Patrick Long Jr.

MACON, Ga. - Mr. Patrick D. Long Jr., 25, of 1702 Scholsfield St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, in Macon.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Ralph V. Washington officiating and the Revs. John Brown, Paul F. Long Sr., Walter B. White and J. Thomas Barber assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native Rock Hill, Mr. Long was a son of Patrick D. Long Sr. of Rock Hill and Bennie Y. Long of Green-wood. He attended the public schools of York County. He was employed by Wendy's restaurants of Macon.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his stepmother, Debra J. Long of Rock Hill; his son, Tremane Good of Macon; two stepbrothers, Naron Johnson and Rashawn Hall, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Anica P. Long of Rock Hill; his stepsister, Shawnnequa Brice of Rock Hill; his paternal grandparents, Harry and Hester Collins of Rock Hill; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth Young of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church.

Geneva Street

BOSTIC, N.C. - Mrs. Geneva Quinton Street, 79, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Oak Grove Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Crowe's Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Cool Springs Cemetery.

A native of Union, Mrs. Street is the daughter of the late George and Amanda Worley Quinton.

Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Mitchem of Forest City, N.C., Martha Hamrick of Duncan and Nancy White of Rock Hill; her brother, James Quinton of Forest City, N.C.; three sisters, Maggie Ensley of Ruth, N.C., Georgia Young of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Mirth Street of Bostic; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Rutherford County Hospice, P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043.

Crowe's Mortuary and Chapel is in charge.

Edward Stroud

LITTLE RIVER ­ Mr. Edward "Eddie" Eugene Stroud, 52, of 4445 Kingsport Road, Unit 202, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at home.

The graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Stroud was the son of the late J. T. Stroud Jr. and Lillian Morgan Stroud. He was a construction supervisor for 12 years with R Griffin Co. of Charlotte. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his son, Anthony Stroud of Rock Hill; three brothers, Barney Stroud, Timmy Stroud and Buddy Stroud, all of Rock Hill; and his sister, Janet Stroud of Edgemoor.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and other times at the home of his sister, Janet Stroud of Edgemoor.

Garland Parker

LANCASTER - Mr. Garland Parker, 72, of 135 Monroe Highway died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Camp Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Cecil Johnson and Lester Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Parker was the son of the late Fraymond Parker and Barbara Bolton Parker. He owned and operated Parker's Speed Shop, and was a race car driver at the Lancaster Speedway from 1954 to 1999. He served in the Navy Sea Bee's and was stationed in Guam and Saipan during World War II. He was a member of Camp Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Levon Thomas Parker; his son, Everett Neal Parker of Heath Springs; two daughters, Janice Baker of Lancaster and Shirley Caskey of Heath Springs; two brothers, Hunter Parker of Rock Hill and James Parker of Chester; and four sisters, Helen Peek of Edgemoor and Inez Gaskins, Joanne Auten and Geraldine Parrish, all of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Memorials may be sent to Camp Creek Baptist Church, 998 Potter Road, Lancaster SC 29720.

Oscar Peach

KERSHAW - Mr. Oscar Nelson Peach, 61, of 4019 Old Georgetown Road died Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Young officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Peach was the son of the late Oscar Peach and Minnie Baker Peach. He was employed by Springs Industries. He was in the National Guard for 12 years and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Young Peach; his son, Mitchell G. Baker; three daughters, Lisa Loy and Debra Baker Doster, both of Kershaw, and Teresa Polson of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Willene Walls of Aiken and Barbara Watson of Camden; his granddaughter, Amy Branham of the home; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel and other times at the home.

Edmond Dessingue Jr.

MONROE, N.C. - Mr. Edmond Wendell Dessingue Jr., 46, of 211 S. Thompson St. died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Union Regional Medical Center.

A native of Rutherford, N.J., Mr. Dessingue was a son of Ruth Todd Dessingue of Lincoln Park, N.J, and the late Edmond W. Dessingue Sr. He worked as an electrician for Preferred Electric Co. in Charlotte for the past nine years. He was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Cecilia R. Dessingue; two daughters, Danielle Dessingue and Colette Dessingue, both of the home; three sisters, Claudia Dessingue of Lincoln Park, N.J., Deidra Holoran of Arlington, Va., and Audrey Dessingue of West Town, N.Y.; and his brother, Stephen Dessingue of Boca Raton, Fla.

The family will receive friends 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright's Home for Funerals in Chester.

Mary Doster

CHESTER - Mrs. Mary Adkins Doster, 90, of 142 Walnut St. died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Chester County Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.

A native of York County, Mrs. Doster was a daughter of the late Robert Adkins and Mattie Dillingham Adkins. Mrs. Adkins was a member of First Baptist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. She graduated from Winthrop College and became a registered nurse.

Surviving are her husband, Heyward M. Doster; two daughters, Ann D. McKay and Sarah D. Witt, both of Chester; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 102 Church St., Chester, SC 29706.

Harry Hilderbrand

CLOVER - Mr. Harry Neil Hilderbrand, 75, of 201 Faulkner St. died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at his home.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Paul Hutchinson officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Hilderbrand is a son of the late C. Miles Hilderbrand and Frances Stewart Hilderbrand. He retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing after 31 years and worked 12 years for the Clover school district. He was an Army veteran and was a Mason in Alpine Lodge 208. He was a member of the Shrine.

Mr. Hilderbrand was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was active in the men's Bible class and Methodist men's club.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel Lee Pursley Hilderbrand; two sons, Terry Hilderbrand from Douglasville, Ga., and Van Hilderbrand from Clemson; his brother, Oblee Hilderbrand of Hartsville; his sister, Buree Pendleton of Dallas, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Friday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Clover. Memorials may be made at First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 124 Bethel St., Clover, SC or Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Beatrice Giles

WINNSBORO - Beatrice Johnson Giles, formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Fairfield Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at New Hope AME Zion Church in Winnsboro.

Her brother, Walter Riley of Rock Hill, survives.

Local arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home of Rock Hill.

Edward Hinson Sr.

ROCK HILL ­ Mr. Edward "Ed" Hinson Sr., 77, of 1330 India Hook Road died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Westminster Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Bass Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Mike Lowery officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hinson was a son of the late Annie K. Hinson and William E. Hinson. He was the widower of Thelma Hinson Hinson. He retired from Duke Power, and was a member of West End Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Hinson was a Shriner and a member of Masonic Lodge 111.

Surviving are two sons, Edward O. Hinson Jr. of Rock Hill and Danny L. Hinson of Alabama; two sisters, Louise Peay and Ruth Helms, both of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home of Edward O. Hinson, 3990 Ridgewood Drive.

Helen Jenkins

LANCASTER - Mrs. Helen Adams Jenkins, 77, of 1675 Hillcrest Ave. died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dale Roach officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Union, Mrs. Jenkins was a daughter of the late Clyde Columbus Adams and Ruby Smith Adams. She was the widow of Carl James Jenkins.

Mrs. Jenkins retired from Springs Industries - Grace Bleachery and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Clyde Jenkins and Mike Jenkins, both of Lancaster; four daughters, Carol Ledbetter, Dianne Watts, and Anita McManus, all of Lancaster, and Marsha Hunter of Heath Springs; her brother, Buddy Adams of Charlotte; her sister, Kate Carver of Union; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Lewis McManus Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Lewis Raymond McManus Jr., 61, of 1568 Locustwood Ave. died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Pageland, Mr. McManus was a son of Mary Catherine Ragsdale Knight of Lancaster and the late Lewis Raymond McManus Sr. Mr. McManus was a project engineer for Morrison Textile Machinery Co., a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1646, Legion of the Moose Palmetto 86 and a member of the Legion Ritual Team, American Legion Post No. 31. He served in the Navy and was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Brenda Knight McManus; two daughters, Carol A. McManus and Donna L. McManus, both of Lancaster; his two brothers, Harold S. McManus of Lancaster and Frank B. McManus of Pineville, N.C.; his sister, Louise Laney of Six Mile; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

James Morton

LANCASTER - Mr. James Garnet Morton, 77, of 726 Plantation Road died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Laurens County Hospital in Clinton.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Revs. Ernest Thompson and Samuel Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Morton was a son of the late James Sidney Morton and Lillian Stewart Morton. He was the widower of Sarah Elizabeth T. Morton.

Mr. Morton formerly was a director of internal auditing for Springs Industries. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a regional vice president and member of the board of directors of the National Institute of Internal Auditors. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his son, James T. Morton of Clinton; two sisters, Maurice Morton and Oma Evans, both of Lancaster; and two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Morton and Lucy Kennedy Morton, both of Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster chapel and other times at the home, 726 Plantation Road, Lancaster.
