DALLAS, N.C. - Mrs. Jean Wood Mathis, 46, of 102 April Adkins Road died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Service Westside Chapel in Gastonia, N.C., with the Rev. Loyd Wooten officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery in Clover.

A native of York County, Mrs. Mathis was a daughter of Mae Joye of Clover and the late Samuel Wood. She was a spinner at Bowling Green Spinning Co. in Bowling Green.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Henry Lee Mathis; her son, Alvin "Speedy" Drawdy of Clover; her daughter, Jessica Drawdy of Clover; four brothers, Samuel Wood of Fort Mill, Steve Wood and Jessie Wood, both of Clover, and John Wood of Orange Park, Fla.; her sister, Elaine Wood of Clover; and her maternal grandmother, Eldie Stewart of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Service Westside Chapel and at other times at the home and at the home of her mother, Mae Joye, 1157 Hines Road, Clover.

Donna Roddey

CHESTER - Mrs. Donna Ann White Roddey, 62, of 1237 Liberty Road died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rock Hill, with Bishop Carl Smith officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Roddey was a daughter of the late Claud L. White and Anna Hanson White. She was a registered nurse who retired from Neighbors Care Home Health. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rock Hill. She graduated high school and received her nursing degree from Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Surviving are her husband, William G. Roddey Jr.; her son, Jon David Duncan of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Catherine Leone Moreton of Los Angeles and Linda Dianne Duncan of Walnut Creek, Calif.; her stepdaughter, Karen Bradley of Ellenboro, N.C.; her brother, Richard White of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mary Waite of Logan, Utah, and Betty Jean Gonzales of Salt Lake City; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Barron Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Barnette

YORK - Mrs. Willie Mae Hemphill Barnette, 79, of 2140 Old Son Lowery Road died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at New Home AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Darial Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Barnette was a daughter of the late Edward Hemphill and Lenora Dixon Hemphill. She was a member of New Home AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the hymn choir, the usher board and the missionary circle and was secretary of the Willing Workers #1. She also was a member of the White Hill chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She retired in 1998 and moved to the area from New York.

Surviving are three sons, Frontis Hemphill and Eric Barnette, both of York, and Marvin Hemphill of Gastonia, N.C.; her brother, Emmitt Hemphill of York; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:30 p.m. today at New Home AME Zion Church, when Eastern rites will be given.

Wright Funeral Home is in charge.

Kathryn Bowers

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Kathryn Rozella Faile Bowers, 80, of 1525 Bull St., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, with the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Bowers was a daughter of the late John Albertis Faile and Ola Gardner Faile. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a ward secretary for Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

Surviving are her son, Raymond Henry Bowers of Sacramento, Calif.; her brother, Hazel Faile of Macon, Ga.; and her sister, Viola Gibson of Centenary.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel.

Robert Caldwell

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. Robert Lee "Jigaboo" Caldwell, 66, of 4835 Tanglewood Road died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Loving Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. J. Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Caldwell was a son of the late B. J. Hicklin and Ethel Hayes. He was a member of the Loving Charity Baptist Church. He attended Chester County public schools and was retired from R. A. Darby Welldrilling Co.

Surviving are his wife, Dora Lee Caldwell; four daughters, Janie Walls of Blackstock, and Patricia A. Hayes, Sadie Johnson and Esther Squirewell, all of Great Falls; eleven brothers, J. W. Hayes of Lancaster, the Rev. Moses Hayes of Richburg, Roosevelt Hayes of Rock Hill, Sammie Hayes of Atlanta, Charles Hayes of Chester, James Robert Hicklin of South Gate, Calif., Leroy Hicklin, Larry Hicklin and Joseph Hicklin, all of Compton, Calif., and Paul Hicklin and Lewis Hicklin, both of Great Falls; six sisters, Susie Hayes and Alice Crockett, both of Rock Hill, Bobbie J. Hayes of Chester, Mary McClinton and Rematta Douglas, both of Great Falls and Bertha Coleman of Los Angeles; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home. The body may be viewed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester and from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kings Funeral Home, Great Falls Chapel, 2367 Douglas Road.

Lillian England

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lillian Frances Carroll England of 4118 Lesslie Highway died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at The Oratory, with the Revs. Joseph Wahl and David Valtierra officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Washington, Mrs. England was a daughter of the late Francis Sellman Carroll and Suselle Elgin Carroll. She was the widow of James E. England Sr.

Mrs. England was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Washington and worked at The Oratory from 1952 to 1993 as secretary and office manager.

She was president of the South Carolina Council of Catholic Women in 1972. She was past president of The Deanery for the South Carolina Council of Catholic Women and the St. Anne Women's Guild. Mrs. England was named Woman of the Year in 1965 by the South Carolina Council of Catholic Women. She was a former member of St. Anne Catholic Church and was a current member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. James E. England Jr. of Chapin and Robert Matthew England of Rock Hill; her daughter, Barbara England Wallace of Catawba; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 today at Newman Hall at The Oratory and at other times at the home of Matthew England, 1979 High Pines Road, Rock Hill.

Sarah Gibson

LANCASTER - Mrs. Sarah Lee Robinson Gibson, 73, of Apt. 201 of Lancaster Manor died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Ansel Smith officiating.

A native of Chesterfield, Mrs. Gibson was a daughter of the late Norman Levi Robinson and the late Ella Boone Robinson. She was a homemaker and was a former member of South Avenue Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are eight sons, James Gibson, Donald Gibson, Ronald Gibson, Billy Ray Gibson, Kenneth Gibson and Jeffrey Gibson of Lancaster, Roger Gibson of Rock Hill and Randy Gibson of Pageland; her daughter, Debbie Grier of Lancaster; her brother, John Robinson of Lancaster; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel and at other times at the home of Kenneth and Tammy Gibson, 2551 Lazy Oak Drive, Lancaster.

Ruth Helms

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruth Carolyn Yarborough Helms, 74, of 1873 Charter Drive died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ronnie Fite officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Helms was a daughter of the late David Harley Yarborough and Margaret "Maggie" Collins Yarborough. She was a graduate of Indian Land High School and was a homemaker. A former resident of Norfolk, Va., she was a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Larry Helms; her daughter, Lisa C. Klages of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, L. J. "Pete" Yarborough of Rock Hill and Ward Herlong Yarborough of Charlotte; two sisters, Frances Y. Massey of Fort Mill and Doris Williams of Santee; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Patricia Sink

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mrs. Patricia Cloer Sink, 41, of the Lewisville community in Richburg, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Jacob Lackey officiating. A memorial service will be at Union ARP Church in Richburg at 4 p.m. Thursday.

A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Sink was a daughter of Mrs. John Cloer and the late John Watson Cloer.

She was a graduate of Myers Park High School and UNC-Charlotte and received her master's degree in education from Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was a counselor/therapist at Chester Park Elementary School and was a former therapist with Family Connection in Charlotte.

Mrs. Sink also was a longtime employee of the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, where she served several years as the youth director, and she also attended Union ARP Church. She was on the board of the Hazel Pittman Center for Counseling and was a member of the PTO of Lewisville Elementary School.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Jack Clifton Sink; two daughters, Jessica Marie Sink and Courtney Elise Sink of the home; two sisters, Vivian C. Lineberry of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Pamela C. Zdenek of Houston; and two brothers, John B. Cloer of Charlotte and Mark S. Cloer of Lake Wylie.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Harry and Bryant Company in Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to Duke Children's Hospital, in care of the Patricia Sink Fund, Box 3350, Durham, NC 27710, to the attention of Jane Schroeder.

Samuel Todd Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Joseph Todd Jr., 87, of 1330-219 India Hook Road died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William C. Pender officiating.

A native of Due West, Mr. Todd was a son of the late Samuel J. Todd Sr. and Mary Grove Todd. He was a graduate of Erskine College and George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., where he received his master's in school administration. He taught in Honea Path and Laurens schools and taught meteorology and aircraft recognition to pilots in ground school during World War II.

He founded Todd Lumber Co. in Rock Hill in 1947, City Builder Services in 1957 and later founded Todd Realty. Mr. Todd was past exalted ruler of Rock Hill Elks Lodge 1318 and received the Benjamin Trophy in 1957, a national award presented to the top Elks Lodge Ritualistic Team in the United States. He was past president of the Rock Hill Kiwanis Club and previously served as secretary of the American Red Cross Board.

He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and adult Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Neel "Neely" Milling Todd; his son, Samuel Joseph Todd III of Edisto Beach; his sister, Mary T. McGee of Starr; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 tonight at Westminster Towers Community Room.

William Ward

BELMONT, N.C. - William Jasper "Whitey" Ward Sr., 56, of Lakeshore Road in Denver, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte. The body may be viewed for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Ward was a a son of the late Marvin N. Ward and Elsie L. Watkins Ward. He was supervisor for ATC Aftermarket Technology Corp., was a member of the American Legion Post No. 353, was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School and was a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Patty Sullins Ward; three sons, Curtis Ward, Patrick Glover and William J. Ward Jr., all of Charlotte; three daughters, Cheri McAbee of Clover, and Susan Ward and Tricia Morris, both of Charlotte; his brother, Gary Ward Sr. of Alexis, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children Burn Center, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Rebecca Woods

YORK - Mrs. Rebecca Woods, 93, of 110 Valley Road died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel, with Bishop Perry Hoey officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Woods was a daughter of the late Rev. W.T. Boulware and Sonora Jamison Boulware. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include three sisters, Annie L. Collins of Rock Hill, Annie Bell Roseboro of Sharon and Vessie Peterson of Washington, D.C.; her brother, Odell Boulware of Gastonia; 11 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 42 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York.

Ann Barnett

CLOVER - Mrs. Ann Brandon Barnett, 79, of 1000 Kingsbury Road died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. John Gess and John Dorst officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Barnett was a daughter of the late Forrest Craig Brandon and Margaret Riddle Brandon. She was a retired teacher from Gaston County, N.C., schools and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Clauson Alexander Barnett.

Surviving are her sister, Martha Brandon Ford of Clover; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.
