Marvin Weaver

ROCK HILL -"Mr. Marvin Latham Weaver, 75, of 1951 Marett Blvd. died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with Father William Pentis officiating.

Mr. Weaver was a son of the late Lender and Eva Funderburk Weaver. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service and was a member of the VFW Post 2889 and the American Legion Post 34. He was retired from the Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. as a security officer with 30 years experience.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Hauner Weaver; his brother, Eugene Weaver of Warrenton, Ga.; and four sisters, Margie Dawkins of Charlotte, Jewell Allred of York, Desaree Powell of Anderson and Joyce Aldridge of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, Building Fund, 1696 Bird St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Virginia Todd

FLORENCE - Mrs. Virginia Leah Poulos Todd, 70, of 5708 Backwoods Drive, Lot 5, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Florence National Cemetery.

Mrs. Todd was a daughter of the late George and Carrie Lundy Poulos. A member of Florence Baptist Temple and the Senior Saints Sunday school class, she was a retired healthcare worker. She was the widow of Henry M.E. Todd.

Surviving are two sons, Darrell E. Todd of Angora, Minn., and Larry D. Todd of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Martha T. Robinson of Rock Hill and Wanda J. Olsen of Long Branch, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 S. Irby St., Florence, SC.

William Bruce Jr.

MITCHELLVILLE, Md. - The Rev. William Kenneth Bruce Jr., formerly of Louisville, Ky., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999.

The funeral was Oct. 13 in Upper Marlboro, Md. Burrial was at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.

The Rev. Bruce was a professor of homiletics at Washington Saturday College on Howard University's campus in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Vance Bruce, formerly of Chester, now of Mitchellville; and his brother, Dennis Bruce of Louisville, Ky.

Christopher King's Funeral Home is in charge of the local announcement.

Herbert Neal

ROCK HILL - Mr. Herbert Neal of 1334 Milling Road died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Mason officiating and the Rev. John T. McCoy assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Neal was a construction worker and was a member of the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are his stepdaughter, Dorothy Currence of Rock Hill; his sister, Carrie Hall of Rock Hill; two brothers, Ernest Neal of Rock Hill and William Neal of Atlantic City, N.J.; his special friend, Nellie Rose-boro of Rock Hill; and three step-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 today at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Edward Powers Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Edward Cecil Powers Sr., 82, of 3461 Flat Creek Road died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church, with the Revs. Donald Ghant and Melvin Adams officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Powers a son of the late Jasper Edward Powers and Ella Knight Powers. He was a retired employee of Springs Industries Grace Bleachery. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a World War II Army Veteran. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline Merritt Powers; three sons, Edward Cecil Powers Jr. and Carson Roy Powers, both of Lancaster, and Jeffery Paul "Hoppy" Powers of Fort Lawn; two daughters, Frances Reid and Carolyn Goodman, both of Lancaster; his sister, Mildred Henry of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202.

Paulette Preston

ROCK HILL - Ms. Paulette Elizabeth Preston, 41, of 1258 Chandler Drive died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in York.

A memorial service will be 5:30 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating.

A native of New York City, Ms. Preston was a daughter of Ruth Preston and the late Paul Preston.

Surviving, in addition to her mother are her daughter, Lavonne Hanna of York; her sister, Adrianne Jewell of Fair Play; and three granddaughters.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, Ruth Preston, 603 Hunter Street in York.

Earl White

CHESTER - Mr. Earl Darnell White, 40, formerly of Chester, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christopher King's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Mount Prospect Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. White was a son of the late Paul Walker White and Bobbie Joe Kennedy White. He was educated in Chester County public schools.

Surviving are his daughter, Charmaine Mayo of Delaware; two sisters, Rachel Kennedy of Chester and Cuffette White of Charlotte; three brothers, Charles White of Rembert, Ricky White of Columbia and Paul White of Chester; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Rachel Kennedy, 146 Stadium Drive, Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Christopher King's Funeral Home.

Eddie Nicholson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Eddie Harold Nicholson, 49, of 373 Plantation Road died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Revs. Steve Roberts and Jesse Sims officiating. Burial will be at Grand View Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Nicholson was a son of Grover Nicholson and Betty Osborne Nicholson of Mountain Rest. He was a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church and worked as a tinsmith at Celanese Corp. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 385 in Rock Hill, Sons of Confederate Veterans-Micah Jenkins Camp and participated in the martial arts, Tae Kwon Do. He also participated in Civil War re-enactments.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Sue Elkins Nichol-son; his daughter, Crystal Nicholson of the home; and his sister, Beth N. Roberts of Westminster.

Masonic rites will be given at Greene Funeral Home at 6:30 tonight. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Brigadier General Micah J. Jenkins Camp No. 1569, Sons of Confederate Veterans, 1882 Steelechase Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Brown Sistare

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Brown Sistare, 60, of 4691 Great Falls Highway, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Thurman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Sistare was the son of the late Carlson and Sally Sistare. He was a retired mechanic for Springs Industries Grace Bleachery engineering department and was a member of Springhill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Daphine Sistare of the home; his son, Bobby Sistare of Pageland; four daughters, Chasity Sistare of the home; and Cynthia Rutledge, Susan Sistare and Donna Sistare, all of Lancaster; two brothers, Jack Sistare of Pageland and Harold Sistare of Monroe; two sisters, Elizabeth Stacks and Barbara Laney, both of Lancaster; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home,1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., 211 E. 43rd St., New York, N.Y. 10017.

Lloyd Gaither

PHILADELPHIA - Mr. Lloyd Gaither, formerly of Great Falls, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church in Great Falls, with the Rev. Z.B. Wells officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Gaither is a son of Fletcher Gaither and the late Pearlie Mae Maloney Gaither. He was educated in the Pennsylvania public schools.

Surviving are his son, Keelo Gaither of Philadelphia; his brother, Michael Gaither of Great Falls; two sisters, Emila Lee Gaither Dunlap and Thelma G. Steel, both of Great Falls; and two grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 5:45 p.m. tonight at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road in Chester and from 7 to 9 tonight at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church.

Earl White

CHESTER - Mr. Earl Darnell White, 40, formerly of Chester, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Christopher King's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Stringfellow officiating. Burial will be at Mount Prospect Baptist Church cemetery.

Leroy Wynn

CHESTER - Mr. Leroy Wynn, 70, of 113 Caldwell St., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Neal officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Born in Chester, Mr. Wynn was the son of the late Preston and Verlee Wynn. He was a graduate of Finley Senior High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Wynn was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the board of trustees. He was a retired employee of the city of Chester.

Surviving are his brother, Marion Wynn of Chester; and his god-daughter, Ruby Crosby of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ruby Crosby, 110 Bailey St., Chester. Mr. Wynn will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. Thursday until the service.

Gore's Funeral Home is in charge.

Eddie Nicholson

Willie Byous

COLUMBIA - Mr. Willie J. Byous, 58, of 8110 Fairglen Lane, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at First Calvary Baptist Church. A second service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Truevine Baptist Church in Cleveland, with the Rev. Edward McGee officiating. The Rev. Larry Harris will give the eulogy. Internment will follow in Cleveland.

A native of Cleveland, Mr. Byous was the son of Jesse J. Byous and Carlee Johnson Byous. He was a member of Truevine Baptist Church. He graduated from Glenville High School and attended college. He was a retired 1st sergeant in the U.S. Army for 27 years and was a correctional officer for South Carolina for 10 years.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Gwendolyn S. Byous; his son, Lucious Harris Jr. of Columbia; two daughters, Kimberly Anderson of Columbia and Narcissus Byous of Orangeburg; his sister, Jessie Mae Byous of Cleveland; and four grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, and from 3 to 6 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia.

The family will receive friends at 8110 Fairglen Lane in Columbia, following the service at First Calvary Baptist Church.
