Robert McCleave

McCONNELLS - Mr. Robert Ray McCleave, 59, of 5166 Chester Highway died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, with the Rev. George H. Lowry officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. McCleave was a son of the late Thad McCleave and Minnie Bell Hope McCleave. He was a retired insurance agent for N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Co., was an insurance broker for United American Insurance and was a part-time employee of Thrifty Car Rental.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Ann McCleave of Charlotte; his daughter, Diane Bower of Charlotte; three brothers, Johnny McCleave and Bernard McCleave, both of Charlotte, and James H. McCleave of McConnells; his sister, Lizzie Head of Charlotte; his stepmother, Bleeker McCleave of Charlotte; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his wife, Dorothy C. McCleave, 1237 Pressley Road, Charlotte.

Charles Bigham

BANGOR, Maine - Mr. Charles E. Bigham, 66, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, April 20, 2000.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Bigham was a son of James E. Bigham and Lela Bigham. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Carpenter's Union.

Surviving are two daughters, Wendy Bigham and Pammy Blackwell; two brothers, Richard Bigham and Jerry Bigham; two sisters, Sylvia Ward and Mona Lisa Rollins; and four grandchildren.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Judy Lunsford

CHESTER - Mrs. Judy Ann Foster Lunsford, 57, of 1137 R.L.'s Drive died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Uriel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Chapman officiating.

A native of Caldwell County, N.C., Mrs. Lunsford was a daughter of the late Eugene Ervin Foster and Mary Elizabeth Ragsdale Conner.

Surviving are three sons, William R. "Robbie" Revis Jr., Gene Lunsford and Roy Lunsford, all of Chester; her brother, John Foster of Texas; two sisters, Cathy Rollins of Charlotte and Mary Lee Barnes of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Ronald Beam

ROCK HILL -"Mr. Ronald Melvin Beam, 48, of 2378 Enola Drive died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be private.

A Rock Hill native, Mr. Beam was the son of Melvin O. Beam Jr. and the late Daphine Bradley Beam. He was a former employee of Hoechst Celanese Corp. and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his father are his two daughters, Bonte B. Reeder of Denver, N.C., and Tracy B. Rush of Rock Hill; his brother, Wayne Beam of Rock Hill; his sister, Rhonda B. Pruitt of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

Lucy Clemons

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lucy Sitgraves Clemons of 869 Finley Court died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roderick Pendleton officiating and the Rev. Dr. John T. McCoy and other ministers assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Catawba, she was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Catawba and attended Flint Hill Baptist Church. She was the owner and director of Clemons Funeral Home. She was also an educator in the Catawba and Spartanburg school systems for 21 years. She was a member of the Rose of Sharon Order of Eastern Star No. 30, where she was past Worthy Matron and a state Deputy for the S.C. Order of Eastern Star, was a member of Heroines of Jerico, was a member of the AP Society and was a member of Gamma Phi Delta sorority.

She was the widow of William B. Clemons.

Surviving are her daughter, Delcine Jones of the home; her son, William C. Jones of Charlotte; her brother, Thomas Sitgraves of Rock Hill; two sisters, Rita Sitgraves Foote of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Helen Sitgraves Lathan of Durham, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Clemons Funeral Home.

Charles Combs

CHESTER - Mr. Charles Austin Combs, 90, of Palmetto Village,

570A Center Road died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Chester County Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Chip Sneed officiating.

A native of Russell County, Va., Mr. Combs was a son of the late Adolphus Combs and Martha Ellen Dotson Combs. He was the widower of Essie Roberts Combs. Mr. Combs was the retired owner and operator of several clothing stores in the Richlands, Va., area. He attended schools in Russell County, Va., and was a member of Trinity Pres-byterian Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda Barrett of Chester; and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 651 Great Falls Highway, Chester, SC 29706.

Charles Evans

FORT LAWN - Mr. Charles Bascom Evans, 57, of 1568 Catawba River Road died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Myrtle Beach.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Brock officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Evans was a son of Beatrice Beckham Evans of Great Falls and the late Bascom Campbell Evans. Mr. Evans was employed with Bowater and was a graduate of Great Falls High School. He was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277 and Hejaz Shrine Temple.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Richie Evans of Great Falls; his daughter, Andr? Evans Shepherd of Irmo; three brothers, Clyde Evans of Ware Shoals, and Heyward Evans and Tommy Evans, both of Great Falls; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his mother, 5560-B Golf Course Road.

Memorials may be to Great Falls High School Athletic Scholarship Fund, 411 Sunset Ave., Great Falls, SC 29055.

William Edwards Sr.

ROCK HILL -"Mr. William Benjamin Edwards Sr., 81, of 428 Cummings St. died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Sonshine Village.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Lawn.

A native of Fort Lawn, Mr. Edwards was the son of the late Robert Lee Edwards and Alma Jordan Edwards. He was a member of Park Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and song leader. He was a retired supervisor of Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co. and formerly worked at Winn-Dixie and Community Cash food stores. He was a former board member and a trustee of Family Trust Credit Union and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the widower of Nell Griffin Edwards.

Surviving are his son, William B. Edwards Jr. of Catawba; two daughters, Janice E. Harpster and Susan E. Lowery both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Betty Robinson of Pittsburgh and Margaret Summerlin of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home of Susan Lowery, 4462 Homestead Road.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church, 717 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Thelma Hopkins

FLINT, Mich. - Mrs. Thelma Crank "Big Mama" Hopkins, 95, of Flint, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Willow Brook Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grandville Smith officiating. Burial will be at Flint Memorial Park.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Hopkins was a daughter of the late Grant Crank and Lillie Woods Crank. She was the widow of Henry Hopkins. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother's Board. She was a former member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, N.J.

Surviving are six sons, Marl Hopkins and Robert Hopkins, both of Flint, Ray Hopkins of Bronx, N.Y., Willie Hopkins of Rochester, N.Y., Fred Hopkins of Irvington, N.J., and Nathaniel Hopkins of Newark; six daughters, Maggie Lewis, Myrtle Gardin and Lillie Parks, all of Flint, Nellie Cooper and Hazel Coleman, both of East Orange, N.J., and Sara Albright of Nashville, Tenn.; 53 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, is in charge of local arrangements.

Eva Komar

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Eva Hoffman Komar, 83, of 1241 Eisenhower Road died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Anne Catholic Church, with Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Connely Springs, N.C., Mrs. Komar was a daughter of the late Harvey Alexander Hoffman and Ida Jane Ramsey Hoffman. She was a member of Saint Anne Catholic Church and Saint Martha's Circle. She was a partner of Cleveland Grill in Shelby, N.C., and she and her husband were partners of the Park Inn Grill and Restaurant in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew Michael Komar; her son, Michael A. Komar of Columbia; her sister, Hazel H. Neal of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home. A vigil will be held prior to visitation at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m.

Thomas Patrick Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas McFerrian Patrick Jr., 79, of 1330 India Hook Road died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Chester ARP Church, with the Rev. Dwight Pearson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

A native of Chester, Mr. Patrick was a son of the late Thomas M. Patrick and Ella Wylie Patrick. Mr. Patrick was a retired vice president of the Eastern Division of Duke Power Co. He was a graduate of Chester High School. He was a member of Chester ARP Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Shirley Patrick; his daughter, Jane Young of Germantown, Tenn.; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Westminster Tower, Rock Hill.

Hattie Tyus

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Hattie Drusilla Barber Tyus of 209 Sunset Drive died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance, with the Rev. Ronnie Baxter officiating. The Rev. W. H. Woods Jr., Pastor Mary Crosby and Evangelist Mary C. Barber will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Grandview memorial Park. She was the widow of Robert Tyus.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Tyus attended Chester County public schools and was a member of Rehobeth AME Zion Church. She later moved to Detroit where she joined Triad Stone Baptist Church. She was a member of the senior choir and usher board.

Surviving are her brother, John Wesley Barber of Rock Hill; and her sister, Maggie B. Brown of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Friday until the hour of service.

Phyllis White

LANCASTER - Mrs. Phyllis "Ann" Wallace White of 1239 Wilma Drive died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Gold Hill AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Deborah Waddell officiating and the Rev. Reid R. White Jr. assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. White was the daughter of Mrs. Beulah Mae Wallace of Fort Mill and the late Mayo Wallace Jr. A graduate of Fort Mill High School, she was employed at TJ Maxx. She was a member of Gold Hill AME Zion Church. She was a member of Y.A.M.S.

Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband, Edward T. White; two sons, Edward Lejuan Wallace and Maurice O'Brian White, both of the home; her grandmother, Mrs. Annie Wallace of Marvin, N.C.; two sisters, Kay A. Strong and Carolyn W. Truesdale, both of Lancaster County; and two brothers, Eugene Wallace of Lancaster County and Bobby Wallace of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Gold Hill AME Zion Church and other times at the residence.

The body will be placed in the church 1 p.m. Friday.

Lucille Bright

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Lucille Byars Bright, 76, formerly of 184 Craton Road died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the home of her daughter.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, with the Revs. Ken Reid, Don Whitener and M.P. Hampton officiating. Burial will be at Clingman Memorial Gardens.

A native of Cherokee County, Mrs. Bright was the daughter of the late Charlie Byars and Eula Painter Byars. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Forever Young club and the women's missionary society. She was the widow of Clyde James Bright.

Surviving are five sons, Kenneth Bright, Larry Bright and Rodney Bright, all of Blacksburg, Ronnie Bright of Gaffney and Danny Bright of Supply, N.C.; three daughters, Gloria Bruce of Gaffney, Angela Grainger of Valdosta, Ga., and Sandra VonCannon of Asheboro, N.C.; two brothers, Walter Byars of Rock Hill and Bufford Byars of Blacksburg; three sisters, Mattie Rumfelt, Dorothy Mullinax and Wilma Kukyendoll, all of Blacksburg; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at First Baptist Church of Blacksburg and other times at 535 Stateline Road, Gaffney.

The body may be viewed one hour before the service.
