Sarah Martin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sarah Rosebud Hardin Martin, 75, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at West End Baptist Church, with the Revs. James Lowery and Mike Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Smyrna, Mrs. Martin was a daughter of the late Furman D. Hardin and Fannie Bell Spencer Hardin. She was raised by her father and Amanda Westmoreland Hardin. She was the widow of the late William L. "Shorty" Martin.

Mrs. Martin was a member of West End Baptist Church. She served on the Rock Hill Housing Advisory Council, was a member of the Rock Hill Senior Citizen Band and worked in the York County Fair Exhibition Hall for years. She was a retired weaver in the textile industry.

Surviving are six sons, William Lester Martin Jr. of Hickory Grove, Richard L. Martin of Greenwood, Kenneth A. Martin of Lesslie and D. Wayne Martin, Norris S. Martin and Bruce W. Martin, all of Rock Hill; two daughters, Hazel M. Adams and Helen M. Helms, both of Rock Hill; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service and at other times at the home of Kenneth "Kenny" Martin, 2508 Mosstree Court, Lesslie.

Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church building fund, 1727 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732 or Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Donna Roddey

CHESTER - Mrs. Donna Ann White Roddey, 62, of 1237 Liberty Road died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today, rescheduled from Monday, at Barron Funeral Home in Chester, with Bishop Carl Smith officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Roddey was a daughter of the late Claud L. White and Anna Hanson White. She was a registered nurse who retired from Neighbors Care Home Health. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Rock Hill. She graduated from high school and received her nursing degree from Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Surviving are her husband, William G. Roddey Jr.; her son, Jon David Duncan of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Catherine Leone Moreton of Los Angeles and Linda Dianne Duncan of Walnut Creek, Calif.; her stepdaughter, Karen Bradley of Ellenboro, N.C.; her brother, Richard White of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mary Waite of Logan, Utah, and Betty Jean Gonzales of Salt Lake City; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Missionary Fund, c/o Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1883 Saluda Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Patricia Sink

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mrs. Patricia Cloer Sink, 41, of the Lewisville community in Richburg, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Jacob Lackey officiating. A memorial service will be at Union ARP Church in Richburg at 4 p.m. Thursday.

A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Sink was a daughter of Mrs. John Cloer and the late John Watson Cloer.

She was a graduate of Myers Park High School and UNC-Charlotte and received her master's degree in education from Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was a counselor/therapist at Chester Park Elementary School and was a former therapist with Family Connection in Charlotte.

Mrs. Sink also was a longtime employee of the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, where she served several years as the youth director, and she also attended Union ARP Church. She was on the board of the Hazel Pittman Center for Counseling and was a member of the PTO of Lewisville Elementary School.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Jack Clifton Sink; two daughters, Jessica Marie Sink and Courtney Elise Sink of the home; two sisters, Vivian C. Lineberry of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Pamela C. Zdenek of Houston; and two brothers, John B. Cloer of Charlotte and Mark S. Cloer of Lake Wylie.

Samuel Todd Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Joseph Todd Jr., 87, of 1330-219 India Hook Road died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service, scheduled for Monday, will be held at a later date at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William C. Pender officiating.

A native of Due West, Mr. Todd was a son of the late Samuel J. Todd Sr. and Mary Grove Todd. He was a graduate of Erskine College and George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., where he received his master's in school administration. He taught in Honea Path and Laurens schools and taught meteorology and aircraft recognition to pilots in ground school during World War II.

He founded Todd Lumber Co. in Rock Hill in 1947, City Builder Services in 1957 and later founded Todd Realty. Mr. Todd was past exalted ruler of Rock Hill Elks Lodge 1318 and received the Benjamin Trophy in 1957, a national award presented to the top Elks Lodge Ritualistic Team in the United States. He was past president of the Rock Hill Kiwanis Club and previously served as secretary of the American Red Cross Board.

He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and adult Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Neel "Neely" Milling Todd; his son, Samuel Joseph Todd III of Edisto Beach; his sister, Mary T. McGee of Starr; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 tonight at Westminster Towers Community Room.

Memorials may be made to the S.C. State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, P.O. Box 821, Columbia, SC 29202 or to Oak-land Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill SC 29730.

Annie Wolfe

FORT MILL - Mrs. Annie Lemmond Wolfe, 100, formerly of Van Wyck Road in Indian Land, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Belair United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Steve McCormick and Bert Watson officiating. Burial will be at Belair Cemetery.

A native of Union County, Mrs. Wolfe was a daughter of the late Newton Lemmond and Elizabeth Yarborough Lemmond. She was the widow of June Wolfe. A homemaker, she was a member of Belair United Methodist Church and enjoyed flower gardening.

Surviving are two sons, Stitt Wolfe of Columbia and Larry Wolfe of Indian Land; six daughters, Catherine W. Funderburk and Louise Riddle, both of Fort Mill, Frances Coley and Emily Comer, both of Rock Hill, June Starnes of Charlotte and Joan Bouknight of Columbia; her brother, Joe Lemmond of Marvin; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Belair United Methodist Church and at other times at the home of Frances Coley, 205 Hillcrest Ave., Rock Hill.

Willie Mae Barnette

YORK - Mrs. Willie Mae Hemphill Barnette, 79, of 2140 Old Son Lowery Road died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today, rescheduled from Monday, at New Home AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Darial Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Barnette was a daughter of the late Edward Hemphill and Lenora Dixon Hemphill. She was a member of New Home AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the hymn choir, the usher board and the missionary circle and was secretary of the Willing Workers No. 1. She also was a member of the White Hill chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She retired in 1998 and moved to the area from New York.

Surviving are three sons, Frontis Hemphill and Eric Barnette, both of York, and Marvin Hemphill of Gastonia, N.C.; her brother, Emmitt Hemphill of York; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:30 p.m. today at New Home AME Zion Church, when Eastern rites will be given.

Kathryn Bowers

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Kathryn Rozella Faile Bowers, 80, of 1525 Bull St. died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at her home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw chapel, with the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Bowers was a daughter of the late Rev. John Albertus Faile and Ola Gardner Faile. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was formerly a ward secretary for Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

Surviving are her son, Raymond Henry Bowers of Sacramento, Calif.; her brother, Hazel Faile of Macon, Ga.; and her sister, Viola Gibson of Centenary.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Tracy Brandon

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Mr. Tracy Lynn Brandon, 41, of 118 Prim Lane died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral, rescheduled from today, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bratton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Olivene Martin officiating and the Rev. Clifford Cochran assisting. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Brandon was a son of the late Robert Brandon and Glee Deal Brandon. He was an electrician.

Surviving are his son, Tracy Lynn Brandon Jr. of Rock Hill; his brother, Steven Brandon of York; five sisters, Debra Brandon Hoyle, Kimberly Brandon Huffstetler and Angela B. Phillips-McCoy, all of York, Peggy Brandon Jordon of Myrtle Beach and Kathy Brandon Porter of the home; three stepbrothers, Larry Childers and Michael Childers, both of York, and Joey Childers of Hickory Grove; his stepsister, Pat Krepps of York; his stepmother, Ruth Brandon of York; and his companion, Roxanne Norman of the home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister, Angela Phillips-McCoy, 237 E. Jefferson St., York.

Margie Branham

CHESTER - Mrs. Margie Smith Branham, 60, of 2080 Whipperwill Hill Drive, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wright's Home for Funerals, with the Rev. Dale Roddey officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Winnsboro, Mrs. Branham was a daughter of the late Fred H. Smith Sr. and Lonie Wilson Smith. She was a 1958 graduate of Ridgeway High School.

Surviving are her husband, John H. Branham; two sons, J. Allen Branham of Chester and Kenneth W. "Toot" Branham of Lowrys; four brothers, the Rev. Eugene Smith, Fred H. Smith Jr. and John L. Smith, all of Winnsboro, and James Smith of Blythewood; three sisters, Doris Jackson of Ridgeway and Marie Floyd and Jo'an Hollis, both of Winnsboro; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Mark Brock

JAMAICA, N.Y. - Mr. Mark Brock of 116-31 130th St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at a Jamaica, N.Y., hospital.

The funeral will be Thursday in New York.

Among the survivors is his grandmother, Eliza Douglas of Rock Hill.

Janie Clifton

RICHBURG - Mrs. Janie R. Clifton, 68, of 4021 Wylies Mill Road died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Mount Vernon AME Zion Church, with the Rev. J.E. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Clifton was a member of Mount Vernon AME Zion Church. She attended public schools in Chester County and was a homemaker. She was a daughter of the late Willie Robinson and Lillie Mae Robinson Cherry.

Surviving are her husband, Willie F. "Jackie" Clifton; her son, Dennis J. Robinson of Chester; her brother, James D. "J.D." Robinson of Edgemoor; her sister, Phyllis Hatcher of Edgemoor; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. today.

Arlie Earle

CLOVER - Mrs. Arlie McCarter Earle, 86, of Atria, formerly of 113 McConnell St., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Atria.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Clover ARP Church, with the Rev. Rob Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Earle was a daughter of the late George McCarter and Emma McCarter. She was the widow of Lewis Blease Earle. She was a member of Clover ARP Church.

Surviving are four sons, Wilmer Earle and G. Leonard Earle, both of Clover, Thomas Earle of Columbia and Bobby F. Earle of Destin, Fla.; three daughters, Sara Sherer of Troutman, N.C., Dianne Wallace of Clover and Barbara Ropp of Spartanburg; two sisters, Margaret Nivens and Alberta Starnes, both of Clover; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

Sarah Gibson

LANCASTER - Mrs. Sarah Lee Robinson Gibson, 73, of Lancaster Manor, Apt. 201, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster chapel, with the Rev. Eddie Usher officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield, Mrs. Gibson was a daughter of the late Norman Levi Robinson and Ella Boone Robinson. She was a homemaker and formerly was a member of South Avenue Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are eight sons, James Gibson, Donald Gibson, Ronald Gibson, Billy Ray Gibson, Kenneth Gibson and Jeffery Gibson, all of Lancaster, Roger Gibson of Rock Hill and Randy Gibson of Pageland; her daughter, Debbie Grier of Lancaster; her brother, John Robinson of Lancaster; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster chapel, is in charge.
