Jerome Pendergrass

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Jerome Pendergrass, 51, of of 611 Devonwood Drive, formerly of Clover and Lake Wylie, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Clover with the Rev. Thomas Clifton officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Sharon.

Mr. Pendergrass was the son of the late Fletcher and Carrie Barnett Pendergrass.

A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Clover, Mr. Pendergrass was a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the National Guard.

He was employed by Edwards Pipeline Construction of Denver, N.C., as a fusion pipe welder and methodic protector. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Clover.

Surviving are six sons, Marcus Knox, Bob Williamson and Anthony Adams, all of Gastonia, Delmar Pendergrass of Lake Wylie, Charlniejeil "Nart" Pendergrass of Kentucky and Todjalyn Pendergrass of Kings Mountain, N.C.; five daughters, Rodjalyn Pendergrass, Ingrid Pendergrass, Tjuana Smith, Michelle Williamson and Denise Knox, all of Gastonia; five sisters, Terry Myers and Peggy Hoyle, both of Gastonia, Gloria Pendergrass of Lake Wylie, Ivey Robbins of High Point, N.C., and Gayle Robbins of Morganton; his brother, John Walker of Clover; and 18 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Clover and other times at the home.

Beatrice Phillips

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Beatrice Craig Phillips, 71, of 315 N. Jones Ave. died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Westminster Heath Care Center.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene's Funeral Home.

James Thomas II

CLOVER - James Blair Thomas II, infant son of James Blair Thomas and Lora Wallace Thomas of Clover, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Woodside Cemetery, with the Rev. Ted Oldaker officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his sister, Haley Marie Thomas; his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Thomas of Clover; his maternal grandmother, Frances Bingham of Clover; and his maternal grandfather, Paul Ellis Wallace of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

L. Odell Blackmon

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Lucius Odell Blackmon, 92, of 3405 Kershaw Camden Highway died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Von Cockrell officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Blackmon was a son of the late Andrew Bynum Blackmon and Elizabeth Jane McMurry Blackmon. He was retired from Springs Industries as a machinist at Grace Bleachery.

He was a charter member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and served in the Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Vera Kee Blackmon; his son, Ernie Blackmon of Heath Springs; his daughter, Jan Maness of Heath Springs; his brother, Irvin B. Blackmon of Heath Springs; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Ceme-tery fund, 4357 Kershaw Camden Highway, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Florence Deese

LANCASTER - Mrs. Florence Griggs Deese, 69, of 1307 1134 9th St. died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mitchell Ingram officiating. Burial will be at Center Grove Baptist Church in Pageland.

A native of Chesterfield, Mrs. Deese was a daughter of the late Charlie Clement Griggs and Carrie Hugh Brooks Griggs. She was the widow of the late William Curtis Deese. A homemaker, she was a member of the Great Commission Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, James Franklin Deese and William Curtis Deese, both of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Franklin Deese, 3058 Ridgewood Acres, Lancaster.

Vernon Clamp Sr.

ABBEVILLE - Mr. Vernon Franklin Clamp Sr., 60, of 110 Moore St. died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Harris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marion Argo officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

A native of Abbeville, Mr. Clamp was a son of the late Foster Monroe Clamp and Lillian Alewine Clamp. He was the widower of Carolyn Cantrell Clamp. He was employed with Medical Textiles in Greenwood and was a former employee of Bloomsburg Mills. He was a Mason and a member of the Clinton Lodge No. 3 AFM. He was a member of Little River Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Vernon F. Clamp Jr. of Greenwood and Ronnie Dale Clamp of Rock Hill; two brothers, Bonnie Clamp of Abbeville and Bobby Clamp of Waterloo; and four grandchildren.

Glynnis Flynn

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Glynnis Elkins Flynn, 52, of 9200 Glenwater Drive died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The graveside service will be

3:30 p.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Vivian Pressley officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Flynn was the daughter of the late Glenn Elkins and Margie Elkins Maker. She was a member of the West Main Church of the Nazarene and a former employee of Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Paul R. Flynn of Charlotte; her son, Steve F. Maynor of Rock Hill; her daughter, Kimberly M. Mullins of York; and three grandchildren.

Greene Funeral Home was in charge.

Cecil King

INDIAN LAND - Mr. Cecil Roger King, 81, of 8026 Henry Harris Road died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Jacks officiating, followed by Masonic Rites and military honors.

A native of Union County, he was retired from American Bakeries. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Catawba Lodge No. 56, a member and former post commander of American Legion Post No. 43, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9138 and the York County Shrine Club. He was an avid fisherman and bird enthusiast.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Wanda King of the home; and his sister, Alma Haire of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Higher Ground Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 277, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Nettie Roberts

KERSHAW - Mrs. Nettie Mae Whitaker Roberts, 79, of 116 Lee St. died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Buffalo Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Morris, Donald Coppedge and Bobby Owens. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of the late Rome Ellison Whitaker and Florence Hunter Whitaker. She was the widow of Cletis Thomas Roberts. A homemaker, Mrs. Roberts was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where she was former church clerk and a member of the Sunday school class.

Surviving are five sons, T. Wayne Roberts and Johnny L. Roberts Sr., both of Kershaw, Jackie O. Roberts of Greer, Ronnie E. Roberts of Heath Springs and Ted M. Roberts of Cassatt; two sisters, Elsie Whitaker and Harriett Whitaker, both of Kershaw; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Beatrice Phillips

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Beatrice Craig Phillips, 71, of 315-D N. Jones Ave. died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Westminster Heath Care Center.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late Ward C. Craig Sr. and Ila Mae Martin Craig, She was the widow of Frank Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was member of First Presbyterian Church in Massapequa, N.Y., and was retired from American Hydron/Allergen of Syosset, N.Y. Before moving to New York, she worked at the Blue Mirror Restaurant and was known as "Glamour Girl."

Surviving are her son, Phil Phillips of West Haverstraw, N.Y.; her daughter, Veronica Phillips-Moreno of Central Islip, N.Y.; her brother, William D. "Donald" Craig of Rock Hill; three sisters, Dorothy C. Friscia and Betty D. Garrison, both of Rock Hill, and Frances C. Hammond of Fort Mill; and her granddaughter.

LANCASTER - Mr. George Henry Ashley, 84, of 1231 Wallace St. died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Ashley was a son of the late Henry Ashley and Lucy Snead Ashley. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Kate Elliott Ashley; his daughter, Billie Steele of Lancaster; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

LANCASTER - Mrs. Phoebe Plyler Lulloff, 77, of Lancaster died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas B. Wilkes III officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Lulloff was a daughter of the late James W. Plyler and Lou P. Plyler. She was the widow of Clarence Lulloff. A homemaker, she was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, niece, uncle and aunt.

The family will be at the Barnwell and Vicki Plyler residence in the Tabernacle Community.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Rosa Lee "Polly" Richard, 78, of 1826 Remount Road died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion AME Zion Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Victor C. Wilson officiating and the Revs. David Dunlap, W.W. Choate and Loretta Adams assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Richard was a daughter of the late Tom Williams and Rose Springs Williams. She was educated in public schools and joined Mount Zion AME Zion Church at an early age. She began the first Stewardess Board at the church and was a member of the Missionary Supply Department and Pastor's Aide. She was a deaconess and former member of the Elks. She was Miss Senior Citizen of Parker Heights.

Surviving are three sisters, Selma Mobley of Charlotte, and Leola Rutledge and Annie Walker, both of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Mount Zion AME Zion Church and at other times at the home of Annie Mae "Granny" Walker, 2580 Coltharp Road, Fort Mill.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Camilla Toatley

ATLANTA - Miss Camilla Nicole Toatley, 15, of Atlanta, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Emerald Chapter Hospital in Atlanta.

The funeral was Sunday at Gus Thornhill Funeral Home in Atlanta. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in College Park, Ga.

A native of Rock Hill, Camilla was a former student at Mount Gallant Elementary School. She was a rising sophomore at North Atlanta High School.

Surviving are her mother, Debra Toatley of Rock Hill; her father, Jerry McClure Jr. of Rock Hill; two brothers, Kevin Toatley of Atlanta and Brandon J. McClure of Rock Hill; her sister, Natasha Toatley of Atlanta; and her grandmothers, Claudia Toatley of Atlanta and Jennie McClure and Belinda B. McClure, both of Rock Hill.
