Kizzie Broom

FORT MILL - Miss Kizzie "Kit" Ann Broom, 97, of 107 Sumner St. died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glen Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., Miss Broom was a daughter of the late James and Annie Broom. She retired from Springs Industries after more than 44 years of service. Miss Broom was a member of the New Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Concord, N.C.

Surviving are her brother, Tom Broom of Fort Mill; two sisters, Treacy Broom and Bertie Johnson, both of Fort Mill; her caretaker and sister-in-law, Mattie Broom of Fort Mill; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Myrtle Hindman

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Myrtle Ross Collins Hindman of 1330 India Hook Road died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Westminster Health Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Bert Watson and Olene Civils officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Hindman was the daughter of the late Calvin and Frances Collins. She was the widow of William Hindman Sr.

Mrs. Hindman was retired from Rock Hill Telephone Company. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she served on the board of trustees and was previously church treasurer and church historian. She also was president of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are her son, William Hindman Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Linda Hilburn of Charlotte and Donna Glaser of Cincinnati; two sisters, Judy Roberts of Rock Hill and Eloise Payne of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Judy Roberts, 1744 Hunters Trail, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 South Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730, or to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1223 Curtis St., Rock Hill.

Margaret Fincher

WAXHAW, N.C. - Mrs. Margaret Ann Tyson Fincher, 66, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Monroe, N.C., with the Revs. David Lawrence and Tom McLean officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Fincher was a daughter of Ethel Tyson and the late Dee Tyson. She was the widow of James Fincher Sr.

Mrs. Fincher was a former medical technician and a homemaker. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, was a Sunday school teacher for the third and fourth grades for more than 30 years and had a personal ministry in growing and sharing flowers with her friends and neighbors.

Surviving are her son, James Fincher Jr. of Monroe, N.C.; two daughters, Elizabeth Fincher of Rock Hill and Crystal Hinson of Monroe, N.C.; her mother, Ethel Tyson of Waxhaw, N.C.; her sister, Kate Lyons of Vero Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173, or to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.

Lucille Ludlam

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lucille Bullard Ludlam, 67, of 2629 Harmony Road, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at the Palmetto Baptist Medical Hospital in Easley.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with the Revs. Roland Dry and Roger Plemmons officiating. A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols.

A native of Horry County, Mrs. Ludlam was the daughter of the late Wessie Bullard and Viola Bullard. She was retired from Celanese and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was an American Red Cross volunteer and was active in gospel music for the last 15 years.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley Ludlam; her son, Samuel Ludlam of Rock Hill; three daughters, Judy Nunn, Doris Chitwood and Luci Reeves, all of Rock Hill; her sister, Peggy Neal of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at her son's home, 2667 Harmony Road.

Eugene Plyler

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Eugene Neil "Gene" Plyler, 76, of 619 Hart St. died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Abney Baptist Church in Kershaw, with the Rev. Mendle Baker officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Plyler was the son of the late Broadus and Izzie Plyler. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and was a member of Abney Baptist Church in Kershaw.

Surviving are his wife, Nettie Outen Plyler of Heath Springs; four sons, Jerry Plyler, Donald Plyler, Rick Plyler and Morris Plyler, all of Lancaster; three daughters, Katherine Hunter, Gail Houser and Fredia Snipes, all of Lancaster; three brothers, Malcolm Plyler and Clyde Plyler, both of Michigan and Andrew Plyler of Gastonia, N.C.; his sister, Vivian Hunter of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The body will be taken to 619 Hart St. this afternoon and will remain there until 1 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at home tonight.

William Tatham

YORK - William Logan Tatham, infant son of William "Billy" and Frances Tatham of 5320 W. Liberty St., died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Mercy Maternity Center in Pineville, N.C.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with President Norman Sifford of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (York branch) officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Anthony Beck of the home; his sister, Tiffany Tatham of the home; his paternal grandmother, Gwen Harris of Lake Wylie; his paternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Smith of Chester; his paternal great-grandparents, George and Bertha Harris of York; his maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Maxine Golden of Fort Mill; his maternal grandfather, Garney Beck of Clover; and his maternal great-grandparents, Willie and Marge Childers of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Edna Bell

CHESTER - Mrs. Edna Schulte Bell, 80, of 132 Lancaster St. died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Westminster Health Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Barron Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Dwight Pearson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Bell was a daughter of the late Sumter B. Schulte and Maggie Wrenn Schulte. She was a graduate of Chester High School and Perry Business School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Chester ARP Church.

Mrs. Bell was the widow of Charles M. Bell.

Surviving are her son, Lee Hewett of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her daughter, Margaret Hayden of Atlanta; two sisters, Virginia Cassels and Anne Arant, both of Chester; her brother, Fred Schulte of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Walter Benfield

FORT MILL - Mr. Walter Barron "Monk" Benfield, 79, of 102 Patterson St. died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Mill Nazarene Church, with the Rev. Mickey Smith officiating.

A native of York, Mr. Benfield served 12 years on the Fort Mill Town Council and served 25 years as the chief or assistant chief of the Fort Mill Fire Department. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and served in the National Guard. He was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of the Fort Mill Nazarene Church's men's Bible class. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Spinks Benfield; his son, Walter Barron Benfield Jr. of Fort Mill; his daughter, Linda Fowler of Lockhart; two brothers, Preston Benfield of Columbia and Sonny Benfield of Edgefield; two sisters, Dorothy O'Neal of Columbia and Francis Powell of Irmo; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene.

Doris Garrison

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Doris Garrison Garrison, 75, of 2885 Saluda Road died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greene Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Garrison was a daughter of the late Florence Garrison. She worked for 25 years in the packing department of the Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. and was a member of the Oakdale Baptist Church.

Mrs. Garrison was the widow of Floyd Garrison.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne Garrison of Rock Hill and Ron Garrison of McDonough, Ga.; her sister, Bessie Phillips of Rock Hill; her granddaughter; and her great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, Wayne Garrison, at 630 Robertson Road in Rock Hill.

Martha Gill

CHESTER - Mrs. Martha Bruce Douglas Gill, 80, of 2353 Gill Jordan Road died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Union ARP Church, with the Rev. Allen Derrick officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Gill was a daughter of the late Arch Douglas and Agnes Brice Douglas. She was a retired math teacher and was a graduate of Fort Mill High School and Winthrop College. She was a member of the Union ARP Church.

Mrs. Gill was the widow of Hugh Millen Gill Sr.

Surviving are three daughters, Polly Guyton of Lake Wateree, Angie Payne of Lake Wylie and Lynn Hatcher of Greer; her son, Hugh M. "Buddy" Gill Jr. of Rock Hill; two brothers, Arch Douglas of Pineville, N.C., and Brice Douglas of Fort Mill; her sister Jean Gordan of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

CLOVER - Mr. James Frank "Buck" Horton, 72, of 2414 Southbend Road, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Wallace Tinsley officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mr. Horton was a son of the late Tracey Evans Horton and Alene McClain Horton. Mr. Horton was retired from Jordan Business Forms and was a former Clover school district bus driver. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a former deacon at Filbert Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Burns Horton; and his brother Scott Horton of Kings Mountain, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.
