Oscar Fortner

ROCK HILL - Mr. Oscar H. Fortner, 66, of 807 S. Cherry Road died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Revs. Steve Hogg and Dr. Sollie Hicks officiating.

A native of Anderson, Mr. Fortner was a son of the late Fate F. Fortner and Omie Barnwell Fortner. He was a member of First Baptist Church and former owner of Brown Shoes in Rock Hill. He also was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Rock Hill. Mr. Fortner was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

He was a member of Corinthian Lodge No. 416 in Newport, Past Master of Rock Hill Masonic Lodge No. 385, Past Matron of Starlite Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 243, honorary member of Catawba Lodge No. 56 in Fort Mill, Hejaz Shrine Temple and York County Crescent Shrine Club.

A Masonic memorial service will be 6 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, after which the family will receive friends until 7 p.m. and other times at the home.

Dorothy Fowler

SPARTANBURG - Miss Dorothy Rae Fowler, 79, of Magnolia Manor died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

The funeral was Wednesday at Bobo Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. William Pace and Brent Powell officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

A native of Cowpens, Miss Fowler was a daughter of the late Shealey Fowler and Flossie Godfrey Fowler. She was a longtime resident of the Georgia Cleveland Home.

Surviving are her brother, Donald Fowler of Rock Hill; and six sisters, Louie Pace Sr., Jewell Willard and Mivory Murph, all of Cowpens, Jennie Smith of Greer, Eva Pierce of Spartanburg and Martha Bennett of Cannons Community.

Alan Gross

ROCK HILL - Dr. Alan J. Gross, 65, of 300 Berkeley Road, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000.

The funeral will be noon Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with Rabbi Jessica Spitalnic officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Bronx, N.Y., Dr. Gross was a son of the late Jacob Gross and Sara "Sadie" Gross Gross. He was a full professor in the Department of Biometry at the Medical University of South Carolina for 22 years and retired as an emeritus professor in June 1998. He was an ASA Fellow and received awards for Contributor Health Services Research. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UCLA. He earned his doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Gross; two sons, Andrew Gross of Morris Plains, N.J., and Michael Gross of Orlando, Fla.; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends today at the home.

James Jamieson

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Pride Jamieson, 66, of 1601 Twin Lakes Road died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tirzah Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James Gable officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill.

A native of York County, Mr. Jamieson was a son of the late Robert Parker Jamieson and Magnolia Parrish Jamieson. He was a retired welder and pipe fitter. An Army veteran, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Newport.

Surviving are five sons, Chris Jamieson, Butch Jamieson and Mark Jamieson, all of York, Phillip Jamieson of Clover and Tim Jamieson of Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Kathy Jamieson of Clover and Tammy J. Parra of Lake Wylie; four brothers, Bob Jamieson, Bill Jamieson, Jim Jamieson and Gray Jamieson, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Emily J. Prestwood and Peggy J. Ashe, both of Rock Hill; his companion, Frances Hunt of the home; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home in York.

Lowell Sanders Jr.

CHESTER - Mr. Lowell Sanders Jr. of 217 Ligon St. died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Brown's Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. O.L. Smith officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Sanders was a son of the late Lowell Sanders Sr. and Elavite Walker Sanders. He attended the public schools of Chester County and was a member of Brown's Chapel AME Zion Church.

Surviving are three sisters, Janie S. Hope of Lowrys and Pearl M. Sanders and Alberta Rambert, both of Chester, Pa.; and three brothers, John Robert Sanders, Bennie Sanders and Jerrall Hall, all of Chester.

The family will be at the home of his sister, Janie S. Hope, 918 Elm Road, Lowrys.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Friday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Clara Scott

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Clara Muriel Gill Scott, 93, of 1800 India Hook Road, Spring Arbor, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Columbia, with the Rev. Dr. Michael L. Guffee Sr. officiating.

A native of Tay, Ontario, Canada, Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late Charles Gill and Martha Corbett Gill. She was the widow of Arthur Leslie Scott. She moved to Columbia in 1949 and was among the founders of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Cassina Garden Club and was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Surviving are her daughter, Ann Scott Terry of Rock Hill; her son, Glenn Edward Scott of Columbia; her sister, Eileen Gill Robertson of Toronto, Canada; her nephew and niece and four great-nieces.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

William Suttle

LANCASTER - Mr. William Manning "Sonny" Suttle, 61, of 1464 Victoria St. died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Bobby Bailey. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Suttle was a son of Ethel Brown Suttle of Lancaster and the late William M. Suttle. He was a member of White Springs Baptist Church and retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving in addition to this mother are his wife, Mildred Adams Suttle; his son, William Manning Suttle of Lancaster; and his sister, Alma Jean Robinson of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral home and at other times at home.

Onnie Twitty

KERSHAW - Mrs. Onnie Bell Langley Twitty, 86, of 7525 Kershaw-Camden Highway died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Center Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Marion Dry and Larry Twitty officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Twitty was a daughter of the late James E. Langley and Sallie Anne Robinson Langley. She was the widow of Frank Twitty. She was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are her son, Francis W. Twitty of Lancaster; her sister, Eliza L. Twitty of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Frank Walker Jr.

CATAWBA - Mr. Frank Walker Jr. of 223 Hall Spencer Road died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Bethel United Methodist Church in Chester County, with the Rev. Robert Shuler officiating. The Rev. George A. McCoy will give the eulogy. Burial will at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Walker was a son of the late Frank Walker Sr. and Channie Walker. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. after 30 years service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3746. He attended Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are his wife, Arsonia Walker; two sons, Lindsey R. Walker and Kenneth F. Walker, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Verna W. Potts of Fort Mill and Linda W. Anderson and Carolyn W. Dingle, both of Rock Hill; his brother, Wylie Walker of Catawba; three sisters, Frances Griffin of Charlotte and Ida B. McCruel and Carrie Mackey, both of Catawba; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his niece, Loretta Neely, with whom he lived.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Linda Anderson, 886 Finley Road, Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Ernest Watson

RIDGEWAY - Mr. Ernest Watson, formerly of Great Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Great Falls, with the Rev. Paul Hicklin officiating and the Rev. Williams Hayes assisting. Burial will be at Elizabeth Heights Cemetery in Great Falls.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Watson was the son of the late Martin Boulware and Hattie Lamar. He joined the Camp Welfare Church at an early age. He was the widower of Queen Gladden Watson. He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his sister, Nettie Bell Gladden of Great Falls; two stepdaughters, Gloria Ann Wise of Ridgeway and Beatrice Young of Camden; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Reymundo Abarca-Escudero

YORK - Mr. Reymundo Abarca-Escudero, 20, of 730-F Highway 321 Bypass, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000.

The funeral Mass will be 6 p.m today at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home with Father Juan Carols Castano officiating. Burial will be in Panteon Municipal in Zacualtipan, Hidalgo, Mexico.

A native of Zacualtipan, Mr. Abarca-Escudero was a son of Humberto Abarca Ramon and Rufina Escudero De Abarca of Mexico. He was a general laborer with Matthews Con-struction Co. in Rock Hill.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his fianc?, Sami Jo Neil of York; his brother, Humberto Abarca-Escudero of Zacualtipan; and two sisters of Zacualtipan.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. today at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

Milton Amsrud

La Crosse, Wis. - Mr. Milton G. Amsrud, 88, of La Crosse died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Hillview Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Shumacher-Kish Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bernard J. McCarty officiating. Ennichement will be at a later date in Catholic Cemetery.

A native of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Mr. Amsrud was a son of the late Melvin Amsrud and Martha Young Amsrud. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1929 and was a member of the high school band that played in a special concert directed by John Phillip Sousa. Mr. Amsrud was an accountant at Erickson Bakery for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Tevis Amsrud; two daughters, Karen Larson of St. Mary's, Ga., and Gail Hayes of Munsy, Pa.; two sons, Gene Amsrud of Genoa, Wis., and Roy Amsrud of Naperville, Ill.; two sisters, Ethel Brophy and Helen Riggenberg, both of Madison, Wis.; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home.

Katie Beckham

CHESTER - Mrs. Katie Evelyn Dickey Beckham, 84, of 566 Pryor St. died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Westside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Chapman officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Beckham was a daughter of the late John Y. Dickey and Jane Dickey Dickey. She was the widow of Coleman B. Beckham. Mrs. Beckham was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. She attended the Chester County schools.

Surviving are her son, Wayne T. Beckham of Salem, Ill.; her daughter, Linda Miller of Charleston; two brothers, Jerry Dickey of Chester and Sam A. Dickey of Charlotte; her sister, Cynthia Thompson of Chester; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.
