W. Crawford Stroud

GREAT FALLS - Mr. W. Crawford Stroud, 82, of 5962 Richburg Road died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Heath Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Rumford and Clarence Fouse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Stroud was the son of the late Wade Hampton Stroud and Orene Crawford Stroud. A 1941 graduate of Clemson College, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor fraternity. Member and former president of the Great Falls Lions Club, he received an award for 50 years of service. He also was a member of the Chester County Cattlemen's Association. He was a lifelong member of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church where he served for many years as Sunday school superintendent and teacher of the adult Sunday school class. Mr. Stroud was the co-founder and operator of Sunshine Dairy in Great Falls. He was later district manager of Coburg Dairy in Chester. Mr. Stroud later served as an employee of the S.C. Department of Health from which he retired in 1982. He then continued to operate a beef cattle farm until 1994.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Scott Stroud; three daughters, Orene Stroud Horton of Columbia and Betty Stroud and Susan Stroud, both of Great Falls; his brother, Lawrence Stroud of Great Falls; two sisters, Louise Crowder of Lancaster and Ruth Hampton Stroud of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Clyde Wright

CLOVER - Mr. Clyde Wesley Wright of 721 Kings Mountain St. died Monday, March 27, 2000, at the Brian Center in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Green Pond United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Amiri Hooker officiating and the Revs. Keith Hunter and Stellie J. Jackson assisting. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens.

A native of York County, Mr. Wright was a son of the late James Hampton Wright and Lena Adams Wright. He was a member of Green Pond United Methodist Church, where he served as past president of the Usher Board, a trustee, a member of the United Methodist Men and a local church lay speaker. He was Past Master of Olive Branch Lodge No. 279 (PHF and AM) and was a member of the Lancaster Consistory No. 254, Menzel Temple, No. 35, the United Men's Club of Clover, Green Pond Church Aid Society No. 10 and Green Pond Friendly Aid Society No. 4.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Ruby Adams Wright; two daughters, Kathy W. Jones of the home and Nahketah R. Bagby of Slidell, La.; his son, Robert McGill of Norfolk, Va.; three brothers, Wilbur Wright of Clover, Robert Wright of Simpsonville and Frazier Wright of Charlotte; his sister, Alverta Stewart of Clover; three grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. today. Generation Funeral Home is in charge.

Vera Sweat

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Vera B. Sweat, 68, of White Oak Manor died Tues-day, March 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery in York, with the Rev. Jim Parrish officiating.

A native of Marion, Mrs. Sweat was the widow of Larry Sweat. She was a retired textile spinner.

Surviving are five sons, Michael Sweat and Herman Barrentine, both of Fort Mill, Darrell Barrentine of York, James Barrentine of Charlotte and Glenn Barrentine of Leslie; her daughter, Joyce Taylor of Mooresville, N.C.; her brother, Henry Barrentine of Marion; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, U.S. 21 Bypass, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Oneal Williams

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Oneal Williams, 85, of 2401 Barry St. died Monday, March, 27, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Richmond Funeral Home. Burial will be at York Memorial Park.

Surviving are her daughter, Luvenia Blackmon of Charlotte; four sisters, Frances Owens and Rose Speights, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Margaret Parker of New York, and Louise Prince of Hartsville; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lindsay Williams

YORK - Mr. Lindsay Boyd Williams, 81, of 116 Sterling Drive died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Vision Ministries Full Gospel Church, with the Rev. David Jennings officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Arthur Williams and Ida Gaston Williams. He was the widower of Willie Mae Reeves Williams. Mr. Williams was retired from Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Vision Ministries Full Gospel Church.

Surviving are his son, Roger D. Williams of York; his daughter, Patricia Nadeau of Rock Hill; two brothers, Lee D. Williams and Woodrow "Mac" Williams, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Helen W. Gallman, Evelyn W. Baker and Annie W. Hoagland, all of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and his great-grandson.

The family will be at home.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Linda Brown

TRENTON, N.J. - Ms. Linda Brown, formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at a Trenton, N.J., hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Corinth Baptist Church in Trenton.

Surviving are her son, Antwan Brown of Trenton; two brothers, John L. Parks of Trenton and Grover L. Brown of Philadelphia; and her grandson.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hughes Funeral Home.

Clemons Funeral Home in Rock Hill is in charge of local arrangements.

Rudy Crocker

SPARTANBURG - Mr. Rudy De Foix "Bub" Crocker, 81, of 410 Pierpont Ave. Ext. died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Magnolia Manor of Inman.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, with the Rev. Lane Bembenek officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are his wife, Dortha Rose Crocker; two daughters, Flicka Gault of Rock Hill and Susan Heatherly of Spartanburg; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel and at other times at the home of his daughter, Susan Heatherly, 113 Derby Down, Spartanburg.

Gloria Hoffecker

CLOVER - Mrs. Gloria F. Hoffecker, 62, of 2807 Propst Road died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Lingle officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Hoffecker was a daughter of the late Arthur Francis and Annie Mae Hawkins Francis. She was a retired kitchen designer for Sears Co. and a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Hoffecker Sr.; her son, Frank Hoffecker of Ohio; her brother, Jack Francis of Melbourne, Fla.; five sisters, Helen F. Alexander of Charlotte, Mary F. Ross of Lake Wylie, Katie F. Wilson of Pinehurst, N.C., Ann F. Bander of Myrtle Beach and Betty Jean F. Cooper of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Barbara Holland

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Barbara Gilreath Holland, 71, of 1315 Quiet Acres, formerly of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 5 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Anderson, Mrs. Holland was a daughter of the late Mack Gilreath and Clara Gilreath. She was a disabled retiree of Publix Super-markets in St. Petersburg, Fla., and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her brother, John Gilreath of Pawleys Islands; her sister, Joan Pethel of Rock Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

Thomas Jordan

ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas Jerry Jordan of 1206 Amelia Ave. died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sherman McBeth Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the Mount Ararat AME Zion Church cemetery in Chester County.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Jordan was a son the late James Jordan and Mary Terry Jordan. At an early age, he joined Mount Ararat AME Zion Church.

Surviving are seven sisters, Willie M. Mackey and Janie R. Jordan, both of Charlotte, Martha L. Mobley, Betty McCorey, Mamie B. Beatty, Henrietta Pickett and Emily Jordan, all of Rock Hill; four brothers, James A. Jordan of Charlotte, David Jordan of Lancaster and Alonzo Jordan and Jimmy R. Jordan, both of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

Allie Gouldin

CHARLESTON - Mrs. Allie Keels Gouldin, 89, of Hanahan, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Heartland Healthcare.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with Tom Bohart officiating.

A native of Blythewood, Mrs. Gouldin was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Keels and Dora Rose Keels.

Surviving are her stepson, Jake Gouldin of Rock Hill; her brother, Walker Keels of North Charleston; her niece; and four nephews.

Visitation will follow the graveside service.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Bennie Lipsey

ROCK HILL -"Mrs. Bennie M. Dunlap Lipsey, 88, of 1229 Russell St. died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Arthur Randolph Jr officiating. Burial will be at Rock Grove AME Zion Church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Lipsey was the daughter of the late Charlie Dunlap Sr. and Josephine White Dunlap. She was the widow of Rev. James Lipsey.

A retired dressmaker, Mrs. Lipsey attended York County public schools and studied dressmaking and design in New York City.

She was a member of New Hope AME Zion Church in White Plains N.Y., where she was a member of the senior choir, the mass choir, the Stewardess Board #1 and the missionary society. She also was a class leader, a Sunday school teacher and served as superintendent of the Sunday school.

Upon returning to Rock Hill, she rejoined St. Matthew AME Zion Church.

Surviving are her sisters, Lila Dunlap Chisholm of Inwood, N.Y., and Harriett Dunlap Dash of White Plains, N.Y.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends at 3 p.m., and at other times at the home.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruby McClain

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruby Steele McClain, 81, of 855 S. Confederate Ave. died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at India Hook United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Heustess officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. McClain was a daughter of the late Arthur Steele and Hannah Steele. She attended school in the Rock Hill school district and was a former employee at Celanese Corp. She and her husband owned and operated McClain Superette on Saluda Street. She was a member of India Hook United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Billy P. McClain; three daughters, Lorraine Hunter, Sharon Neely and Gayle Hall, all of Rock Hill; her sister, Alma S. Steele of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to India Hook United Methodist Church, 3300 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Myrtle McCoy

Rock Hill - Mrs. Myrtle Funderburke Walters McCoy, 93, of Rock Hill died Thursday, March 30, 2000.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Burial will be at Royal Pines Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Ruby, Mrs. McCoy was retired from UniRoyal, Inc., and was a member of the Wesleyan Church. She was the widow of T.A. Walters and Dick McCoy.

Surviving are two sons, Billy Walters of Fort Mill and Grady Walters of Garden Grove, Calif.; her daughter, Barbara Millikin of Oakmont, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Pope Funeral Home.
