GASTONIA, N.C. - Miss Alicia Elaine Jones, 16, of Yellowstone Court, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Dallas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Austin, Texas, Miss Jones was a student and was employed at Sonic Drive-In in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her parents, Ray and Donna Habrial Jones of Gastonia; her brother, Bradley Wayne Jones of Gastonia; her maternal grandparents, Elaine and Don Habrial of Ocala, Fla.; and her paternal grandparents, Geraldine and Roy Talbot of Pleasanton, Texas, and Bill and Janice Jones of San Antonio, Texas.

The family will receive friends at noon Thursday and after the service.

Norma Smith

LANCASTER - Mrs. Norma Cauthen Jordan Smith, 100, of Cedar Pines Lake died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Robert K. Barrows Jr. and Roy Barnes. Burial will be at West Side Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late James Andrew Cauthen and Ellen Crenshaw Cauthen. Mrs. Smith was twice married, first to the late Ernest G. Jordan and then to Ray F. Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Oasis Club, the Golden Circle, the TEL Sunday school class, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Evening Garden Club. She was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are two daughters, Emma Ross Gettys of Manning and Harriett Hamrick of Lancaster; her stepson, Dr. Ray Hoyle Smith of Cherryville, N.C.; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Harriett and Tom Hamrick, 1335 W. Shore Drive, Lancaster.

Willie Weldom

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Mrs. Willie M. Weldom, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at a Harrisburg nursing home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Harrisburg.

Surviving are three sisters, Annie M. Eaves, Thelma M. Pickett and Edna M. Patterson, all of Rock Hill; and two brothers, Moses Murray of Chester and Luther Murray of Harrisburg.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Samuel Giles

FORT MILL - Mr. Samuel Ambross Giles, 78, formerly of Grier Street, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at White Oak Manor in York.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Mill Church of God, with the Rev. David Kemp officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Van Wyck, Mr. Giles was a son of the late Benjamin Giles and Bessie Armillia Jane Giles. Mr. Giles was the widower of Theda Turner Giles. He was retired from American Barmag of Charlotte and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fort Mill Church of God since 1949 and was a member of Fort Mill American Legion Post No. 43.

Surviving are three sons, Donald "Don" Samuel Giles and L.D. Giles, both of Fort Mill, and Ernest Giles of Lancaster; two daughters, Doris Giles Hubbard of Fort Mill and Vallaree Blackwell of Rock Hill; two sisters, May Crenshaw of Fort Mill and Emmy Giles Crump of Greensboro, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Fort Mill Church of God and at other times at the home of Vallaree Giles Blackwell, 1376 Longview Road, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Fort Mill Church of God building fund, 221 Academy St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Sonny Douglas Jr.

YORK - Mr. Cyril Nathan "Sonny" Douglas Jr., 60, of 2302 Kingsberry Road died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald E. Holland officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Martin, Douglas was a son of Lessie Louise Sanford Thomas of Rock Hill and the late Cyril Nathan Douglas Sr. He retired from Kline Iron and Steel after 20 years of service and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Cayce.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Cyril Nathan "Sonny" Douglas III of Gaston; his daughter, Christine Douglas of Erie, Pa.; his brother, Joe Douglas of Blackstock; his stepfather, Walter S. Ziegler of York; his stepbrother, John W. Zeigler of Sumter; his sister, Cheryle Parker of Gaston; and three stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel, and other times at the home.

Julius Yoder Sr.

VAN WYCK - Mr. Julius Middleton Yoder Sr., 86, of 8130 Van Wyck Road died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Van Wyck Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Randy McSpadden officiating. Entombment will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A native of Lancaster County, Yoder was a son of the late Cecil Randolph Yoder and Cora Middleton Yoder. A retired plant manager, he was a member of Van Wyck Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Eve Morris Yoder; his son, Julius Middleton Yoder Jr. of Rock Hill; three daughters, Julia Frances Whitmire of Van Wyck, Cecelia Yoder McCall of Rock Hill and Joann Wright of Ridgeway; his brother, Robert T. "Pete" Yoder of Van Wyck; three sisters, Myrtle Lee Dobson of Lancaster, Mary McGillacuddy of Charlotte and Clyde Helen Lickey of Richmond, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Ruby Snow

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruby C. Snow, 85, of 1330 India Hook Road died Monday, May 8, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church chapel, with the Revs. John Fastenau and William A. Fox officiating.

A native of New Britain, Conn., where she lived for 69 years, Mrs. Snow was a daughter of the late August and Elin Olson. She was the widow of Paul. R. Carlson. She attended New Britain schools and graduated as a registered nurse from the new Britain General Hospital School of Nursing in 1936, attended New York University and taught nursing arts at her own school. During World War II, she returned to New Britain to serve as assistant director of nursing. She retired as a school nurse in 1985, and she and her husband moved to South Carolina. Mrs. Snow was active in her church and was a Red Cross volunteer for more than 30 years.

Surviving are her husband, Charles E. Snow; two sons, Dennis J. Carlson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dale S. Carlson of Des Plaines, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Karen Snow and Myrva Hand; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Billy Brand Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Rogers "Billy" Brand Jr., 57, of 4863 Pennington Meadow Circle died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Cemetery.

A native of Fort Benning, Ga., Mr. Brand was a son of Leyburn Clanton Brand of Rock Hill and the late William Rogers Brand. He was a member of Park Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother is his brother, Mike Brand of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Joseph Anderson Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Joseph "Joe" Anderson Sr. of 1945 Oak Pond Road died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Thompson officiating and the Rev. Johnny Caldwell Jr. giving the eulogy. Assisting them will be the Revs. Jerry Gadsden, Robert Shuler, Osbey Roddey and Harvey Dickson. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Anderson was a son of the late Mary Blake Anderson and the Rev. E.S. Anderson. He was a member of Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was past chairman of the Deacon Board, superintendent of the Sunday school, a member of the hymn choir and past president of the usher board. He was a member of Archive Masonic Lodge No. 149 in Edgemoor. He was a member of the AP Society No. 13. He attended public schools of York County.

Surviving are three sons, Joseph G. Anderson Jr. of Richmond Hill, N.Y., Charles Anderson of New York, and James Anderson of Rock Hill; three daughters, Sarah Wherry and Beatrice Dunham, both of Rock Hill, and Emma Thompson of Balliston, N.Y.; her sister, Jeanette Lewis of Decatur, Ga.; his grandson whom he raised, Randy E. Anderson of Rock Hill; 18 other grandchildren; 28 greatgrandchildren; and seven great-great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.

Michael Walden

CLOVER - Michael James Ivey Walden, infant son of Thomas Leroy Walden of Clover and Cynthia Lynn Ivey of Wellford, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Tommy Hope officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandparents, Edward Ivey of Spartanburg and Teresa Ivey of Clover; his paternal grandparents, Michael and Renee Walden of Clover and Vicky Hill Walden of Clover; his maternal great-grandparents, Eva and Jimmy Barker of Gastonia, N.C., and Bobby Ivey of York; his paternal great-grandparents, Leroy and Lena Walden of Clover and Thomas Hill Sr. of Clover; and his maternal great-great-grandmother, Geneva Mason of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at M.L. Ford Sons Funeral Home.

CHESTER - Mrs. Hortense Elizabeth Smith Elwell, 86, of 104 Mobley St. died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church chapel, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.

A native of Whitmire, Mrs. Elwell was a daughter of the late Troy Clyde Smith Sr. and Ethel Morris Smith. She was the widow of Robert Elwell. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are her brother, T.C. Smith Jr. of Easley; her sister, Ruth Massey of Hartsville; and her grandson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Church Street, Chester, SC 29706.

Edna Graves

KERSHAW - Mrs. Edna Mary Blackmon Graves, 80, of 303 W. Richland Ave. died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Presbyterian Home in Florence.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Buddy Bach officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Graves was a daughter of the late Leon Blackmon and Erin Molly Magill Blackmon. She was the widow of John M. Graves. A homemaker, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three sons, John Douglas Graves of Kershaw, Dr. James Blackmon Graves of Rochester, N.Y., and Dr. Stephen Bundy Graves of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at home.

Memorials may be made to the Graves Scholarship Fund or the building fund at First Presbyterian Church, North Cleveland Street, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Alice Proctor

CHESTER - Mrs. Alice Samuel Proctor, 73, of 120 Pinckney St. died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Pam Nations, in Spartanburg.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, with the Revs. Dr. Mark Durrett and Marc Mason officiating.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Proctor was a daughter of the late Melvin Lewis Samuels and Eula McManus Samuels. She was the widow of Samuel Thompson Proctor. She was formerly employed with the U.S. Secretary of the Navy at The Pentagon, Canal Wood Corp., and she retired from the office of Dr. Malcolm L. Marion. She was a graduate of Chester County schools and Georgetown University in Washing-ton. She was a lifetime member of Purity Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and youth adviser.

Surviving are two daughters, Kim Hinson of Lancaster and Pam Nations ; three sisters, Esther S. Collins of Rock Hill, Ada S. Buchanan of Charlotte and Jean S. Marshall of Lake Wylie; and four grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.
