Louisa Plyler

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Louisa Banks Plyler, 91, of 282 Heyward St. died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Providence Hospital.

The funeral will be private. Burial will be at Tabernacle United Methodist Church cemetery in Lancaster.

A native of Darlington, Mrs. Plyler was a daughter of the late Rev. Martin Luther Banks and Maud Dickson Banks. She was a 1930 graduate of Winthrop College and had taught school. A homemaker, she was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia.

Surviving are her husband, Conrad A. Plyler; her son, Capt. Conrad A. Plyler, USN (Ret.) of Silverdale, Wash.; her daughter, Louisa Banks Tarullo of Chevy Chase, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church, Washington Street Foundation, 1401 Washington, St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Lorraine Johnson

FORT MILL - Ms. Lorraine Carswell Johnson, 57, of 251 Sleepy Hollow Road died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Fort Mill Church of God, with the Revs. David Kemp and David Jennings officiating.

Ms. Johnson was a daughter of the late Hubert Carswell and Novella Carswell. She was a former employee of Springs Industries and was a member of Fort Mill Church of God.

Surviving are three sons, Wylie Johnson, David Johnson and Danny Johnson, all of Fort Mill; her daughter, Cheryl Burris of Rock Hill; two brothers, Clyde Carswell of Rock Hill and Ken Carswell of Fort Mill; two sisters, Ann Wilson of Lake Wylie and Betty Trull of Fort Mill; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Fort Mill Church of God, 221 Academy St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

Saul J. Parker

ROCK HILL - Mr. Saul J. Parker, 72, of 129 McFadden St. died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Main Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Parker was a son of the late Eddie Russell Parker and Lucinda Blanton Parker. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of the West Main Church of the Nazarene and was retired from Star Paper Tube.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald Parker of Woodruff and Steve F. Parker of Gaffney; four daughters, Barbara Parker, Ann Marie Parker, Sandra Auten, all of Rock Hill, and Frances Neeley of Catawba; his brother, James Nesbit Parker of Lorraines, Ohio; his sister, Tiny Lucille Bumgardner of Gaffney; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 129 McFadden St. in Rock Hill.

Martha White

YORK - Miss Martha Edith White, 94, formerly of Sharon, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Sharon ARP Church cemetery in Sharon, with the Rev. Meredith Cavin officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Miss White was a daughter of the late James Meek White and Eliza Scott White.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Sharon ARP Church, 3915 York St., Sharon, SC 29742.

Michael Wilson

CHESTER - Mr. Michael Randolph Wilson, 36, of 2147 Baton Rouge Road died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kings Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Hope officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Jamaica Queens, N.Y., Mr. Wilson was a son of Louise Bailey Wilson and the late Earl Wilson He was a member of Saint Clement Church in Ozone Park, N.Y. After residing in Chester, he attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mr. Wilson attended the public schools of Malberne School District in Malberne, N.Y. He worked as a clerk for Sears-Roebuck in Plainview, N.Y., and for the New York State Workman Compensation Bureau in Hempstead, N.Y.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, Earl Wilson of the home and Richard Wilson of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Rene Blackman and Lisa Brown, both of West Hempstead N.Y.; and his maternal grandmother Hattie Bailey of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Dennis DeWalt

WHITMIRE - Mr. Dennis DeWalt, 64, of 121 Alberta Road died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove AME Church in Newberry, with the Rev. Michael L. Simmons officiating.

A native of Newberry, Mr. DeWalt was a son of the late Dennis DeWalt Sr. and Annie Williams DeWalt. He attended the Newberry County public schools.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia DeWalt; three sons, Eric Leon DeWalt of Rock Hill, Emmanuel O'Neal DeWalt of Whitmire and Chris DeWalt of Norristown, Pa.; and two daughters, Denise DeWalt and Gloria Hagwood, both of Norristown.

Gibson and Brown Funeral Home is in charge.

Ernestine Alspaugh

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ernestine Porter Alspaugh of 310 Rolling Ridge died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Robertson officiating and the Revs. Herbert Crump, Z.B. Wells and Louvenia Pride assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Union County, Mrs. Alspaugh was a daughter of Ernest Ralph Porter and Annie Mae Bell Porter of Rock Hill. She joined Mark Hill Baptist Church in Jonesville at an early age. Later, she was affiliated with Dupage AME Zion Church in Naperville, Ill., and Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

She attended the public schools of Union and York counties. She was a 1964 graduate of Emmett Scott High School. She was graduated from Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C. She was a supervisor with Lucent Technologies in Naperville, Ill.

Mrs. Alspaugh was a former member of the board of trustees of Barber-Scotia College. She was a York County Adult Literacy volunteer. She was a member of the York chapter of Junior Achievement and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Larry D. Porter of Rock Hill; four sisters, Bessie R. Gallman of Brooklyn, N.Y., Alice D. Smalls and Mazine Porter, both of Winnsboro, and Linda M. Agurs of Rock Hill.

The body will be placed in the church at noon today.

The family will receive friends at 786 Laney Terrace, Rock Hill.

Robyn Bixenman

CHESTER - Mrs. Robyn Teates Bixenman, 45, of 1736 Pondside Drive. died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home. Burial will be at Warrenton Cemetery in Warrenton, Va. A memorial service will be held in Warrenton.

A native of Warrenton, Mrs. Bixenman was a daughter of Jane Enright Teates and the late Robert Campbell Teates. She graduated from Fauquier High School in Warrenton in 1973 and the University of Virginia in 1977 with a bachelor of science in nursing. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City from 1977 to 1980, then at The Fruquier Hospital from 1980 until she and her husband moved to Rock Hill.

While at Fauquier, she worked in the recovery room, as a head nurse in the Tom Frost wing and was ACLS instructor in the Home Health Department.

Over the past 11 years, she worked with her husband's medical practice as nurse and practice manager. She was a member of the American Practice Managers Association and had served as chairwoman of the Board of York County Hospice. She was a member of Warrenton Baptist Church, where she was organist.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Dr. William R. Bixenman; and her brother, Timothy Teates of Edinburg, Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the home of Linda Shenton, 770 Milton Ave., Rock Hill, and after the service.

Memorial may be made to the Animal Adoption League of York County, P.O. Box 2453, Rock Hill, SC 29731.

Frances Agnew

KERSHAW - Mrs. Frances Hendricks Agnew, 92, of 315 W. Pine St. died Tuesday, March 28, 2000.

A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Kershaw City Cemetery.

Born in Cleveland County, N.C., Mrs. Agnew was a daughter of the late Rochel Hendricks and Nursa Regina Costner Hendricks. A homemaker, she was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Betsy A. Hagins of Kershaw; her brother, James Hendricks of Spartanburg; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Willie Gaston

NORTH CHARLESTON - Mr. Willie Paul "Smiley" Gaston, 54, of 4760 Upjohn Road died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Roper Alliance Hospital in Charleston.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Mount Ararat AME Zion Church in Richburg, with the Rev. Leroy Ellison presiding and the Rev. Rosalind Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Richburg, Mr. Gaston was a son of the late Tarrance Gaston and Bertha Crane Gaston. He was employed for 16 years at Island Construction Co. in Charleston as a heavy-equipment operator, and he was also a truck driver. He was a member of the Mount Ararat AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Pruitt Gaston; three sisters, Jessie Mae Heath and Annie Bell Caldwell, both of Great Falls, and Jessie Lee Heath of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Charles Gaston of Lancaster and Nathaniel Gaston of Great Falls; his stepdaughter, Jacqueline Lloyd of Flint, Mich.; five other stepdaughters; two stepsons; and three step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his niece, Cora Ann Barber at 46 Pine St. in Great Falls.

Judith James

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Judith Ellis James, 59, of 1167 Cedar Grove Lane, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodhaven Baptist Church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. James was a daughter of the late Edward "Ed" S. Ellis and Katherine Wilson Ellis. A homemaker, she was a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Billy C. James; her son, Steven C. James of Lake Wylie; her daughter, Sandra Greer of York; her brother, Harrison Wayne Ellis of Rock Hill; her sister, Helen Stutts of Columbia; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Patricia Laney

CLOVER - Ms. Patricia Turner Laney, 51, of Clover died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Parkwood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred Crisp officiating.

A native of York, Ms. Laney was a daughter of the late Robert O. Turner and Maxie Stewart Turner. She was a licensed practical nurse for more than 30 years in The Birth Place at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Gwendolyn Laney of York; her brother, Donald Turner of Gastonia; her sister, Barbara Pruitt of Clover; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
