Bonnie Demby

ROCK HILL - Mr. Bonnie Lee Demby Sr., 84, of 1 Pitts St. died Friday, April 28, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Lafon Hardy and Jack Walters officiating.

Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Demby was a son of the late James E. Demby Sr. and Maggie Helms Demby.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Rock Hill Elk's Lodge No. 1318 and the Promanators Square Dance Club.

He was the owner and operator of Demby's Service Station and Barney's Grocery.

Surviving are his wife, Lula Ballard Demby; his son, Bonnie L. Demby Jr. of Rock Hill; three daughters, Nancy D. Rainer and Becky D. Barr, both of York and Margaret D. Tiller of Rock Hill; his brother, James H. Demby Sr. of Rock Hill; his sister, Isabelle Hood of Travelers Rest; his niece, Brenda Louellen of Fort Mill, whom he raised; his caregiver, Rose Demby of Rock Hill; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home.

William Edwards Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Benjamin Edwards Sr., 81, of 428 Cummings St. died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Sonshine Village.

The funeral was Friday at Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Lawn.

A native of Fort Lawn, Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Robert Lee Edwards and Alma Jordan Edward.

He was the widower of Nell Griffin Edwards.

Mr. Edwards was a member of Park Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and song leader.

He was a retired supervisor at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing and formerly worked at Winn-Dixie and Community Cash food stores.

He was a former board member and trustee of Family Trust Credit Union.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his son, William B. Edwards Jr. of Catawba; two daughters, Janice E. Harpster and Susan E. Lowery, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Betty Robinson of Pittsburgh and Margaret Summerlin of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Susan Lowery, 4462 Homestead Road, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church, 717 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Beth Green

LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Beth Bennett Green, 68, of 11 Hamilton's Bay Court, Clover, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Hutchinson officiating.

Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Green was a daughter of the late William Eugene Bennett and Ruth Parrish Bennett.

She was the widow of Marshall D. Green.

Mrs. Green retired from Dr. Patrick's office after 23 years of service, and she was a member of First United Methodist Church .

Surviving are her son, David Green of Clover; two daughters, Carol Landis of Lake Wylie and Marsha Baker of Kershaw; her brother, James Taze Bennett of Clover; her sister, Gene Parrish Bennett of Clover; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Gene Bennett, 185 Lawson Lakes in Clover.

James House

ROCK HILL - Mr. James B. "J.B." House of 338 State St. died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Barber Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. J.E. Boulware officiating.

Mr. House attended the public schools of York County and was a member of Cross Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are his brother, Willie Edward House of Rock Hill; and his sister, Bessie Whitlock of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

Albert Johnson

YORK - Mr. Albert Miles Johnson, 91, of 562 Sutton Springs Road died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sharon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Bozard officiating.

Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Lindsey Johnson and Neely Faile Johnson.

He was retired from Gayle Mills in Chester and was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Hoffman Johnson; his son, Albert H. Johnson of York; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, 3001 Shannon St., Sharon, SC 29742 or York County Hospice, 325 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Florence Lockhart

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Florence Bailey Lockhart, 56, of 1166 Sensation Road died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be noon Monday at Grandview Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Hogg officiating.

A native of Panther, W.Va., Mrs. Lockhart was a daughter of the late James Bailey and Lucy Justice Bailey.

Retired from Juno Plastic as a machine operator, she was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Jimmie Lockhart; her son, Dwayne Lockhart of Rock Hill; two daughters, Lucy Kimsey of Chester and Sharon Carpenter of York; four brothers, Robert Bailey Jr. of Mountain City, Tenn., Bill Bailey and Roy Bailey, both of Panther, and Hebert Bailey of Iaeger, W.Va.; two sisters, Darcus Lester of Welch, W.Va., and Glennis McCloud of Terre Haute, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Lockhart's brother, Minus Bailey of Panther, died Saturday, April 29, 2000.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Edna Mattox

LANCASTER - Mrs. Edna Collins Mattox, 70, of Lancaster died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with the Revs. David Ward and Larry Helm officiating.

Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Wadesboro, N.C., Mrs. Mattox was a daughter of the late John Clemmer Collins and Josephine Dawkins Collins.

She was retired from Maloney Plumbing Company, was a member of Second Baptist Church and was one of the first inductees of the Lancaster High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Surviving are her daughter, Paula Tucker of Charlotte; two sisters, Sarah Hardin of Lancaster and Clara Lockhart of Columbia; and her grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Sarah Hardin, 1607 Hillcrest Ave.

Memorial may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Bryan Northrup

WILMINGTON, Del. - Mr. W. Bryan Northrup, 83, of 4830 Kennett Pike died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Methodist Country House.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with Drs. R. Boyce Wilson and John A. Basie officiating. Burial will be at Ebenezer ARP Church cemetery.

Mr. Northrup retired after 30 years as an engineer at the DuPont Louviers Building.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Julia Mickle Northrup; two sons, Walter Northrup of West Grove, Pa., and James B. Northrup of Richmond, Va.; his daughter, Sarah DiAngelo of Townsend, Del.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Billy Paul

SOUTHSIDE, Ala. - Mr. Billy D. Paul, 62, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Riverview Regional Hospital in Gadsden, Ala.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Anniston Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Tim Bailey officiating.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Paul was a son of the late Willie Paul and Velma Paul.

He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Teamsters' Union.

Surviving are two sons, W. Howard Paul of Southside and Mark Paul of Webster's Chapel, Ala.; three daughters, Kathy Yow of Kingsville, Texas, and L. Kay Paul and Tracy Marshall, both of Southside; his sister, Bobbie McElhany of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

Elise Simpson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elise G. Simpson, 80, of 1920 Ebenezer Road died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Sterling House of Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. today at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road in Piedmont, with the Rev. Calvin Holland officiating.

A native of Carnesville, Ga., Mrs. Simpson was a daughter of the late Albert L. Garrison and Amy Brown Garrison.

She was the widow of Robert T. Simpson.

A retired seamstress, Mrs. Simpson was a member of Fair Heights Baptist Church in Greenville and was a member of the Dunean Mother's Club for 40 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Peggie P. Najim of Rock Hill; two granddaughters; and her great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Children's Attention Home, 360 Park Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
