YORK - Mrs. Wilma Bridges Brindle, 68, of 1022 Sharon Road died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside will be 11 a.m. today at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Pastor James Strickland officiating.

A native of Bryson City, N.C., Mrs. Brindle was a daughter of Robert Bridges and Lucy Cockran Bridges. She was a widow of Dan Brindle. She was a retired weaver at Fieldcrest Cannon mills in York.

Surviving are two sons, Mack Brindle of Rock Hill and Frank Brindle of York; her daughter, Darlene Brindle Brakefield of Clover; two brothers, Jimmy Bridges of Homestead, Fla., and David Bridges of Romi, W.Va.; three sisters, Viloa Brindle and Jean Brady of Bryson City and Minnie Myraglod of Apple Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren,

Memorials may be made to York County Hospice, 325 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

John Faile

FORT MILL - Mr. John Flanagon "Johnnie" Faile, 72, of 699 Gold Hill Road died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Griffin and the Rev. James Herron officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Hill Church Cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Faile was a son of the late Joseph S. Faile Sr. and Rebecca Parker Faile. He was a widower of Juanita Justus Faile and Betty Carlisle Rollings Faile.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army, A Battery 37th Artillery at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was retired from J.P. Stevens where he worked for almost 40 years. He was a member of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Atmer E. Faile of Ocala, Fla., and Edger Gwynne Faile of Fort Mill; four sisters, Julia F. Sherer of Rock Hill and Dorcas Chapman, Betty Lambert and Rebecca Jean Cardillo, all of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends at the home, 699 Gold Hill Road, Fort Mill.

Laura Gorham

LANCASTER - Mrs. Laura Ellen Johnson Gorham, 22, of 1804 Mangum Drive died Thursday, May 4, 2000.

The graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at West Side Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Gorham was a daughter of Conrad Harrison Johnson and Ellen Blackwell Payne.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Steven Lee Gorham; her son, Christopher Lee Gorham of Lancaster; her daughter, Christina Nicole Gorham of Lancaster; three brothers, Stanley H. Johnson, Eddie Dwayne Johnson and Jerry Lee Johnson, all of Lancaster; and her sister, Nancy Darlene Mangum of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home's Lancaster Chapel and other times at the home.

William Lancaster

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Carlisle Lancaster, 78, of 1204 Sullivan St. died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Neely's Creek ARP Church, with the Revs. Bill Fleming and Jan Senneker officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of West Springs, Mr. Lancaster was a son of the late Clifton Carlisle Lancaster and Lucille Beck Lancaster. He was a retired driver for Atlantic-Greyhound Corp., was member and past master of Masonic Lodge No. 111 in Rock Hill and the York County Hejaz Shrine Club. He was a member of Neely's Creek ARP Church where he served as elder and deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Claire Reynolds Lancaster; two daughters, Billie Lancaster Summey of Rock Hill and Melanie Lancaster Cook of York; his brother, Charles Wright Lancaster of Greensboro, N.C.; his sister, Greta Lancaster Yarborough of Hopkins; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Jim Lewis

FORT MILL - Mr. James Frederick "Jim" Lewis, 63, of 1155 Fort Mill Highway died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Richburg.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Edgar McCall officiating.

A native of Clay, W.Va., Mr. Lewis was a son of the late Forrest M. Lewis and Lela Branch Bragg Lewis. He was the owner and operator of Jim Lewis Erectors. He was a member of Doby Bridge Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Rock Hill Moose Lodge No. 1720. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Katie Young Lewis; his daughter, Trudy Crawford of Charlotte; four stepsons, Charles D. Catoe of Shreveport, La., and Richard Davis Catoe, Glenn Y. Oliver and Steve Catoe, all of Catawba; his stepdaughter, Mary O. Kimbrell of Richburg; his brother, Tom Lewis of Rainelle, W.Va.; three sisters, Phyllis Lewis Langford of Concord, N.C., Oleta Lewis Gray of Stanley, N.C., and Eunice Lewis Thomas of Harrison, W.Va., 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, and other times at the home.

James Totherow

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Lee "Jimmy" Totherow, 58, of 878 1/2 Eastwood Drive died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. at Greene Funeral Home, downtown chapel, with Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Totherow was a son of the late James William Totherow and Myrtle Kennington Totherow. He was a former employee of J.P. Stevens Industrial Plant, where he had 25 years of service. He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Phillip Totherow and Johnny Totherow, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Carolyn Frye and Vonnie Kludy, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, George W. Totherow and Arthur Wayne Totherow, both of Rock Hill; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home's downtown chapel and at other times at the home of his daughter, Carolyn Frye, 2861 Saluda Road, Rock Hill.

Virginia Faulkenberry

HEATH SPRINGS - Mrs. Virginia Truesdale Faulkenberry, 86, of 2611 Cinnamon Drive died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Springdale Healthcare in Camden.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Thorn Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. John Davis and Leon Lancaster officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Faulkenberry was a daughter of the late Luther Truesdale and Belle Truesdale. Mrs. Faulkenberry was the widow of L.C. Faulkenberry. She was a member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are two sons, Marvin Faulkenberry of Heath Springs and Bruce Faulkenberry of Kershaw ; two brothers, L.D. Truesdale of Campobello and William Truesdale of Kershaw; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral and at other times at the home.

Alexander Fewell Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Alexander "Tut" Faulkner Fewell Sr., 93, of 852 Milton Ave. died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. William Pender officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Fewell was a son of the late Edward Fewell and Mamie Dinkins Fewell. He was the widower of Louise Peace Fewell. Mr. Fewell was the owner of A.F. Fewell Real Estate Co. and was the co-owner of Edward Fewell Cotton. Co. and Fewell Feed and Fertilizer at 130 W. White St. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.

Surviving are two sons, Alexander F. Fewell Jr. of Rock Hill and Benjamin M. Fewell of Fort Mill; two daughters, Peace Fewell Gaston of Denmark and Margaret Fewell Kemp of Reidsville, N.C.; his sister, Mary Gwen Blair of Gastonia, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

George Floyd

LANCASTER - Mr. George Michael Floyd Jr., 38, of 2094 Hough Road died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lancaster Church of God,

with the Rev. Lacy Jones officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Floyd was a native of Fort Benning, Ga.

Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Graves Floyd; two stepsons, Jeffery Sawyer of Charlotte and Jason Stillwell of Lancaster; his stepdaughter, Angela Sawyer of Charlotte; his father, George M. Floyd of Phoenix City, Ala.; his brother, Joey Floyd of Crafton, Ky.; and his sister, Jane Craft of Craft, Ky.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jason Stillwell and Jennifer Stillwell, 2090 Hough Road, Lancaster.

Don Thrift

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Mr. Don P. Thrift, 60, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Gateway Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery in Clarksville, with the Rev. James Clegg officiating.

Born in Shelby, N.C., Mr. Thrift was a son of the late Burt A. Thrift Sr. and Sallie Camp Thrift. He was an electrician. Of the Baptist faith, he was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his son, Donovan A. Amundson Jr. of Clarksville; his daughter, Leigh Anne Thrift of Clarksville; three brothers, Burt Thrift Jr. and Marion Thrift, both of Rock Hill, and Ralph Thrift of York; his sister, Doris T. Garrick of York; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Pleasant View Baptist Church.

James Nugent

CHARLOTTE - Mr. James Thomas Nugent, 60, of Charlotte died Friday, May 5, 2000.

A graveside services will be later this week.

A native of Whiting, Ind., Mr. Nugent was a son of the late Lovell Nugent and Eva Cahill Nugent. He was a painting contractor for more than 40 years in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela Nugent; eight children; Kenneth Nugent, Dana Nugent, Betty Smith, Brenda Patton, Lesa Wehlauch, Connie Nugent, James Thomas Nugent Jr. and Jerry Nugent, all of Indiana; two sisters; four brothers; and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight and Wednesday at McEwen Funeral Home, Pineville chapel.

George Wallen

CHESTER - Mr. George Wallen, 80, of 726 Webber Ave. died Monday, May 8, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Word and Spirit Christian Fellowship, with the Revs. David Levister and Kenneth Compton officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Blackwater, Va., Mr. Wallen was a son of the late McKinley Wallen and Lizzie Staffie Wallen. Mr. Wallen was a carpenter and attended Word and Spirit Christian Fellowship.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn B. Wallen; his daughter, Daisy Wade of Chester; his brother, Roy Wallen of Savannah, Ga.; five sisters, Myrtle Wallen of Spartanburg and Cora Wallen, Marie Backley, Nancy Lincoln and Mary Rousey, all of Connecticut; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Bobby Whaley

CLOVER - Mr. Bobby Dee Whaley, 60, of 319 Davidson Road died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harry Bryant officiating.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Mr. Whaley was a son of the late Jackson Oliver Whaley and Minnie Ezelle Shultz Whaley. He was a member of Bowling Green Baptist Church. He was a employed by Fiber Control of Gastonia, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Hensley Whaley; his son, Mark Edward Whaley of Clover; two brothers, J.C. Whaley and Joey Whaley, both of Maryville, Tenn.; two sisters, Diane Rose and Donna Whaley, both of Maryville; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.
