formerly of Clover, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany ARP Church, with the Rev. Alan Morrow officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Ms. Moses was a daughter of the late Delbert C. Moses and Violet Faris Moses. She was a retired elementary school teacher having taught at Bethany, York and Lexington elementary schools. She was a member of Bethany ARP Church.

Surviving are her sister, Louise M. Horton of Fairfax; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.
