TIGERVILLE - Mrs. Sarah Campbell Epting, 84, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at Laurel Hill Nursing Home in Pickens.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Tigerville Baptist Church. Burial will be at Dials Methodist Church in Gray Court.

A native of Gray Court, Mrs. Epting was the daughter of the late J. Russell Campbell and Lola Weathers Campbell.

She was a homemaker and a member of Tigerville Baptist Church where she was a member of Donnan Sunday school class and the Baptist Women's Group. She taught Sunday school at various churches.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Rev. B.I. Epting; her son, Dr. James "Jimmy" B. Epting of Tigerville; her daughter, Myra L. Epting of Columbia; her sister, Annie Campbell of Laurens; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Tigerville Baptist Church. The family will be at the home of James Epting, 9 Blackwell Road, Tigerville.

Memorials may be made to the B.I. Epting and Sarah Campbell Epting Endowment Fund for Needy Students, North Greenville College, P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, S.C. 29688.

Donnie Flowers

LANCASTER - Mr. Donnie Wayne Flowers, 59, of 2121 Florence Circle died Friday, April 7, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Flowers was the son of the late Neil Flowers and Nellie Lee Mangum Flowers.

He was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Miller Flowers of the home; two sons, Robert D. "Robbie" Flowers of Springfield, Va., and Donnie Curtis Flowers of Lancaster; his daughter, Julie Wade of Sumter; his sister, Carole Smith of Matthews, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, S.C. 29720 or the American Heart Association, Lancaster Division, P.O. Box 130, Lancaster, S.C. 29720.

Elmonia Graham

CHESTER - Mrs. Elmonia Sartor Graham, 79, of 112 Freedom Drive died Friday, April 7, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Neal officiating. Burial will be at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Union County, she was a daughter of the late Ulysses Grant Sartor and Marie Kennedy Sartor. She was the widow of George Billy Graham. She was a homemaker, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, was a member of the senior missionaries society and was a member of the CB and A Society. She attended Union County schools.

Surviving are her daughter, Ellaree G. Mills of Chester; her grandson, James Otis Hardin of the home; two granddaughters, Robin Kimberly Hemphill and Julia Marie Hemphill, both of the home; three brothers, John Sartor and Moses Sartor, both of Union, and Earl Sartor of Saint Albans, N.Y.; and nine sisters, Mary Good of Greensboro, N.C., Elizabeth Peake of Long Island, N.Y., Rosie Jeter of Spartanburg, Corrie Sartor, Carrie Sartor and Altonia Harris, all of Union, and Clarie Jeter, Vertelle Green and Pearl Sartor, all of Jamaica, N.Y.

The family will receive friends at the home. The body will lie in state at the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Denton Funeral Home.

Geraldine Jordan

FORT MILL - Mrs. Geraldine F. Jordan, 75, of 2796 Woodridge Drive died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Road Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Bass officiating.

A native of Detroit, Mrs. Jordan was a daughter of the late Joseph Lang and Helen Lang. She was the widow of Joseph Jordan.

Surviving are four sons, Guy Jordan of Alta, Utah, Gerald Jordan of Willits, Calif., Brian Jordan of Nevada City, Calif., and Joseph Jordan of Fort Mill; her daughter, Corrine Miles of Lyndonville, Vt.; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Joseph Jordan, 1835 Wimbleton Woods, Fort Mill, S.C. 29715.

Carter Monroe

ROCK HILL - Carter Carlisle Monroe, infant son of Jeff Monroe and Susie Monroe, of 311 Pennington Road died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tirzah ARP Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jan Senneker officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandfather, James C. Matthews of Rock Hill; his maternal grandmother, Carolyn C. Matthews of Rock Hill; his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Jeffords of Rock Hill; and his great-grandmother, Mary Holler Jeffords of Lake Junaluska, N.C.

Marvin Westerlund

ROCK HILL - Mr. Marvin Douglas "Tight" Westerlund, 78, of 991 Twin Lakes Road died Friday, April 7, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Revs. Dr. Shelton Sanford and Dr. Bill Fox officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Westerlund was the son of the late Charles Albert Westerlund and Annie Cameron Westerlund.

He was a disabled Army veteran of World War II, a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Rock Hill Rescue Squad, VFW, American Legion and the Hejaz Shrine Temple III.

Surviving are his wife, Bettie Westerlund; two daughters, Mary W. Elkins of Moncks Corner and June Westerlund of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Charles Mayes Sr.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Charles W. Mayes Sr., 53, formerly of Gastonia, N.C., died Saturday, April 8, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Charlotte chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, with the Rev. Mark Leonhardt officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Salisbury National Cemetery.

A native of Baltimore, Mr. Mayes was a son of the late Charles Stanley Mayes and Hazel Smith Mayes. He was a gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1975, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and a Combat Action medal. After his service in the Marines, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1975 to 1977. He was a member of the MVVA.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Mayes; his son, Chuck Mayes Jr. of Rock Hill; three daughters, Dawn Seagroves of York and Angela Mayes and Dana Mayes, both of Charlotte; two brothers, Dennis Mayes of Texas and Alton Mayes of California; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte chapel.

Jack Rowell

LANCASTER - Mr. Jack Robert Rowell, 75, of 2159 N. Rocky River Road died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Monroe, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Wilkes III officiating. Burial will follow with a presentation by the American Legion Post No. 31 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Rowell was a son of the late Shelly Hazel Howell and Ruth Thompson Rowell. He was a member of Taber-nacle United Methodist Church, was a retired employee of Springs Industries and was a World War II veteran. He was founder of Cub Scouts Pack No. 82 and Explorer Post No. 82, where he was a cub master explorer advisor. He participated 40 years in scouting and received the Silver Beaver and Palmetto awards. He served in the World War II 713 Flame Thrower battalion and served on the Buford school board, Lancaster County water district, Buford Booster Club. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Buford Fire Department. He was the Hope chairman and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 31 and Wannamaker Lodge No. 329.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Steele Rowell; his son, Ronnie Rowell of Lancaster; his daughter, Robin Rowell of Lancaster; two brothers, Archie Rowell and Bruce Rowell, both of Lancaster; and his sister, Grace Houghtaling of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Betty Smith

CHESTER - Mrs. Betty Gladden Smith, 69, of 2616 Mount Prospect Church Road died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris Snelgrove officiating.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late W. O. Gladden and Ethel Gladden. She was a homemaker who attended Chester County schools and was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Homer Smith.

Surviving are three sons, William "Bunny" Smith, Stanley Smith and Michael Smith, all of Chester; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

William Block

CLOVER - Mr. William Edward Block, 47, of 2765 Kingsbury Road died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at 309 Ruby Ave., Gastonia, N.C.

A mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Highlands, N.C., with the Rev. Father Carl DellJudice officiating. Burial will be at Highlands Memorial Park.

A native of Indianapolis, Mr. Block was a son of Mary Ryan of Florida and the late Edward Block. He was employed by Freightliner in Mount Holly and was a member of the Roman Catholic faith.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Cobb-Block, his stepdaughter, Lisa Cobb; his sister, Merry Block of Huntersville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

Claudette Burris

ELIZABETH, N.J. - Mrs. Claudette LaVonne Simril Burris of 515 Bond St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Trinitas Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roderick R. Pendleton Sr. officiating and the Rev. Thomas Barber will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Burris was a daughter of Audrey Simril of Rock Hill and the late Samuel Simril Jr. She attended Emmett Scott High School and was later the vice president of the New Jersey chapter of the Scottites. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she served in the fellowship hall, as a member of the Pastor's Aide Society and as the nurses aide.

She worked for George Washington School No. 1 for 27 years.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Hiram Burris; two sons, Reginald Burris and Anthony Burris, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Renee Burris of Rock Hill; six sisters, Mary Edeline and Ruth Fisher, both of Wilmington, Del., Cynthia Simril of Elizabeth and Rita Simril, Debra Tisdale-McDuffie and Vivian Simril-Sewell, all of Rock Hill; two brothers, James Simril of Rock Hill and Samuel Simril III of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Debra Tisdale-McDuffie, 478 Oates St., Rock Hill.

Annie Martin

FORT MILL - Mrs. Annie Rodgers Martin, 84, of 125 W. Gregg St. died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 6 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Holloway officiating. Burial will be at Arlington National Cem-etery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Martin was a daughter of the late William Oscar Rodgers and Sara Elizabeth Kirk Rodgers. She was a homemaker and was past member of Fort Mill's Garden Club.

Surviving are her husband, Furman H. Martin Jr.; two sons, Furman H. Martin III of Jupiter, Fla., and Oscar R. Martin of Fort Mill; her daughter, Eloise Martin Barnes of Fort Mill; her brother, Harry Rodgers of Sedalia, Mo.; two sisters, Ethel Bennett and Louise Beckham, both of Lancaster; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.
