CHARLOTTE - Miss Miriam Anne Murphy, 73, of 1326 Heather Lane died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Marston, N.C., Miss Murphy was a graduate of Charlotte Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. She worked as a delivery room nurse at Charlotte Memorial until her retirement.

Surviving are her brother, Shannon W. Murphy Jr. of Clover; her niece; and her great nephew.

Mildred Pittman

KERSHAW - Mrs. Mildred Lorraine Knight Pittman of 3223 Constable Drive died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Springdell Village in Camden.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flat Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Elton Lane and Robert Jeske officiating. Burial will be at the Pittman Cemetery at New Haven Baptist Church.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Pittman was a daughter of the late John Knight and Mary Stroud Knight. She was the widow of Robert Clyde Pittman. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the Belk Department Store of Kershaw.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jane Horton of Kershaw and Glenda Owens of Charleston; her sister, Jincy Estridge of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Conrad and Mary Jane Horton, 3166 Constable Drive, Kershaw.

Euda Porter

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Euda Degraffenreid Porter, 45, of 843 Carolina Ave. died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rehoboth AME Zion Church, with the Rev. W.H. Woods Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Porter was the daughter of the late Suzanna Howze Degraffenreid. She was a member of Rehoboth AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the Lay Council and the hymn choir. She was a 1972 graduate of Lewisville High School. She was employed by Kim Wove Textile in Charlotte.

Surviving are two sons, John Ed Porter Jr. and Jermaine Porter, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Trina Elaine Degraffenreid of Rock Hill; seven brothers, MacArthur Degraffenreid of Chester, Wilbert Degraffenreid and Gene H. Degraffenreid, both of Edgemoor, Lawrence McFadden of Rock Hill, Nathaniel McFadden of Charlotte, and James Caldwell and Jimmy Caldwell, both of Chester; seven sisters, Johnnie Mae Bell and Maggie Caldwell, both of Chester, Janet Cook, Mary McCrorey, Betty Williams and Constine Perry, all of Rock Hill, and Louise White of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester, and at other times at the home of Betty Williams, 1034 Martin Ave., Rock Hill.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The body may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at King's Funeral Home.

Donald Roberts

ENOREE - Mr. Donald Harold Roberts, 57, of 360 Grace Chapel Road died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Revs. Karl Story, Herb Codington and Scott Brewington officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Spartanburg County, Mr. Roberts was a son of Louise Fowler Roberts of Laurens and the late Johnny Roberts. He was a retired auto salesman. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Kathy B. Roberts; three brothers, Jimmy Roberts and Ernie Roberts, both of Spartanburg, and Allen Roberts of Laurens; and two sisters, Linda R. Wells and Mary Ann Roberts, both of Laurens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Woodruff and at other times at 2192 Duncan Creek Church Road, Laurens.

Carolyn Stroud

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Mrs. Carolyn Creed Stroud, 61, of 107 Crestbrook Circle died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 6:30 tonight at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Carroll Page and the Rev. Elwood Orr officiating. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chester Memorial Gardens in Chester.

A native of Aiken County, Mrs. Stroud was a daughter of the late Wilson Creed and Edith Cook Creed. She was a teacher's assistant with Shelby City Schools. She was a member of the Bread Roses Extension Homemakers Club, Boiling Springs Baptist Church and the sanctuary choir.

Surviving are her husband, the Rev. William A. Stroud; her son, Allen Stroud of Mooresville, N.C.; her daughter, Lori Garner of Anderson; four sisters, Marjorie Hobbs and Libby Baker, both of Belvedere, Mary Helen Adams of Clearwater and Kathy Leopard of North Augusta; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 917, Boiling Springs, NC 28017 or Cliffside Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 336, Cliffside, NC 28024.

William Walter

INDIAN LAND - Mr. William John Walter, 82, of 9937 Valley Road died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randall Odom officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rutherford, N.J., Mr. Walter was a son of the late John Henry Walter and Mary Viola Merriam Walter. He was retired from Kraft Foods and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Surviving are three sons, Peter Walter of Indian Land, Paul John Walter of California and David William Walter of Toms River, N.J.; her niece; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Leroy Springs Recreational Complex, Senior Citizens Programs, 901 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Edgar Williams Jr.

INDIAN LAND - Mr. Edgar Scott Williams Jr., 74, of 7382 Charlotte Highway died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Providence Baptist Church in Waxhaw, N.C. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill.

A native of Pageland, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Edgar Scott Williams Sr. and Angie Ann Mills Williams. Mr. Williams was retired from Celanese and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Parker Williams; three sons, Edgar Scott Williams III of Lancaster, Jesse A. Williams of Fort Mill and Carl Timothy Williams of the home; his daughter, Beverly Williams Hood of Lancaster; his stepson, Sam Parker of York; four sisters, Mary Helms of Monroe, N.C., Bonnie Allen of Columbia, Amelia Street of Baltimore and Shirley Watts of Stanley; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartley Funeral Home.

Issac Barber

LANCASTER - Mr. Issac Barber, 81, of Lancaster died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Gold AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Deborah Waddell officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Barber was a son of the late Webb Barber and Lizzie Weather Barber. He was a retired nurseryman at Valhalla Farms Nursery in Waxhaw, N.C. He was a member of Gold Hill AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his wife, Rosie Mae Barber; five sons, Issac Barber Jr., David Barber, Elliott Barber, Robert Barber, all of Lancaster and Willie James Barber of Fort Mill; two daughters, Pearlie Heath of Cheraw and Idell Potts of Charlotte; his brother, Fred Barber of Charlotte; two sisters, Willie Airy of Charlotte and Sweet Valley Morrow of Lancaster; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service.

Laura Basham

OCALA, Fla. - Mrs. Laura F. Basham, 79, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at the home of her daughter.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Carol R. Cannon officiating.

Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl McKnight of Ocala; two sisters, Grace Bush of Norfolk, Va., and Catherine Eyler of Leechburg, Pa.; her brother, Lee Frank of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Ann B. Young of Rock Hill.

Heyward Bowers

LANCASTER - Mr. Heyward Lewis Bowers, 76, of 1770 Lynnwood Drive died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Adams officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Bowers was a son of the late Lewis Henry Bowers and Annie Peach Bowers. He was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his brother, Ernest Bowers of Lancaster; and five sisters, Sue Lee Cobb of Kershaw, Willie Davis of Litchfield and Alzora Starnes, Erlene Bailey and Inez English, all of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Inez English, 1631 McManus Lane, Lancaster.

Ella Garris

LANCASTER - Miss Ella Jane Garris, 96, of Second Street died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral was Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Cooley officiating. Burial was at West Side Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Miss Garris was a daughter of the late David Garris and Nannie Beckham Garris. She was a member of Grace United Methodist and retired from Springs Industries, where she had worked for 52 years.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perry "Pete" Garris, 1582 Cedar Dale Lane, Lancaster.

Steve Hooks

FORT MILL - Mr. Stephen Michael Hooks, 53, of 213 Drane Circle died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Glenrock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Hooks was a son of Eva Rogers Hooks of Fort Mill and the late John H. Hooks. He was a self-employed painter. He was an S.A.L. member of American Legion Post 43 and a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Steven M. Hooks Jr. of Monroe, N.C.; his daughter, Susan Renee Hoods of Waxhaw, N.C.; three sisters, Nadine Carter of Rock Hill, Mary Hooks of Fort Mill and Jean Hooks of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Eva Hooks, 213 Drane Circle.

Jerry Huffstickler

LANCASTER - Mr. Jerry Huffstickler, 56, of 2661 Cane Mill Road died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with Donnie Tillman and Curtis Cameron officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Huffstick-ler was a son of the late David Huffstick-ler and Inez Alley Huffstickler. He was a retired employee of Joslyn Clark Control. He was Past Master of Hart Lodge No. 380 and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Powers Huffstickler; his son, Jerry D. "Donnie" Huffstickler of Lancaster; three brothers, Billy Huffstickler of Richburg, James Huffstickler of Columbia and Floyd Huffstickler of Lancaster; and two sisters, Ruby Pate and Betty Small, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Amelia Lucas

BENNETTSVILLE - Mrs. Amelia Fagen Lucas, 99, of 204 Marshall St. died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Marlboro County General Hospital.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Historical Sawmill Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Anderson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lucas was a daughter of the late Thomas Fagen and Jane Fagen. She was the widow of Julius Lucas. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. She was a member of the Historical Sawmill Baptist Church, where she served as president of Missionary Circle No. 1, a member of the Trustee Board, president of the Trustees and Wives organization, past president of the Senior Choir and youth advisor emeritus. She was a member of the Friendship Savings Club and the Fellowship Savings Club.

Surviving are three sons, Henry T. Lucas of Bennettsville and Julius C. Lucas and Harold Lucas, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Ruth L. Johnson of York and Orgie E. Dudley and Hattie L. Foster, both of Bennettsville; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Morris Funeral Home.
