Gladys Harrelson

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Gladys Smith Harrelson, 84, of Skylyn Place died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Southside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Drs. Allen McWhite and Keith Bradsher and the Rev. Dale Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Pauline.

A native of Spartanburg County, Mrs. Harrelson was the daughter of the late Edwin O. Smith and Eddie Wofford Smith. She was retired from M. Lowenstein Corp. and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where she worked in the 6-year-old Sunday school department for 26 years and was a member of the Happy Heart Club and the Friendship class. She was the widow of Leland L. Harrelson.

Surviving are her son, Hugh Leland Harrelson Sr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Barbara Harrelson Cole of Moore; her brother, Edd Smith of Spartanburg; her sister, Lila Smith Caldwell of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her great-great grandson.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Sunday at Southside Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Department of Southside Baptist Church, 316 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306.

Betty Keith

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Betty Ruth Brooks Keith, 73, or 1531 Greenwood Lane died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Greene Funeral Home, with Pastor Merv Horst officiating.

A native of Vernon, Texas, Mrs. Keith was a daughter of the late Bentley and Helene Cogley Brooks. She was a retired home economics teacher with the Odessa, Texas, school system, with 28 years of service. She attended Texas Weslyan and graduated from North Texas State in Denton. She received a master's degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. She was a member of Faith Assembly of God.

Surviving are her husband, Lewis W. Keith of the home; and her daughter, Kathy Keith of the home.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Joseph D. Marinelli

TEGA CAY - Mr. Joseph Domenic Marinelli, 74, of 4053 Point Clear Drive died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at home.

A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. John Giuliani officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens in Chester.

A native of Lawrence, Mass., Mr. Marinelli was a son of the late Joseph Marinelli and Margaret B. Marinelli. His first wife was the late Juanita Marinelli. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Prior to moving to Tega Cay, he lived in Chester. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Wilson Marinelli; two sons, Kenneth Marinelli of Anderson and Joe Marinelli of Baltimore; three daughters, Allison Robinson of Allen, Texas, Melissa Compton of Mooresville, N.C., and Kimberly Williamson of Fort Mill; two brothers, Alexander D. Marinelli of Short Beach, Conn., and Donald A. Marinelli of North Andover, Mass.; his sister, Lillian M. Nardone of North Andover, Mass.; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other at times at the home.

David Moffatt McConnell

CHARLOTTE - David Moffatt McConnell, a Chester native who served as an U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in the late 1960s, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Cypress Retirement Home. He was 87.

A graveside service will be noon today at Old Purity Cemetery in Great Falls. A memorial service at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte will be held at a later date.

A native of Chester, Mr. McConnell was a son of the late Harvey E. McConnell and Elizabeth Simpson McConnell. He was an attorney and general counsel for Belk Store Services in Charlotte.

Mr. McConnell served as an U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in 1968-1969 and was special adviser to U.N. Economic and Social Council. He was also a member of U.S. Delegation Federal Republic Germany Marshall Plan in 1967. He also served as a member of the board of directors of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

He earned his bachelor of science degree from Davidson College, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1933. He attended Harvard Graduate Business School and Harvard Law School, where he earned his juris doctorate degree. He received his LL.M. and LLD from Georgetown University.

Mr. McConnell served as a colonel in the Army and was decorated with a Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster; Order Cloud with banner (Republic China).

He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Ona McConnell; two sons, Joseph McConnell of Kronberg, Germany, and David M. McConnell Jr. of Warren, Pa.; his daughter, Lynn McConnell of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.

Elsie Sistar

LANCASTER - Mrs. Elsie Mae James Sistar, 84, of 1621 Dobson St. died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gilbert Rowell and the Rev. Drs. Roy Beckham and Guy Smith officiating. Burial will be at Unity ARP Church Cemetery.

A native of Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Sistar was a daughter of the late Leroy Guthrie James and Carrie Ellen Mooneyham James. She was the widow of the Rev. J. Ervin Sistar. A homemaker, Mrs. Sistar was a member of First ARP Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and Nannie Millen Circle. Mrs. Sistar was educated in Amarillo and Denver, Colo., where her family moved in 1927.

Surviving are her son, Timothy Sistar of the home; and four sisters, Mable James and Edith Briggs, both of Denver, Betty Barta of Dallas, Ore., and Frances Blakely of Sand Point, Idaho.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Frank Smith

CLOVER - Mr. Frank Monroe Smith, 86, of 110 Woodland Drive died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Clover ARP Church, with the Revs. Rob Patrick and William Kine Coble officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mr. Smith was a son of the late Robert Frank Smith and Bessie Hipp Smith. He was a member of the Clover ARP Church, where he was a deacon and an elder and taught Sunday school. He was a retired salesman from Gastonia Mill Supply Co.

Mr. Smith was the widower of Martha Rebecca "Pat" Smith.

Surviving are his son, Frank Pursley Smith of Charleston; his daughter, Nancy Smith Davis of Clover; his sister, Virginia Smith Brown of Gastonia, N.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the funeral at Clover ARP Church.

Edward Graydon

ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Graydon, of 187-19 120th Ave., St. Albans, N.Y. died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in Jamaica, N.Y.

Surviving are his wife, Geneva Graydon of St. Albans; four sons, Freddy Graydon, Robert Graydon and Charles Graydon, all of Florida, and Larry Graydon of St. Albans; his daughter, Linda Josuc of Florida; four brothers, Hudson Holmes of Asburn, Ga., Bobby Lee Graydon of Ft. Pierce, Fla., James Graydon of Hempstead, N.Y.; and Horace Graydon of Long Beach, N.Y.; and three sisters, Virginia Williams and Irene Mosby, both of Syracuse, N.Y, and Everlena Nesby of Walterboro, S.C.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wed., Dec. 29, at Robinson Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

The family also will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Betty Dunham at 1521 Crawford Road in Rock Hill.

Frondia Wolfe

LANCASTER - Miss Frondia Dianne Wolfe, 47, of 2347 Charlotte Highway died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Taylor's Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. N. J. Neely and Dr. John Platt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Miss Wolfe was the daughter of Julie Wolfe and the late Rev. Andrew Wolfe. She was a member of Taylor's Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two brothers, Julian Wolfe of Kershaw and Larry Wolfe of Lancaster; two sisters, Esther Horton of Kershaw and Deborah Shirley of Florence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Hartley Funeral, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Charles Campbell

CHESTER - Mr. Charles M. "Charlie" Campbell, 81, of 113 Henry St. died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Old Saint David's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Cheraw, with the Rev. Dow Sanderson officiating.

A native of Florence, Mr. Campbell was a son of the late A.M. "Buck" Campbell and the late Cecil Campbell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Orangeburg and was a graduate of Florence High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Campbell retired from the Upjohn Company in pharmaceutical sales. He was the widower of Caroline "Callie" Campbell.

Surviving are his son, Charles "Chas" Campbell Jr. of Garden City; his daughter, Anne Campbell of Chester; his brother, Joe Campbell of Jacksonville, Fla.; and his sister, Jean Ligon of Columbia.

Julian Ford

LEXINGTON - Mr. Julian Long Ford, 80, of 454 Heartwood Drive died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at West End Cemetery in St. Matthews, with the Rev. Frank Cantrell presiding. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Ford was the son of the late Barber Ferguson Ford and the late Margaret Glass Ford. He was retired from Duke Power Co. with 42 years of service. He was a member of Mount Dearborn Methodist Church in Great Falls.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne Ford of St. Matthews and Ronald Parler of Little Mountain; his daughter, Camille Walling of Lexington; his sister, Dorothy Mazoillo of Maryland; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home at 161 Elliot St. in Orangeburg or receive phone calls at the residence of Julian Wayne Ford.

Earl Ghent Jr.

GREAT FALLS -Mr. Earl Heath "Slick" Ghent Jr., 73, of 52 Pine St. died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Greenlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Bradley presiding.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Ghent was a son of the late Earl H. Ghent, Sr. and the late Annie Bell (Pittman) Ghent. He attended school in Lancaster County and was a former employee of J.P. Stevens Co. He is the widower of Lucille Peake Ghent.

Surviving are his brother, Clyde Ghent, of Great Falls; and his sister, Linda Spinale of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Dree' Asia Grier

CHESTER -Dree' Asia Nikyra Grier, four months, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

Family will receive friends at the home of her grandmother, Gloria Grier, at 2633 Dawson Drive in Chester.

Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester is in charge.

Gregory B. Hefley

WASHINGTON, D.C. -Mr. Gregory B. Hefley, 38, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999.

The funeral was held Dec. 21 at Robert O. Freeman Funeral Home.

Burial followed at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, Va.

A native of York County, he was the son of Leroy Hefley and Bennie Mae Hefley. He graduated from Emmett Scott High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the Real Life Full Gospel Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his daughter, Princess Hefley of Washington; his stepbrother Leroy Hefley, Jr. of Washington; and his stepsister, Ieshia Hefley of Washington.

King's Funeral Home of 135 Cemetery St. is in charge.
