William Cloud

CHARLOTTE - Mr. William Henry "Hambone" Cloud, Jr., 85, formerly of Fort Lawn, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Carolina's Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Ezell AME Zion Church in Fort Lawn with the Rev. W.N. Long officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Cloud was a son of the late William Henry Cloud Sr. and Dossie Anderson Cloud. He was educated in Chester County public schools and was a member of the Unity Ezell AME Zion Church and New Emmanuel Church in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Julia C. Williams Cloud of Fort Lawn; his son, William H. Cloud III of Charlotte; four daughters, Betty C. Belton and Pansy Reddick, both of Fort Lawn, Roma Cloud Winchester of Charlotte, and Regina Hughes of Rock Hill; his brother, Fred Cloud of Fort Lawn; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Unity Ezell AME Zion Church. The body may be viewed from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Kings Funeral Home, 4000 Batties Ford Road in Charlotte and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester.

The family is at the home of Leroy and Betty Belton, 5515 Williams St. in Fort Lawn.

Betty Evans

LANCASTER - Mrs. Betty Carnes Evans, 89, formerly of Lancaster, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Lila Doyle Nursing Care Facility in Seneca.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Needham Williamson officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Evans was a daughter of the late Judson Hastletine Carnes and Mary Frances Elliott Carnes. A homemaker, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was in the handbell choir. Mrs. Evans received the Life Member Award in Christian Services, was a former member of AuCourant, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lancaster Garden Club, where she was chairwoman in 1956. She was a American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer, a volunteer at Springs Memorial Hospital and was a substitute teacher in Lancaster County.

She was the widow of John Richard Evans Sr.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Beth E. King of Seneca; her son, John R. Evans Jr. of Lancaster; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Lydia Hozey

ROCK HILL - Ms. Lydia Kay Pelt Hozey, 53, of 641 Rabun Circle died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Barry Eller officiating.

Born in Albemarle, N.C., Ms. Hozey was a daughter of the late Arthur Perry Pelt and Jewel Mauldin Pelt. Ms. Hozey was a bookkeeper at Leitner Construction Co. and also worked at Colonial Marketing. She was a member of Ebenezer ARP Church.

Surviving are her son, Russ Hozey of Rock Hill; her daughter, Leesa Hozey Easley of Pensacola, Fla.; her brother, Ed Pelt of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Ruby McKinney

GRAY COURT - Mrs. Ruby Mae Moss McKinney, 85, of 44 Riddle Town Road died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Warrior Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Lee officiating. A graveside service will be 4:30 p.m. in the Lincolnton, Ga., city cemetery.

A native of Double Branches, Ga., Mrs. McKinney was the daughter of the late Walter Thomas and Ella Mae Deason Moss. She was a homemaker and a member of the Warrior Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. McKinney was the widow of the Rev. Raymond Andrew McKinney.

Surviving are her son, Tom McKinney of Rock Hill; two daughters, Gloria Hawkins of Gray Court and Betty Blanton of Nichols; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Kennedy Mortuary in Laurens and at other times at the home.

Becky Mitchell

SMYRNA-Mrs. Reba Neely "Becky" Mitchell, 73, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Canaan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Internment will be private.

A native of Kings Creek, Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of the late Moffatt James and Edna White Neely. She was the retired postmaster of the U.S. Postal Service in Hickory Grove.

Surviving are her husband, Luther Hood Mitchell; two daughters, Janice M. Bankhead and Teresa M. Hall, both of Smyrna; two sons, Ronald Hood Mitchell and George Edward "Eddie" Mitchell, both of Smyrna; four sisters, Betty Jo Cobb, Jennie Falls, Ruth Lawson, of Clover and Hazel Mosley, of Gaffney; two brothers, Campbell Neely, of Rock Hill and Knox Neely, of Grover, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Franklin "Bubba" Shaw

BONNEAU - Franklin J. "Bubba" Shaw, 69, of 610 Calestown Road died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be at the St. James United Methodist Cemetery in Jamestown.

A native of Bonneau, Mr. Shaw was the son of the late James L. Shaw and Eliza N. McMakin Shaw. A retired plant operator for W.R. Grace, Mr. Shaw was a member of the Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a deacon and had served on the advisory board. He attended Berkeley County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Cook Shaw; four sons, Jimmy Shaw and James Shaw of Richburg, Eugene Shaw of Georgetown and Terry Shaw of Jamestown; five sisters, Ethel Keller of Sumter, Naomi Reddin of Yuma, Ariz., Ila Mae Sayles of Nashotah, Wis., Lila Rapchick of James Island and Evelyn Slatz of Goose Creek; two brothers, Payden Shaw of Bonneau and Hartful Mims of North Charleston; and four grandchildren.

Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner, is in charge of arrangements.

Ceburn Shull

SHELBY, N.C. - Mr. Ceburn Cone Shull, 91, of 1232 S. Lafayette St. died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gervace C. Hitch officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.

A native of Lincoln County, N.C., Mr. Shull was a son of the late Ceburn Worth Shull and Minnie Beatrice Sain Shull.

Mr. Shull was the widower of Mary Louise Howell Shull.

Surviving are his son, Gordon Shull of Rock Hill; his daughter, Patsy Blanton of Icard, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby and at other times at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

J. Ervin Sistar

LANCASTER - The Rev. J. Ervin Sistar, 81, of 1621 Dobson St. died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Revs. Gilbert Rowell, Roy E. Beckham and Guy Smith officiating. Burial will be at Unity ARP Church cemetery.

Born in Union County, the Rev. Sistar was a son of the late George Washington Sistar and Mary Alice S. Sistar. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the 129th General Hospital as a medical technician. A graduate of Erskine College and Erskine Theological Seminary, he served churches in the Virginia Presbytery as well as Lancaster and the surrounding areas after his ordination by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

From 1963 to 1975, the Rev. Sistar was a carrier for The State newspaper and was an employee of the Heath Springs Mercantile Co. He was a member of the staff of Ervin Elementary School from 1975 until his retirement in 1981.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Mae James Sistar; his son, Timothy Sistar of the home; and two brothers, Parley Sistar of Lancaster and Richard Sistar of Marshville, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Linda Cameron

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Linda Faye Roof Cameron, 55, of 1074 Cherokee Ave. died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barron Funeral Chapel in Chester, with Dr. Bill Poore officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Cameron was a daughter of the late Joseph Roof and Roxie Dillinger Roof Williams. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her daughter, Juanita Corner of Kershaw; three brothers, Richard Roof and Michael Roof, both of Rock Hill, and Jerry Roof of Lancaster; her half-brother, Johnny Williams of Missouri; four grandchildren; and her great grandchild.

The family will receive from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester.

John Funderburk

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Luther Funderburk, 76, of 329 Annafrel St. died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Funderburk was a son of the late Worth Funderburk and Mattie Simmons Funderburk. He was a member of Free Eagle Ministries and was a painter.

Mr. Funderburk was the widower of Martha Nell McDonald Funderburk.

Surviving are his son, Danny Lee Funderburk of Rock Hill; his brother, Richard Funderburk of Lancaster; four sisters, Ruby Freeman and Ruth King, both of Rock Hill and Martha Stedman and Mattie Broome, both of Fort Mill; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his granddaughter, Cathy Romanski, at 1643 Rosedale St. in Rock Hill.

Elner Holliman

LANCASTER - Mrs. Elner Balkcum Holliman, 73, of 563 Sunset Circle died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Holliman officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lumberton, N.C., Mrs. Holliman was a daughter of the late King Solomon Balkcum Sr. and Lettie Bell Mason Balkcum. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are her husband, Clayton Franklin Holliman; four sons, Duane L. Dawley, Alan M. Dawley, David A Dawley and Fred Dawley, all of Lancaster; five stepsons, Frank Holliman, Jesse Holliman, Carlos Holliman and Paul Holliman, all of Rock Hill, and John Holliman of Charleston; her brother, King Solomon "Moon" Balkcum Jr. of Lancaster; two sisters, Rosa Gardner and Katie Blackmon, both of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home.

Alice Osborne

LANCASTER - Mrs. Alice Gallman Osborne, 77, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1999.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Floretta Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Newberry, Mrs. Osborne was a daughter of the late Ulysses S. Gallman Sr. and Lucille Beacham Gallman. She was a retired home economics teacher. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, deacon, trustee and on several other committees. She also was a member of Lancaster Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Surviving are her sister, Angeline G. Donalson of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church.

The McMullen Funeral Home is in charge.

Jeffery Powers

FORT LAWN - Mr. Jeffery Paul "Hoppy" Powers, 34, of 5632 Pleasant Ave. died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Fort Lawn Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ted Hodges officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., he was a son of Pauline Merritt Powers and the late Edward Cecil Powers Sr. He was a member of the Fort Lawn Baptist Church and worked for Parks Nash Engine Rebuilders in Monroe, N.C.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife Jennifer Moore Powers; his daughter, Jessica Powers of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Edward Cecil Powers Jr. and Carson Roy Powers, both of Lancaster; and two sisters, Frances Reid and Carolyn Goodman, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home in Lancaster.
