Rebecca Williamson

McCONNELLS - Miss Rebecca Williamson, 88, of 110 Ferndale Road died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Anthony Dick and Samuel Hoyt officiating.

Born in York County, Miss Williamson was a daughter of the late William Harvey Williamson and Estelle Jane Davison Williamson.

A graduate of Winthrop College, she was a teacher and school counselor at Rock Hill High School. Miss Williamson was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, was active in the Presbyterian Women and taught Sunday school.

She was a member of the Asbury Coward Literary Society in York, the Historical Society at Brattonsville, Friends of the Library and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Surviving are three brothers, Neil Williamson of McConnells, William H. Williamson Jr. of Charlotte and James "Jim" Williamson of Union; five nieces; five nephews; seven great-nieces; and eleven great-nephews.

The family will receive friends following the funeral and at other times at the home of Neil Williamson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730; The Bethesda Cemetery Fund, 4858 McConnells Hwy., York, SC 29745; or to the charity of one's choice.

Cauthen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Jack Adkins

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jack Curry Adkins, 72, of 1056 Hands Mill Hwy. died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Tirzah ARP Church, with the Rev. Jan Senneker officiating. Burial will be at Tirzah ARP Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Adkins was a son of the late Fred Adkins and Kate Clyde Russell Adkins.

Mr. Adkins was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co., where he worked for 48 years. He was the fire chief of Newport Fire Department for 13 years and also one of its founding fathers. He was a member of Tirzah ARP Church, where he was an elder emeritus.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Caveny Adkins; five daughters, Cathy Morton, Jackie Byrum and Judy Herron, all of Rock Hill, and Carol Jenkins and Marti Caldwell, both of Clover; his sister, Lois Adkins Neely of Rock Hill; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Rodney Armstrong Sr.

COVINGTON, Va. - Mr. Rodney LaRue Armstrong Sr., 82, of Clearwater Park, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James A. Rohne officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Clifton Forge, Va.

A native of Clifton Forge, Mr. Armstrong was a son of the late Homer Richard Armstrong and Cornelia Hayslett Armstrong. He was a 1934 graduate of Clifton Forge High School and received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1940.

Mr. Armstrong was executive vice president and director of both the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and the Peerless Creamery of Clifton Forge. He was also executive vice president and director of the Raleigh Coca-Cola Bottling Co., of Beckley, W.Va. He was past president of the Virginia Soft Drink Bottlers Association and the Virginia and West Virginia Coca-Cola Bottlers associations.

Mr. Armstrong was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church. The Paul Harris Fellow was past president of the Covington-Hot Springs Rotary Club, past president of the Covington Retail Merchants Association, past secretary of the Alleghany County Electoral Board, past treasurer of the Alleghany Highlands Arts Center, former finance chair of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, a board member of Keep Virginia Beautiful, Inc., and lifetime member of the American Daffodil Society.

He was the widower of Frances Nair Armstrong.

Surviving are his son, Rodney L. Armstrong Jr. of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Sally Bingley of Richmond, Va., and Beverly McLaughlin of Rock Hill; his brother, James H. Armstrong of Clifton Forge; his sister, Marguerite Armstrong Neal of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Loving Funeral Home in Covington, Va.

James Brown

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Bartow Brown, 80, of 591 Rabun Circle died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert D. Shrum, and Revs. Harold Burton and Bo Coleman officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Brown was a son of the late Arthur Bartow and Lila Flemming Brown. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, where the taught Sunday school. A U.S. Navy veteran in World War II, he fought in the North Atlantic and South Pacific.

Mr. Brown was group leader of security at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was director of safety and security at Lowenstine and was on the Rock Hill police force for 15 years, where he worked in the detective division and became chief of detectives. He moved to Aiken, where he was police chief in 1965. A retired member of the S.C. Law Enforcement Association, Mr. Brown attended the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, Ky., where he earned a degree in police science and administration.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Robinson Brown; his son, J.P. Brown of Rock Hill; his daughter, Debra Diane Brown Stroud of Pineville, N.C.; his sister, Sara Foster of Rock Hill; his grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Faye Faulkenberry

EDGEMOOR - Mrs. Faye Mitchell Faulkenberry, 61, of 3523 Mount Holly Road died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Holly United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Rouse officiating.

A native of Edgemoor, Mrs. Faulkenberry was a daughter of the late Melvin S. Mitchell and Leila Sanders Mitchell. She was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women Organization. Mrs. Faulkenberry worked for Springs Industries' Lowenstein Plant as a secretary for 43 years. She loved camping and collecting bells.

Surviving are her husband, William "Bill" P. Faulkenberry; two sons, Chris Faulkenberry and Billy Faulkenberry, both of Edgemoor; her brother, Clyde Mitchell of Edgemoor; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service in the parlor at Mount Holly United Methodist Church and at other times at the home..

Memorials may be made to Mount Holly United Methodist Church, land fund, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Margaret Gregory

CHESTER - Mrs. Margaret Welch Gregory, 88, of 628 Gregory Road died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A Hartsville native, Mrs. Gregory was a daughter of the late David Welch and Carrie Lee Jones Welch. She attended Hartsville schools. She retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Chester Second Baptist Church.

She was the widow of Willie Oscar Gregory.

Surviving are two sons, Clarence W. Gregory of Lakeland, Fla., and David Eugene Gregory of Hilton Head; her daughter, Jerrie Yarborough of Chester; her half-sister, Faye Alexander of Chester; her half-brother, C.J. Yarborough of Chester; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Barron Funeral Home.

Gwendolyn Slack

CHESTER - Mrs. Gwendolyn Levister Evans Shelton Slack, 39, of 1760 Wellridge Road died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Chester County.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dale Roddey officiating. Burial will be at Cool Branch Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Slack was a daughter of the late Robert David Levister and Geneva Ramey Levister. She attended Chester schools. She was employed with Springs Industries in Fort Mill.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas Andrew "Andy" Evans Jr. of Winnsboro, Trey Shelton of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Tony Joseph "T.J." Slack Jr. of Chester; two brothers, Robert L. Levister of Abbeville and Charles Ellis Levister of Chester; seven sisters, Sally Aragon of Chester, Mary Frances Mobley of McConnells, Linda Darnelle Levister of Carlisle, Shirley Branham of Winnsboro, Barbara Freeman of Abbeville, Carolyn Bowie of Greenwood and Betty Jean Smith of Union.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Marie Williamson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Marie Jones Williamson, of 247 Carroll Park, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. James T. Barber officiating. The Rev. T.R. Jones will give the eulogy, assisted by Brother David Boone, Dr. Marion Crawford, and the Revs. W.T. Massey, Betty Hicks, B.R. Wilson and Charlie Mason. The Rev. C.S. Sanders is the pastor of Trinity Baptist.

Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Williamson was a daughter of the late Layafaith Jones and Mary Howze Jones. She was a retired homemaker and was a member of the AP&B Society, Eastern Star Electa 234 and the NAACP.

Mrs. Williamson was the widow of David "Deac" Williamson.

Surviving are four sons, David Williamson Jr. and Johnny Williamson, both of Charlotte, the Rev. James Williamson of Lake City, Fla., and Curtis Williamson of Rock Hill; three daughters, Vera Jones of Rock Hill, Mary Settles of East Orange, N.J., and Evelyn Daniels of Lancaster, Pa.; 26 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church and at other times at the home.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Macon Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday.

Calvin Aldridge

LANCASTER - Mr. Calvin Luther "Buddy" Aldridge, 50, of 2553 Aldridge Lane died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Gary McInvaille and Danny Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Aldridge was a son of the late James Paul Aldridge and Lillie Bell Freeman Aldridge. He was a retired welder for Buffalo Tank Corp. and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for 16 years.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Bryson Aldridge; two sons, James Paul Wade of Wallace and Buddy Ray Aldridge of Lancaster; two daughters, Penny Marie Aldridge of Clinton and Tasha Leanne Bryson of Lancaster; his brother, Jimmy Lee Aldridge of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

James Cook

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Edward Cook, 68, of 111 Chatham Ave. died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Bruce Wyatt officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Cook was a son of the late Zero Cook and Frances Smith Cook. He retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co., where he worked in the finishing department for more than 18 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Smith Cook; his son, Michael F. Cook of Rock Hill; three daughters, Joyce Sherrley and Carol Burns, both of York, and Kathy Krzemien of Rock Hill; five sisters, Mae Williams of Charlotte, Kathelene Coburn of Moncks Corner, Nancy Lawman of Connelly Springs, N.C., Josephine Cook of Rock Hill and Maggie Smith of Edgemoor; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 tonight at Greene Funeral home and at other times at home.

Clyde Curry

ROCK HILL - Mr. Clyde William "C.W." Curry, 64, of 1744 Kings Drive died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fishing Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. George McCoy officiating and Bishop Alfred Jackson and the Rev. William Thompson assisting. The Rev. Terry L. Wallace Jr. will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

A native of York, Mr. Curry was a son of the late William Curry and Jettie Lou Smarr Curry. Mr. Curry was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and hymn choir leader. He also was a member of the Interdenominational Prayer Band.

Surviving are his wife, Maggie Haggins Curry; two sons, Clyde William Curry Jr. of Rockwell, N.C., and Robert L. Curry of York; two daughters, Carolyn Boulware of Gastonia, N.C., and Mary Love of York; his stepson, Malven Haggins of Clover; his brother, James Curry of Gastonia, N.C.; his sister, Betty Curry Murray of Gastonia; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from noon to 7 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

James Davis

ROCK HILL - James "Solomon" Davis, 73, of 950 Carolina Extension died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rodrick Pendleton officiating and the Revs. Leroy Cole, Ronald Broome and Paul Long assisting. The Rev. W.B. White will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Garden.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Davis was a son of Carrie M. Davis of Rock Hill and the late Isaac Davis. Mr. Davis attended the public schools in York County. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. and worked as a mail clerk for Rock Hill National Bank. He was a member of George Prince Hall No. 149.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Tommie Mae Davis; four sons, Aaron Mobley of Charlotte, and James Lynell Mobley, Larry Davis and Solomon Davis Jr., all of Rock Hill; four daughters, Carrie Robert of Portsmouth, Va., Thomasina Wade and Patricia D. Jones, both of Rock Hill, and Shannon D. Rodriguez of Charlotte; two brothers, George Davis and Jesse Davis, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Leila Bowman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.
