Howard Harris

GAFFNEY -"The Rev. Howard W. Harris, 75, of 907 Pondfield Road died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Mary Black Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Duncan Church of God in Duncan. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Blacksburg.

A native of Cherokee Falls, the Rev. Harris was a son of the late Henry Harris and the late Eloise Broome Harris. He was a retired minister, having pastored four churches in Wisconsin. He was a former pastor of Gaffney Pentecostal Holiness Church. Between pastorates, he was an evangelist. He was a member of the Church of the Living God in Covington, Ky., and a United States Navy World War II veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Marcella Stein Harris of the home; seven sons, Perry Harris of Tucson, Ariz., Chris Harris of Blacksburg, Howard Wayne Harris of Spartanburg, Jewels Harris of Cowpens, Jesse D. Harris of Covington, Ky., Shane Harris of Gaffney and Michael Wolf of Gaffney; two daughters, Shawn Wolf of Rock Hill and Hope Harris of Gaffney; two brothers, Gene Harris of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Dennis Harris of Cherokee Falls; two sisters, Joyce Vance of Sacramento, Calif., and Shirley Childers of York; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at White Columns Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Living God, Building Fund, 1279 Parkway Ave., Covington, KY, 41014.

Edward Austin

CHESTER - Mr. Edward Vernon Austin, 66, of 1637 Hardin Strait Road died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Sanders officiating.

A native of Watauga County, N.C., Mr. Austin was a son of the late Arthur G. Austin and Pearl Ashley Austin. He was the widower of Frances Brewer Austin. He was retired from Springs Industries and attended Chester County schools. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two brothers, Johnny Austin of Chester and Richard Austin of Rock Hill; and his sister, Joyce A. Odell of Oak Island.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Austin, 109 Maiden Lane, Chester.

Thelma Helms

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Thelma Sutton Helms, 88, of 316 Trexler Lane died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Ron Roddey officiating.

A native of Jefferson, Mrs. Helms was a daughter of the late John Sutton and Emma Hinson Sutton. She was the widow of Bob Barbee and Carl Helms. A homemaker, she was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her brother, Heyward Sutton of Rock Hill; her sister, Jewel S. Hinson of Rock Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Michael Langley

CHESTER - Mr. Michael Ross Langley, 41, of 135 Gregg Ave. died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Chapman officiating.

A native of Chester, Mr. Langley was a son of William Ross Langley of Salisbury, N.C., and Sarah Helms Langley Lanier of Chester. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and attended Chester High School.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Daniel Langley of Chester; his brother, Scott Langley of Lexington, N.C., his sister, Nancy Langley of Concord, N.C.; two stepsisters, Lisa Standridge of Salisbury and Donna Tucker of Concord; his maternal grandmother, Christine "Jenell" Helms of Chester; and his paternal grandmother, Edna Massey of Salisbury.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Barron Funeral Home,

William McManus

LANCASTER - Mr. William Calvin McManus, 73, of 212 S. Potter Road died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Joel Rhyner and Charles Rector officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Church Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. McManus was a son of the late Simon Calvin McManus and Pearl Hancock McManus and his stepmother, Bessie Montgomery McManus. A retired carpenter, he was of the Baptist faith and served in the Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Stacks McManus; his stepson, Dennis Stacks of Lancaster; four stepdaughters, Carolyn Watts, Kathy Benton, Betty Grant and Elaine Mills, all of Lancaster; his brother, Marion C. McManus of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Voncille McManus and Brenda Cody, both of Lancaster; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Walter Tiedeman Jr.

BAMBERG - Mr. Walter P. Tiedeman Jr., 91, of Bamberg died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bamberg County Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Jim Dennis officiating.

A native of Savannah, Ga., Mr. Tiedeman was a son of the late Walter P. Tiedeman Sr. and Clara Wells Tiedeman. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bamberg. A 1930 graduate of The Citadel, he was owner of Westcoat-Tiedeman Hardware Co. in Bamberg. He served as headmaster of Wade-Hampton Academy in Orangeburg and taught at Carlisle Military School in Bamberg and Orangeburg Technical School.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Brabham Tiedeman; his son, Dr. Walter P. Tiedeman III of Rock Hill; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Cooner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Trinity United Methodist Church in Bamberg.

Samuel Todd Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Joseph Todd Jr., 87, of 1330-219 India Hook Road died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William C. Pender officiating.

A native of Due West, Mr. Todd was a son of the late Samuel J. Todd Sr. and Mary Grove Todd. He was a graduate of Erskine College and George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., where he received his master's in school administration. He taught in Honea Path and Laurens schools and taught meteorology and aircraft recognition to pilots in ground school during World War II.

He founded Todd Lumber Co. in Rock Hill in 1947, City Builder Services in 1957 and later founded Todd Realty. Mr. Todd was past exalted ruler of Rock Hill Elks Lodge 1318 and received the Benjamin Trophy in 1957, a national award presented to the top Elks Lodge Ritualistic Team in the United States. He was past president of the Rock Hill Kiwanis Club and previously served as secretary of the American Red Cross Board.

He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and adult Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Neel "Neely" Milling Todd; his son, Samuel Joseph Todd III of Edisto Beach; his sister, Mary T. McGee of Starr; and his grandson.

Memorials may be made to the S.C. State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, P.O. Box 821, Columbia, SC 29202 or to Oak-land Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill SC 29730.

W.B. Wilkerson Jr.

HICKORY GROVE - Mr. W.B. "Dub" Wilkerson Jr., 81, of 3440 Irene Bridge Road died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Wilkerson was a son of the late William Beattie Wilkerson and Ora Inman Wilkerson. A retired farmer, Mr. Wilkerson also was a retired fertilizer and an insecticide inspector for Clemson Extension Service. He was appointed to the Soil and Water Conservation Board in 1947 and honored for 50 years service. He also served as chairman or board member for the state soil and water association, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Clemson Extension Service, S.C. Foundation Seed Association, S.C. Turkey Federation, York County Sales Barn Association, York County Cattleman's Association, Farmers Home Administration and an FCX advisory board. He served as trustee for York General Hospital and was on the Clemson Board of Visitors.

He was given the Conservationist of the Year Award in 1967, the Distinguished Service Award and the Wildlife Federation's Land Conservation Award in 1986, the Clemson's Balanced Farming Award in 1954 and the Co-op Man of the Year in 1968.

Mr. Wilkerson was a Mason and received his 50-year pin from Masonic Lodge 289 Palmetto in Sharon and a Shriner with Hejaz Temple in Greenville. He was 22nd Masonic District Master Mason of the Year in 1999.

A member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, he was a lay speaker and taught the men's Bible class.

Surviving are his wife, Erline Black Wilkerson; his son, Bill Stroud of Matthews, N.C.; his brother, Roy Wilkerson of Hickory Grove; five sisters, Carolyn Wilkerson Chandler, Gladys Wilkerson Suttles and Jenelle Wilkerson Rhodes, all of Hickory Grove, Nancy Wilkerson Sherer of Sharon and Virginia Wilkerson Allen of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Frank Catterton

NEWPORT, Ky. - Mr. Frank Catterton, 65, of Newport died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at St. Luke East Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at TLC Burial and Cremation Service. Internment will be at Linden Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Catterton was a cab driver for Newport Yellow Cab for 25 years.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Catterton; three sons, Frank Catterton Jr. of Newport, and Danny Catterton and Nick Catterton, both of Clover; two daughters, Sherry Ostwalt of Clover and Terrie Robinson of Rock Hill; four stepdaughters, Jennifer Jacobs of Newport, Angie Megerle and Patricia Howland, both of Covington, Ky., and Kathy Winkle of Butler, Ky.; three stepsons, David Robinson of Covington, Michael Stratton of Butler and Robert Stratton of Florence, Ky; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the TLC Burial and Cremation Service.

Virginia Hardin

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Virginia "Jenny" White Hardin, 73, of 507 W. Cherokee St. died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Broad River Baptist Church, with the Revs. Norman Philbeck, Clarence Hampton and Eddie Bolin officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

A native of Gaffney, Mrs. Hardin was a daughter of the late Jessie James White and Florence Hampton White. She was a member of Broad River Baptist Church and was a retired textile worker and hostess at Hardees.

Surviving are her husband, Hubert Hardin; her son, Jeff Hardin of Blacksburg; her brother, Dan White of Inman; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gordon Mortuary.

James Hollis

MONROE, N.C. -"Mr. James Leon Hollis, 78, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Greene Funeral Home chapel. Entombment will be at Grandview Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hollis was a son of the late Mason Hollis and Kate Garrison Hollis. He was a retired safety officer at a shipyard in Virginia and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Lee Hollis; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home.

Lillie Mae McDonald

KERSHAW - Mrs. Lillie Mae Brannon McDonald, 88, of 507 W. Hilton St. died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Shamrock Baptist Church, with the Revs. Odell Sullivan and Kevin Hinton officiating. Burial will be at Scotch Cemetery.

A native of Bethune, Mrs. McDonald was a daughter of the late James Arthur Brannon and Martha Alma Blackwell Brannon.

Surviving are three sons, Arthur Malcolm McDonald and Freddie Franklin McDonald, both of Greenville, and Steve Conway McDonald of Fort Lawn; her daughter, Margie Cardias of Kershaw; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home.

William Knight

LANCASTER - Mr. William Ferris Knight, 65, of 1381 McIlwain Road died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Springhill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Towler officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Knight was a son of the late William Woodrow Knight and Bertha Sistare Knight. He was a retired Lancaster County employee and was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Ollie "Totsy" Massey Knight; two daughters, Patricia Lucas Price of Mooresville, N.C., and Mitzi K. Snipes of Lancaster; two brothers, Vann C. Knight and Glen W. Knight, both of Lancaster; two sisters, Ellen K. Wallace and Dianne K. Hegler, both of Lancaster; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Robert McCutcheon

ROCK HILL -"Mr. Robert C. "Sonny" McCutcheon, 63, of Charlotte, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at All Saints Mission Catholic Church in the River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. Ed McDevitt and Deacon Al Koch officiating. Burial will be at River Hills Community Church cemetery.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. McCutcheon was a son of the late Robert C. McCutcheon and Elvira Ruth Miller McCutcheon. He was a U.S. Army and a U.S. Naval Reserve veteran. He was a volunteer firefighter, and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Rotary Club and the board of directors of the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Michalski; his son, Michael McCutcheon; his daughter, Carrie Reiter; his brother, Fred McCutcheon; three sisters, Peggy Koch, Gail Bell and Mary Beth May; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville, N.C. chapel.
