Charles Jackson

CLOVER - Mr. Charles Hope Jackson, 71, of 1824 Highway 557 died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Jonathan Dorst, John Gess and Jack Robinson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Jackson was a son of the late Roy Jackson and Sara Nancy Boyd Jackson. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and was a retired machinist from Duff-Norton in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Davis Jackson; his daughter, Nancy J. Martin of Clover; three sons, Charles Mack Jackson, Glenn Jackson and John Edward Jackson, all of Clover; two brothers, William Grier Jackson and J. Wideman Jackson, both of Clover; two sisters, Thelma Johnston of Clover and Nancy Hawfield of Fort Mill; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

Marvin Franklin

ROCK HILL - Mr. Marvin Lester Franklin, 84, of 871 Stonewall Court died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Hogg and the Rev. Dr. Sollie Hicks officiating.

A native of Newberry, Mr. Franklin was a son of the late W.K. Franklin and Essie Lee Wilson Franklin. He came to Rock Hill in 1936 with the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was a radio operator in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. after 48 years. He was a member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post No. 34 and the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Vaughn Franklin; two daughters, Linda Barko and Sherry McElrath, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lillie Mae Bridges and Bobbi Bridges, both of Joanna; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Mackwell Johnson

CHESTER - Mr. Mackwell Johnson, 86, of 232 Ligon St. died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Halseville, with the the Rev. John Heath officiating and the Rev. J.D. McLurkin assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Johnson was a son of John Johnson and Marie Woods Johnson. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacon board, vocal choir leader and active in Sunday school. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Johnson was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Pernella Smith Johnson; his brother, Charlie C. Johnson of Tampa, Fla.; and his caregiver, Juanita Carter of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.

Matthew Bailey, Peyton Bailey and Christian Bailey

ROCK HILL - Matthew Harrison Bailey, Peyton Samuel Bailey and Christian Malcolm Bailey, infant sons of Kenneth L. Bailey and Melissa Jo Edwards Bailey of 4835 Country Oaks Drive died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mike Lowery officiating.

Surviving in addition to their parents are their grandparents, Joe and Paulette Edwards and Dan and Anita Bagley, all of Rock Hill; and their great-grandparents, Ola Pyatt, Leona Gwin and Guy and Maggie Bailey, all of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Fred Cloud

FORT LAWN - Mr. Fred Looan Cloud Sr., 80, of 5521 Williams St. died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Union Ezell A.M.E. Zion Church in Fort Lawn, with the Rev. William N. Long officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Cloud was the son of the late William Henry Cloud and Dossie Anderson Cloud. He was a member of the Union Ezell A.M.E. Zion Church, a member of the NAACP Great Falls Chapter. He was retired from Springs Industry and Fort Lawn Elementary School. He was the widower of Lebolie Walker Cloud.

Surviving are two sons, Carlton Cloud of Lancaster and Ricky Cloud of Great Falls; four daughters, Harriett Garris, Pamela Crawford and Lorene Talford, all of Lancaster, and Brenda Hancock of Fort Lawn; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the Union Ezell A.M.E. Zion Church.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday and may be viewed from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester.

Robert Gill

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Lee Gill, 75, of 444 Allen St. died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. C.D. Montgomery officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Gill was a son of the late Sam Gill and Nancy Stevenson Gill. He was retired from Todd's Lumber Co. and was a member of Mount Prospect Baptist Church.

Surviving are his brother, Charlie Gill of Rock Hill; his sister, Josephine Gill of Rock Hill; and his special friend, Pearline McMullen of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home of Charlie Gill, 424 Fewell St., Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Macon Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Raymond Griffin

CHESTER - Mr. Raymond "Junior" Griffin, 57, of 580 York Road, Apt. H, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Long officiating and assisted by the Revs. Moses Lightner and J.K. Stringfellow. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Griffin was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he was a member of the men's choir and the AP&B Society. He was a son of the late Frank Griffin and Ida Mae Feaster Griffin. He was a 1961 graduate of Finley High School and was employed by Brown's Logging Co. He was a former member of Sweet Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Janie G. Griffin of Chester; three sons, Sidney Griffin of Chester, Terry Griffin of Durham, N.C., and Darrell Crank of New Jersey; three daughters, Rochelle Griffin and Lisa Griffin, both of Charlotte, and Ontonja Griffin of Chester; two brothers, William Griffin of Chester and Willette Griffin of Carlisle; two sisters, Carrie Sanders of Chester and Connie Carter of Rock Hill; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Janie Griffin, 529 Johnson St. in Chester. The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester.

The body will be taken to the church at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Juanita Hoffmeyer

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Helen Juanita Graves Hoffmeyer, 70, of Rock Hill, formerly of Paducah, Ky., died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah, with the Rev. Homer Crain officiating. Burial will be at Mount Kenton Cemetery.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Hoffmeyer was a daughter of the late Champ Graves and Nina Cash Graves. She was the widow of Eugene Leslie Hoffmeyer. Mrs. Hoffmeyer was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Clinton. She was a retired nurse's aide and sitter with the elderly.

Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia Denise Brooks of Rock Hill; her son, Eugene Leslie Hoffmeyer Jr. of Dearborn, Mich.; two sisters, Nell Duffey and Sally Blashill, both of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; her brother, John Conner Graves of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. today at Milner & Orr Funeral Home.

Sara Kellin

ROCK HILL - Sara Elizabeth Kellin, infant daughter of David and Pam Pitmon Kellin of Rock Hill died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral was Wednesday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy McSpadden officiating.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandparents, David M. Kellin and Ruth E. Smith; her brother, Jared Tritt of York County; and two sisters, Stephanie Tritt of York County and Alicia Cooper of Rock Hill.

Eugene Mabry Jr.

CHESTER - Mr. Eugene Albert Mabry Jr., 40, of 1137 Liberty Road died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at home.

At the family's request, there will be no funeral.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Mabry was a son of the late Eugene Albert Mabry Sr. and Margaret Wade Mabry. He was employed with King Exterminating Co.

Surviving are two sisters, Freida M. Eggers of Chester and Sandra M. Sinclair of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at 1270 Liberty Road, Chester.

Avalonia McCloud

NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. - Mrs. Avalonia Howze McCloud of 307 Essex St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000.

Arrangements will be announced by Boyd's Funeral Home in Dearpark, N.Y.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. McCloud was a daughter of the late John D. Howze Sr. and Mary Feely Howze.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas McCloud; three sons, Lionel McCloud and Russell McCloud, both of Atlanta, and Thomas K. McCloud of California; her daughter, Deborah McCloud of Atlanta; seven sisters, Mary Wells of Newport News, Va., Betty Hicks, Annie Perry, Geraldine Robinson, Venice Biggers, Nora Judge and Teresa Glover, all of Rock Hill; and two brothers, John D. Howze Jr. and Johnny Feely, both of Rock Hill.

JoAnne Scherer

YORK - Mrs. JoAnne Sullivan Scherer, 71, of 527 Turkey Creek Road died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with the Rev. Donald Lowery officiating.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Scherer was a daughter of the late Henry Clay Sullivan and Anna Nowell Sullivan. She was the widow of Frank Scherer. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her daughter, Tammy S. Boudreau of York; two sons, Tom Scherer of Hickory, N.C. and Bryon Scherer of York; her brother, Robert Sullivan of Huntington, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, P.O. Box 437, York, SC 29745.

Nellie Sherrin

MONROE, N.C. - Mrs. Nellie Mae West Sherrin, 78, of Monroe died Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Hospice House No. 2 of Union County.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. John Crain and the Rev. Dr. Dana Slack officiating.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Sherrin was a daughter of the late George Washington West and Della West West. She was the widow of Marvin H. Sherrin.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda S. Tomberlin and Della S. Smith, both of Wingate, N.C., and Maxine S. Hill of Charlotte; two sisters, Viola Griffin of Lancaster and Winnie McManus of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Fred Silvers

SENECA - Mr. Fred Ervin Silvers, 95, of 140 Tokeena Road, formerly of Doves Road in Fort Mill, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Mariner Health Care.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill with the Rev. Jim Parrish and Marvin Godfrey officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill.

A native of Robbinsville, N.C., Mr. Silvers was a son of the late Marcus E. Silvers and Delzie Willix Silvers. He was the widower Sadie Stamper Silvers. He was a member of the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene. He was retired from Celanese Corp. after 21 years service in the preparation department.

Surviving are five sons, William H. Silver of Laurens, Harry Silvers of Olympia, Wash., Larry Silvers of Walhalla, Thomas R. Silvers of Statesville, N.C., and David Silvers of Fort Mill; two daughters, Frances Cotton of Gastonia, N.C. and Margaret Wingate of Charlotte; two brothers, Harvey Silvers of Fort Mill and Vinson Silvers of Cleveland, Ga.; two sisters, Willie Griffin of Fort Mill and Martha Rae of Belton; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his grandson, Ray Giles, 2103 Sunset Circle, Fort Mill.
