Hays Latham

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Monroe Hays Latham, 84, of 4186 Old York Road died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with Dr. W. Timothy McClendon and the Rev. Carol Cannon officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Sharon, Mr. Latham was a son of the late Samuel Jackson Latham and Orrie Shillinglaw Latham. He was retired from Marshall Oil Company and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Mr. Latham was the widower of Helen Mitchell Latham.

Surviving are his daughter, Faye Latham Smith of Rock Hill; his sister Alda Latham Rabon of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel, and at other times at the home of his daughter, Faye Smith, at 821 Gist Road.

Ila E. Meetze

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Ila Elizabeth Meetze, 79, of 351 Barr Road died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Carl Yost officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lexington, Mrs. Meetze was a daughter of the late Augustus and Clara Conner Wingard. She was a housewife and was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, F. Raymond Meetze; two daughters, Ann Wood of York and Margie Bundrick of Lexington; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the funeral.

Major Roddy

CHESTER - Mr. Major Wilson Roddy, 82, of 32 E. White St. died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Park.

A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Mr. Roddy was a son of the late James Thomas Roddy and Mamie Hallman Roddy. He was retired from Springs Industries in Chester and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 16 and of the Nazarene faith.

Surviving are his wife, Willie Mae S. Roddy; his sister, Pauline Grant of Chester; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Ralph Threatt

LANCASTER - Mr. Ralph Leslie Threatt, 75, of 2638 Knotty Pine Drive died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Lancaster County Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Dr. Harold Owens officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native Lancaster County, Mr. Threatt was a son of the late Clifford Threatt and Henrietta Threatt. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired from Springs Industries-Leroy plant and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are his wife, Cornelia Threatt; his son, Erwin Threatt of Columbia; his daughter, Melanie Wallace of Lancaster; his brother, Clifford Threatt Jr. of Kershaw; three sisters, Carolyn Gatwood of Cary, N.C., Annie Goodwin of Will Point, Texas, and Lily Grey Parker of Colleyville, Texas; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends form 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Home.

Emma Walker

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Emma Simpson Walker, 86, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Catawba, with the Rev. Ray Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A daughter of the late Joe Simpson and Annie Simpson, she was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church. She was the widow of Roosevelt Walker.

Surviving are two sons, Nathaniel Walker of Charlotte and Theodore Walker, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Rose Walker of Augusta, Ga., and Joe Ann Walker-Cathcart of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

Clemons Funeral Home is in charge.

James Adams

ROCK HILL - Mr. James W. "Kudda" Adams, 48, of 1021 Henderson St. died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Archie Stover officiating and the Rev. Billy Wilson assisting. Burial will be at the Crossroads Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Adams was a son of the late William Biggest and Fannie Elizabeth Adams. He attended York County public schools.

Surviving are his son, Antonio Mitchell of Rock Hill; his daughter, Bella Rene Mitchell of Rock Hill; three brothers, Clayton Adams, Barry Adams and Gary Adams, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Elizabeth Ann Adams of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Wednesday.

The family will receive friends at 623 Chestnut St. and at 747 S. Spruce St.

Cecile Sumner

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Cecile Jeanette Brannon Sumner, 87, of 506 Dearborn St. died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Chester County Hospital in Chester.

A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Clarance Fouse officiating.

A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Sumner was a daughter of the late Vennor Wells Brannon and Carrie Jane Peay Brannon. She was retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of the Great Falls Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her son, Douglas W. Sumner of Great Falls; her daughter, Roger Lynn Sumner of Great Falls; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Great Falls Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 466, Great Falls, SC 29055.

Louise Stacks

LANCASTER -"Mrs. Louise Neal Stacks, 60, of 566 Old Camden-Monroe Highway died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Oak Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thurman Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Stacks was a daughter of the late James Archie and Amy Louise Watts Neal. She was retired from Manetta Mills and was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Stacks was the widow of Grady Stacks.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Franklin Stacks and Grady Lynn Stacks, both of Lancaster; her sister, Julie Ellis of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jerry Stacks at 612 Old Camden-Monroe Highway.

Jack Vess

CHESTER -"Mr. Jack Wallace Vess of 110 Abell St. died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Purity Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Marc Mason officiating. Burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Greenville, Mr. Vess was a son of the late Virgil E. Vess and Jewell Flynn Vess. He was retired from Springs Industries and worked as a paramedic for Chester County. He was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church and Chester Masonic Lodge No. 18.

Surviving are his wife, Sally W. Vess; two daughters, Lisa V. Mobley and Karen V. Graham, both of Chester; two brothers, V.E. "Buddy" Vess and Albert Vess, both of Chester; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the home of Lisa Mobley, at 1162 Deer Run Road in Chester.

Dorothy Wallace

LANCASTER -"Mrs. Dorothy Baker Wallace, 69, of 337 City Ave. died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church, with Dr. James D. Spencer officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Wallace was a daughter of the late James Monroe and Leila Jane Adams Baker. She was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wallace was the widow of Rommie V. Wallace.

Surviving are three daughters, Judy Diane Wallace and Dorothy "Dottie" Roddey, both of Lancaster, and Vicke Powell of Myrtle Beach; her brother, Vernon Ray Baker of Gastonia, N.C.; two sisters, Barbara Baker of Hickory, N.C., and Faye Broome of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

James Adams

Crystal Ayers

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Crystal Eddington Ayers, 22, of 1596 Elderwood Road died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Jesse Sims, Thomas Little and Dennis L. Ayers officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Ayers was a daughter of Howard Eddington and Lynn Eddington of Rock Hill. She managed Marketing Facts and Pull at Sam's Club in Charlotte and was a member of Grace Covenant Church of God in York. A 1995 graduate of Northwestern High School, Mrs. Ayers was a trainer with the Northwestern Trojans athletic teams.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Lee Ayers; her brother, Joseph Eddington of Rock Hill; her sister, Amy Eddington of Rock Hill; her maternal grandfather, Jack Shields of Fort Mill; her maternal grandmother, Grace Self of Rock Hill; and her paternal grandmother, Grace Eddington of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home of her parents, 3281 Enola Road, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Grace Covenant Church of God, building fund, 2201 Chester Hwy., York, SC 29745.

Frances Bolder

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances Agurs Bolder of 472 Summit St. died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. James Scott Jr. officiating and the Revs. Charles Smith, Ralph Cunningham, G.G. Johnson and Arthur Randolph Jr. assisting.

A native of Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie M. Agurs and Arthur Roseboro. A 1960 graduate of Emmett Scott High School, she attended Friendship Junior College, Barber Scotia College in Concord, N.C., and Benedict College in Columbia. She was a floral designer and worked for Kimbrell's Flowerland and Parrish Flowerland. She also worked at The Herald and Burger King. She was a member of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, where she was president of the usher board, wasa class leader and trustee, was a lifelong member of the Missionary, was a member of the gospel chorus, was a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Willing Workers.

She was the widow of Eddie Bolder.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur Antoine Bolder and Edwin Maurice Bolder, both of the home; and her sister, Janie Mae Agurs of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday and at other times at the home of Janie M. Agurs, 1088 Carolina Ave. Extension, and at the home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
