Margaret Diggs

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Margaret Diggs, formerly of Chesapeake, Va., died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth, Va. Burial will be at Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Va.

A native of Orangeburg, Mrs. Diggs was a daughter of the late Martha Thompson Isom. She was the widow of Charles Edward Diggs. She was a graduate of Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill and Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, where she was initiated in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She retired from the Norfolk, Va., public school system. She moved to Columbia in April.

Surviving are her daughter, Lynnette Patrice Diggs of the home; three sisters, Mary Edna Dawson and Andrea Harney, both of Charles-ton, and Melinda Isom of Selina, Kan.; and two brothers, Raymond Isom of Charleston and Willie James Isom of Selina, Kan.

Memorials may be made to United Hospice, 6300 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212.

The family will receive friends at noon Wednesday at the church.

EDGEMOOR - Mr. Gary Hinson, 55, of 5053 Wendover Lane died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Virginia Kirkpatrick

INDIAN LAND - Mrs. Virginia Tucker Kirkpatrick, 68, of 246 Laurel Hill Road died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Olivett Presbyterian Church in McConnells, with the Rev. Benny Green officiating.

A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ida Purser Tucker. A homemaker, Mrs. Kirkpatrick was an active member of the Avon Corp., where she was a member of the President's Club. She was the widow of William Kirkpatrick and a member of Indian Land Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Larry Kirkpatrick of Denver, Charles Kirkpatrick of Pineville, N.C., and Tim Kirkpatrick of Indian Land; two daughters, Linda Singleton of Myrtle Beach and Wanda Philemon of Fort Mill; her brother, Tommy Tucker of Charlotte; her sister, Joyce Sullivan of Pageland; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Indian Land Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Indian Land Baptist Church, 7583 Charlotte Highway, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Neil Johnson

TEGA CAY - Mr. Neil Henry Johnson, 67, of 5074 Tara Tea Drive died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Art Gatewood officiating. Committal service will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbarium Memorial Gardens at St. John's Episcopal Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Thomas B. Carter officiating.

A son of Mary Lillian Johnson of Modesto, Calif., and the late Fred Maxwell Johnson, he is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a licensed professional engineer and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering. He was affiliated with several professional engineering societies. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Betty Johnson; his son, Dale Johnson of Pasadena, Calif.; three daughters, Karen J. Mosher of Eugene, Ore., Kristen Dalton of Greenville, Tenn., and Sheryl Johnson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; his brother, Keith Johnson of Modesto; his sister, Gail Johnson of Modesto; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church building fund, 2955 W. S.C. 160, Fort Mill 29715 or to St. Matthias Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 4740, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Juanita Lawrence

NEW YORK - Mrs. Juanita C. Lawrence of 865 Amsterdam Ave. died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999.

The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in New York. Burial will be at Frederick Douglass Cemetery in Staten Island, N.Y.

A native of Woodruff, Mrs. Lawrence was a daughter of the late Wallace W. Cannon Sr. and Florence Brewton Cannon. She graduated from Benedict College.

Surviving are her son, David Lawrence of the Bahamas; seven sisters, Helen C. Perry of New York, Elsie C. Sanders of Rock Hill, Jessie C. Joyner of Washington, D.C., Florence C. Goodwin of Charlotte, Ada C. Underwood of Spartanburg, Mary C. Payne of Woodruff and Mildred C. Nelson of Greenville; and her brother, Wallace W. Cannon Jr. of Columbus, Ohio.

The body may be viewed from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church.

Lillian McCormick

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lillian "Sister" Bryant McCormick, 60, of 871 Briarfield Road died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laurelwood Cemtery, with the Rev. Dr. Shelton Sanford officiating.

A daughter of Lillian A. Bryant of Rock Hill and the late Max W. Bryant Sr., Mrs. McCormick was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a executive salesperson for Eastern Airlines.

Surviving in addition to her mother is her brother, Max W. Bryant Jr. of Tega Cay; her sister, Angel Bryant Smith of Rock Hill; many niece and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Thomas Peay Jr.

FORT MILL - Mr. Thomas Lamar Peay Jr., 80, of Fort Mill died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Jack Hardaway officiating.

A native of Ridgeway, Mr. Peay was a son of the late Thomas Lamar Peay Sr. and Henrietta Eleanor DesPortes Peay. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. where he worked as a engineer in the power plant. During World War II, Mr. Peay served in the Army Corps of Engineers and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 9138 and American Legion Post No. 43. Mr. Peay was a charter member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Catawba Masonic Lodge, the 32nd Scottish Rite and Hejaz Shrine. He also was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the BPO Elks Rock Hill Lodge No. 1318 and the John Boy's Texaco Coffee Club.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Gossett Peay; his daughter, Ann Potter of Hollywood, Fla.; his sister, Sarah Peay Gaston of Greenville; and his niece and nephew.

Masonic rites will be 6:30 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home, after which the family will receive friends until 9 p.m. The family will receive friends at other times at home, 102 Brick Yard Road in Fort Mill.

Edna Zedaker

FORT MILL - Miss Edna May Zedaker, 84, of Fort Mill died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at White Oak Manor of Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Covenant ARP Church on Elkwood Circle in Charlotte, with the Rev. James McLurkin officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

A native of Charlotte, she was a daughter of the late John Kirk Zedaker and Jessie Cochrane Zedaker. She was a member of New Covenant ARP Church. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Burk W. Fox from 1944 until 1978. She was active in the educational development in the Charlotte Dental Assistants Society and the North Carolina Dental Assistants Association, of which she served as president from 1953 to 1954. She was president of the American Dental Assistants Association in 1966 and earned the Achievement Award from American Dental Assistants Association in 1982. After retirement, she operated a doll repair business, Z's Dolls, for 15 years.

Surviving are her sister, Louise Z. Harris of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to New Covenant ARP Church, 2514 Elk-wood Circle, Charlotte, NC 28205 or to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 29202.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home, Pineville Chapel.

Donald Bailey

LANCASTER - Mr. Donald Carroll Bailey, 62, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grady Ghent officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Bailey was a son of the late Hazel Strait Bailey and Lena Hinson Bailey. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Joy Club. Mr. Bailey was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Neal Bailey; his son, D. Matthew Bailey of Kershaw; his daughter, Cara Cox of Lancaster; his brother, Hazel Franklin Bailey of Lancaster; and his sister, Evangeline McFadden of Fort Lawn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Charles Frazier Jr.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mr. Charles Bryant Frazier Jr., 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Frazier grew up in the Bessemer community and was retired from Cone Mills. He was the widower of Ruby Martin Frazier. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his son, Charles R. Frazier of Rock Hill; two daughters, Patricia Satterwhite and Brenda Robertson, both of Greensboro; two sisters, Bonnie Lee Way and Sybil Lowdermilk, both of Greensboro; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel in Greensboro.

John Gibson Jr.

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. John Neal Gibson Jr., 39, of 2512 Natures Trail died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Cemetery, with Mr. Norman Nichols officiating.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Gibson was a son of Virginia Woods Gibson Pack of Blackstock and the late John Neal Gibson. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a former employee of J. P. Stevens Co. and attended Chester County schools.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Brenda Wright Gibson; his son, John Neal Gibson III of Spartanburg; his daughter, Brenda Lynn Gibson of Spartanburg; his brother, Todd Gibson of Rock Hill; two sisters, Judy Roberts and Carol Banks, both of Blackstock; and his grandson.

Marion Hancock

FORT LAWN - Mr. Marion Hancock, 89, of Fort Lawn died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at United Pentecostal Church in Rock Hill. Burial will be at Fort Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Rachel Hammond

CLOVER - Mrs. Rachel Windell Hammond, 80, of 409 Knox St. died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Poore and Calvin Draffin officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Hammond was a daughter of the late Henry Otis Windell and Mattie Epps Windell. She was a graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill and taught in the Clover school district for several years. Mrs. Hammond was retired as a social worker with the South Carolina Department of Social Services. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, William D. Hammond; two sons, Dr. Kent Hammond of Piedmont and Dr. Daniel Hammond of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

CATAWBA - Mr. Gary Douglas Hinson, 55, of 5053 Wendover Lane died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hinson was a son of Jewel Sutton Hinson of Rock Hill and the late Hazel Hinson. He was a retired produce manager at Bi-Lo Food Stores. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Gale Rains Hinson; two sons, Kevin D. Hinson and Brian Hinson, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Donna H. Thomas of Catawba, Kim H. Morton of Edgemoor and Kelly K. Hinson of Rock Hill; four brothers, Ronald Hinson and Jimmy Hinson, both of Catawba, and Roddey Hinson of Lesslie and Wayne Hinson of Rock Hill; three sisters, Mydra Corder, Debra Hinson and Linda George, all of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Isaiah Nash

FORT MILL - Mr. Isaiah Nash, 65, of 108 Juniper St. died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, with the Rev. M.N. Baxter officiating and the Rev. Sheila Strait assisting. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Nash was a son of the late Sylvester Nash and Inita White. He was a retired cement finisher and served in the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Corinthia C. Nash of Fort Mill; his daughter, Corrinna Nash of Fort Mill; his brother, Elliotte Nash of Fort Mill; three sisters, Daisy Wilson and Perline Davis, both of Fort Mill, and Rosa Nash of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church and at other times at the home.
