Louise Carpenter

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Louise Yongue Carpenter, 86, of Fort Lawn died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Morningside Assisted Living Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Lawn Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Kenneth Barnes, John Rumford and Neil Yongue officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Carpenter was a daughter of the late Neil Malone Yongue Sr. and Sally Kirkpatrick Yongue. She was the widow of Carroll Carpenter.

A retired registered nurse who worked at Chester County Hospital, she was a member of Fort Lawn Presbyterian Church, Fort Lawn Senior Citizens and Harmony Church Seniors.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of the Rev. John and Sara Rumford, 5820 Willowbrook Road, Fort Lawn.

Memorials may be made to Fort Lawn Presbyterian Church, 5208 Lancaster Highway, Fort Lawn, SC 29714.

Mamie Ferguson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mamie Ferguson of 376-A Workman St. died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Shuler officiating. Burial will be at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Ferguson was a daughter of the late Robert Ferguson and Addie Dunlap Ferguson.

She attended public schools in Chester County and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, serving on the stewardess board, as president of the usher board and as a church chairwoman. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Club.

Surviving are two sons, John Ferguson of Rock Hill and John Kenneth Massey of Chester; two brothers, Henry Wylie of Rock Hill and Joe Louis of Landsford; three sisters, Ruth Morrow and Julia Mae Tate, both of Grant Tuncy, N.C., and Dorothy Moore of Maryland; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home and from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday.

Carol Hartman

YORK - Mrs. Carol Nahoun Hartman, 57, of 172 Jordon Drive died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4:30 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas McPhail officiating.

A native of New York City, Mrs. Hartman was a daughter of Albert Nahoun and Fannie Foreman Nahoun.

She was a homemaker and worked with the deaf in public schools in Florida and North Carolina.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley Hartman; three sons, Andrew Hartman and Howard Hartman, both of Charlotte, and Larry Hartman of Madison, Wis.; her daughter, Shari Hartman Strickland of Rock Hill; her brother, Martin Nahoun of New York City; and two grandchildren.

Eula Richards

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Eula Rogers Richards, 80, of 904 Union Hope Road died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Century Care.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Odell Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of Fannin County, Ga., Mrs. Richards was a daughter of the late Burl Rogers and Elizabeth Rogers.

Surviving are her husband, Millard Richards; her son, Robert Richards of Lake Wylie; her daughter, Vivian Reese of Gastonia; two brothers, Raymond Rogers and Don Rogers, both of Fannin County; her sister, Leo Nicholson of Fannin County; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

Vivian Catoe

KERSHAW - Mrs. Vivian Twitty Catoe, 85, formerly of Kershaw, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Catoe was a daughter of the late Peter Marion Twitty and Lula Dixon Twitty.

Retired from Springs Industries, she was a member of Second Baptist Church and Kershaw Senior Citizens.

Surviving are two sons, Billy Joe Catoe and Earl F. Catoe, both of Lancaster; her daughter, Ellen C. Horton of Heath Springs; her sister, Lillian Mosley of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ellen and Cecil Horton, 6384 Flat Rock Road, Heath Springs.

Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 7737 Kershaw-Camden High-way, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, is in charge.

Wilma Flynn

LANCASTER - Mrs. Wilma Lillian McManus Flynn, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Della Sparks officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Flynn was a daughter of the late Otis V. McManus and Dora E. Baker McManus. She was the widow of Charlie Smith Flynn.

Retired from Springs Industries, she was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Conrad "Dock" Flynn of Honea Path; two daughters, Sylvia Steele of Lancaster and Margie Horton of Camden; two sisters, Gertie Flynn and Connie Williams, both of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren and her great-great-stepgrandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home Sylvia Steele, 1058 Hilldale Drive, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 4146 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

James Heath

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Lewis Heath, 51, of 618 South Stonewall St. died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony United Methodist Church in Edgemoor, with the Rev. Robert Shuler officiating and the Rev. B.B. Wilson assisting. Burial will be at Harmony Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Heath was a son of the late Willie B. Heath Sr. and Leomi Pride Heath.

A veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Korea, he attended public schools in Chester County and worked at Austin Insulation and Austin Pest Control. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and attended Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Surviving are his brother, Donald Heath of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Kathleen Robinson of Rock Hill and Dorothy A. Stewart of Winston-Salem, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 tonight at Parker Funeral Home.

Minnie Knight

LANCASTER - Mrs. Minnie Ottis Deese Knight, 74, of 4564 S. Wyck Road died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Benny Green officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Knight was a daughter of the late Mr. Dewey Deese and Hennie Deese. She was a member of Indian Land Baptist Church and was retired from Cone Mills in Pineville, N.C. Mrs. Knight was the widow of William Knight.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Hinson of Lancaster; three sisters, Ferris Bowers of Kershaw and Jewel Neal and Pam Lucas, both of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home of Nancy Hinson, 642 Bay Lane, Lancaster.

Edna Lipford

CHESTER - Mrs. Edna Cornwell Lipford, 79, of 3131 W. Chester School Road died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Chester Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Sealy and Robert Craven officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Lipford was a daughter of the late Burroughs Cornwell and Marie Cornwell. She attended Chester County schools and was retired from Springs Industries. Mrs. Lipford was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the VFW, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 15. She was the widow of Guy Lipford.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Earl of Chester; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Mary Mobley

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Louise Hook Mobley, 78, of Dunlap St. died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Gene Rollins and the Rev. Gene Ghent officiating.

A native of Richland County, Mrs. Mobley was a retired sales associate for Sears and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Columbia.

Surviving are her husband, Heyward Mobley; her brother, James Hook of Columbia; two stepdaughters, Doris Robertson of Liberty Hill and Sandra Brazell of Charlotte; and five stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Paul Stevenson

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Paul Stevenson, 67, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Chester County Hospital in Chester.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elizabeth Heights Cemetery in Great Falls, with the Rev. Michael Golden officiating.

Mr. Stevenson was a son of the late Nathan Stevenson and Emma Williams Stevenson.

A plumber, he attended public schools in Great Falls and attended church in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are his daughter, Felicia Hudson of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Nadine Culp of Great Falls and Margie Johnson of Charlotte; two brothers, John Stevenson of High Point, N.C., and Nathaniel Stevenson of Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home.

Velma Jordan

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Velma C. Jordan, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jamie Armstrong and Elizabeth Graves officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Jordan was a daughter of the late James F. Collins and Eva Anthony Collins. She was the widow of Raymond L. Jordan. Mrs. Jordan was a seamstress and was a member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Dick Jordan of Rock Hill and Scott Jordan Sr. of Charlotte; her brother, Jack Collins of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Southern Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28202 or Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church Youth Fund, 501 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.

James Small Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Harold Small Jr., 59, of 744 Briarcliff Road died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Small was a son of Gladys Smith Small and the late James H. Small Sr. He was a retired automobile salesman and was of Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, James H. Small III of Rock Hill and Anthony Small and Stephen Small, both of Stockton, Calif.; his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Stutts of Douglasville, Ga.; two brothers, Rick Small of Rock Hill and Kimer Small of Wadena, Minn.; his sister, Linda Small of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church of one's choice.
