Bennie Sanders

McCONNELLS - Mr. Bennie R. "B.R." Sanders, 74, of 800 Hawley Road died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Lowrys, with the Rev. Bobby L. Featherstone Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Sanders was a son of the late Sam Sanders and Annie Byrd Sanders. He was the widower of Julia Burris Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where he was third choir leader, note choir leader, member of trustee board and yard attendant. He was a member of the APSociety No. 8 and Burning Bush Masonic Lodge No. 186. He retired from BFI in Charlotte in 1987. He was a farmer.

Surviving are three sons, Dennis Spencer Sanders of York, George Frank Sanders of Charlotte and Johnny Ray Sanders of McConnells; four daughters, Sarah Sanders of the home, and Luveria Curry, Velma Kay Hughes and Deborah White, all of McConnells; his sister, Louella Baccus of Rock Hill; his brother, John Albert Sanders of Philadelphia; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Masonic Rites will be 6 tonight at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Blanca Angeles

LANCASTER - Miss Blanca Andrea Angeles, infant daughter of Karen Melissa Gulledge and Ismael Badillo Angeles of 1005 Sara Drive died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Jesus Gulledge of Lancaster, and three sisters, Joanna Gulledge, Stephanie Gulledge and Brinna Gulledge, all of Lancaster.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Beatty

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Robert "Deeboy" Beatty, 70, of Charlotte, formerly of Richburg, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home in Charlotte, with the Rev. Mary Rice officiating. Burial will be at York Memorial Park.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Beatty was a son of the late Rob Beatty and Bessie Beatty. He attended Chester County public schools and was employed by Rea Construction Co. for 40 years.

Surviving are his wife, Helen S. Beatty of Charlotte; four daughter, Delores Martin, Jeanette Martin and Georgia Glenn, all of Blair, and Mary E. Tidwell of Charlotte; four sons, Derrick Beatty of Columbia, John L. Beatty of Lancaster, Henry A. Beatty of New Jersey and Johnny L. Gladney of Charlotte; his stepmother, Louella Beatty of Richburg; five sisters, Susie B. Gist, Elizabeth Crane, Katherine Greene, Sarah Harris and Elizabeth Crockett, all of Richburg; two brothers, Odell Beatty and William L. Beatty, both of Richburg; and a number of grandchildren.

Kings Funeral Home, 4000 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, is in charge.

Ruth Bess

GROVER, N.C. - Mrs. Ruth Harmon Bess, 87, of 1527 Long Branch Road died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Allen Memorial Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tim R. Lowry and Norris Willis officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Cleveland County, N.C., Mrs. Bess was a daughter of the late Lonzo Webb Harmon and Nellie Carpenter Harmon. She was the widow of Paul Thomas Bess. Mrs. Bess was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church and a graduate of Waco High School.

Surviving are her son, Larry Bess of Grover; two daughters, Pauline Cabaniss of York and Kay Patterson of Grover; four sisters, Mildred Wright and Belle Allen, both of Shelby, N.C., Aileen Sinclair of Gerton, N.C., and Nell Farrell of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Larry and Gail Bess, 1535 Long Branch Road, Grover.

Virginia Clark

CHESTER - Mrs. Virginia H. Clark, 58, of 2258 Aaron Burr Road died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Don Steger officiating. Burial will be at Beatties Ford Memorial Garden.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mrs. Clark was a daughter of the late Nellie Howie and Calvin Martin. She joined Wilson Memorial Presbyterian Church at an early age and was a member of First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Charlotte, where she sang in the choir. She attended the Mecklenburg County public schools. She was formerly employed by National Linen Service in Charlotte.

Surviving are her husband, Marion L. Clark; her son, Charles A. Clark of Chester; three brothers, Larry Howie of Newark, N.J., James Howie of Charlotte and Willie Howie of Colorado.

The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester and at other times at King's Funeral Home, 4000 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte.

Willie Cole

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Willie Mae Foster Tennyson Cole, 94, formerly of 1750 Drayton Road, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, with the Revs. Gary Adkins and Heyward Comer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. Cole was a daughter of the late Samuel Judson Foster and Carrie Moore Foster. She was the widow of Ryan Tillman Cole. She was first married to the late Fred Oliver Tennyson. She was a member of Temple Methodist Church.

Surviving are four sons, A. Leon Tennyson of Spartanburg, D. Samuel Tennyson of Rock Hill, J. William "Bill" Tennyson of Chesnee and Robert L. Tennyson of Pauline; four daughters, Evelyn T. Taylor of Spartanburg, Doris T. Revels of Cowpens, Joyce T. Parris of Drayton and Elizabeth T. Dover of Spartanburg; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel and at other times at the home of Evelyn Taylor, 127 Pennell St., Spartanburg.

Charles Franks

LANCASTER - Mr. Charles Woodrow Franks, 83, of 933 Forest Drive died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Ernest Thompson and Samuel N. Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Westside Cemetery.

A native of Laurens, Mr. Franks was a son of the late John Henry Franks and Eva Owens Franks. He was the widower of Mary Jones Franks. Mr. Franks was a retired rural mail carrier and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Franks was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and member of the men's Bible class and Monday morning prayer breakfast.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the home.

James Miller

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Curtis Miller of 1127 Constitution Blvd. died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greater Foundation AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Leroy McCrea officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Miller was a son of the late Dill Miller and Isabel W. McKinney. He was a member of Greater Foundation AME Zion Church, where he was a choir leader belonged to the Hymn Choir numer 2, AB&B Society. He was an Army veteran of World War II and belonged to Booker T. Washington Masonic Lodge. He attended the public schools of york county,

Surviving are the wife, Lula B. Miller of Rock Hill; one son, Paul Lindsey of Rock Hill; three daughters, Claudette Marrison of Harrisburg. Pa, Tawanda Richardson McKinney of Rock Hill, Jannatta Richardson of Rock Hill; three sisters, Sarah Miller of Winston Salem, NC; Arletha Robinson of Charlotte, Mary Patton of Rock Hill, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Matthew Zimmerman

NEWARK, N.J. - The Rev. Matthew Augustus Zimmerman Sr., of Newark, formerly of Anderson, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, N.J.

A native of Anderson, the Rev. Zimmerman was a son of the late William L. Zimmerman and C.O. Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Benedict College in Columbia and earned his bachelor of theology from Friendship College in Rock Hill. He also was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity from Friendship.

The Rev. Zimmerman was principal of Jonesville Elementary School in Jonesville for 25 years. He served on the boards of trustees at Friendship College and Morris College in Sumter. He was pastor of Mount Prospect Baptist Church in Rock Hill in 1936 and moved to Corinth Baptist Church in Union in 1942, where he served 29 years. He became pastor of Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church in 1970, where he served until his retirement in January.

Surviving are his wife, Alberta Brown Zimmerman; two daughters, Martina A. Zimmerman-Gordon of Neward and Christine O. Zimmerman of St. Louis, Mo.; three sons, Willie R. "Bill" Zimmerman-Mills, of Newark, Matthew A. Zimmerman Jr. of Alexandria, Va., and James P. Zimmerman of Jackson, N.J.; his brother, Samuel L. Zimmerman of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church.

Minnie Mobley

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Minnie Lee Mobley, of 260 Blanche Circle, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Revs. John T. McCoy and Rodney Freeman officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Mobley was a daughter of Jannie Flood of Rock Hill and the late Clarence Flood. She was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church and attended public school in York County.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her son, Jimmie Mobley of Rock Hill; her daughter, Joann Mobley Gordon of Rock Hill; three sisters, Bessie Gillcrease of Rock Hill, Inez Purrington of Queens, N.Y., and Susie Baldwin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends at her mother's home at 241 Blanche Circle.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday.

James Miller

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Curtis Miller, of 1127 Constitution Blvd., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greater Foundation AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Leroy McCrea officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Miller was a son of the late Dill Miller and Isabel Witherspoon Miller. He was a member of Greater Foundation AME Zion Church and was a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Miller belonged to the Masonic Booker T. Washington Lodge, was a chair leader at the Church and belonged to hymn choir No. 1. He was a member of the AP&B Society. He attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are his wife, Lula Miller of Rock Hill; his son, Paul Lindsey of Rock Hill; three daughters, Claudette Marrison of Harrisburg, Penn., and Tawanda McKinney and Jannatta Richardson, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Sarah Miller of Winston-Salem, N.C., Arletha Robinson of Charlotte and Mary Patton of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Jeffrey Simpson Jr.

CLOVER - Jeffrey Wade Simpson Jr., 5, son of Jeffrey Simpson Sr. of Clover and Donna Dover of Blacksburg, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Kings Creek Church of God Cemetery in Blacksburg, with the Rev. Rayce Wolgemuth officiating.

Jeffrey was a kindergarten student at Kinard Elementary School in Clover.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Mary Ann Biggers and Crystal Biggers, both of Blacksburg; his paternal grandparents, Jerry Simpson and Elaine Simpson of Clover; and his maternal grandmother, Shirley Dover of Blacksburg.

The family will receive friends this afternoon at 4671 Forrestview Road, Blacksburg.

Johnny Burris

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Mr. Johnny Lee Burris, 46, of 811-B Mobile St., formerly of York County, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Dowell Baptist Church, with the Rev. George H. Lowry officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church cemetery in McConnells.

Born in McConnells, Mr. Burris was a son of Willie Burris and the late Sarah Elizabeth Fields Burris. He was a former forklift operator for Marsh Furniture Manufacturing in High Point, N.C. Mr. Burris was a member of Mount Dowell Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his father, are his son, Johnny Lafayette Hardin of Nashville, Tenn.; his daughter, Shemeca LaShawn Hardin of Rock Hill; six brothers, Willie James Burris, Melvin Eugene Burris and Fredrick Alexander Roseboro, all of York, Edward Charles Burris and Troy Steven Burris, both of High Point, and Alfred Thelmore Burris of Sharon; his sister, Carolyn Burris Parks of Atlanta; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Dowell Baptist Church and other times at the home of his father, 38 Pecan Circle, York.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home in York.

Ralph Catoe

KERSHAW - Mr. Ralph Richland Catoe, 72, of 1687 Ellis Road died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, with the Revs. Clarence Allen, Ed Taylor and Clay Shook officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Catoe was a son of the late Henry Thomas Catoe and Harriet Catoe. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where he taught the adult men's Sunday school class and served as deacon. He was also a member of Kershaw Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lee P. Catoe of the home; two brothers, Lee Catoe of Columbia and Jimmie N. Catoe of Kershaw; and his sister, Willie Kathryn Hildreth of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home's Kershaw chapel and other times at the home.
