Dorethea Thompson

YORK - Ms. Dorethea Thompson, 55, of 306 Ross Cannon St. died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, with the Rev. Blanche Jamison officiating and the Rev. Marion Jones assisting. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery in York.

Ms. Thompson was a daughter of Edna Crawford Thompson of York. She attended public school in York. She was a former member of St. John Baptist Church and was a member of Mt. Zion F.B.H. Church in York.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her daughter, Debra Thompson of Gastonia, N.C.; four brothers, Walter Thompson, Charles Thompson and Ronnie Thompson, all of York, and Donald Thompson of Rock Hill; three sisters, Clara Burris of Charlotte, and Mary Thompson and Edna Thompson, both of York; two grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The family will receive friends at the home.

A.Z. Williams

YORK - Mr. A.Z. Williams, 73, of 110 Williams St. died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at New Home AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. C.J. Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Williams was an auto mechanic for Dickerson Motors, where he worked for 51 years. He was a member of New Home AME Zion Church, where he was a Preachers Steward, Class Leader, member of the Men's Club, the Steward Board, Missionary Society, and the Men's Brotherhood.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice Williams of the home and Patricia Williams of Seattle; two sons, A.Z. Williams Jr. of Rock Hill and Freddy Williams of Millbury, Mass.; five sisters, Guynell Williams of York, Elizabeth Orr of Gastonia, N.C., Grace Lee Sherrill of Mount Holly, N.C., Eloise Moore of Charlotte; and Reola Robinson of New York; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Foxx Ayers

WEST COLUMBIA - Mr. Foxx Ervin Ayers, 75, of 3930 Broad River Road died Friday, March 31, 2000, at HCR Manor Care.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Catawba Ward, with the Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Ayers was a son of the late Johnnie J. Ayers and Ruthie Gordon Ayers. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in West Columbia, where he was a High Priest Group member. Mr. Ayers served in the U.S. Army Cavalry Division during World War II in the Pacific. A member of the Catawba Indian Tribe, he served on the Tribal Executive Committee and was a self-employed painter.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Lee Harris Ayers of West Columbia; his son, Avery Stuart Ayers of Columbia; two daughters, Clara Lee Wilson of Irmo and Dot Frary of Warrenton, Va.; his sister, Mary Ann Gibson of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Longhouse, Catawba Indian Reservation, and other times at the home of his sister, 409 World Changers Lane, Rock Hill.

Brenda Bean

FORT MILL - Mrs. Brenda Marlene Wallace Bean, 52, of 271 Fern Forest Court died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Bob Costner officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Bean was a daughter of Beavan J. "B.J." Wallace and Erma Lucille Drescher Wallace of Rock Hill. She was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Curtis P. Bean of Fort Mill; her son, Randy C. Bean of Pineville, N.C.; her daughter, Robin E. Bean Love of Rock Hill; her sister, Jackie Combs Lockwood of Fort Mill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight and at other times at the home of her parents, 1028 Williams St., Rock Hill.

Theodore Barber

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Rev. Theodore L. Barber, 70, died Monday, March 27, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Refuge Way of the Cross Church in Baltimore.

Born in Chester County, the Rev. Barber was raised in Rock Hill, where he attended school. He moved to Baltimore in 1957. The Rev. Barber studied theology at the College of Notre Dame, Arlington Bible College and Liberty Bible College. He had an associate arts degree in criminal justice from Catonsville Community College.

A Pen Lucy-Govans area church activist and retired postal employee, he was chairman of the ministerial board of Refuge Way of the Cross Church in North Baltimore and was a former chairman of its trustee board. He was vice president of the Refuge Housing Project and negotiated real estate and home renovation projects for his church.

He was employed at his daughter's law firm as a courier and legal assistant.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline Boyd Barber of Laurel, Md.; his son, Paul Brien Barber of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Marilyn Annette Barber and Claudia Barber, both of Laurel; four brothers, Isaiah Barber, Olin Barber and Murray Barber, all of Baltimore, and William Barber of Rock Hill; four sisters, Edna Barber, Janie Blake, Eldora Barber and Brenda Thompson, all of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

March Funeral Home is in charge.

Jessie Canupp

UNION - Mrs. Jessie Walker Canupp, 61, of Brittany Manor, 296 Meansville Road died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Calvin Smith officiating. Burial will be at Bullock's Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

A native of Lockhart, Mrs. Canupp was a daughter of the late Curtis Eugene Walker Sr. and Susie Davis Walker. She was a member of the Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church and was formerly employed as a textile worker.

Surviving are two sons, Robert C. "Beaver" Canupp and Barry C. Canupp, both of Lockhart; three daughters, Linda C. Lemons of Blacksburg, and Tammy C. Maloney of Sharon and Stacey C. Myers of Rock Hill; her brother, Curtis "Red" Walker Jr. of Lockhart; three sisters, Suzanne Harris and Pearl Gault, both of Union, and Patsy Cromer of Lockhart; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home and other times at the home of Barry C. Canupp, 207 N. 3rd St. in Lockhart.

Margaret Franklin

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Margaret Carter Franklin, 75, of 40 Pendleton St. died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Larry Roberts and John Mullis officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A graduate of Great Falls High School, Mrs. Franklin was a former supervisor for Carolina Community Action in five counties. She was a member of the Chester County Board of Registration for many years. She was a daughter of the late John Carter and Ida Humphries Carter.

Mrs. Franklin is survived by her husband, David Franklin; her son, Donald Preston Franklin of Great Falls; her daughter, Lynda Bernhardt of Waldorf, Md.; and her niece, Lois Carter Hughes of Eutawville, whom she reared.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Richard Moran

ROCK HILL - Mr. Richard Thomas Moran, 60, of 1638 Sumner Road died Friday, March 31, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father William F. Pentis officiating.

Born in Queens, N.Y., Mr. Moran was a son of the late Thomas Richard Moran and Anna Lorraine Kieffer Moran. He was a warehouse supervisor with Winn-Dixie. A member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge No. 1720, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Marion P. Moran; three sons, Richard Moran and Thomas Moran, both of Rock Hill, and Ken Moran of Rockingham, N.C.; his daughter, Cathleen Stowe of Rock Hill; his brother, Matthew Moran of New York; his sister, Gert Becker of New York; and eight grandchildren.

A vigil service will be 6:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, with Moose and Elks rites at 7 p.m.

The family will receive friends after the service until 9 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Robert Reynolds

LANCASTER - Mr. Robert Frank Reynolds, 74, of 292 Cliff Road, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the East Side Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joel Rhyner and Dr. Stuart Snow officiating. Burial will be at the Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Charlotte, Mr. Reynolds was the son of the late Ollie Reynolds and Bertha Paul Reynolds. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, was a Mason and was a member of the Hart Lodge No. 380 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Faile Reynolds; his son, Randy F. Reynolds of Lancaster; his daughter, Frances Catoe of Lancaster; his brother, Ollie Reynolds Jr. of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel and at other times at the home.

Harold Sims

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. Harold Wayne Sims, 40, of 4749 DeWitt Road died Friday, March 31, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at The Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Kenneth Compton and Edward Usher officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of High Point, N.C., Mr. Sims was a son of Coleman Sims and Viola Oliver Sims of Great Falls. He was a self-employed contractor and attended school in Great Falls.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Kimberly M. Sims; two daughters, Crissy A. Sims and Shelly L. Sims, both of Blackstock; two brothers, Randy Sims of Chester and Ricky Sims of Great Falls; and two sisters, Julie Blackwell of Blackstock and Kathy Edwards of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

James Smarr

YORK - Mr. James Robert Smarr, 87, of 504 Hunter St. died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Lancaster Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery.

A retired custodian for Duke Hospital in Durham, N.C., Mr. Smarr was a member of St. Mark Methodist Church in Durham and attended Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York.

Surviving are his daughter, Carrie Murchison of York; four sisters, Mildred Curry and Ozafee Smarr, both of Gastonia, N.C., and Virleen Littlejohn and Marie Smarr, both of York; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

Jerald Antram Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jerald C. Antram Sr., 56, of 294 Wayland Road died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randall Sharp officiating.

A native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Mr. Antram was a son of the late Orville Antram and Lois Antram. He was a facility engineer with Rockwell International in York and was a member of the Door of Hope Ministries in Camden. Mr. Antram was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam and was a member of the Duff-Norton Bass Club.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Antram; two sons, Jerald Antram Jr. and Michael Antram, both of Rochester, N.Y.; two brothers, Orville Antram II of Lewiston, N.Y., and Douglas Antram of Buena Vista, Fla.; his sister, Lori Myers of Fredonia, N.Y.; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel and other times at the home.

Violet Brandon

CLOVER - Mrs. Violet Newton Brandon, 86, of 1807 Ridge Road died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Rehabilitation Health Center of Gastonia in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Gess officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mrs. Brandon was a daughter of the late Charles Newton and Erla Newton. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Joseph Brandon.

Surviving are her son, Joseph "Billy" Brandon Jr. of Clover; her daughter, Myra Alexander of Clover; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home, Clover.
