Vernelle Bruce

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Vernelle Duncan Bruce died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Tucker Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wood Mortuary in Greer. Burial will be private at Taylor's First Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Bruce was a daughter of the late Lawrence Wilbur Duncan and Evia Sarah Fisher Duncan. She was the widow of the Rev. W. Trenton Bruce.

Surviving are her son, W. Trenton Bruce Jr. of Fort Mill; her daughter, Debbie Mullen of Elgin; three sisters, Inez Duncan Green of Easley, and Grace Duncan Simmons and Carrel Duncan Gilstrap, both of Greenville; two brothers, Jack E. Duncan and Clyde W. Duncan, both of Taylors.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary after the service and at other times at the home of W. Bernard and Grace Simmons, 722 Cleveland St., Greenville.

Thurman Carnes

KERSHAW - The Rev. Thurman Carnes, 79, of 5589-A Lockhart Road died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Buffalo Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Morris and Bill Drees officiating. Burial will follow at the Buffalo Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Pageland, the Rev. Carnes was a son of the late John Carnes and Ozella Wright Carnes. He attended Wingate Junior College and Southern Theological Seminary and was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a member of the Abney Lodge 211 as well as the Bethune Lion's Club.

The Rev. Carnes pastored at numerous churches including Calvary Baptist Church of Rock Hill, New Hope Baptist Church of Rock Hill and Liberty Baptist Church of Chester.

Surviving are his wife Geraldine Horne Carnes; two daughters, Carol C. Alford of Batesburg and Janice C. Scott of Kershaw; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church of International Mission Board S.B.C.

Thomas Haley

COLUMBUS, Ind. -"Capt. Thomas Bradley Haley, 92, formerly of Rock Hill, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Four Seasons Retirement Home in Columbus, Ind.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, Tenn., with the Rev. W.L. Baker officiating.

A native of Smith County, Tenn., Mr. Haley was a son of the late Albert Clair and Birdie Pryor Haley. He was a U.S. Navy aviator who served for 36 years. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

Mr. Haley was the widower of Helen Newton Haley.

Surviving are his son, David Newton, of Houston; two daughters, Betty Haley Haven of Columbus, Ind., and Nancy Haley Kerns of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandsons; and his great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Ligon and Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, 1067 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29731 or to Hospice of Bartholomew County, 2400 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201.

Ruby Horton

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Mrs. Ruby Dover Horton, 60, of 2114 Mesa Grande Lane died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Baptist Beaches Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bratton Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Tommy Hope officiating. Burial will be at Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery in Sharon.

A native of York, Mrs. Horton was a daughter of the late Tom Dover and Rachel Childers Dover. She was assistant manager of Dry-Cleaners in Jacksonville, Fla.

Surviving are her husband, Jimmy Horton; four sons, Edward Ivey of Spartanburg and Roger Ivey, Robert Ivey and Christ White, all of York; her daughter, Barbara Rose of Clover; her brother, Charlie Dover of Clover; her sister, Nancy Chappell of Clover; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Clyde Talbert

LANCASTER - Mr. Clyde Dennis "Tally" Talbert, 49, of 3382 Cedar Circle died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Freedom Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mitch Ingram and David Anders officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Talbert was a son of Pearlie Mae Faulkenberry Talbert of Lancaster and Kirby Lewis "Bud" Talbert. He was a member of the Freedom Freewill Church. He was employed by Jim Lineburger Construction Co. as an asphalt quality control technician.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Patsy S. Talbert; his son, Maxie Talbert of Lancaster; his daughter, Amy Franceschelli of Lancaster; three step-daughters, Melissa Ervin and Angie Freeman, both of Fort Mill, and Tina Humphries of Stanley, N.C.; three sisters, Terry Sanders of Chester, Teresa Talbert of Spartanburg and Lynn Horton of Lancaster; two grandchildren; and his step grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Patsy S. Talbert, 3382 Cedar Circle, Lancaster.

Cecelia Davis

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Cecelia Price Davis, 82, of Tucker Center, formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at the center.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte, with the Rev. Tim Tomlinson officiating.

A native of Bamberg, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late E.B. Price and Evelyn Brabham Price. A retired nurse, she worked at hospitals in South Carolina, West Virginia and New York. She was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia.

Surviving are two sisters, Margaret P. Wright of Columbia and Ernestine P. Teal of Chapin.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon today at Greene Funeral Home.

Louise Lee

CHESTER - Mrs. Louise Shedd Lee, 85, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Revs. Donald Scoggins and Gregg Keller officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Lee was a daughter of the late James Shedd and Irene Brakefield Shedd. She was the widow of Barnett Lee. A homemaker, Mrs. Lee was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and attended senior citizen activities at First Church of the Nazarene in Chester. She attended the Chester County schools.

Surviving are her stepdaughter, Nancy Clements of Lancaster; her stepson, Sparkford Lee of North Carolina; her sister, Beulah Linkletter of Chester; and two step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Estelle Patterson

FORT MILL - Mrs. Estelle Land Patterson, 85, formerly of Forrest Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. George Dye and the Rev. Benny Wade officiating.

A native of Rockingham County, N.C., Mrs. Patterson was a daughter of the late John R. Land and Minnie Carter Land. She was the widow of Lewis H. Patterson. Mrs. Patterson was retired from the Fort Mill Junior High School lunchroom. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving is her son, Tony Patterson of Pickens.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Ted Rushing Sr.

YORK - Mr. Ted Martin Rushing Sr., 64, of 1813 Lincoln Road died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Mint Hill, N.C., Mr. Rushing was a son of the late Pearly T. Rushing and Vera Louise Stillwell Rushing. He was owner and operator of Jar Inc. in York and also worked in heating and air conditioning. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Faye Patterson Rushing; three sons, Marty Rushing of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Keith Rushing and Robert Rushing, both of York; two daughters, Debbie Rushing Gallaway of Gastonia, N.C., and Linda Rushing Rucker of Harrisburg, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

James Barron

ROCK HILL - Mr. James William "Jim" Barron, 70, of 1091 Farm Pond Lane died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Glencairn Garden, with the Rev. Mariam Mick.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Barron was a retired industrial engineer with General Electric in Fort Wayne, Ind., and formerly was employed with BB bank in Charlotte. He was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are his wife, Lucretia "Corkey" M. Barron; his son, James W. Barron III of Phoenix; his daughter, Vicki Barron Stewart of Rock Hill; his sister, Audrey Stoltz of Bellbrook, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

Mack Freeman Jr.

CLOVER - Mr. Mack Freeman Jr., 73, of 321 Quarterhorse Road died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Greg Thompson officiating.

A native of Monroe, N.C., Mr. Freeman was a son of the late Mack Freeman Sr. and Betty Morris Freeman. He was a retired driver with Veteran's Cab in Rock Hill and an Army veteran of World War II. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are three sons, Freddie Lee Freeman and Donnie Junior Freeman, both of Clover, and James Grady "Rocky" Freeman of Rock Hill; his daughter, Linda Dianne Freeman Wilson of Rock Hill; three sisters, Betty Ruth Freeman, Gertie Mae Freeman Robinson and Ethel Freeman, all of Charlotte; his former wife, Reba Etta Croft Freeman; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home.

James Henry

LANCASTER - Mr. James David Henry, 57, of 2640 Norfolk Road died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Pineville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas J. Herin officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at National Cemetery in Beaufort.

A native of Alexandria, Minn., Mr. Henry was a son of Raymond G. Henry and June Frances White Henry of Mesa, Ariz. He was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church and was retired from the Army after 231/2 years of service.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Claudia R. Henry; his son, Michael Patrick Henry of Lancaster; two daughters, Janet Barker of Sumter and Diane Mozak of Houston; two brothers, Neal Henry and Richard Henry, both of Phoenix; his sister, Beverly Laine of Mesa; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends at the home of Claudia R. Henry, 2640 Norfolk Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Ronald Newton

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Ronald Edward Newton, 60, of Charlotte died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Raymer Funeral Home, with the Revs. Jack Homlsey and Trudy Chandler officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Community Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, he was a son of the Ola Isom Newton and the late Harvey P. Newton. He attended Rock Hill schools and served in the Navy. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Surviving are his wife, LeRhea Holloman Newton; his son, Philip Newton of Wingate, N.C.; his stepson, Donny Drenning of Charlotte; his daughter, Ronda Newton of Houston; his stepdaughter, Delly Newsom of Huntersville, N.C.; and five sisters, Betty Elkins and Peggy Quinn, both of Rock Hill, Helen McAteer and Cynde Johnson, both of Chester, and Ann Connolly of York.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3109 Popular Wood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, NC 27604.

Clara Robinson

CATAWBA - Mrs. Clara Ferguson Robinson, 89, of 5476 Howze Road died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. J.E. Johnson officiating and the Rev. Lavenia Pride assisting. Burial will be at Mount Zion AME Zion Church cemetery in Lands-ford.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late Marion Ferguson and Mamie Ferguson. She was the widow of Otis M. Robinson Sr. She was a member of Mount Vernon AME Zion Church in Fort Lawn. She was a former member of the AP Society and attended the public schools of Chester County.

Surviving are three sons, M.J. Robinson of Rock Hill and Otis Robinson Jr. and Roosevelt Robinson, both of Baltimore; two daughters, Mamie Lee Matthews of the home and Clara Etta Davis of Catawba; a grandson whom she reared, Edward Louis Robinson of Baltimore; 30 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home. The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral.
