Clinton Allen

LANCASTER - Mr. Clinton B. Allen, 73, of 900 Hilldale Drive died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Harvesttime Assembly of God, with the Revs. Bill Allen and Allen Brazell officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Opp, Ala., Mr. Allen was a son of the late Gifford Allen and Jenny Jones Allen. Mr. Allen was a retired sheet metal fabricator. He was a member of Harvesttime Assembly of God.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Qualls Allen; his son, Heyward Allen of Lancaster; his daughter, Agnes Allen Hudson of Lancaster; his brother, Fulton Allen of Lancaster; five sisters, Mattie Barron and Elsie Mae Lewis, both of Lancaster, Irene Davis, Buena Qualls, and Ossie Nowlin, all of Opp, Ala.; three grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Agnes Hudson, 1080 Garnette Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Harvesttime Assembly of God, Mission Fund for the Hungry, 729 Monroe Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Doris Deas

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Doris Ann Deas, 61, of 2999 Glenstone Drive died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at West End Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mike Lowery, Jerry Devinney and James A. Lowery officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Deas was a daughter of the late Paul Lowery and Myrtle Lowery. She was a warehouse supervisor at Celanese and a member of the West End Baptist Church and of the Kathryn Raye Circle Group.

Surviving are her husband, Levy Deas; her daughter, Rhonda Devinney of Rock Hill; two stepsons, Larry Deas and Jerry Deas, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, the Rev. James A. Lowery of Gastonia, N.C., and Edward Lowery of Charlotte; her sister, Betty Cameron of York; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church Building Fund, 1727 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Dylan Hardin

CHESTER - Dylan Dearelle Hardin, infant son of Flodreaka Hardin and Keith Anderson of 2600 Rocky Creek Road, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Mount Prospect Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Stringfellow Jr. officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandparents, Floyd Hardin and Agnes A. Hardin of Chester; his paternal grandmother, Lottie Anderson of McConnells; and his maternal great-grandmother, Frances White of Chester.

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., is in charge.

John Adams

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Mr. John Elliott Adams, 86, of 123 James St., formerly of Chester, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Northeast Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. P. C. Holland officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

A native of Chester, Mr. Adams was a son of the late Elliott Adams and Nannie Ferguson Adams. He was the widower of Marie Feaster Adams. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the A.L. Brewer Gospel Choir. He attended the Old Wilson Baptist Church of Chester.

Surviving are two daughters, Delta Flowe of Raleigh, N.C., and Blondine Irving of Detroit; two brothers, Robert Adams of Kannapolis and J.T. Adams of Toledo, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., is in charge of local arrangements.

Foster Roberts

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Foster Floyd Roberts, 71, of 555 Gardendale Circle died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Great Falls Nazarene Church, with the Revs. Henry Adams and Kenneth Compton officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Camden, Mr. Roberts was a son of the late Foster F. Roberts and Stella Poore Roberts Self. He was the widower of Jeanette Brewer Roberts. He was a retired weaver from J. P. Stevens Co. He was a member of Great Falls Nazarene Church.

Surviving are six sons, Foster "Buck" Roberts of Simpsonville, David Roberts of Lancaster, Mike Roberts of Chester, Donnie Roberts of Blackstock, and John Roberts and Charles "Chucky" Roberts, both of Great Falls; his daughter, Glory East of Great Falls; two brothers, Earl Roberts of Great Falls and J.W. Roberts of Gastonia, N.C.; 26 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Victor Volikas

YORK - Mr. Victor David Volikas, 42, of 323 S. Shiloh Road, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at the United Church of Christ in Devon, Conn.

Mr. Volikas was of the Protestant faith and worked with Red Clay Industries and Blythe Construction Co.

Surviving are his mother, Marilyn M. Volikas of the home; three brothers, James Volikas and Raymond Volikas, both of Devon, Conn., and George Schwab of West Haven, Conn.; four sisters, Cheryl Ziegler of Ansonia, Conn., Betty Ann Curbank of Shelton, Conn., Christine Volikas of Devon, Conn., and Josephine Merlo of York; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill and at other times at the home.

Ethel Williams

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Ethel Revels Williams, 71, of 203 Locust St. died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Great Falls Baptist Church, with the Revs. Doug Irvin and Curtis Cameron officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Thomas Leroy Revels and Kate Lloyd Revels. She was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and the Great Falls Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 211.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph "Joey" Martin Williams of Great Falls and T. Randy Williams of Atlanta; her brother, Wade H. Revels of Greenville; two sisters, Jeanette McAteer of Great Falls and Sarah Cameron of Lancaster; and her grandson.

Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home is in charge.

J.D. Canady

ROCK HILL - Mr. J.D. Canady, 76, of 1120 Mount Holly Road died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with Dr. William A. Fox Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. Canady was the son of the late William H. Canady and Mary Addie Canady. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. after 40 years of service. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his son, William "Buck" Canady of Rock Hill; his daughter, Mary Baker of McDonough, Ga., two brothers, Glenn Canady of Fort Smith, Ark., and Jack Canady of Rock Hill; his sister, Virginia "Jerry" Canady of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, and at other times at the home.

Ernest Carnes

LANCASTER - Mr. Ernest Claude Carnes, 88, of 2044 Pageland Hwy. died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Hopper officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Carnes was the son of the late Jeff and Jane McManus Carnes. He was the widower of Jerushia Belk Carnes. He was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are five sons, T.C. Carnes, Merley Carnes, Jack Carnes, Jerry Lee Carnes and Harvey A. Carnes, all of Lancaster; his daughter, Betty Joyce Bowden of Lancaster; his sister, Carrie Carnes of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home of T.C. and Barbara Carnes, 4433 Palmer Lloyd Road, Lancaster.

Ivan Skeeters

FORT MILL - Mr. Ivan Skeeters, 87, of 2700 Exodus Court, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be in Louisville, Ky. Arrangements will be announced by Family Funeral Care in Louisville.

Surviving are two sons, Ivan L. Skeeters and Jeffery L. Skeeters, both of Louisville, Ky.; his daughter, Wanda Grubbs of Fort Mill; two brothers, Loyd Hoagland and Raymond Hoagland; two sisters, Hazel Hidgon and Mildred Batts; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at McEwen Funeral Home Pineville Chapel.

James Neely Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Thornwell Neely Jr., 87, of 624 Forest Lane died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Dr. William C. Pender and Susan L. Denne officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Neely was the son of the late Lillie Earle Salder Neely and James Thornwell Neely Sr. He was a lifelong member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a Shriner, past president of the Rock Hill Jaycees and the York County Life Under-writers Association and a member of the Rock Hill Cotillion Club and a retired member of the Rock Hill Rotary Club.

He graduated cum laude from Presbyterian College, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He became secretary and treasurer of Neely Motor Company on White Street, which his father founded.

He served as First Lieutenant in Company I, 110th Infantry of the Rock Hill National Guard, before being called to active duty in 1939. He was promoted to captain and served as the executive officer of I Company in the Third Army, Fifth Infantry Division under General Patton during World War II. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He became owner of Neely Motor Company and opened Neely Insur-ance Agency as part of the motor company. He earned his Certified Life Underwriters degree at Queens College. He retired in 1979.

Surviving are his wife, Louise C. Neely of Rock Hill; his son, James Thornwell Neely III of Rock Hill; his daughter, Lonnie Lou Neely Rabon of Salisbury, N.C.; two sisters, Lillie Earle Neely Townsend of Rock Hill and Sadler Neely Carter of Anderson; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Bass Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Ralph Stewart

SHELBY, N.C.- The Rev. Ralph Stewart, 56, of 907 Parkwood Road died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Owen Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

A native of York, the Rev. Stewart was a son of the late Sidney and Mamie Leola Hambright Stewart. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Ellenboro, N.C., and was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Bedenbaugh Stewart of the home; his daughter, Donna Wallace of Richburg; his son, Michael Stewart of Sharon; his stepson, Kevin Bedenbaugh of Hickory, N.C.; four stepdaughters, Kim Bedenbaugh Efird and Kelli Bedenbaugh Smith of Tega Cay, Gail Johnson of Rich-burg and Judy Lester of York; four brothers, Harold Stewart and Sidney Stewart Jr. of York, Jesse Stewart of Jupiter, Fla., and Robert Stewart of Forest City, N.C.; three sisters, Helen Beckham and Margaret Medline of York, and Barbara Staton of Belmont, N.C.; and 12 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 tonight at Cleveland Funeral Services.

Otis Pitman

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Otis Caswell Pitman, 88, of 115 Caston St. died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Cecil Johnson and Ellis Pitman along with Mr. Arnold Pitman officiating. Burial will follow at Westside City Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Pitman was the son of the late Mr. George Washington Pitman and Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Gardner Pitman. He was a retired Springs Industries employee, a member of the Barron Masonic Lodge in Heath Springs and a member of Heath Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Ellis C. Pitman of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Mr. Arnold L. Pitman of Odessa, Texas; his daughter, Carolyn Pitman Johnson of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster and at other times at the home of his daughter, Carolyn Pitman Johnson, 980 Potter Road in Lancaster.

Catherine Cox

FORT MILL - Mrs. Catherine Ryan Cox, 78, of 1764 Doby's Bridge Road, formerly of Rochester, N.Y., died Aug. 28, 1999 at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. tonight at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Bob Costner officiating.

Mrs. Cox was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis Cox and John Cox, both of Shelton, Wash.; her daughter, Kathy Hildreth of Fort Mill; her brother, William Ryan of Greece, N.Y.; her sister, Alice Donovan of Canandaiguia, N.Y.; four grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1764 Doby's Bridge Road.
