Milton Stalls Sr.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Milton Guy Stalls Sr., 65, of 298 Catawba Road died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Winnsboro.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Bradley officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Pitt County, N.C., Mr. Stalls was a son of the late Daniel Stalls and Bertha Stalls.

He formerly was employed with J.P. Stevens Co. and attended Pitt County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Delores Stalls; three sons, Milton Stalls Jr. of Lancaster, William Stalls of Camden and Keith Stalls of Great Falls; two daughters, Shirley Gallman of Lancaster and Bonnie Wiles of Brevard, N.C.; four brothers, Bruton Stalls of Bradington, Fla., Dewey Stalls of Blounts Creek, N.C., Earl Stalls of Halifax, N.C., and John Stalls of Oxford, N.C.; four sisters, Earsie Boone of Greenville, Tenn., Hazel Reid of Tarboro, N.C., Christine Whitehead of Emporia, Va., and Linda Robbins of Clover; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Joseph Snyder Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Joseph Louis Snyder Jr., 68, of 1517 Riverview Road died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The memorial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with the Rev. William Shytle officiating.

A native of Cumberland, Md., Mr. Snyder was a son of the late Joseph Louis Snyder Sr. and Ruth Virginia Hite Snyder.

He was a retired driver-dispatch supervisor for Celanese Trucking Division and also was employed by Snyder Corporation in Lexington.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Martson Snyder; his son, Jeffery L. Snyder of Rock Hill; his daughter, Joi Marie S. Byers of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Suzanne Griffin of Rock Hill; his brother, G. Thomas Snyder Sr. of Lexington; three grandchildren; and his step-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, and other times at the home of Brad and Joi Byers, 829 Cammie Jordan Lane.

Richard Talbert

LANCASTER - Mr. Richard Jackson "Jack" Talbert, 68, of 2179 Flat Creek Road died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster, with the Rev. Kenneth Wren officiating. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Talbert was a son of the late H.N. Talbert and Cora Talbert. He was a retired security guard for Springs Industries' Customer Service Center and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

James Parrish

During his life, Jim Parrish served Clover in a variety of ways: as mayor, as chairman of the school board and as an organizer of the town's rescue squad and youth sports.

Parrish, 84, of 503 Bethel St. died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

"He was a good, wholesome citizen of Clover who was interested in all aspects of life," said Jim Owen, former publisher of Carolina Newspapers Inc., which owns the Clover Herald. "He loved Clover."

Parrish served as the town's mayor from 1981 to 1983. Upon leaving office, he listed several of his administration's accomplishments.

"We started the two-hour parking limit downtown and the offstreet parking. We got two wells back in operation ... We started a purchasing system based on competitive bids which has brought us great savings."

A native of York County, Parrish was a son of the late Dennis Parrish and Jennie Parrish.

He was a member of the Clover Presbyterian Church and was a Sunday School teacher in area churches and nursing homes for 65 years. He had a perfect attendance record at Sunday school for 41 years. He helped organize Little League and midget sports in the town of Clover. He was a retired textile executive from Ti-Caro in Gastonia, N.C., and was an avid golfer and fisherman.

Surviving are his son, Harry Parrish of Clover; three daughters, Shannon Amick and Becky Redmond, both of Clover, and Linda Spooner of Greenville; his brother, Paul Parrish of Damascus, Va.; his sister, Ruby Falls of Clover; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodside Cemetery, with the Revs. William Neely and Paul Hutchison officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

Robert Crump

FORT MILL - Mr. Robert E. Lee Crump, 84, of 1241 Camp Cox Circle died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Benny Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineville, N.C., city cemetery.

A native of Pineville, Mr. Crump was a son of the late Fred Crump and the late Bertie Hargett Crump. A truck driver, he retired after 26 years with Johnson Motor Line. He was a member of Indian Land Baptist Church. During World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Engineers, Heavy Equipment Division in the Philippines and in Japan. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 43 and a lifetime member of the VFW, Fort Mill Post No. 9138.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Mae Reavis Crump of Lancaster; two daughters, Betty Jo Mays of Camden and Barbara L. Kropp of Atlanta; two brothers, Billy Ward Crump and Bryant Crump, both of Fort Mill; three sisters, Dot Keeffe, Sarah Fisher and Idell Chapplear, all of Fort Mill; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 today at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home of his niece, Freida Adkins, 10912 Old Pettus Road, Fort Mill.

Memorials may be made to Indian Land Baptist Church, 7583 Charlotte Highway, Fort Mill, SC 29715 or to the charity of one's church.

Mamie Ferguson

ROCK HILL - Ms. Mamie Ferguson of 376-A Workman St. died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Shuler officiating. Burial will be at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Ms. Ferguson was a daughter of the late Robert Ferguson and Addie Dunlap Ferguson.

She attended public schools in Chester County and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, serving on the stewardess board, as vice president of the usher board and as a church chairwoman. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Club.

Surviving are two sons, John Ferguson of Rock Hill and John Kenneth Massey of Chester; two brothers, Henry Wylie of Rock Hill and Joe Louis Dunham of Landsford; three sisters, Ruth Morrow and Julia Mae Tate, both of Granite Quarry, N.C., and Dorothy Moore of Mary-land; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday.

Sammie Givens

CLOVER - Mr. Sammie Givens, 60, of 105 Hilltop Lane died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. George Lowry officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Surviving are his son, David McCoy Givens of Charlotte; three brothers, Alexander Givens of York, J.W. Givens and Lewis Givens, both of Charlotte; and two sisters, Elizabeth Culverson of Charlotte and Sarah Sanders of Gastonia, N.C.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home in York.

Minnie Knight

LANCASTER - Mrs. Minnie Ottis Deese Knight, 74, of 4564 S. Wyck Road died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster chapel, with the Rev. Benny Green officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Knight was a daughter of the late Dewey Deese and Hennie Deese. She was a member of Indian Land Baptist Church and was retired from Cone Mills in Pineville, N.C. She was the widow of William Knight.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Hinson of Lancaster; three sisters, Johnnie Bowers of Kershaw and Jewel Neal and Pam Lucas, both of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Vick Helms Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Vick Caldwell Helms Sr., 71, of 265 Charles Pettus Road died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Revs. John K. Pressley and Steve Jacks officiating.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Helms was a son of the late Kenneth F. Helms and Lula June Broome Helms. He served as a staff sergeant in Co. B 10th Engineers in the Korean War, where he earned the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 43 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9138. He worked as a doffer, fixer and head overhauler for Springs Industries for 28 years.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy W. Helms; his son, Vick C. Helms Jr. of Catawba; four daughters, Rita McManus of Chester, Terry Hilton of Lancaster, Debbie Connelly of Fort Lawn and Patsy Langley of Fort Mill; his sister, Stella Caudle of Polkton, N.C.; four brothers, Tim "Doc" Helms and Charlie Helms, both of Chester, Theodore Helms of Fort Mill and Luke "Red" Helms of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Wolfe Funeral Home after the service and at other times at the home.

Nell Lavigne

HEATH SPRINGS - Mrs. Nell Rae Hinson Lavigne, 73, formerly of Heath Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Lexington Medical Center Extended Care in Lexington.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Feagin officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Heath Springs.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Lavigne was a daughter of the late Donald M. Hinson and Idell Mobley Hinson. She was a retired registered nurse, having worked at Columbia Hospital and the University of South Carolina Infirmary and was a member of the Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia.

Surviving are her son, Raymond Lavigne of Irmo; her daughter, Cindy Gibson of Pelion; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Edna Lipford

CHESTER - Mrs. Edna Cornwell Lipford, 79, of 3131 W. Chester School Road died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Chester Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Sealy and Robert Craven officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Lipford was a daughter of the late Burroughs Cornwell and Marie Cornwell. She attended Chester County schools and was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the VFW, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 15. She was the widow of Guy Lipford.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Carter of Chester; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

CHESTER - Mr. Willie "Bill" Mack, 73, of Chester County Nursing Center, formerly of 522 Denton St., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul F. Long officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Mack was the son of the late Sammy Mack and Edna Feaster Mack. He was a former employee of Chester Ice and Fuel Co., and he was retired from Pabst Blue Ribbon Co. of Rock Hill. He was of the Baptist faith. He attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Rosa Mae Mack; three sons, Willie Mack Jr., Jimmy Mack and Alonzo Terry Mack, all of Chester; four daughters, Doris Smith of Florence, Diane Mack Super and Yvonne Johnson, both of Chester, and Vicky Mack Neal of Charlotte; two brothers, Walter Mack of Chester and William Mack of Melbourne, Fla., 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 522 Denton St. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. today.

Lois Mullis

YORK - Mrs. Lois Martin Mullis, 97, formerly of Cameron Road, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Bozard officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in York County, Mrs. Mullis was a daughter of the late George Calhoun Martin and Ida Kincaid Martin. The oldest member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church, she was a former dietitian for the Children's Home of North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was the widow of Luther J. Mullis.

Surviving are two sons, Melvin J. Mullis of Clover and Leon B. Mullis of York; her daughter, Ruth Mullis Conley of Rock Hill; her half-brother, Albert Martin of Clover; two half-sisters, Cornelia Neelands and Mary Perkins, both of Clover; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.
