Lester Oliver

ROCK HILL - Mr. Lester Jerome Oliver, 54, 465 Rockwell Circle, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Catawba Ward, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating.

A native of Rockingham, N.C., Mr. Oliver was a son of the late Maxie Oliver and Lela Oliver. He was formerly employed with General Tire, Inc. and was employed with On The Spot Check Cashing in Rock Hill. Mr. Oliver was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Catawba Ward.

Surviving are two sons, Randy Oliver of York and Sidney Oliver of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Frankie Pittman

CHESTER - Mr. Frankie Lane Pittman, 57, of 1661 Center Road, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Pittman was a son of Betty Pope Simpson of Rock Hill and the late Leonard Pittman. He was employed as a welder with the SW&B Construction Corp. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are in addition to his mother are his wife, Brenda Herring Pittman; two sons, Frank Lane Wood of Rock Hill and Tony Wood of McConnells; his daughter Candice Pittman of Fort Mill; three brothers, Mike Pope, Wayne Pittman and Timmy Simpson, all of Rock Hill; and his sister, Juan Hammond of Diamond Head, Miss.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Elliott Smith

ROCK HILL - Mr. Elliott Morris "Crack" Smith of 2312 Hoke Lane died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Ralph V. Washington officiating and the Revs. Ray Thompson and John Brown assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Estelle Smith Crosby and Harry Crosby. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Rock Grove AME Zion Church, where he was a choir member. He was a former member of Motorcycle Club No. 74. He attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred D. Smith; two daughters, Linda Hardin of Lancaster and Karen Smith of Rock Hill; two sons, Terry Smith and Duncan Morris Smith, both of Rock Hill; five sisters, Mildred Adams, Lena Porter, and Juanita Barnette, all of Rock Hill, Emma Crosby of Hempstead, N.Y., and Alberta Crosby of Rockville Center, N.Y.; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Rollie Stevens

LANCASTER - Mr. Rollie Bell "Roddey" Stevens, 68, of 1701 Stevens Hill Road died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at High Point Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Stuart Snow. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Stevens was a son of the late Edward Lewis Stevens and Mary Frances Sims Stevens. He attended High Point Free Will Baptist Church and operated a produce stand in Fort Mill.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Joyce Bratcher Stevens; his son, Jerry Edward Stevens of Lancaster; three daughters, Janet Darlene Stevens Richards and Loretta Stevens Barnhill, both of Rock Hill, and Joyce Denise Stevens of Lancaster; three brothers, Rob Stevens, Eugene Stevens and James Stevens, all of Lancaster; his sister, Annie S. Rivers of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

James White Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James David White Sr., 72, of 4249 Marshall Road died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Mount Holly United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Rouse officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. White was a son of the late George Pearson White Sr. and Wren Brown White. He was a retired scheduler for Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. and a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dunlap White; his daughter, Patricia White Hope of York; his brother, Marshall White of Rock Hill; his sister, Martha White Workman of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to Mount Holly United Methodist Church building fund, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Rebekah White

FORT MILL - Mrs. Rebekah Freeman White, 37, of 2205 White's Road died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service was Thursday at Unity Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Dan Holloway and the Rev. Jim Correll officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. today at Unity Cemetery.

Born in Greenville, Mrs. White was a daughter of James Freeman and Patsy Watkins Freeman of York. A former resident of Rock Hill, she was a 1980 graduate of Northwestern High School. Mrs. White was employed with White Business Machines and was a member of the Rock Hill Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Sidney A. White; two brothers, James C. Freeman of Rock Hill and Daniel P. Freeman of York; her sister, Melissa F. Perry of Hickory Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Randy Winchester

LANCASTER - Mr. Randy Neal Winchester, 45, of 1329 Marion Way died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Muse officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Winchester was a son of Annie L. Winchester of Lancaster and the late Joe P. Winchester. He was an employee of Springdale Grill, a Army veteran and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Linda Jones Winchester; his son, Brian Neal Winchester; his stepdaughter, Melissa Altman of Lancaster; two stepsons, Eddie Altman and Wayne Altman, both of Lancaster; two brothers, Jack Winchester of Great Falls and Buck Winchester of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.

Earl Arrowood

CLOVER - Mr. Earl James Arrowood, 75, of 106 Hopper St., died Friday, March 17, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Verson Hodges officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Bryson City, N.C., Mr. Arrowood was a son of the late Ernest Victor Arrowood and Birdie Nations Arrowood. He was a Navy veteran and was employed with Smith Textile Apron in Gastonia, N.C.

Mr. Arrowood is survived by his brother, T.M. Arrowood of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Carolyn Johnson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Carolyn S. Johnson of 961 Steele St. died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Sherman McBeth officiating and the Revs. Sylvilla Feaster and Betty Hicks assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Erskine Young and Rosetta Steele. She was a cook. She was a member of New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, and Elk and the AP&B Society. Mrs. Johnson attended Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are her husband, Allen Johnson; her son, William Steele of Rock Hill; two stepsons, Albert Hemphill of Newark, N.J., and George Knox of Rock Hill; her sister, Sarah Steele of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren,

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at home and at the home of her sister, 1218 Green St. Ext.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Monday.

CHESTER - Mr. Donald Edward Weir, 48, of 594 Weir Drive, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Wingate officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. Weir was a son of Catherine Lewis Weir of Summerville and the late John D. Weir Sr. He was a former employee with Textile Art & Film. He was a graduate of Chester High School and a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Irajean W. Weir; his daughter, Jandon Weir of Chester and his brother, John David Weir Jr. of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Weir Jr., 594 Weir Drive, Chester.

FORT MILL - Mr. Donald Ray "Bo" Wilson, 47, of 858 Fort Mill Highway died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Pineville City Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Jacks officiating.

A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Wilson was a son of the late George Ray and Mabel Lovern Wilson. He was a founding member and president for 16 years of God's Few Motorcycle Club. Mr. Wilson was a member of American Legion Post No. 43 in Fort Mill. He enjoyed traveling and working on his motorcycles.

Surviving are his daughter, Stephanie James of Aiken; his sister, Deborah Wilson of Fort Mill; his grandchild; and his companion, Sharon Vincent.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
