Flossie Cook

FORT MILL - Mrs. Flossie Hensley Cook, 76, of 2230 Doby's Bridge Road died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glenrock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating and the Rev. Bennie Wade assisting. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. Cook was the widow of Emmett Cook. She was retired from Springs Industries after 47 years at the Fort Mill plant. She was a member of First Baptist Church, and she enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are her daughter, Elaine C. Cunnup of Fort Mill; four brothers, Ladd Hensley of Indian Land, Ray Hensley of Elizabeth City, N.C., Wade Hensley of Shalotte, N.C., and Billy Hensley of Fort Mill; three sisters, Margaret Belt, Rosa Neely and Lacy Helms, all of Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Glenrock Baptist Church and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Glenrock Baptist Church building fund, 1815 Doby's Bridge Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Fort Mill Funeral Home is in charge.

L.J. Smith

CHESTER, Va. - Mr. L.J. Smith, 72, formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield, Va.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Smith was a son of the late C.L. Smith and Ada Smith. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Miriam Holder Smith; two sons, Larry J. Smith and Stephan R. Smith, both of Richmond, Va.; four sisters, Alma Williams, Zelma Bolin, Thelma Harris and Lois Moore, all of Rock Hill; two brothers, Roy L. Smith of Ninety-six and Robert C. Smith of Rentil, Wash.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight at Morrissett Funeral Home in Richmond, Va.

Robert Ford

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Jesse Ford, 80, of 140 McFadden St. died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl McJunkins officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

A native of Richland County, Mr. Ford was a son of the late Jesse Gilyard and Hattie Lovett Ford. He was a cabinet maker and a member of McConnells Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth McKinney Ford; his son, William Robert Ford of Williston; three daughters, Patricia Hula Queen of Sautee, Ga., Brenda Ford Falls of Kings Mountain and Linda Ford Lewis of Rock Hill; his sister, Pearl Strickland Dial of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Essie Hope

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Essie Pendleton Hope, 95, of 1045 Belmar Lane died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Heustess officiating.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Hope was a daughter of the late Deorse Pendleton and Lavenia Boyd Pendleton. She was the widow of Henry Banks Hope. She was a member of India Hook United Methodist Church, where she was the oldest member. She worked for Southern Bell for 10 years and Rock Hill Telephone Co. for 33 years, where she was a member of the Pioneer Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Edith Deas of Rock Hill; two sisters, Virginia Neely and Frankie Armstrong, both of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to India Hook United Methodist Church, 3300 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Kenneth Totherow

YORK - Kenneth Mason Totherow, infant son of Layton and Trina Lynn Totherow of 13591 West Highway 55, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Pineville City Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Woodward officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, Brian Barbour, Nathan Totherow and Dylan Totherow, all of the home; two sisters, Miranda Sturgill and Kimberlyn Cox, both of the home; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Woodward of the home; his paternal grandfather, Harry Totherow of Fort Mill; his maternal grandmother, Linda Hagler of Michigan; and his maternal grandfather, Ken Sturgill of Ohio.

Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill is in charge.

Beatrice Knightner

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Beatrice Knightner, 87, of 325 Arnold St. died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home, with Brother Allen Russell officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Knightner was the daughter of the late Gilliam Thomas and Daisy P. Thomas. She was the widow of Jessie Knightner. She attended the public schools of York County. She was a retired domestic worker. She was a Jehovah Witness.

Surviving are her son, Wardell Thomas of Rock Hill; her daughter, Arleaner T. Hoyle of Rock Hill; her brother, Raymond Thomas of Savannah, Ga.; her sister, Ozzliee Parriott of Newark, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will be at 1655 Mullberry Circle in Rock Hill.

Louise Lipscomb

HARLEYVILLE - Mrs. Henry Louise Mitchell Lipscomb, 81, of 294 E. Main St. died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.

The funeral was Monday, Jan. 24, at First Baptist Church of Harleyville, with the Revs. Ron Lewis and Hugh Fortson officiating. Burial was at Harleyville Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Lipscomb was a daughter of the late John Martin Mitchell and Effie Irene Thomas Mitchell. She was a graduate of York High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, the Ladies Adults Sunday school class and the Women's Mission Union. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Harido Chapter No. 161 Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, Oswald Wilson Lipscomb; three brothers, Oscar Rawls Mitchell of St. George, Theodore "Ted" Mitchell and Phillip B. Mitchell, both of York; three sisters, Rozelle M. Harper of Rock Hill, and Jessie M. Smith of York and Edith M. Roberts of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.

Bryant Funeral Home of St. George was in charge.

Marcus Jordan

RICHBURG - Mr. Marcus Neil Jordan, 71, of 4455 Richburg Road died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Myrtle Beach.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union ARP Church in Richburg, with the Revs. Allen Derrick and Clarence Fouse officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Shoals Presbyterian Church cemetery in Richburg.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Jordan was a son of the late Claude Bernard Jordan Sr. and Margie Stroud Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a retired truck driver for Consolidated Freightways. He was a graduate of Lewisville High School.

He was a member of Cedar Shoals Presbyterian Church, Richburg Masonic Lodge No. 89, Jackson Shrine Club, Hejaz Shrine Club and the Lancaster Moose Club.

Surviving are several cousins and his close friend, Katie Ward of Myrtle Beach.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson Shrine Club, 1449 Plantation Road, Lancaster.

Marvin Miles

LANCASTER - Mr. Marvin C. Miles, 79, of Lancaster died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Boone officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Darlington, Mr. Miles was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Miles and Ella Virginia Dyson Miles. He was retired from Springs Industries, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 31.

Surviving are his brother, Earl Miles of Lancaster; his sister, Myrtle M. Stogner of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Annis Ramsey

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Annis Varce Haynes Myers Ramsey, 84, of 4587 Forest View Road died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia, N.C. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.

A native of Unicoi County, Tenn., Mrs. Ramsey was a daughter of the late William Haynes and Amanda Chandler Haynes. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. She was the widow of Ralph W. Myers and James B. Ramsey.

Surviving are her son, Clinton B. Myers of Greenville; three daughters, Doris Faye Ledford and Suphronia "Fronie" Trammell, both of Blacksburg, and Wanda Hullet of York; her sister, Martha Harris of Flagpond, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home.

Annie Sutton

MONROE, N.C. - Mrs. Annie Lee Hancy Helms Sutton, 86, of Monroe died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the Hospice House No. 1 of the Union County Hospice of Monroe.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Winchester officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park at a later date.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Sutton was the daughter of the late Vernon Morris Haney and Dara Jane Ross Haney. A retired owner and operator of the Family Health Care Homes of Monroe., She was the widow of Charles Floyd Helms and John Hall Sutton.

Surviving are her two daughters, Jane Helms Purcell of Louisville, Ky., and Grace Helms Hucks of Fort Mill; her brother, Ross Haney of Marshville, N.C.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe

Mitchell Williams

KERSHAW - Mr. Mitchell Freddie Williams, 45, of 265 Ned Williams Road died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jerry Satterfield and Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Camden, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Reece Leroy Williams and Cleatus Connell Williams. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and employed at Conbraco.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Kay Matthews Williams; his son, Bobby Bruce Williams of Kershaw; his daughter, Glenda White of Kershaw; six brothers, Bruce Williams, Jerry Williams, Derhl Williams, Wayne Williams and Howard Williams, all of Kershaw, and Robert Williams of Lancaster; two sisters, Shelby Hicks of Kershaw and Jolynn W. Farmer of Bethune; and two grandchildren.

The body was taken to the home of his daughter, Glenda White, 315 Youngs Bend Road, Kershaw, and will be taken to the church at 3 p.m. today.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, is in charge.

Margie Boatwright

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margie Williams Boatwright, 69, of 1893 Hopewell Road died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Jim Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mrs. Boatwright was the daughter of the late James T. Williams and Bonnie Barnes Williams. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Fred T. Boatwright Sr.; her son, Fred T. Boatwright of the home; two daughters, Glenda Barrentine of York and Linda Jonas of Rock Hill; her brother, Jim Williams of Salinas, Calif.; her stepbrother, "Butch" Williams of Rock Hill; two stepsisters, Carol Steele and Myra Neal of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

William Gainey

CHESTER - Mr. William Terry Gainey, 50, of 8 Elliott St. died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Disabilities and Special Needs office on Brice Street, with the Rev. Rick Mason officiating.

A native of Darlington County, Mr. Gainey was a son of Mary G. Huggins and the late Jack Laney Sr. He was employed as a service coordinator of the Chester/Lancaster Disabilities and Special Needs for the past seven years. He volunteered with St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Chester Downtown Development Association and the Old English Tourism District. He was a graduate of Hartsville High School and attended the College of Charleston. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in psychology. He also attended York Technical College.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his life partner, Mike Campbell of Chester; two brothers, Jack Gainey Jr. of Chesterfield and Charles Huggins of Patrick; three stepdaughters, Lane Patterson of Anderson, Hope Adkins of Augusta, Ga., and Lauren Jennings of Orangeburg; and four grandchildren.
