Minnie Lyles

COLUMBIA ­ Miss Minnie Rochelle Lyles, 79, formerly of Kershaw, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Fewell Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Flint Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Neal officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Miss Lyles was a daughter of the late Milus C. Lyles and Mary Bowers Lyles.

Surviving are her sister, Iva Hance of Darlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Plyler

ROCK HILL -"Mrs. Mary McManus Plyler, 86, of 1264 Glasscock Road died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Neely's Creek ARP Church, with the Revs. Bill Fleming, Jeff Fox and Gene Plyler officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

A native of Pageland, Mrs. Plyler was a daughter of the late Uriah A. McManus and Exie Anis Williams McManus. She was the oldest member of Providence Baptist Church. where she played the piano. She worked for Star Paper Tube Company for nine years.

Surviving are seven sons, George Amon Plyler of Bishopville, Ray Plyler and J. Charles Plyler, both of Rock Hill, John Wayne Plyler of Franklin, Va., Larry M. Plyler and Thomas M. Plyler, both of McConnells and Gene Plyler of Charleston; six daughters, Carolyn P. Price of Rock Hill, June Marler of Travelers Rest, Ethel McIntosh of Newton, N.C., Sue P. Gibson of Chester, Janice P. Cox of Myrtle Beach and Deborah P. Smith of Charlotte; and 35 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, 1917 Old Friendship Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Dora Price

LANCASTER - Mrs. Dora Elizabeth Ellis Price, 91, of J.B. Denton Road died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Drs. James D. Spencer III and Ray Jones assisting. Burial will be at West Side Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Price was a daughter of the late John Bunyan Ellis and Sarah Jane Kennington Ellis. She was the widow of Towne Edward Price. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she taught the Adult Ladies Sunday school class for 45 years. In 1990, she was honored as Mother of the Year.

Surviving are her son, Ted Price Sr. of Columbia; two daughters, Linda Stacks of Lancaster and Miriam Jones of Suffolk, Va.; her brother, Lewis C. Ellis of Columbia; her sister, Bernice E. Lilley of Bradenton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Robert and Linda Stacks, 2228 J.B. Denton Road, Lancaster.

William Shelly Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. William Thomas Shelly Jr., 61, of 477 W. Rebound Road died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Morrison officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Batavia, N.Y., Mr. Shelly was a son of the late William Thomas Shelly Sr. and Evelyn Britton Shelly. He was retired from Martin Marietta Aggregates in Charlotte. He was a Navy veteran and was a member of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Futter Shelly; his son, Matthew William Shelly Sr. of Lancaster; his daughter, Kelly Hammond of Lancaster; her sister, Connie Shelly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Gould Tinsley

ROCK HILL -"Mr. Gould Emmit Tinsley, 80, of 2255 Crosstrail Ridge died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Greene Funeral Home chapel, with Dr. Tom Patterson and the Rev. Paul Noe officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Brevard, N.C., Mr. Tinsley was a son of the late William O. Tinsley and Lora Galloway Tinsley. He was a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 385. He worked in the power plant at Celanese and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Estelle Johnson Tinsley; his son, Jerry Michael Tinsley of Timmonsville; his daughter, Janice Tinsley Marshall of Hartsville; three brothers, Bruce Tinsley of Rock Hill, Donald R. Tinsley of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Melvin E. Tinsley of Brevard, N.C.; three sisters, Edrie Taylor of Brevard,, Idel McCall of Frostproof, Fla., and Dorothy Goodwill of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Esteliene Turbeville

NICHOLS - Mrs. Esteliene Turbeville, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Barber officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery.

A native of Horry County, Mrs. Turbeville was a daughter of the late Tone Hill and Janice McDaniels Hill. She was the widow of Jack J. Turbeville.

Surviving are her son, Billy Turbeville of Columbus, Ind.; her daughter, Sandra Strickland of Nichols; two brothers, Bruce Hill of Goose Creek and Mutt McDaniels of Green Sea; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Inman Funeral Home is in charge.

Joseph Aiken

LANCASTER - Mr. Joseph Lindsay Aiken, 85, of 421 W. Springs St., died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First ARP Church, with the Revs. Gilbert Rowell and Dr. Roy Beckham and Ernest Stroud officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Aiken was a son of the late William Alexander Aiken and Mary McGarty Aiken. He was a retired U.S. Postal employee. He was a member of First ARP Church, Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disable American Veterans and the American Legion. Mr. Aiken was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Jackson as commander until 1941 and assisted in closing the camps at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Starnes Aiken; two daughters, Sandra Jo Aiken of Denver, N.C., and Mary Jane Aiken of Knoxville, Tenn.; his sister, Isla Aiken Boyd of Chester; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First ARP Church, 701 N. Main St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

James Crosby

CHESTER - Mr. James T. "Bill" Crosby, 82, of 586 Thomas E. Davis Lane, formerly of Charlotte, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Leeds community, with the Rev. Frank Moore officiating and the Rev. J.K. Stringfellow assisting. The Rev. Cliff Dye will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Crosby was a son of the late Ervin Crosby and Ora Alexander Crosby. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, choir leader, superintendent of Sunday school and served on the Usher Board. He retired from Pet Milk Co. in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Mae Bell Davis Crosby; six daughters, Lillie Mae Clinkscales, Helen Grier and Virginia Flowe, all of Charlotte, Laverne Halsey of Carlisle, Martha B. McCullough of Rock Hill and Alconnie Simpson of Chester; two sisters, Katie B. Bowser of Chester and Amma Hatsi of Silver Springs, Md.; his brother, Earl Crosby of Chester; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Lucas Daniels Sr.

CLOVER - Mr. Lucas Daniels Sr., 78, of 103 Wright Terrace died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Bowling Green, with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Goode officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Ridgeville, Mr. Daniels was a son of the late Peter Daniels and Charlotte Foster Daniels. Mr. Daniels was a former bailer for Bowling Green Spinning Co. for 18 years. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Daniels; three sons, Lucas Daniels Jr. of Groton, Conn., and Michael Daniels and Christopher Daniels, both of the home; three daughters, the Rev. Audrey Evans and Michelle Daniels, both of Clover and Gwendolyn Brown of Charlotte; his sister, Harriett Whetstone of Orangeburg; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Floyd Dixon Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Floyd Dixon Jr., 51, of 339 Sidney St. died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charlie J. Mason officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Dixon was a son of the late Floyd Dixon and Elizabeth Dixon. He was educated in York County public schools and was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Surviving are his uncle, Lyle Dixon of Rock Hill; and three aunts, Margaret Dixon and Helen Dixon, both of Rock Hill, and Alberta Dixon of Huntersville, N.C.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 7 tonight at Parker Funeral Home.

Pluma Gray

FLORENCE - Mrs. Pluma K. Gray, 89, of 466 Apt. A Third Loop Road, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital Systems in Florence.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating.

A native of Gaston, Ala., Mrs. Gray was a daughter of the late William Douglas Knight and Martha Howell Knight. She was the widow of Howard Gray. She was retired from West Point Pepperell in Langdale, Ala., after 22 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her son, Dr. George R. Gray of Mechanicsville, Va.; two daughters, Evelyn Johnson of Niceville, Fla. and Jenette Herring of Florence; three brothers, Huey Knight of Centre, Ala., Harold Knight and Earl Knight, both of Attalla, Ala.; four sisters, Dorothy Miller, Betty Jo Thompson, Faye Hollingsworth and Katherine Copeland, all of Gaston; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

C. Dixon Harp Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. C. Dixon Harp, Jr, 54, of 217 Charlotte Ave. died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in Lancaster County.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Verdery officiating.

A native of Columbus, Ga., Mr. Harp was a son of Burton Massey Harp of Rock Hill and the late C. Dixon Harp, Sr. He was a member of the Bows Hunter Club and was an avid deer hunter. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was employed by Diamonds, Inc.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Michele Wright and Katie Harp, both of Greenville; his brother, Frank Harp of Rock Hill; and his sister, Lee H. Odom of Greensboro, N.C.; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 234 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC.

Jerry Harper

YORK - Mr. Jerry Marshall Harper, 50, of 500 Turkey Creek Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Harper was a son of the late Edward Harper and Vergie Harper. He was a retired heating and air conditioning mechanic and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Andy Harper of York and Tommy Harper of Rock Hill; and five sisters, Louise Moss of Clover; Dorothy Adkins of Rock Hill; Libby Lindley of Greenwood; Cathy Cole of Charlotte; and Peggy Wells of York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Louise Moss, 1198 Cedar Grove Road, Clover.
