ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lillian Varnadore Good, 95, of 707 Briarcliff Road died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Rouse officiating. Burial will be at Union ARP Church cemetery in Richburg.

A native of Richburg, Mrs. Good was a daughter of the late John Wesley Varnadore Sr. and Belle McGarity Varnadore. She was the widow of John Leland Good. She was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church and was retired from Baer Hosiery Mill, where she worked as an inspector for more than 17 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth G. "Lib" Childers of Rock Hill and Doris G. Childers of the home; her brother, John Wesley Varnadore Jr. of Rock Hill; her half-sister, Helen V. Flenniken of Chester; five grandchildren including Mickey Childers, with whom she lived, and Jennifer Childers, who assisted with her care; eight great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Carrie Moore

ROCK HILL - Miss Carrie C. Moore, 95, of 510 Oakland Ave. died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Faison City Cemetery in Faison, N.C.

Born near Warsaw, N.C., Miss Moore was a daughter of the late Dan Moore and Clara Shine Moore. She attended the University of North Carolina and graduated from the Watts Hospital School of Nursing in Durham, N.C. She was a private duty nurse in Macon, Ga., Augusta, Ga., and in Rock Hill, where she's lived since 1936. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Moore Furniture Co. After retirement, she served as a Red Cross blood drive volunteer.

Surviving are her sister, Eliza M. Moore of the home; and two nephews, Arthur Daniel Moore of Augusta, Ga., and James H. Moore of Rock Hill; five great nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Annie Mungo

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Annie Wheeler Mungo, 71, of 2210 Oak Pond Road died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Oak Pond Manor.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Devin-ney officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memo-rial Park.

A native of Bethune, Mrs. Mungo was a daughter of the late Lewis C. Blackwell and Edith Self Blackwell. A homemaker, Mrs. Mungo was a member of West Main Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are five daughters, Patsy Hallums of Herndon, Va., Barbara Padgett, Sandra Starnes and Sybil Funderburk, all of Rock Hill, and Lucille Brooks of York; her sister, Barbara Horton of Lancaster;

12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sandra Starnes, 1054 S. Jones Ave. Ext., Rock Hill.

Nora Roy

YORK - Mrs. Nora Mae Davis Roy, 77, of 1065 Woodlawn Heights Road died Wed-nesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Divine Saviour Catholic Church, with the Rev. Edward McDivett officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Roy was a daughter of the late Vann Davis and Willie Mae Beck Davis. She was the widow of Edward Homer Roy. She was a graduate of Matthews High School. She retired from Davis Steel as a purchasing agent. She was a member of Divine Saviour Catholic Church.

Surviving are three sons, E. Patrick Roy and Michael Roy, both of York and Timothy Roy of Puerto Rico; three daughters, Jean Roy and Nora Sue Roy, both of York, and Anne Roy Waldron of Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, John C. Davis of Pageland, Brooks Davis and Beck M. Davis, both of Matthews, N.C.; three sisters, Christine D. Alexander of Charlotte, and Carolyn Wilkes and Doris D. Cunningham, both of Matthews, N.C.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be said at 6:30 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home, after which the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.

Frank Sweatt

LANCASTER - Mr. Frank O'Dell Sweatt, 50, of 1773 Old Lynwood Circle died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Canaan Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Anders and Wayne Snipes officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Sweatt was a son of Rosa Lee Sweatt. He was retired from Springs Industries and a member of Canaan Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sally Bolick Sweatt; four daughters, Deborah Adams, Tammy Snipes and Jessica Sweatt, all of Lancaster, and Rebecca Tyson of Monroe, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Eva Billue

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Eva Dendy Steele Billue, 89, of Rock Hill died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer ARP Church, with the Revs. Charles Mitchell and Steve Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Billue was a daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Steele and Anna Milling Steele. She was the widow of Callie Walker "C.W." Billue. Mrs. Billue was retired from the Rock Hill school district as the lunchroom supervisor at Oakdale Elementary School. She also worked part time at Judi's Smart Shop. She was a member of Ebenezer ARP Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Billue Campbell of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Joanne McCrorey

ROCK HILL - Ms. Joanne McCrorey, 41, of 362 Apt. B Heckle Court, formerly of Chester, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Grove AME Zion Church in Chester, with the Rev. E.E. Vance officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Ms. McCrorey was a daughter of Mary McCrorey Williams of Rock Hill and the late Willie S. Peterson.

She was a former employee of McDonald's in Rock Hill. She was a member of Chestnut Grove AME Zion Church and a former member of Hopewell Baptist Church and Gethsemane Baptist Church. She attended Chester County schools.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, John W. Backstrom and Ernest James Donuvant, both of Chester; two daughters, Lakisha W. Backstrom of Chester and Nancy Tolliver of Greenwood; her stepfather, Harvey William Sr. of Rock Hill; eight brothers, Harvey Williams Jr. of Gastonia, N.C., Willie Foster of Blackstock, and Christopher M. Peterson, Stephen D. Peterson, Gabriel D. Gregory, Sundray D. Gregory, Tyguan J. Gregory and Marcus Franklin, all of Chester; nine sisters, Wynella McMickens, Vera D. Williams and Dianne Hilton, all of Rock Hill, and Minnie Neal, Bobbie L. Peterson, Lachan A. Knox, Trevonda Hemphill, Latange M. Peterson and Samantha B. Gregory, all of Chester; her grandfather, M.J. McCrorey of Rock Hill; her grandmother, Sarah R. McCrorey of Gastonia; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Minnie Neal, 526 Myrtle Ave., Chester.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Lucille Jordan

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lucille Blair Jordan, 88, of Spring Arbor died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bo Coleman officiating. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakland Baptist Church Chapel.

A native of Athens, Ga., Mrs. Jordan was a daughter of the late Charles Clifford Blair and Emma Elizabeth Evans Blair. She was the widow of Edgar F. Jordan. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and with her late husband owned and and operated Jordan Dry Cleaners. She also worked with One Hour Martinizing.

Surviving are her son, Harold F. Jordan of Cayce; two daughters, Joanne J. Kimbrell of Fort Mill and Patsy J. Cox of Rock Hill; her brother, H. Fletcher Blair of Clover; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jim and Patsy Cox, 1193 Mary Dale Lane, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Baptist Church, building fund, 1067 W. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

M.C. Attaway

JOHNSTON - Mr. M.C. Attaway, 76, of Johnston died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veteran's Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Burt officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Saluda County, Mr. Attaway was a son of the late Joe Attaway and Bertha Bouknight Attaway. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the board of trustees, and was a member of the male chorus. He was a member of the Sons of Aide, Mine Creek Burial Aide Society, Pearl Chapel Masonic Lodge No. 118 and was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of the Saluda Commission of Public Works.

Surviving are his wife, Minnie Mae Watson Attaway; three sons, Morris Carlton Attaway of Houston, Dexter Attaway of Dallas and John Attaway of Seattle; two daughters, Bertha Mae Hammonds of Johnston and Ida Mae Nicholson of Columbia; three brothers, Benjamin Attaway of Washington, Ware Attaway of Jamaica, N.Y., and Robert L. Attaway of Rock Hill.; two sisters, Lillie Ruth Jones of Washington and Annie W. Attaway of Philadelphia; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Butler Funeral Home in Saluda is in charge.

Willene Cornwell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Willene Patterson Cornwell, 59, of 2526 Neely Store Road died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at Columbia-Augusta Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Fort Mill, with the Revs. Randall Odom and Kenneth Walters officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Cornwell was a daughter of Sarah O. Patterson of Indian Land and the late William W. Patterson Jr. Mrs. Cornwell was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a former member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was a retired nurse and worked for Dr. William Henry and Hospice of York County.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Ivey Cornwell; her son, Jim Boatwright of Rock Hill; her daughter, Denise Helms of Indian Land; four brothers, Delano Patterson and Tommy "T.C." Patterson, both of Waxhaw, N.C., and Bob Patterson and Don Patterson, both of Fort Mill; two sisters, Brenda P. Davis of Waxhaw and Mary Frances Huggins of Fort Mill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Alice Burguson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alice R. Burguson, 92, of 617 Heathridge died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, with the Revs Joe Mills and Dr. Charles Foss officiating.

Born in Rocky Mount, N.C., Mrs. Burguson was a daughter of George A. Rumph and Mary Elizabeth Grayson Rumph. She was the widow of Edwin Floyd Burguson. She was retired as executive secretary to the president of the Air Transport Association in Washington. Mrs. Burguson was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. She received the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International. She was a member of the Little Garden Club of Rock Hill, the Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star.

Surviving are two daughters, Sarah B. Strait and Barbara B. Griffith, both of Rock Hill; her brother, George A. Rumph of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

James Cook Sr.

FORT MILL - Mr. James Franklin Cook Sr., 59, of 407 Link St. died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at Mercy Hospital South in Pineville, N.C.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Matthews officiating.

A native of Charlotte, Mr. Cook was a son of the late Ernest Martin Cook and Louise Biggerstaff Cook. Mr. Cook owned and operated Cook's Salvage in Indian Land. He owned a race car, "0," which ran at the Lancaster Motor Speedway.

Surviving are his wife, Judith Beck Cook of Fort Mill; three sons, James "Buster" Cook Jr. of Midland, N.C., Richard Beck of Indian Land and James Cook III of Fort Mill; five daughters, Teresa Clement of Mooresville, N.C., Annette Cook of Columbia, Rebecca Guest of Baltimore, Lillian Sorrells of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and Julie Beck of Fort Mill; his sister, Doris Cook of Indian Land; 18 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Lois Bell

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Lois S. Bell, 89, formerly of Blacksburg, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Peachtree Centre in Gaffney.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Broad River Baptist Church in Blacksburg, with the Revs. Clarence Hampton and Norman Philbeck officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

A native of Cherokee County, Mrs. Bell was the widow of Hall W. Bell. She was a daughter of the late Dave Sanders and Elizabeth Ervin Sanders. She was a retired nurse and was a member of Broad River Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, William H. Bell of Gilchrist, Texas, David W. Bell of Kansas City, Mo., and Dale E. Bell of Lynchburg, Va.; her daughter, Barbara B. Clark of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Joe Sanders of Summerville and Dale Sanders of Spartanburg; three sisters, Carol Benton of Blacksburg, Grace Cash of Gaffney and Joyce Turner of Rock Hill; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service Monday, and at other times at the home of her sister, 1215 W. Cherokee St.

Sam Boular Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Sam Boular Jr., 45, of 1331 Ogden Road died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Parker Funeral Home, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating.

Mr. Boular was employed with the city of Rock Hill and was a graduate of Rock Hill High School.

Surviving are his daughter, Tiffany Thompson of Rock Hill; his brother, Larry Boular of Rock Hill; two sisters, Christine Ray of Atlanta and Phyllis Gordon of Rock Hill; and his grandchild.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Funeral home and at other times at the home of David Gordon, 1331 Ogden Road.
