Ruth Adams

GREAT FALLS - Miss Ruth Adams, 82, of 42 Walnut St. died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, with the Rev. Eugene Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Miss Adams was a daughter of the late George Adams and Lula Faile Adams. A homemaker, she attended the Kershaw schools.

Surviving are two sisters, Grace Catoe of Kershaw and Georgia Hopkins of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Dexter Cook Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Dexter Lee Cook Sr., 71, of 957 Sherwood Circle died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at National Healthcare Center in Garden City.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Bob Teems assisting.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Cook was a son of the late Amos Soulee Cook and Christine Hilton Cook. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a retired mechanical engineer for Springs Industries and was a member of the Professional Engineers, Catawba Chapter. Mr. Cook was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Todd Cook; his son, Dr. Dexter Lee Cook Jr. of Lancaster; his daughter, Tina R. Cook of Surfside Beach; two brothers, Gene W. Cook of Darlington and Bobby K. Cook of Surfside Beach; his sister, Sara Andrews Jr. of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Dexter Cook Jr., 1328 Royida Drive, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Glenns Bay Baptist Church, 1835 Glenn's Bay Road, Surfside Beach, SC 29575 or the Brookdale Club, Alzheimer's Association, c/o Lancaster County Council on Aging, P.O. Box 1296, Lancaster, SC 29721-1296.

Jackson Garrison

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jackson "Jack" Mark Garrison, 71, of 2930 Starnes Drive, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry McClure and Eddie Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mr. Garrison was the son of the late Carl and Iva Garrison. He was a retired employee of Hoechst-Celanese Corp. and formerly worked at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of Woodvale Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Garrison of the home; two sons, Robert Garrison of Catawba and John Garrison of Rock Hill; his daughter, Caroline Norris of York; his brother, Marshall Garrison of Rock Hill; three sisters, Izara Plexico of York, Bernice Hensley of Rock Hill and Mildred Bason of Ellicott City, Md.; his granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

Ruth Terres

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ruth Margaret Jolly Terres, 74, of 5759 Shiloh Unity Road died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A private memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. N.J. Neely officiating.

A native of Harmony, N.C., Mrs. Terres was a daughter of the late Cleveland S. Jolly and Rachel Elizabeth Lambert Jolly. She was the widow of Francis James Terres. She was a retired statistician for the WIC Department of the Mecklenburg Health Department. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her son, Jim Terres of the home; two daughters, Dawn King of Lancaster and Mariam Lee Terres of Charlotte; two brothers, Phil Jolly and Ralph Jolly, both of Statesville, N.C.; and three sisters, Naomi Sealey of Charlotte, Brenda Whitesides of Statesville and Barbara Jean Mallet of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southern Piedmont, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Harvey Hendershott

ROCK HILL - Mr. Harvey Robert Hendershott, 79, of 1404 Split Cedar Road died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at his home.

The funeral will be private.

A native of South Bend, Ind., Mr. Hendershott was a son of the late Benjamin P. Hendershott and Elgie Odykirk Hendershott. He was a retired farmer and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his son, Max Hendershott of Rock Hill; two brothers, Ralph Hendershott of Niles, Mich., and Clyde Hendershott of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and five sisters, Ruth Bedell, Dollie Richmond and Mary Wickstrom, all of Niles, Anna May Greekin of Dowagaic, Mich., and Shirley McKinley of Lafayette, Ind.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Harry Matheson

LANCASTER - Mr. Harry Houghton Matheson, 76, of 2245 Felly Lane died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home with the Rev. N.J. Neely officiating. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe.

A native of Union County, Mr. Matheson was a son of the late Joseph Matheson and Carrie Williams Matheson. He was a retired machinist with Van Guard Supreme in Monroe. He was a Korean War veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hinson Matheson; his stepson, Wayne Tolbert of Lancaster; his stepdaughter, Lynne Taylor of Monroe; two sisters, Helen Pate of Waxhaw, N.C., and Myrtle Hurst of Pageland; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Sandra Okey

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Sandra McCall Okey, 51, of Kanuga Lake Road died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Margaret Pardee Hospital.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Lake Toxaway, N.C., with the Rev. Stanley Adcock officiating.

A native of Transylvania County, N.C., Mrs. Okey was a daughter of Louise Fisher McCall of Rock Hill and the late Homer N. McCall Jr.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Charles L. Okey III; two sons, Barry N. Adams of Fort Mill and Robin L. Adams of Rock Hill; two brothers, Randy McCall of Lake Toxaway, N.C., and James McCall of Rock Hill; and her granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Route 1, Lake Toxaway, NC 28747.

Carl Mackey

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Carl Mackey, 69, of 131 Francis Ave. died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church with the Revs. Tony Medlin and Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Mackey was a son of the late Thomas Rudolph Mackey and Lillian Bell Mackey. He was a member of Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church where he served as trustee and as a member of the administrative board. He was owner and operator of Mackey's Used Cars, was a graduate of Lancaster High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He was a member of the Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277 and president of the Wateree Hunt Club. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy G. Mackey; his son, Thomas Carl "Buddy" Mackey Jr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Debra Robbins of Rock Hill and Melissa Bumgardner of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Stover Mackey of Great Falls and Tony Mackey of Lancaster; his sister, Ann Murphy of Milwaukee; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Sharica White

ROCK HILL - Sharica Lavetta Anntanet White, infant daughter of Rico White and Dorothea White of 234 Saluda St., died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Mason officiating.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, DeMorris Perry of the home; her maternal grandparents, Charles and Julia Watkins of Rock Hill; her paternal grandparents, Martha White and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hinton, all of Rock Hill; and her paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Hinton Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. David White, both of Rock Hill; and her maternal great-grandparents, Willie Perry Jr. and Rosa Mae Watkins, both of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Wilhelmina Babcock

DETROIT - Mrs. Wilhelmina Leathers Babcock, 88, of 166 St. Manor Place, formerly of Chester, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Harper Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Chester, with the Rev. Cordell Jenkins officiating and presiding Elder Carl A. Glenn assisting. Burial will be at Benson Cemetery.

Born in Chester, Mrs. Babcock was a daughter of the late Clarence E. Leathers and Mary Ella Westco Leathers. She attended Brainard Institute and graduated from Brainard Junior College.

Surviving are her husband, D.H. Babcock; her daughter, Doris Hood of Detroit; her grandson; and her granddaughter.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 tonight at Gore's Funeral Home in Chester.

The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Metropolitan AME Zion Church, building fund, 184 York St., Chester, SC.

William Bell

CHESTER - Mr. William Harvey Bell, 60, of 1717 Quinn Road died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phillip Haynes officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of York County, Mr. Bell was a son of the late William Henry Bell and Sue Gordon Bell Gladden. He was a retired mechanic with Carolina Tractor Equipment. A graduate of Chester High School, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Anderson Bell; his son, William A. "Buddy" Bell of Blackstock; two daughters, Susan B. Young of Chester and Sheryl B. Dietz of High Point, N.C.; his sister, Mildred Herndon of Columbia; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Hattie Chisholm

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Hattie Chisholm, 83, of 1069 Archer Drive died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Philippi Fire-Baptized Holiness Church of God, with Pastor James Hill officiating. Burial will be at St. Phillip Baptist Church cemetery in Richburg.

A member of Philippi Fire-Baptized Holiness Church of God, she was mother of the church and was a member of the Sunday school board. She was a former member of St. Phillip Baptist Church in Richburg.

Surviving are her son, Eddie Chisholm Jr. of Rock Hill; four daughters, Geneva Chisholm, Jeanette Chisholm, Elizabeth Harris and Sallie Ann Phillip, all of Rock Hill; her sister, Hopie Whitlock of Rock Hill; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Philippi Fire-Baptized Holiness Church of God and at other times at 842 Jefferson Place, Rock Hill.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge.

Patricia Culpan

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Patricia Ann King Culpan, 64, of 843 Garden Way Drive died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Hogg officiating.

A native of Highlands, N.J., Mrs. Culpan was a daughter of the late George King and Goldie Bogue King. She was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.

Surviving are three sons, John Hyatt of Keyport, N.J., Michael Smith of York and Harry Culpan of Charlotte; three daughters, Deborah Hammond of Houston, Susan Sample of Rock Hill and Patricia Ernst of Lake Wylie; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home after the memorial service and at other times at the home of Susan Sample, 2495 Blue Road, Rock Hill.

Margaret Hagar

DARLINGTON - Mrs. Margaret P. Gainey Hagar, 85, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Medford Place Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Victory Baptist Church in Darlington. Interment will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Born in Lee County, Mrs. Hagar was the daughter of the late Willie Parnell and Elnora Parnell. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and attended the senior adult Sunday school class. She previously was employed by McClellans and Larry's Department Store.

Mrs. Hagar was the widow of Robert Gainey and Hayes Hagar.

Surviving are three sons, Charles Gainey and Milas Gainey, both of Darlington, and Robert Gainey of Washington Court House, Ohio; two daughters, Frances Witherspoon of Columbia, Tenn., and Hope Carter of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mike and Jennifer Cook, 119 S. Ervin St. in Darlington.
