Viola Langford

SALUDA - Mrs. Viola Merchant Langford, 87, of Route 3 Blue Bird Road, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Ramey Funeral Home chapel, with the Revs. Denise Childers and Nelson Ledwell officiating. Burial will be at Travis Park Cemetery.

Born in Saluda County, Mrs. Langford was a daughter of the late Ben Lewis Merchant and Mary Allene Corley Merchant. She was a long-time member of the Newberry-Saluda and American rose societies; she was a horticulture and arrangements judge and consulting Rosarian in the American Rose Society. A member of the Saluda Garden Club, she was a district director for the West Sandhills District of the Garden Clubs of South Carolina. She was also a member of the Bishop Dawsey Circle, the Ida Crouch Sunday school class and Young in the Heart of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was in the Home Demonstration Club of Saluda County and was a Master Homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, James F. Langford Sr.; two sons, J. Fred Langford of Rock Hill and Ben M. Langford of Lexington, N.C.; two daughters, Katilene L. Holmes of Cary, N.C., and Shirley L. Logan of Greenwood; her brother, B. Lewis Merchant of Saluda; two sisters, Rosale M. Conner of Timmonsville and Mabel M. Hinson of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Ramey Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Dorothy Morganstern

SUMTER - Mrs. Dorothy Chambers Morganstern, 65, of 319-B Picardy Drive died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church in York, with the Rev. Thomas McPhail officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Morganstern was a daughter of Belle Campbell Chambers and the late Henry Clarence Chambers. She worked in memorial garden sales. She was a member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Wayne R. Morganstern; two sons, Jimmy Oates and Danny Oates, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Janice Oates Mathis of Rock Hill; two stepdaughters, Jane O'Brien of Florida and Jill Sotzing of Ohio; her brother, Henry Neal Chambers of Anderson; her sister, Julia Chambers Curry of York; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Reola Robinson

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Miss Reola Isabelle Robinson, 85, or 328 E. Water St., died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home chapel in Clover, with the Rev. Mary McKey officiation. Burial will be about Beersheba Presbyterian Church cemetery in York.

A native of York County, Miss Robinson was a daughter of the late Newman Foster Robinson and Cynthia Ellen Biggers Robinson. She was the owner and operator of Robinson's of Lincolnton, a ladies dress shop, and an employee of Alda Crowe's in Lincolnton.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary R. Putnam of Shelby, N.C., Nelle R. Strickland of Wadesboro, N.C., and Eunice Ann Robinson of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Mary Clark

FORT MILL - Mrs. Mary Fisette Clark, 68, of 201 Marshall St. died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at home.

A memorial mass will be 5 p.m. today at the St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, with Fathers John Giuliani and Joe Pearce officiating.

A native of Pittsfield, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Fisette and Viola Eurbin Fisette. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Church and served as a Minister of the Eurcharist. She was the widow of Bob Clark.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Paige of Carson City, Nev., Kevin Paige of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Paul Paige of Worcester, Mass.; three daughters, Patricia Paige of Rindge, N.H., Kathi Casamasima of Lady Lake, Fla., and Margaret Paige of Fort Mill; her sister, Theresa Thompson of Carson City; 13 grandchildren; and four great-greatchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Phillips Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

John George

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Marvin George, 90, of 412 World Changes Lane died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the home of his daughter.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Catawba Ward, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. George was a retired carpenter, a Catawba Master Potter. He pitched for the Catawba Indians baseball team in the 1930s and was a RSVP member for the Council on Aging. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Catawba Ward.

Surviving are five sons, Howard George, Charlie George, Phillip George, John E. George and R. Wayne George, all of Rock Hill; three daughters, Faye Greiner, Jo Ann Bauer and Susan M. George, all of Rock Hill; 37 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today at the home of his daughter, Susan George, 1505 Cemetery Road, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Catawba Indian Nation Senior Building Fund.

David Ward

CLOVER - Mr. David Eric Ward, 21, of 810 Deep Hollow Court died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Clover Church of God, with the Revs. Rickey Hartsoe and Don Capell officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Mr. Ward was a son of David Ward of Stanley, N.C., and Cheryl Adams of Clover.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his stepmother, Pat Ward; his stepfather, Hayward Adams; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Ward; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCarter; his sister, Ashley Ward; and his fiancee, Jackie Biggers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Clover Church of God.

Roddy Howell

LANCASTER - Mr. Roddy Neal Howell, 53, of 2026 Rutledge Acres Road, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with his nephew, the Rev. Tommy Howell, officiating. Burial will be in Whitmire Cemetery.

Formerly of Rock Hill, Mr. Howell was a son of Gladys Hunnicutt and the late Neal Howell. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Howell worked at the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. for 33 years. Mr. Howell was a Mason and was known as "Coach" Rowdy because he was a former football coach in the Rock Hill recreation league and at the grammar school level.

Surviving are his son, Mark Howell of Rock Hill; his daughter, Heather Treadway of Rock Hill; his mother, Gladys Hunnicutt of Kingsport, Tenn.; his brother, Stan Howell of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the home of Stan and Barbara Howell, 2026 Rutledge Acres Road, Lancaster.

Mamie Adams

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mamie Blue Adams, 87, of 127 Murrah Drive died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Magnolia Manor.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Lancaster.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Fred Nelson Blue and Lucy Leola Watts Blue. She was the widow of Roddey Benjamin "R.B." Adams. She was a member of Park Baptist Church and was involved with Going Like Sixty, a senior citizens group at church. She was Rock Hill's first Mother of the Year in 1957. Mrs. Adams retired in 1976 from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. with 40 years service.

Surviving are five sons, Nelson "Judd" Adams of Rock Hill, Clarence R. Adams of Hinesville, Ga., Franklin D. Adams of West Columbia, and James R. Adams and Dewey L. Adams, both of Fort Mill; two daughters, Josephine Adams Hunter of Chester and Jane Adams Johnson of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lillie Blue Hunter of Kaysville, Utah, and Mary Jane Blue Elkins of Rock Hill; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her granddaughter, Robin, 814 Thistle-down Drive, Rock Hill, SC 19730.

Katherine Brice

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Katherine Hall Kennedy Brice of 1022 Hough Circle died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.S. Sanders officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Brice attended Flint Hill Baptist Church. She was a 1960 graduate of Emmett Scott High School. She attended Clinton Junior College.

Surviving are her husband, Willie Brice; two sons, Jerome Kennedy and Dennis Hall, both of Rock Hill; four daughters, Sandra Kennedy of Edgemoor, Denise Wylie, Bernice Hall and Mia Kennedy, all of Rock Hill; her father, James Hall of Spartan-burg; her mother, Janie Hall of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

James Darby

CHESTER - Mr. James N. Darby, 45, of 114 Liberty Road died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Kip Vinson officiating.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Darby was a son of Mary Bell Allen Darby of Chester and the late Zed Wylie Darby. He was owner-operator of Darby Construction Co. of Chester.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Frances Clack Darby; two sons, J. Jason Darby and Josh C. Darby, both of Chester; his daughter, Connie F. Darby of Chester; three brothers, Edison Darby, Zeddie Darby and Wallace Darby, all of Chester; two sisters, Vivian Huntington and Mary Davis, both of Chester; and four grandchildren.

The body will be taken home late this afternoon, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight.

Gloria Faile

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Gloria Gwin Faile of 416 E. White St. died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Della Sparks, her sister, and Charles Gwin, her brother, officiating. Burial will be noon Thursday at El Bethel United Methodist Church in Fort Lawn, which will be followed by a luncheon.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Faile was a daughter of Etta Norris Gwin and the late Cecil B. Gwin. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lancaster, where she was in the United Methodist Church Women Organization and the Disciple Group. She worked at INA-USA in various positions, including as a customer-service representative.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, John Faile; two sons, Andre Stroud of Cincinnati and Michael "Shane" Dempsey of Rock Hill; two daughters, Kimberly "Starr" Stroud of Newport and Dawn Mirch of Rock Hill; her stepdaughter, Melissa Urkel of Lancaster; her brother, Charles Gwin of Greenville; her sister, Della Sparks of Catawba; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. after the memorial service Wednesday.

Eunie Ghent

LANCASTER - Mrs. LaEunie Faye Brown Ghent, 69, of 2429 Char-lotte Highway died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. John Fastenau and Carlos Gardner officiating. Burial will be at St. Luke United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Cordova, N.C., Mrs. Ghent was a daughter of the late Ed Brown and Beulah McKnight Brown. She was a retired teller for First Citizens Bank, a member of Eastern Star and St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Harry Wade Ghent; her son, Rick Ghent of Lancaster; three daughters, Debbie Barrett of Lancaster, Kathy Zimmerman of Fort Mill and Linda Marshall of Lancaster; 9 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to American Red Cross, Flood Relief Fund, 114 Williams St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Margie Hammond

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Margie H. Hammond, 67, of Columbia died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ascension Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Hammond was a daughter of Mary Whitlock Hannon of Rock Hill and the late Sam Hannon. She was retired from Perry Mann Electric Co. and was employed at Rack Room Shoes on Harbison Boulevard. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her daughter, Libby McDonald of Columbia; two sons, Jeff Hammond and Roger Hammond, both of Columbia; her brother, Bill Hannon of Spar-tanburg; eight grandchildren; and her former husband, James H. Hammond.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
