Leroy Cowan

ROCK HILL - Mr. Leroy Cowan, 46, of 1527 Ellen Ave. died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Funeral Home, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A son of Irene Cowan of Rock Hill, Mr. Cowan was employed at Shoney's Restaurant. He attended Howard University and was a member of the Capital Ballet and Dance School of Harlem.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Lillie Shade; three daughters, Camille Shade, Autumn Shade and Ivory Shade, all of Rock Hill; his brother, James Wylie of Rock Hill; four sisters, Diane Cowan of Rock Hill and Maple Senior and Sophia Wylie, both of New Haven, Conn., and Catherine Ferguson of Wilaborugh, N.J.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Robert Crosby

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Robert Frank Crosby, 49, of Ella Jane Lane died Friday, April 7, 2000.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with Father John C. Pasco officiating.

A native of New Britain, Conn., Mr. Crosby was a son of Eunice Pasco Crosby of Barre, Vt., and the late Donald Frank Crosby. He was employed with En Pointe Technologies of Charlotte as a computer salesman. An avid cyclist, he was a member of the Tar Heel Cyclist Club. He also enjoyed photography and Latin culture.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his daughter, Robyn Elizabeth Crosby of Rock Hill; three sons, Robert Buckley Crosby of Cary, N.C., Richard Scott Dellinger of Orlando, Fla., and James Clinton Crosby of Munich, Germany; two sisters, Elizabeth C. Simpson of Greenville and Catherine C. Maynard of Mid-dletown, N.Y.; and his grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Tar Heel Cyclist, P.O. Box 35392, Charlotte, NC 28235.

Charles Gregory

CHESTER - Mr. Charles William "Tom" Gregory, 53, of 102 Pinckney St., Apt. B-1, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Kings Funeral Home, with the Rev. McKinley Miles officiating and evangelist Yvonne Hughes assisting. Burial will be at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Gregory was a son of the late Charles Gregory and Leora Gist Gregory. He attended the public schools of Chester County and was a former construction worker.

Surviving are three sons, Charles W. "Scottie" Bowler of Union, Darryl Bowler of Columbia and David Gregory of Chester; four sisters, Annie Bell Hairston of Philadelphia, Ruth Miles of Spartanburg, Shirlene Walker of Paterson, N.J., and Peggy Gregory of Chester; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Peggy J. Gregory, 102 Pinckney St., Apt. B-1.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today and and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Thomas Hudson

YORK - The Rev. Thomas Freeman Hudson, 67, formerly of 9 College St., York, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the South Carolina Episcopal Home in West Columbia.

Requiem Eucharist will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in York, with the Revs. Donald Lowery, James F. Lyon and the Rt. Rev. William Beckham officiating. Interment will be in the columbarium at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

A native of Orangeburg, the Rev. Hudson was a son of the late Edward Osborne Hudson and Lillian Freeman Hudson. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, Bexley Hall Episcopal Seminary and Winthrop University.

The Rev. Hudson served churches in Dayton, Ohio, Winnsboro, Ridgeway, Easley, Columbia, Abbeville, York and Kings Mountain, N.C. He served on the music commission and as a examining chaplain for the Diocese of the Upper South. The Rev. Hudson also was the Fourth Province Representative to the national Episcopal Diocesan Ecumenical Officers.

Active in Scottish heritage, he served 14 years as national chaplain of Clan Donald, USA, and was personal chaplain to Lord Macdonald of Macdonald. He was chaplain of the Stone Mountain Highland Games for several years. He served 20 years as a volunteer firefighter for the York Fire Department and was chairman of York's 1970 Tricentennial Celebration.

Surviving are his wife, Nadja Hudson; two sons, Guy Edward Hudson of York and Thomas Freeman Hudson Jr. of Elkridge, Md.; his brother, E.O. Hudson of Orangeburg; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for lunch at the parish hall after the service.

Frances Ramsbotham

SPRINGFIELD - Mrs. Frances Brown Cooke Ramsbotham, 64, of Cross Wind Circle died Monday, April 10, 2000.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Archer and Todd Felkel officiating. Burial will be in Morgantown Cemetery.

A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. Ramsbotham was a daughter of the late Jones Boyce Brown and Elizabeth Thompson Brown. She was retired as owner of Tax Contract Services Inc. in Greenville. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a former youth softball coach in the Furman Sansousi Community.

Surviving are her husband, Martin Francis Ramsbotham; two sons, Marvin Mark Cooke of Rock Hill and Calvin Scott Cooke of Campobello; her daughter, Cynthia Kim Buff of Inman; two brothers, Jones Marvin Brown and Ballard Brown, both of Inman; her sister, Betty Brown Cogdill of Inman; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home after the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Katie Roberts

KERSHAW - Mrs. Katie Talbert Roberts, 82, of 5715 Ernest Scott Road died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of the late Kirby Lewis Talbert and Rosie McCoy Talbert. She was the widow of Jim Vancy Roberts. She was a member of Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are two brothers, Jack Talbert of Kershaw and J.W. Talbert of Chester; and two sisters, Alma Vincent of Lancaster and Rosa Wilson of Edgemoor.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Lib Stone

FORT MILL - Mrs. Annie Elizabeth "Lib" Bradford Stone, 86, of Fort Mill died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Dan Holloway officiating.

A native of Fort Mill, Mrs. Stone was a daughter of the late William R. Bradford Sr. and Annie Culp Bradford. She was the widow of Ralph Stone. A homemaker, she was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her brother, William R. Bradford Jr. of Fort Mill.

Memorials may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church general fund, P.O. Box 1267, Fort Mill, SC 29716.

Grattan Miller

ESTERO, Fla. - Mr. Grattan "Buzz" Miller of Estero died Thursday, April 6, 2000.

The funeral was Sunday at Hodges Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Naples Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Miller was a graduate of Hialiah High School, class of 1963. He earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Florida at Gainesville. He was employed as an estimator for Fenton-Davis Painting of Naples, Fla.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine C. Miller; two stepchildren, Brooke Hagler and Todd Hagler, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Lillian Splaine of Port Richey, Fla.; two sisters, Jeanne Pyka of Miami and Barbara Fields of Snellville, Ga.

Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Lee County, Fla., or the ALS Association Naples Marco Branch, 1212 Lamplighter Court, Marco Island, FL 34145.

Eunice Lowery

LANCASTER - Mrs. Eunice Beckham Lowery, 87, of 2294 County Club Drive died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Grubbs. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Lowery was a daughter of the late William B. and Ida Eunice Beckham. She was the widow of Odell Lowery. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his son, Jerry Lowery of Lancaster; four sisters, Libby Pettit of Lancaster, Sadie Varnadore of Rock Hill, Bertha Parris of Shallotte, N.C., and Mattie Knight of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Charles Mayes Sr.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Charles W. Mayes Sr., 53, formerly of Gastonia, N.C., died Saturday, April 8, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at the Charlotte chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, with the Rev. Mark Leonhardt officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. today at Salisbury National Cemetery.

A native of Baltimore, Mr. Mayes was a son of the late Charles Stanley Mayes and Hazel Smith Mayes. He was a gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1975, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and a Combat Action medal. After his service in the Marines, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1975 to 1977. He was a member of the MVVA.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Mayes; his son, Chuck Mayes Jr. of Rock Hill; three daughters, Dawn Seagroves of York, and Angela Mayes and Dana Mayes, both of Charlotte; two brothers, Dennis Mayes of Texas and Alton Mayes of California; 10 grandchildren; and Carol Mayes, the mother of his children.

Joan Pundt

EDISTO ISLAND - Dr. Joan Schrader Pundt, 63, of 8551 Pope Landing, formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in an automobile accident in Charleston.

A memorial service will be announced.

Dr. Pundt received her undergraduate and master's degrees from Winthrop University, and she completed her doctorate at the University of South Carolina. She taught in Rock Hill area schools for 35 years, retiring in 1993 while at Sullivan Middle School. She went on to teach at Dalton State College in Dalton, Ga., for five years. Dr. Pundt retired to move to the couple's new home on Edisto Island, where she began teaching elementary school children in Cottageville, S.C.

She was active at Trinity Episcopal Church on Edisto Island, enjoyed singing with the community chorus, gardening and also was active with the local artist's guild.

Surviving are her husband, George Harold "Hal" Pundt Sr.; three sons, Harold Pundt Jr. and Steve Pundt, both of Rock Hill, and Ray Pundt of Lexington, N.C.; her father, Walter Schrader of Rock Hill; her sister, Elizabeth Johns of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

Christine Hemphill

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Christine Jackson Hemphill, 57, of 1817-A Fleetwood Drive in Charlotte, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Home. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery in Rock Hill.

A native of York County, Mrs. Hemphill was a daughter of Jack Jennings of Baltimore and the late Eula Mae Jennings. A silk finisher, Mrs. Hemphill was employed at Westover Dry Cleaners. She attended public schools in York County.

Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Wardell Hemphill of Charlotte; two sons, James Jackson of Rock Hill and Patrick Jackson of Concord, N.C.; three daughters, Gloria Jackson of Kannapolis, N.C., and Lorraine Jackson and Shirley Williams, both of Charlotte; three sisters, Mary Davis of Rock Hill, Margaret Johnson of New Jersey and Elizabeth Taylor of New York; 13 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Rich-mond Funeral Home and from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Home in Rock Hill. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Lorraine Jackson, 2513 Elon St., Charlotte.

Emily Roberts

YORK - Mrs. Emily May Davis Roberts, 70, of 1660 Moss Creek Drive died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Newport News, Va., Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of the late Fletcher Davis and Lola Davis. She was retired from Eckerd Drugs and was an employee of Wal-Mart in York. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God.

Surviving are her husband, James Roberts; two sons, Roger Smith of Houston and Wayne Smith of Greenwood, Mich.; her daughter, Beverly Oakley of Sandy Ridge, N.C.; her brother, Floyd Davis of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Grace Singletary of Farmville, Va., and Laura Etling of Scottsdale, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marvin Turner Jr.

WINNSBORO - Mr. Marvin Turner Jr. died recently in Fairfield County.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester, with the Rev. McKinley Washington officiating and Minister Israel Bunting assisting.

Surviving are five children; his mother, Frances Edward Turner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his father, the Rev. Marvin Frank Turner Sr. of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Melvin Turner and Aaron Turner, both of Brooklyn; four sisters, Latricha Turner, Frances Bowe, Brenda Turner and Lenore Turner, all of Brooklyn.

Donald Robertson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Donald Ernest Robertson, 62, of 1258 Roundtree Circle, died Monday, April 10, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Irmo, with the Revs. Ben Herlong and William Cross officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Robertson was a retired technician with Sears. He was a member of Catawba United Methodist Church, the Rock Hill Chapter of the Federation of the Blind and the Hurricane Hunt Club in Clinton. He worked with leather and wood and was an avid gardener.

Surviving are his wife, Lenora Bauknight Robertson; and his daughter, Ellen Konow Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
