Bonnie Taylor

KERSHAW - Mrs. Bonnie Sue Roberts Taylor, 41, of 1353 Charlie Johnson Road died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Abney Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mendel Baker, Bill Morris and Bobby Owens officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late Johnny Coleman Roberts and Ethel Cornelia Gibson Roberts. She was employed at Springs Industries, Grace Bleachery. She was a member of Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Larry D. Taylor; two sons, Stephen D. Taylor and L. Cody Taylor, both of Kershaw; two daughters, Tonya Broughton and Leigh Taylor, both of Kershaw; four brothers, Johnny Roberts of Rock Hill, Thomas Roberts of Heath Springs, Ronnie Roberts, and Monnie Roberts, both of Kershaw; two sisters, Brenda Baker of Heath Springs and Nancy Hilton of Kershaw; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1142, Lancaster, SC 29721-1142.

Ralph Westbrook

SUMMERVILLE - Mr. Ralph "Wylie" Westbrook, 54, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at a Charleston hospital.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Burial will be at Dorchester Memory Gardens.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Westbrook was a son of the late Barber Alexander Westbrook and Mary Rebecca Alewine Westbrook. He graduated from the Rock Hill schools. He was an office supplies salesman and a member of the Charleston Exchange Club. He was a Methodist.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Marie West Westbrook; his son, Patricke Alexander Westbrook of Summerville; his daughter, Rebecca Leeann Westbrook of Summerville; and four brothers, Barber "Bobby" A. Westbrook Jr., John "Jack" C. Westbrook, Charlie W. Westbrook and William "Chief" H. Westbrook, all of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main St., Summerville.

Memorials may be made to Boone United Methodist Church.

Nell Bailey

CLOVER - Miss Nell Elizabeth Bailey of 305 Kings Mountain St. died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at home.

The service will be private.

A native of Spindale, N.C., Miss Bailey was a daughter of the late Herbert Harvey Bailey and Florence Elizabeth Moore Bailey. She was retired from Southern Bell.

Surviving are two brothers, Jerry Bailey of Clover and Charles Bailey of New Bern, N.C.; and two sisters, Lucille Whisenant of Clover and Peggy Jamieson of York.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at her home.

Alice Kerr

PINEVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Alice Conder "Nannie" Kerr, 81, of Pineville died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at McEwen Pineville Chapel. Burial will be at Harrison United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Matthews, N.C., Mrs. Kerr was a daughter of the late Mert "Pop" Conder and Margaret Conder. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, William Jefferson Kerr and Frankie Cruse Kerr; three daughters, Mary Kerr Harris, Melissa Kerr Lomax and Ida Kerr Penniger; 10 grandchildren including Christy Dawn Birmingham, whom she raised; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 tonight at McEwen Pineville Chapel.

Molly Madden

YORK - Mrs. Molly Ivey Madden, 76, of 119 Charlotte St. died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Culbertson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mrs. Madden was a daughter of the late Leroy Ivey and Mammie Weaver Ivey. She was the widow of Karl F. Madden. She was a retired spinner from Cannon Mills in York, where she worked 45 years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Claudette Deal of York and Brenda Crisp of Clover; her brother, Phillip Ivey of York; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

James McFadden

ROCK HILL - Mr. James D. McFadden, 66, of 1126 Ellen Ave. died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at United AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Roger McBeth officiating and the Rev. Thomas Barber and Mildred Patton assisting. Burial will be at Rehobeth AME Zion Church cemetery in Chester County.

Mr. McFadden was retired as truck driver for the town of Fort Mill after 37 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel Potts McFadden; five sons, Willie J. McFadden, Jessie W. McFadden, Milton McFadden and Thomas Potts, all of Rock Hill, and Antonio Potts of Charlotte; six daughters, Martha McFadden and Tamela McFadden, both of Fort Mill, Arnissa Tinnin of Rock Hill, Ruby N. McFadden and Carolyn A. Young, both of Lancaster, and Shirley Massey of California; three sisters, Juanita McFadden, Marianne McFadden and Anna Jean McFadden, all of Landover, Md.; 35 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Bertha Roseboro

PHILADELPHIA - Mrs. Bertha Blake Roseboro of 3009 W. Oxford St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Sherman McBeth Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Barber Memorial Cemetery in Rock Hill.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Roseboro was a daughter of the late Carrie Blake Coleman Moffatt and Richard McCrorey. She was a graduate of Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill. She attended Johnson C. Smith University and Temple University. She taught in Chester County schools and at Lincoln Day Nursery in Philadelphia for 19 years. She was a former member of New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church. She was a member of Poplar Street AME Zion Church in Philadelphia, where she was a trustee and life member of Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society.

Surviving are her husband, Willie Roseboro; her stepson, Scott Roseboro of Philadelphia; her brother, Timothy Moffatt of Washington; and two sisters, Mary Louise Smith of Philadelphia and Mamie Clark of Plainfield, N.J.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at 801 Carolina Ave. and at 837 Jefferson Ave., Rock Hill.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Harry White Sr.

FORT LAWN - Mr. Harry Donald White Sr., 70, of 4601 Bobcat Drive, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Edgemoor ARP Cemetery, with the Rev. Allen Derrick officiating.

A native of Pembroke, Ga., Mr. White was a son of the late James Henry White and Thelma Spears White. Mr. White was a retired upholsterer for a furniture manufacturer. He was a member of Central Church of God in Charlotte.

Surviving are his son, Harry D. White Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Lisa William of Fort Lawn and Lori Williams of Concord, N.C.; his brother, Hugh White of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Blanche DuBose of Pembroke, Ga., and Marie Jernigan of Charlotte; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Edgemoor ARP Church, 2135 Starnes Road, Edgemoor, SC 29712.

William Byrd

EUSTIS, Fla. - Mr. William Adolphus Byrd, 89, formerly of Lancaster, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in Eustis, Fla.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lancaster, with the Rev. Needham Williamson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Byrd was a son of the late John Cleveland and Mae Cook Byrd. He was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Elizabeth Culp Byrd; two daughters, Shirley Lowery of Monroe, N.C., and Frances Bateman of Mount Dora, Fla.; his sister, Estes Hoffman of Lancaster; two brothers, Woodrow Byrd of Lancaster and J.C. Byrd of Turbeville; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Shirley Lowery, 2516 Supreme Drive, Monroe.

Helen Gregory

HEATH SPRINGS - Helen Mackey Gregory, 79, of 324 W. Caston St. died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Kershaw County Memorial Hospital in Camden.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Eugene Feagin officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery.

The widow of Joseph Benjamin "Joe" Gregory Sr., Mrs. Gregory was born in Lancaster County and was the daughter of the late A.I. and Corinne Mackey. She was a former town clerk for Heath Springs and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she served as financial secretary and was an active member of Circle I.

Surviving are her son, Joseph Gregory Jr. of Heath Springs; her daughter, Priscilla Bowers of Heath Springs; two sisters, Elizabeth Truesdale of Heath Springs and Rebecca Burch of Gainsville, Ga.; four grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the church after the funeral and at other times at the home of her daughter, 6095 Beecher Horton Road in Heath Springs.

Memorials may be sent to the Salem United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 201 S. Main St., Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Belton King

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Belton Wayne King, 56, formerly of Rock Hill, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort.

Mr. King was a Vietnam War veteran and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, where he received national defense service medals, the Purple Heart, expert rifle medals, Vietnam service medals and Vietnam campaign medals.

Mr. King was a life-long member of the Disabled Veterans in Columbia, Post No. 28.

Surviving are three sisters, Margaret Jo Lee of Savannah, Ga., Mary Dawkins of Waycross, Ga., and Annette McSwain of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Dis-abled Veterans Post 28 in Columbia.

Mary Powell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Ricketts Powell, 83, of 850 Lucas St. died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bruce Wyatt and Calvin Morrow officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Monticello, Ga., Mrs. Powell was a daughter of the late George Ricketts Sr. and Ida Mary McCollough Ricketts. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Young at Heart group and was a retiree of Celanese.

Mrs. Powell was the widow of Roy C. Powell.

Surviving are her brother, George Ricketts Jr. of Calhoun Falls; her sister, Louise McDonald of Charlotte; her nieces who were her caregivers, Brenda McDowell, Linda Dellinger and Susan Moore, all of Rock Hill; her nephew who was her caregiver, William Powell, of Dequincy, La.; and a number of other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Brenda McDowell, 1543 Wensley Court in Rock Hill.

Robert Usher Sr.

AIKEN - Mr. Robert B. Usher Sr., 72, of 1529 Audubon Drive, formerly of Lancaster, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Grady Eddie Usher and Carlos Gardner officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Usher was a son of the late Bunyan Usher and Ellen Harper Usher Caskey. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II, a retired power supervisor with E.I. Dupont Savannah River Plant in Aiken and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Aiken.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Hinson Usher; three sons, Robert B. "Bob" Usher Jr. of Gainesville, Ga., Wayne A. Usher of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Thomas L. Usher of Aiken; his daughter, Wanda Usher Burleson of Columbia; his stepbrother, Jesse J. Caskey of Gallatin, Tenn.; two stepsisters, Betty Bragdon and Nancy Hagins, both of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friend from 6 to 8 tonight at the Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster and at other times at the home of Billy Crenshaw, 238 Providence Road in Lancaster.
