Almeda Steele

GREENWOOD - Mrs. Almeda Thompson Steele, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill, with the Revs. Dr. Robert Shrum and David Corbitt officiating.

A native of Horry County, Mrs. Steele was a daughter of the late Alexander P. Thompson and Helan Bellamy Thompson. She was the widow of William T. "Bill" Steele Jr. She graduated from the Fennell Infirmary School of Nursing in Rock Hill in 1928. She worked in Rock Hill hospitals and served as a private duty nurse for many years until her retirement. She was a former member of the York County Private Duty Nurses Association and was a charter member of Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Carter of Greenwood; her son, William T. Steele Jr. of Rock Hill; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Scott and Jennifer Ellenburg, 2013 Ashworth Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Oakland Baptist Church, 1067 Oak-land Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732 or to the building fund of South Main Street Baptist Church, 1000 S. Main St., Greenwood, SC 29649.

Willis Yoder

HICKORY, N.C. - Mr. Willis Reed Yoder, 64, of Wilkies Grove Church Road died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital in Oteen, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bible Gospel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Harold Ward and Marty Bess officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Catawba County, Mr. Yoder was a son of the late William McKinley Yoder and Thirsie Young Yoder. He was a member of Bible Gospel Baptist Church. He was a truck driver with Lane Upholstery and a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are two sons, William Terry Bumgarner and Jeffrey Reed Yoder, both of Hickory; four daughters, Susie Harris of Rock Hill, Vicki Huffman and Karen Yoder, both of Hickory, and Sharon Yoder of the home; four brothers, Beauford Lindsay of Connelly Springs, N.C., and Daryl Yoder, Kenneth Yoder and Colin Yoder, all of Hickory; four sister, Pauline Alley and Irene Sain, both of Hickory, Olive Crow of Norcross, Ga., and Blaka Abee of Connelly Springs, N.C.; his former wife, Meryl Bostain of Hickory; eight grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Hickory Funeral Home.

Raymond Bumgardner

ROCK HILL -"Mr. Raymond Bumgardner, 63, of 255 Cherry Road. died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at home.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bobby Costner officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Bumgardner was a son of the late John and Flossie Bumgardner. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from Winn-Dixie's warehouse in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Jean Frye Bumgardner; his son, Billy Rainey of Rock Hill; two daughters, Michelle Bumgardner of Rock Hill and Janet Bumgardner of Virginia; his brother, James Bumgardner of Charlotte; two sisters, Martha B. Canipe of Rock Hill and Gertrude B. Shaver of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Della Elarbee

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Della Deese Elarbee, 89, formerly of Fort Mill, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Elarbee was a daughter of the late Hile Deese and Ada Griffin Deese. She was the widow of Charles Riley Elarbee. She was retired from Springs Industries with more than 50 years service.

Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine Turbyfill Amick of Lexington and Jean Turbyfill Casico of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

FORT MILL - Mr. Neal Albert Jennings, 85, of 9139 Possum Hollow Road died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Higher Ground Church with the Revs. Steve Jacks and Benny Green officiating. Burial will be at Indian Land Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Jennings was a son of the late Lonnie Banks and Addie Mary Felts Jennings. He served in the National Guard and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Moore Jennings of Indian Land; two sons, Ronnie B. Jennings and James R. Jennings, both of Indian Land; three daughters, Lila Merritt, Mary Neal Perkins and Nancy St. Clair, all of Indian Land; his brother, John Wesley Jennings of Fort Mill; his sister, Lib Rowell of Fort Mill; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Nancy St. Clair, 9123 Possum Hollow Road, Fort Mill.

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Ruth Hobbs Fowler, 89, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at White Oak Estates.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia, N.C., with the Rev. Dr. George L. McGill officiating.

A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of the late Walter D. Hobbs and Mary Ellen Freeman Hobbs. She was the widow of Wesley C. Fowler. A graduate of Queens College, Mrs. Fowler was secretary to former Gov. Greg Cherry of North Carolina. She also served as a secretary with Pritchard Paint and Glass Co. and First Baptist Church of Dunn, N.C. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg.

Surviving are her stepson, Dr. Wesley C. Fowler Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her stepdaughter, Janice F. Mayhew of Charlotte; three nieces; her nephew; and five step-grandchildren.

Ada Gardner

CLOVER - Mrs. Ada "Peggy" Shirley Gardner, 77, of 620 Thomas Road died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Brian Center in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alan Morrow officiating. Burial will be at Bethany ARP Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Gardner was a daughter of the late Cleveland Preston Shirley and Ada Enola Davis Shirley. She was the widow of Jeffrey Thornwell Gardner.

Surviving are her son, Fred Gardner of Clover; her sister, Nell S. Stewart of Clover; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Kenneth "Kenny" Kitts, 19, of 1337 Red Oak Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point, N.C.

A funeral Mass will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro, N.C. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Park.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Marc and Ann Kitts of the home; his mother and stepfather, Dawn and Tommy Kogutkiewicz of Greensboro; his brother, David Kitts of the home; his sister, Elizabeth Kitts of Clover; and his grandparents, Floride P. Kitts and Bill and Nina Williams, all of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry, North Elm Chapel, Greensboro, and at other times at the home of Bill and Nina Williams, 205 Waverly Way, Greensboro.

Blaine McCants Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Blaine Clark McCants Jr., 38, of High Point, N.C., died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Carlos Gardner officiating.

Born in Richland County, Mr. McCants was a son of Blaine Clark McCants Sr. and Ann Marshall McCants, both of Florence. He received his bachelor of arts degree in history, did graduate work at Winthrop University in Rock Hill and was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Florence.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, is his sister, Vera Ellyn "Lynn" McCants of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends at the home of his uncle, Charles Marshall, 2531 Kershaw Camden Highway, Lancaster.

Rosa Pittman

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Rosa Mae Martin Pittman, 72, of 1136 Evans St. died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Gallant Church of God, with the Rev. Dennis Buchanan officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw County, Mrs. Pittman was a daughter of the late Lee Martin and Alice Jordan Martin. She was the widow of W.B. Pittman. She was retired from Springs Industries, Fort Mill plant, and was a member of Mount Gallant Church of God.

Surviving are six sons, Jerry Pittman of York, Jimmy Pittman, Tommy Pittman and David Pittman, all of Rock Hill, Mark Pittman of Catawba and Homer Jacobs of Atlanta; two daughters, Billie Vogel of Rock Hill and Shirley Moss of Fort Mill; four brothers, Alfred Martin and Ivy E. Martin, both of Columbia, Lee Martin of Rock Hill and Alva Martin of Fort Mill; her sister, Bernice Cline of Columbia; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Eudora Maloney Rhodes, 84, of 1349 Winthrop Drive died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First ARP Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Sharon ARP Church cemetery in Sharon.

A native of Sharon, Mrs. Rhodes was a daughter of the late James Martin and Juliann Jemima Plexico Maloney. She was a member and sang in the choir at First ARP Church for 40 years. Mrs. Rhodes was retired from Rock Hill Telephone Co.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Herman Rhodes; her daughter, Patricia Ann Smith of Rock Hill; her sister, Arlene Marett of Rock Hill; three grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

SHELBY, N.C. - Mr. Arnold "Jatter" Tritt, 83, of 1300 S. Morgan St. died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.

The funeral was Thursday at Lily Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Arnold and the Rev. Marion Adams officiating. Burial was at Sunset Cemetery.

A native of Cleveland County, N.C., Mr. Tritt was a son of the late Charlie Tritt and Jessie Johnson Tritt. Mr. Tritt was a retired shipping clerk at Lily Mill. He was an Air Force veteran and member of the Lily Old Timers Club.

Surviving are his wife, Lizzie Davis Tritt; his son, Wayne Tritt of Mint Hill, N.C.; his brother, Dick Tritt of Rock Hill; his half-brother, C.L. Tritt of Rock Hill; his half-sister, Elizabeth Humphries of Cliffside, N.C.; three grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Mrs. Cynthia Ellen Falls Biggers, 87, of Newport News, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Biggers was a daughter of the late Marshall Ravenel Falls and Belle Mullinax Falls. She was the widow of H. Barry Biggers. A homemaker, she was an active church member and participated in civic affairs.

Surviving are her daughter, Betty B. Russell of Yorktown, Va.; her brother, Roy E. Falls of Clover; her sister, Annie Mae Moore of Gastonia, N.C.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
