WAXHAW, N.C. - Mr. Glenn Melvin Benton Jr., 71, of Waxhaw died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 7 tonight at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel, with the Rev. Boyd Williams officiating.

A native of Union County, Mr. Benton was a son of Lena Wheeler Benton of Davidson, N.C., and the late Glenn Melvin Benton Sr. He served in the Navy at 13 years old and joined the Army at 17. He retired from Winn-Dixie Co. in 1990.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel Cooper Benton; four children, David Benton of Kannapolis, N.C., Janet Almond of Unionville, N.C., Cheryl Benton of Charlotte and Teresa Wilson of Rock Hill; two brothers, Jackie Benton of Mooresville, N.C., and Bo Benton of Landis, N.C.; three sisters, Mabel Roach of Davidson, Carol Wilson of Charlotte and Honey Cook of Cornelius, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at McEwen.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Archie Eller

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Archie H. Eller, 73, of 254 Wilson Road died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Olin Byrum officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Gaston County, Mr. Eller was a son of Connie S. Wilson of Gastonia and the late Archie Holland Eller Sr. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Apex in Asheville, N.C. Mr. Eller was an Army veteran.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Betty T. Eller; two sons, Richard Eller of Kings Mountain, N.C., and James Eller of Clover; three daughters, Wanda Carter of Gastonia, Patty Spearman of Clover and Jenny Vanderostyne of Jacksonville, N.C.; his stepdaughter, Karen Furr of Lancaster; his sister, Betty Mims of Gastonia; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Service in Gastonia.

Memorials may be made to Union Presbyterian Church, 5615 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.

Helen Grisham

CLOVER - Mrs. Helen "Ninny" Browning Grisham, 60, of 2429 Tallwood Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Haywood County, Mrs. Grisham was a daughter of the late James Russell Browning and Jessie Mae Smith Browning.

Surviving are her husband, David Grisham; her daughter, Beverly Woolard of Clover; two sons, Billy Ray Jenkins and Stephen "Steve" Jenkins, both of Gastonia, N.C.; two brothers, Jack Browning of Gastonia and Samuel Lee Browning of San Diego; her sister, Dot Massie of Waynesville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

Lillie Holbrook

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lillie Mae Holbrook, 95, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Beverly Health Care.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Huestess officiating.

A native of Yadkin, N.C., Mrs. Holbrook was a daughter of the late Ed McBride and Nancy McBride. She was the widow of Virgil Raymond Holbrook. A homemaker, Mrs. Holbrook was a lifelong member of India Hook United Methodist Church.

Friends may pay respects from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Bass Funeral Home.

James Lowry

CHARLOTTE - Mr. James "Cow-boy" Lowry of 1301 Pressley Road No. 2 died Saturday, Jan 8, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Bowling Green, with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Goode officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Lowry was a son of the late Kirk J. Lowry and Fleater Lowry.

Surviving are his daughter Teresa Lowry Johnson-Dunlap of Rock Hill; his son, James Lowry Jr. of Washington; two brothers, Mason Lowry of Charlotte and Joe N. Lowry of Burtonsville, Md.; four sisters, Bessie McFadden, Elvera Lowry, Mary Johnson and Diane Watkins, all of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at The Family Mortuary, 2310 Statesville Ave., Charlotte, and at other times at 5418 Amado Drive, Charlotte.

James McNeal

ROCK HILL - Mr. James McNeal of 463 Lige St. died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at White Hill AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. W.O. Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. McNeal was a son of the late Johnny McNeal and Julia Herbert McNeal. He was a former employee of Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. and worked for 28 years at Celanese Corp., where he achieved a perfect attendance record. Mr. McNeal was a veteran of World War II, where he earned a Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal. He attended the public schools of York County. He was a member of White Hill AME Zion Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Four Cross Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Page McNeal; and his brother, Willie Davis "Hump" McNeal of Bessemer City, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.

Willie Myers

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Willie Patterson Myers, 89, of 3101 Dogwood Ave., formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church in Catawba, with the Revs. Robert L. Shuler officiating and Dr. Marion A. Crawford and L.W. Edwards officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Myers was a daughter of the late Lewis Patterson Sr. and Carrie Edwards Myers. She attended the Chester County schools. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Charles Cherry, Alexander Myers and Johnny Myers, all of Rock Hill, and Edward Harris Myers of Charlotte; two daughters, Lillie Mae Myers and Anna Louise of Charlotte;

29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

James Perkins

IRON STATION, N.C. - Mr. James Miller Perkins, 76, of 1475 Ingleside Farm Road died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Warlick Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Walker and Macon Ballard officiating. Burial will be at Faith Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Perkins was a son of the late James Perkins and Lois Keever Perkins. He was a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Selwyn B. Perkins; two sons, Richard Perkins of the home and Eddie Lee Perkins of Iron Station; his daughter, Linda P. Zieverink of Rock Hill; three sisters, Eva Finney of Alexander, Va., Hazel Gray of Colonial Beach, Va., and Katherine McDaniel of Blue-mount, Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton, N.C.

Cleveland Seibles

ROCK HILL - Mr. Cleveland R. Seibles of 151 Armstrong Court died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating and the Rev. Benjamin Murdock assisting. Burial will be Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Seibles was a son of the late Beulah Davis and Robert Seibles. He attended the public schools of Fairfield County. He was a former member of Langrum Branch Baptist Church. He was a member of Motorcycle Club No. 74. He was retired from the city of Rock Hill street department.

Surviving are his wife, Annie K. Seibles; four sons, Arthur L. Seibles and Ronnie Seibles, both of Rock Hill, James Robert Seibles of Spartanburg and Patrick L. Seibles of Lancaster; his daughter, Linda Seibles McClinton of Lancaster; four sisters, Rachelle Pattishall of Neptune, N.J., Jackie Durham of St. Louis and Pamela Seibles and Norma Jean Seibles, both of Greensboro, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

Janice Taylor

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Janice Lambert Taylor, 50, of 1372 Flintwood Drive died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Revs. James Herron and Roland Dry officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the Rev. Carl W. and Lillie Simmons Lambert. She was a member of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church in Fort Mill. She was a former hair stylist and worked in Rock Hill and Fort Mill for 20 years. For the past 10 years, she worked as a customer service manager with Sears.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Guerry S. Taylor; her son, Matthew S. Taylor of Rock Hill; her daughter, Ashley Taylor McClain of Fort Mill; her sister, Marilyn L. Neely of Fort Mill; her brother, Ernest "Buddy" Lambert of Rock Hill; and her granddaughter.

Linda Walker

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Linda Duncan Walker of 517 Frank St. died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Tanglewood Nursing Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Center Emmanuel AME Zion Church, with the Revs. Loretta Adams, L.W. Edwards and C. Coleman officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Walker was a daughter of Roscoe Duncan of Maryland and the late Lucinda Duncan. She attended the public schools of York County. She was employed at Springs Industries in Fort Mill for a number of years. She was a former member of the Mount Zion Church of God in Fort Mill and was a current member of Center Emmanuel AME Zion Church, where she served on the usher board and the hymn choir.

Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Melvin Walker; two daughters, Angela Duncan and Sonya Wilson, both of Rock Hill; three sons, Bobby Duncan, Jimmy Kiser and Anthony Kiser, all of Rock Hill; her stepson, Patrick Simpson of Rock Hill; four sisters, Pearl Cowan of Capitol Heights, Md., Minnie Cureton of Spring Valley, N.Y., Barbara Welch of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Betty Rhinehart of Rock Hill; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion Church of God in Fort Mill and at other times at home.

James Adams

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Howard "Big A" Adams, 47, of 1146 Amelia Ave. died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edward J. Garrison officiating and the Revs. Daniel Chisolm and Jacob L. Chisolm III assisting. Burial will be at Weeping Mary Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Adams was a son of the late Jeff Adams and Helen Chisolm Adams. He graduated from Rock Hill High School and was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie Mae Thompson Adams; his son, Terrence Thompson Adams of Rock Hill; two daughters, Michelle Lindsay and Gwendolyn Howze, both of Rock Hill; four sisters, Mary Adams Page, Azalee Adams Blount, Tommie Adams Blake and Patricia A. Adams, all of Rock Hill; and two brothers, Dennis Morris Adams and Curtis Jamison, both of New Jersey.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Roy and Tommie Blake, 1340 Holland Road, Rock Hill.

Naomi Adams

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Naomi Neal Adams, 78, of the Georgetown community in Great Falls died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall in Chester with Mr. James Rouse officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Great Falls.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Adams the daughter of the late William Neal and Ola Barkley Neal. She was a Jehovah Witness and operated a candy store.

Surviving are her son, Richard Ray Adams of Bronx, N.Y.; her daughter, Patricia Adams Bailey of Bronx; three brothers, George Neal of Chester, Robert Neal of New York and Paul Neal of Washington; seven sisters, Annie Bell Moore of Chester, Beatrice Corbitt of Washington, Adlee McCullough and Leola Moore, both of Baltimore, Margaret Wilks and Eldora Neal, both of Charlotte, and Johnnie Mae Barber of Great Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral home.

Annie Benson

CHESTER - Mrs. Annie Carter Benson, 89, of 798 Pinckney Road died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chip Sneed officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Benson was a daughter of the late Henry T. Carter and Dora Locke Carter. She was the widow of Thomas Benson.

A retired registered nurse, Mrs. Benson practiced at Pryor Hospital and Chester County Hospital. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Oakley Hall School. She received her nursing training at Chester Training School for Nurses.

Surviving are several cousins.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jerry and Carolyn Locke, 2241 Rodman Road, Chester.
