Hallie Kelly

LANCASTER - Miss Hallie Beatrice Kelly, 96, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Beulah Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Wilber Maxwell officiating.

A native of Union County, N.C., Miss Kelly was a daughter of the late John Butler Kelly and Mitt Sarah Sings Kelly. She was retired from Niesler Mill in Pageland and a member of Pageland Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Hartley Funeral Home is in charge.

Shawn Gardner

KERSHAW - Mr. Shawn Ashley Gardner, 18, of 303 W. Church St. died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in Kershaw.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Lancaster, Mr. Gardner was a son of Ulysses Gardner Jr. of Lancaster and Melissa K. Kennington Gardner of Kershaw. A 1999 graduate of Lancaster High School, he was president of the Dirty South Car Club.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his paternal grandmother, Barbara Gardner of Lancaster; and his maternal grandparents, Ann W. Kennington of Lancaster and W.C. Kennington of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home in Lancaster and other times at the home.

Rosa Jackson

CHESTER - Mrs. Rosa Lee McCoy Jackson, 79, of 117 Oak St. died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at home.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at St. Paul Baptist Church in Lowrys, with the Rev. Bobby Featherstone officiating and the Rev. George Lowry giving the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Jackson was a daughter of the late H.C. McCoy and Mattie Howard McCoy. She is the widow of Paul Jackson Sr. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church and attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are two sons, Paul Jackson Jr. and Bobby E. Jackson, both of Chester; her daughter, Adlene J. Keenon of Chester; her brother, John McCoy of Chester; her sister, Mary Strong of Rock Hill; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be placed in the church 1:30 today.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Paul Williford

ROCK HILL - Mr. Paul Anderson Williford, 83, of 1331 Joyce Court died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Phil Lemons officiating and the Rev. Ralph Brown and Mr. Valmore Black assisting. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Union, Mr. Williford was a son of the late Samuel Edward Williford and Sadie Hyder Williford. Mr. Williford worked 30 years at Monarch Mills in Union and was retired from Springs Industries White Plant in Fort Mill, where he worked as a loom fixer.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Roberts Rainey Williford; four sons, S.W. Williford of Hickory, N.C., Paul Dean Williford of Union and John David Rainey and Steve Rainey, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Joyce Williford Candler of Union, Lisa Williford Funderburk and Lynn Rainey Devinney, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Jesse Williford and George Williford, both of Union; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mary Lou Rumfelt

BLACKSBURG - Ms. Mary Lou Rumfelt, 59, of 379 Dickson Road died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bratton Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Chris Ballard officiating and the Rev. Wayne Smith assisting. Burial will be at Philadelphia United Methodist Church cemetery in York.

A native of York County, Mrs. Rumfelt was a daughter of the late Bud Rumfelt Sr. and Mary Essie Jackson Rumfelt. She was an assembly operator for John Deere in Clover.

Surviving are her son, William Christopher Rumfelt of the home; four brothers, Lester R. Rumfelt, Bud Rumfelt Jr. and Pinkney A. Rumfelt, all of York, and James E. Rumfelt of Sharon; four sisters, Bertha R. McGinnis, Essie R. Myers, Helen R. Smith, and Virginia R. Ballard, all of York.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Virginia Ballard, 1999 Loggen Road, York.

Jackie Adkins Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jackie "Jack" Adkins Sr., 67, of 3760 Reid Road died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Zoar United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Howard officiating and the Rev. Joe Tysinger assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Adkins was a son of Marie Elizabeth Gordon Adkins of Fort Mill and the late Henry Ezetic Adkins. He was a retired millwright with T A Materials Handling Inc. of Charlotte, with more than 25 years service. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Janice Osborne Adkins; two sons, Jackie Lee Adkins Jr. of Charlotte and Timothy "Tim" Stevenson Adkins of Pineville, n.c.; three stepsons, William Timothy Dallas, Thomas Anthony "Tony" Dallas and Robert Trent Dallas, all of Rock Hill; two stepdaughters, Donna Dallas Borchert of Rock Hill and Michelle Dallas Caudle of Tega Cay; three brothers, Howard Eugene "Gene" Adkins, Pete Adkins and Charles Thomas "Red" Adkins, all of Fort Mill; two sisters, Mary Ellen Adkins Briggs of Fort Mill and Barbara Adkins Parks of Rock Hill; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Margaret Armstrong

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margaret Wallace Armstrong, 70, of 3079 Harmony Road died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating. Burial will be at Providence Baptist Cemetery.

A native of Calhoun, Ala., Mrs. Armstrong was a daughter of the late Claude Wallace and Lillian Swofford Wallace. She was the widow of Henry Carlton Armstrong. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Piedmont, Ala. Mrs. Armstrong was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. and was an avid gardener.

Surviving are four sons, Ronnie Armstrong and Larry C. "Butch" Armstrong, both of Augusta, Ga., Michael E. Bice of Anchorage, Alaska, and Danny C. Armstrong of McConnells; six daughters, Henri Lynn Gunnels of Jacksonville, Ala., Rita A. Bennett and Deborah J. Smith, both of Rock Hill, E. Regina Brakefield of Troy, N.C., Sandra D. Collins of Fort Mill and Margaret K. Jones of Mesquite, Texas; her sister, Barbara Bice of Piedmont; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association South Carolina Affiliate, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Billy Benfield

YORK - Mr. Billy Gene Benfield, 50, of 302 Blackburn St. died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bratton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phil Lemmons officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Benfield was a son of James and Mozelle S. Benfield of York. He was an Army veteran.

Surviving are four brothers, Tommy Benfield, David Benfield, Randy Benfield and Joey Benfield, all of York; and four sisters, Shiela B. Zirkle of Filbert, and Mary Frances B. Horne, Shirley B. Polk and Sandra B. Childers, all of York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Katherine Boan

ROCK HILL - Ms. Katherine "Kay" Emma Georgias Boan, 75, of 314 N. Confederate Ave. died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Needham, Mass., Mrs. Boan was a daughter of the late Basil J. Georgias and Laura Haulis Georgias. She was a member of Rebecca Assembly of South Carolina and attended Park Avenue Daycare.

Surviving are her son, Tom Boan Sr. of Catawba; three daughters, Katherine F. Boan-Davies of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Judy B. Johnson of Chester and Betty Ann Estes of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial may be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

James Mobley

ROCK HILL - Mr. James O. "Jungle Jim" Mobley, 46, of 215 Baker St. died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at China Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Johnny Worthy officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Mobley was a son of the late James Mobley and Nola Anderson. A construction worker, Mr. Mobley attended Emmett Scott High School and Clinton College. He was a member of China Grove AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his son, Antwan Burris of Rock Hill; two daughters, Laueia Killian and Tawanna Mobley, both of Rock Hill; his brother, Daniel L. Mobley of Rock Hill; five sisters, Timothy Crome, Carrie Jones, Gloris McNeal, Rita Miller and Karen Uhomoibhi, all of Rock Hill; and his grandchild.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. today.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Gehman

FORT MILL - Mr. Robert "Bobby" Callar Gehman, 76, of 203 Starnes Point died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral was Tuesday at Assembly Church of God in Lancaster, Pa.

A native of Lancaster, Pa., Mr. Gehman was a son of the late Martin W. Gehman and Nellie Boyd Gehman. He worked at Goodwill Industries in Lancaster, Pa., and was a member of the Lord's Armory Church in Fort Mill.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Chambers Gehman; two brothers, Herbie Gehman of Lancaster, Pa., and Jerard W. Gehman of Orlando, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill was in charge.

Nancy Holler

MATTHEWS, N.C. - Miss Nancy Little Holler, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Plantation Estates.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Plantation Estates Chapel. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Union Mills Presbyterian Church in Rutherford County.

A native of Rutherford County, Miss Holler was a daughter of the late O. Jerome Holler and Mary Forney Holler. She was a retired secretary for Libbey Glass Co.

Surviving are her brother, Jerome Holler of Union Mills, N.C.; and three sisters, Elizabeth Holler Orr of Anderson, Nell Holler Givens of Rock Hill and Mary Ann Holler Lee of Monroe, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Union Mills Presbyterian Church, 2600 Centennial Road, Union Mills, NC 28167. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is in charge.

Edna Hoover

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Edna P. Hoover, 82, of Rock Hill died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Lee Bryant officiating.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Hoover was a daughter of the late Deorse Pendleton and Lavenia Boyd Pendleton. She was the widow of Fred Hoover. A homemaker and quilter, Mrs. Hoover was a charter member of Woodland United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn H. Jenkins of Greenville; three sisters, Essie Hope, Virginia Neely and Frankie Armstrong, all of Rock Hill; her granddaughter; and her great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Sue Jones

BELLEAIR, Fla. - Mrs. Sue McFarland Jones, 68, of 1723 Cypress Ave. died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Serenity Gardens in Largo, Fla., with the Rev. Thomas Madden officiating.

A native of Richmond, Va., she was a daughter of the late Marine Brig. General Thomas Grady McFarland, formerly of York, and Frances Council McFarland. She was the widow of Graydon Jones. She was former owner of of Belleair Insurance Agency and most recently worked in the office of Barrett and Barret, attorneys in Dunedin, Fla.

Surviving are two children, Casey Graydon Jones of Belleair and Candace Wright of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and her brother, Ret. Major Thomas Grady McFarland.

International Mortuary of St. Petersburg, Fla., was in charge.

Memorials may be made to Hospice or the charity of one's choice.
