Evelyn Childers

YORK - Mrs. Evelyn Montgomery Childers, 82, of 63 Fourth St. died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at York Church of God, with the Rev. James L. Garner officiating and the Rev. Donald Hawkins assisting. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mrs. Childers was a daughter of the late James Franklin Montgomery and Belle Ashe Montgomery. Mrs. Childers was a retired weaver from Cannon Mills in York. She was a charter member of the York Church of God, where she taught the Ladies Bible Class and was active in the Ladies Ministries.

Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn C. Yarborough of Calhoun Falls; two brothers, James "Buck" Montgomery of Appleton, Wis., and Ernest "Opossum" Montgomery of Sharon; three sisters, Mary Lee Huskins of Columbus, Ga., Ola Ramsey of York and Helen Montgomery of Sharon; her grandchild; and her great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to York Church of God, 210 Charlotte St., York, SC 29745 or Calhoun Falls Church of God, P.O. Box 482, Calhoun Falls, SC 29628-0482.

Otis Cureton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Otis Cureton of 339 Arnold St. died Wednesday. Oct. 27, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Cureton attended First Calvary Baptist Church. He attended York County public schools.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald Cureton or Charlotte and Marvin Cureton of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

Raymond Dennis Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Raymond Luther "Ray" Dennis Sr., 79, of 522 Rock Springs Road died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Steve Morgan and Eugene McLeod officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Rembert, Mr. Dennis was a son of the late John Thomas Dennis and Martha Jane Green Dennis. He was a 1941 graduate of Wofford College and served in the Army during World War II. He was owner and operator of Ray's Flower for 50 years from 1946 to 1996. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and was a member of the Chancel Choir and Methodist Men.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Cauthen Dennis; two sons, Raymond Luther Dennis Jr. of Charlotte and David McClean Dennis of Atlanta; his daughter, Laura Anne Dennis Godwin of Charlotte; his brother, V. Patrick Dennis of Rembert; two sisters, Martha Dennis Buddin of Rock Hill and Frances Dennis Moore of Fall Church, Va.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made First United Methodist Church building fund, 200 W. Gay St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Emily Dunnells

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dunnells, 93, of Rock Hill, formerly of Brewster, Mass., died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Westminster Healthcare Center.

Services will be held at a later date in Brewster, Mass.

A homemaker, Mrs. Dunnells was a longtime member of Brewster Baptist Church. She was the widow of W. Winslow Dunnells.

Surviving are two sons, Lee Dunnells of Brookline, Mass., and Buzz Dunnells of Fort Mill; her daughter, Sally Harvin of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Harry and Bryant Co. in Charlotte is in charge.

Kathryn Graham

KERSHAW - Mrs. Kathryn Shepherd Graham, 88, of 4516 Gold Mine Highway died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home.

A native of Forty Fort, Pa., Mrs. Graham was a daughter of the late William Grand Shepherd and Kathryn Moeller Shepherd.

Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Hilton of Kershaw; her sister, Eleanor Landsberg of Wellfleet, Mass.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Richard and Joyce Hilton, 4514 Gold Mine Highway.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Belton Harris

LANCASTER - Mrs. Belton Browder Harris, 90, of 601 W. Meeting St. died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III and the Rev. John Mullis officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Richland County, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late Thomas Benjamin Browder and Clara Burns Browder. She was the widow of Robert L. Harris. Mrs. Harris was a retired employee of Springs Industries. She was a member of Second Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a department director in the WMU. She served as Moriah Association WMU director and held other position in the association. She also served on the state WMU Executive Board.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara H. Gardner and Macy Mullis, both of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Julian Lake

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mr. Julian Lake, 92, of Arbor Lakes died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. A private graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Forsyth Memorial Park.

A native of Atlanta, Mr. Lake was a son of the late Frank Greer Lake and Mary Irene Burr Lake. He graduated from Davidson College in 1928 and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va., in 1931. He studied at the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem, Princeton Theological Seminary and the American Summer Institute in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Mr. Lake was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1931 in Warrenton, Va., and received his doctor of divinity degree from Davidson College in 1945.

The churches he served include Warrenton Presbyterian Church, Warrenton, Va.; Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill; First Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Tenn.; First Presbyterian Church, Winston-Salem; Brownson Presbyterian Church, Southern Pines, N.C.; and Shandon Presbyterian Church, Columbia.

He retired in 1972 and later served seven interim pastorates throughout the Southeast. He was volunteer chaplain at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in 1980s and 1990s.

Mr. Lake was a life member of the Winston-Salem Kiwanis Club. He organized and was chairman of the Bristol and Winston-Salem Preaching Missions. He was a member of the board of trustees at Davidson College, St. Andrews College and Union Theological Seminary. He was president of the Arbor Acres Residential Council.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Roberta Gilmour; three children, Julian Gilmour Lake and Elizabeth Lake Orr, both of Winston-Salem, and Margaret Scott Lake Lindsay of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Julian and Robert Lake Scholarship Fund at Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond or the Robert Lake Fund at First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem or the Mountain Retreat Association in Montreat, N.C., earmarked for the Robert Lake Park.

Jennifer Bradley

CLOVER - Miss Jennifer Lyn Bradley, 17, of 2550 South U.S. 321, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastview Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Rick Martin officiating and the Rev. Mark Crews assisting. Burial will be at Eastview Baptist Church cemetery.

The daughter of Robert R. Bradley and Brenda M. Bradley, Jennifer was a senior at York Comprehensive High School. She worked after school for the Western York County YMCA, York Branch. She was a member of the National Vocational-Technical Honor Society, the National Honor Society and Who's Who American Teens. She was a member of Eastview Baptist Church, where she was active with the youth.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her brother, Robert R. Bradley III of the home; her paternal grandparents, Roy and Margaret Bradley of Gaffney; and her maternal grandparents, Floyd and Hazel Myers of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Eastview Baptist Church family life center.

Memorials may be made to Eastview Baptist Church building fund, 1430 Gordon Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

John Martin Jr.

BLACKSBURG - Mr. John Martin Jr., 80, of 101 Ramseur St. died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery, with the Revs. Ken Reid and James Clark Sr. officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Martin was a son of the late John A. Martin Sr. and Effie Allison Martin. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Caroline Beam Martin; two daughters, Janie Wilder of Gastonia, N.C., and Joyce Moorhead of Blacksburg; his brother, George Martin of Gastonia; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg, and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342 or to a charity of one's choice.

Lemuel Holroyd Jr.

MOUNT PLEASANT - Mr. Lemuel Grier Holroyd Jr., 77, of 917 Ran-dall Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., downtown chapel. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Holroyd was a son of the late L.G. Holroyd and Nadine Easterling Holroyd. He was a 1942 graduate of North Charleston High School and attended The Citadel. He served in the Air Force in World War II and was formerly employed with Quanta Systems and Metro Electric Co. He also owned Wood Things. He served as an accepted supply pastor for the United Methodist churches at Midland Park, Folly Beach and St. Andrew's in Pierpont and was a former member of Hibben United Methodist Church. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Mr. Holroyd was a former member of the North Charleston Optimist Club, past president of the Mount Pleasant Optimist Club and served for two years a president of the American Cancer Society New Voice Club. He was a charter member of the Easterling Family Genealogical Society, a member of the South Carolina Travelers Protective Association Post D and the American Legion Post

No. 33 in Washington. He served as a LittleLeague baseball coach and coached semi-pro softball and baseball teams in the East Cooper area.

Surviving are his wife, Georgette Barton Holroyd; his son, L.G. "Rusty" Holroyd III of Dunn, N.C.; his daughter, Schileen H. Kinard of Charleston; two brothers, Robert L. Holroyd of Houston, Mo., and George E. Holroyd of Charleston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun St., Charleston.

Billy Goodson Sr.

MARIETTA, Ga. - Mr. Billy S. Goodson Sr., 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at a Marietta hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. Burial will be at Lamar Cemetery.

A native of Lamar, Mr. Goodson was a son of the late Luther Goodson and Annie Windham Goodson. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a disabled veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ham Goodson of Acworth, Ga.; his son, Billy S. Goodson Jr. of Kennesaw, Ga.; his daughter, June Goodson Larson of Rock Hill; his sister, Janet Rogers of Lamar; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Otis Cureton

David Ormand Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. David Anderson Ormand Jr., 69, of Lancaster died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999.

A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Hopper officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Ormand was a son of the late David Anderson Ormand Sr. and Edna Earle Roberts Ormand. He was a retired painter and was a member of Camp Creek Masonic Lodge No. 317, where he served as past master. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are two sons, James Dennis Blackmon and William Michael Blackmon, both of Lancaster; three sisters, Frances Steele, Peggy Flynn and Nancy Jenkins, all of Lancaster; four brothers, Robert L. "Bob" Ormand, J.P. Ormand, and Charles Ray Ormand, all of Lancaster, and Marion P. Ormand of Cherokee, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Nancy Jenkins, 2119 Camp Creek Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, family life center fund, 3734 Heyward Hough Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
