Willie Barber Sr.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Willie Barber Sr. of 2627 Georgetown Road died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Moriah AME Zion Church in Richburg, with the Rev. Grady Sharpe officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Richburg, Mr. Barber was a son of the late Joe Barber and Carolina Chambers Barber. He was the widower of Hattie White Barber.

Mr. Barber was a member of Mount Moriah AME Zion Church, where he was a member of the board of trustees, steward board, budget committee and Class Leader No. 1. He was a member of the Great Falls Chapter of the NAACP. He was retired from the South Carolina Highway Department after 39 years of service.

Surviving are three daughters, Janie Cunningham and Louise Barber, both of Great Falls, and Francena Barber of the home; two sons, Willie Barber Jr. and Leroy Barber, both of Great Falls; his granddaughter, who he raised, Gloria Barber of the home; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Nancy Boatwright

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Lynn Boatwright, 75, of 2970 Dogwood Circle died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Boatwright was a daughter of the late Joseph R. Lynn and Ella Jordan Lynn. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Cecil Boatwright; two daughters, Cecilia Strickland of Rock Hill and Jeannie Adams of York; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Cecilia Strickland, 12148 Quiet Acres Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1232 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Frances Bolder

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances Agurs Bolder of 472 Summit St. died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. James Scott Jr. officiating and the Revs. Charles Smith, Ralph Cunningham, G.G. Johnson and Arthur Ran-dolph Jr. assisting.

A native of Baltimore, Mrs. Bolder was a daughter of the late Johnnie M. Agurs and Arthur Roseboro. A 1960 graduate of Emmett Scott High School, she attended Friendship Junior College, Barber Scotia College in Concord, N.C., and Benedict College in Columbia. She was a floral designer and worked for Kimbrell's Flowerland and Parrish Flowerland. She also worked at The Herald and Burger King. She was a member of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, where she was president of the usher board, was a class leader and trustee, was a lifelong member of the Missionary, was a member of the gospel chorus, was a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Willing Workers.

She was the widow of Eddie Bolder.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur Antoine Bolder and Edwin Maurice Bolder, both of the home; and her sister, Janie Mae Agurs of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the church, and at other times at the home of Janie M. Agurs, 1088 Carolina Ave. Extension and at the home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Marvin Chappell Sr.

SHARON - Mr. Marvin Smith "Booney" Chappell Sr., 63, of Sharon died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill after a brief illness.

The funeral was Sunday at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, Sharon, with the Revs. Clyde Mitchum and James McGill officiating. Burial will be at the Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Chappell, brother of York County Council member Curwood Chappell, was a son of John Henry Chappell and Eve Porter Chappell.

Before retiring a year ago, Mr. Chappell spent more than 42 years delivering mail in the Ogden area near Smith's Turnout, where the family has farmed for many years. Mr. Chappell was named South Carolina's Rural Mail Carrier of the Year two years ago and was recognized that year by the National Carriers Association.

Chappell, a farmer, graduated from Lewisville High School. He was a member of Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Dowdle Chappell; two sons, Marvin Smith Chappell Jr. of Gastonia, N.C., and Mica Chappell of Rock Hill; six brothers, Phil E. Chappell and Rudolph Chappell, both of Chester, Melton Chappell of Vista, Calif., and Curwood Chappell, Warren "Pete" Chappell and John Henry "Jack" Chappell II, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Joyce Chappell Abbott of Darlington; and three grandchildren.

Bratton Funeral Home was in charge.

Thomas Gilmore

FORT MILL -"Mr. Thomas Floyd "Buster" Gilmore, 35, of 500-A Steele St. died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Salisbury, N.C.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carlwell Culp officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cem-etery.

Surviving are his parents, Catherine Gilmore and William G. Gilmore Sr. of Fort Mill; two brothers, William Gilmore Jr. of Fort Mill and Henry Gilmore of Vanceboro, N.C.; and three sisters, Debra G. Mayes of Rock Hill and Shirley McAfee and Rosie Wiggins, both of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

Parker Funeral Home in Rock Hill is in charge.

John Gregson

LAKE WYLIE - Mr. John Terry Gregson, 57, of 5 Heritage Court died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. Ed McDevitt officiating.

A native of Liverpool, England, Mr. Gregson was a son of Julia Tansey Gregson of Liverpool and the late Luke Gregson. He was in international trade.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Rina Gregson; his daughter, Claire Gregson of Charlotte; his son, Lee Gregson of Charlotte; and his brother, Dominic Gregson of Hereford, England.

The family will receive friends at the home after the funeral.

Felicia Hampton

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -"Miss Felicia V. Hampton, 24, of 954 Greene Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Woodard Hospital.

The funeral was Tuesday at Bethany Baptist Church. Interment will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cem-etery in Chester, with the Rev. Dr. W.B. Boulware officiating and the Rev. William A. Chisholm assisting.

A native of of Brooklyn, Miss Hampton was the daughter of Doretha Bagley Hampton and the late Theodore Hampton Sr. She was a 1993 graduate of United High School in Brooklyn. She was employed by United Parcel Post, and she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she was a member of the usher board.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her son, Rayvouge Hampton of the home; her daughter, Kierra Hampton of the home; her sister, Exzerra Hampton of the home; and her maternal grandmother, Sara L. Bagley of Chester.

The family will receive friends at 1109 McNich St.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. at Gore's Funeral Home in Chester.

Theodore Hampton

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -"Theodore M. Hampton, 4, of 954 Greene Ave. died Dec. 22, 1999.

The funeral was Tuesday, at Bethany Baptist Church. Interment will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester with the Rev. Dr. W.B. Boulware officiating and the Rev. William A. Chisholm assisting.

Theodore was the son of Exzerra Hampton of the home. He attended Little Son's Peoples Nursery School.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his grandmother, Doretha B. Hampton of the home; and his maternal great-grandmother, Sara L. Bagley of Chester.

The family will receive friends at 1109 McNich St.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Gore's Funeral Home in Chester.

Marion Hunt Sr.

YORK - Mr. Marion Reuben Hunt Sr., 68, of 305 Washington St. died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral home, with the Rev. George H. Lowry officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery.

Mr. Hunt was a son of the late Ed Hunt and Deva Jane Burkins Hunt. He was raised by his grandfather, the late Rev. R. Burkins and Lora Burkins Stroud. He was a member of St. Luke No. 2 Baptist Church and later joined New Zion Baptist Church in York. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his son, Marion Hunt Jr. of Rock Hill; three brothers, Jeremaih Castle and Jimmy Blaylock, both of York, and Harry Hunt of Rock Hill; his sister, Sarah Hunt Brice of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jeremaih Castle, 597 Old Pinckney Road, York.

William Mattingly Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Wathen Mattingly Jr., 43, of 244 Red River Road died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McLean-Bumgardner Twin Oaks Chapel in Belmont, N.C., with the Rev. Kyeth Lindsay officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.

A native of Decatur, Ill., Mr. Mattingly was a son of William W. Mattingly Sr. of Belmont and the late Juanita Berry Mattingly. He was formerly employed with the city of Charlotte Sanitation Department.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Audrey Wood of Killeen, Texas; three sons, William W. Mat-tingly and Bryan W. Mattingly, both of Rock Hill, and Albert Robinson of Taylorsville, Ill.; his daughter, Jennifer Mattingly of Killeen; three brothers, David Mattingly, Richard Mattingly and George Mattingly, all of Decatur; two sisters, Sheryl Berry of Belmont and Vicki Wood of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at McLean-Bumgardner Funeral Home.

Henry McVay

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. Henry McVay, 70, of Aiken Creek Road died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Chester County Hospital in Chester.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Fairfield County, with the Revs. T.G. Green and Moses Lightner officiating and the Rev. R.L. McClurklin assisting. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mr. McVay was a son of the late Will McVay and Lizzie Hall McVay. He was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Chester County and was a retired logger.

Surviving are two sisters, Marie Hopkins of Chester and Lizzie Woods of Baltimore.

The family will receive friends at the home of Marie Hopkins, 152 Stadium Drive, Chester.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday and may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery Street.

Gerald Meredith

YORK - Mr. Gerald Lee Meredith, 60, of 2341 Brightwood Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Beverly Health Care in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. G.B. Bennett and Peggy Thomas officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Meredith was a son of Sam Meredith of Pittsburgh and the late Hazel Baker Meredith. He was a employee of Solectron Technologies. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Church of God.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Helen Black Meredith; his daughter, Terrie M. Kahle of Newport; his brother, David Meredith of Melbourne, Fla.; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends at home. York Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Snipes

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Robert Lewis Snipes, 47, of 386 Edwards Circle died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mendel Baker officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Lancaster, Mr. Snipes was a son of Bruce Snipes of Lancaster and the late Ellen Louise Gainer Snipes. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. A former police officer with the city of Lancaster, Mr. Snipes had retired from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources as a sergeant after 12 years of service.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Maryanne Yanosick Snipes; two sons, Michael Thomas Snipes and Andrew Joseph Snipes, both of the home; three brothers, Donald Snipes, Luke Snipes and Randy Snipes, all of Lancaster; and his sister, Sylvia Adams of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends at the home.
