Marion Yarnell

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Mrs. Marion S. Yarnell, 80, of Delray Beach, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be at Boynton Beach Cemetery.

Surviving are her son, Arthur "Dick" Yarnell of York; two daughters, Patsy Joffrion of Pinkney, Mich., and Dorothy Moody of Delray Beach; her brother, Charles Simpson of Knoxville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Alexander

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruby Lynch Alexander, 82, of 1161 Candlelight Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with Chaplain Miriam Mick officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of Bessemer City, N.C., Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of the late Marshall Lynch and Bessie Jonas Lynch. A homemaker, she was the widow of Glenn William Alexander.

Surviving are her brother, Wilburn Lynch of Spartanburg; her grandson, Burt Ferguson of Rock Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the family members respective homes.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Alexander Baxter

CLOVER - Mr. Alexander C. Baxter, 80, of 2460 Riverfork Road died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Mr. Baxter was an Air Force veteran and was a musician.

Surviving are five sons, Don Baxter of Lake Wylie, Jim Baxter of Clearwater, Fla., Tom Baxter of Seville, Ohio, Bob Baxter of Newport, N.H., and Pat Baxter of McDonald, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Roberta Beattie

RICHBURG - Mrs. Roberta Reid Beattie, 87, of 3394 Lancaster Highway died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union ARP Church, with the Revs. Allen Derrick and David W. Elliott officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery.

A native of Richburg, Mrs. Beattie was a daughter of the late W.J. Reid Sr. and Mamie Betts Reid. She was the widow of John W. Beattie. A retired Chester County school teacher, Mrs. Beattie also taught in Chesterfield and York counties. She was a graduate of Richburg High School and earned her bachelor's degree with honors in English from Erskine College. She earned her master's in education from Winthrop College. She was a member of Union ARP Church, where was a former Sunday school teacher, past president of the Women of the Church and church organist for 42 years.

Surviving are two sisters, Flora Reid and Julia Reid Lynn, both of Richburg; 10 nephews and nieces; and many great-nephews, great-nieces and great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service and at other times at the home of Julia R. Lynn, 3400 Lancaster Highway, Richburg.

Ernest Boone

ROCK HILL - Mr. Ernest Lewis Boone, 70, of 317-B N. Jones Ave. died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Boone was a son of the late Lewis M. Boone and Onie Shelton Boone. Mr. Boone was an insulator with Austin Insulation Co. in Fort Mill. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his daughter, Kathey B. Hunsucker of Rock Hill; his grandson, Brian Yannotti; and his great-grandson.

The family will receive friends Thursday after the service.

Eugene Foster

ROCK HILL - Mr. Eugene Foster, 45, of 348 Scoggins St. died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Lillian Washington, Hattie Foster, Larkin Hancock, Charles Sanders and Susan Denne officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Foster was a son of Grady and Alice Cathcart of Rock Hill. He attended Trinity Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Ostrow Textile Co. He was a doffer at Springs Industries. He attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his wife, Amy Pickett Foster; three children, Yukoto Cherry of Rock Hill, Taylor Foster and Jehovia Foster, both of the home; his brother, Grady Cathcart Jr. of Rock Hill; and his sister, Lashell Cathcart Jones of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Charles Steele Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Steele Sr., 65, of 2132 Greystone Circle died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bruce Wyatt officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Steele was the son of the late Guy P. Steele and Callie Sparks Steele. Mr. Steele was a member of Woodvale Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Bowater. He was the widower of Sylvia Huckabee Steele.

Surviving are his son, Charlie Steele Jr. of Rock Hill; his daughter, Candy McAlister of Belmont, N.C.; his brother; Guy Steele of Catawba; five sisters, Peggy Henderson, Anne Sellers, Betty Hudson, Phyllis Turney, all of Rock Hill, and Nancy Davis of Virginia; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Gerald Hinton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Hinton of 236 Rhea St. died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Pineville AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. Eugene Goodwin officiating and the Revs. Ronald Broome and Johnny Worthy assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Hinton was a son of James Robert Hinton Sr. and Mattie Wright Hinton of Rock Hill. He was a member of Fundamental Bible Church. He was a 1977 graduate of Northwestern High School and attended the Rock Hill Vocational Rehabilitation Center. He also was a volunteer at the Emmett Scott Center.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his adopted daughter, Shafeekah Johnson of Rock Hill; five sisters, Minnie H. Gordon, Mattie H. White, Mary H. Sauls and Janie H. Miller, all of Rock Hill, and Addie Mae Hinton of Charlotte; five brothers, Clinton W. Hinton, Richard Lee Hinton and Charles Hinton, all of Rock Hill, and James R. Hinton Jr. and Roosevelt Hinton, both of Charlotte; and his fiancee, Delores Johnson of Rock Hill.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. today.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Woodrow Byrum

ROCK HILL - Mr. Woodrow Wilson Byrum, 87, of 236 Pointe Circle died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. W. Timothy McClendon and Pastor Carol R. Cannon officiating. Private burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Mr. Byrum was a son of the late Charles Franklin Byrum and Sara McKinney Byrum. He worked for a number of years with J.P. Stevens in food services. He was a 1974 retiree of Mackie Vending Co., to whom he sold his business, Vendine. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Golden K Kiwanis and a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Camp Ground in Union County, N.C. He was active with HOPE and Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Crane Byrum; his son, David Byrum of Chapin; two daughters, Woodeane Smith of Rock Hill and Sally Adkins of Easley; his brother, Allen Byrum of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the St. John family life center after the memorial service.

Bertie Lacey

ROCK HILL - Mr. Bertie Eldridge Lacey, 73, of 1920 Mount Holly died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Holly United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Mike Rouse and Arthur Holt officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Charleston, Mr. Lacey was a son of the late Jacob Leland Lacey and Florence Martin Lacey. He was owner of City Amusement/ Lacey Enterprises. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge No. 111 and was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Lacey was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Maxine Brakefield Lacey; his son, Michael E. Lacey of Rock Hill; two daughters, Libby Lacey of Rock Hill and Dorothea Annette Lacey of Columbia; his brother, Turner Lacey of Ravanel; his sister, Cleo L. Platt of Ravanel; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service and at other times at the home.

Jesse Watts

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Jesse Watts, 87, of Charlotte died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sharon Memorial Park, with the Rev. Joe Burnette officiating.

A native of Pageland, Mr. Watts was a son of the late William Alex-ander Watts and Alice Fincher Watts. He was the widower of Guynella Mildred Snipes Watts. A resident of Charlotte since 1936, he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years service. He was a charter member of Commonwealth Baptist Church, now Briar Creek Baptist Church, and the Phalanx Masonic Lodge No. 32, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and Oasis Temple. He was past Monarch of Grotto.

Surviving are his son, Jesse Lamar Watts of Taylors; his daughter, Judy Hill of Charlotte; his brother, Lee Watts of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret Ashe

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margaret Brakefield Ashe, 84, of Spring Arbor, 1800 India Hook Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Matthew B. Horne officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Ashe was a daughter of the late George Brakefield and Ida White Brakefield. She was the widow of Alva B. Ashe. A homemaker, she was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Alva R. Ashe and Lowell B. Ashe, both of Rock Hill; four sisters, Helen Bradford of Columbus, Ga., Jeanette Darby, Elizabeth Woodle and Doris Brakefield, all of Chester; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mrs. Ashe's son, Lowell Ashe, 2330 Canberra Drive, Rock Hill.

Ruth Bennett

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ida Ruth Jones Bennett, 68, formerly of Jenkins Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jim Herron, Jimmy Ferebee and Mike Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Bennett was a daughter of the late Robert Vance Jones and Rena Vincent Jones. A homemaker, she was the widow of Walter Banks "Bill" Bennett.

Surviving are her son, Walter "Butch" Bennett of Fort Mill; three sisters, Doris Faile of Elberton, Ga., Betty Hood of Rock Hill and Jean Allen of East Freetown, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and her great-grandson.
