Garland Parker

LANCASTER - Mr. Garland Parker, 72, of 135 Monroe Highway died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral was Wednesday at Camp Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Cecil Johnson and Lester Parrish officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Parker was a son of the late Fraymond Parker and Barbara Bolton Parker. He owned and operated Parker's Speed Sho p and was a race car driver at the Lancaster Speedway from 1954 to 1999. He served in the Navy Sea Bee's and was stationed in Guam and Saipan during World War II. He was a member of Camp Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Levon Thomas Parker; his son, Everett Neal Parker of Heath Springs; two daughters, Janice Baker of Lancaster and Shirley Caskey of Heath Springs; two brothers, Hunter Parker of Rock Hill and James Parker of Chester; four sisters, Helen Peek of Edgemoor and Inez Gaskins, Joanne Auten and Geraldine Parrish, all of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Camp Creek Baptist Church, 998 Potter Road, Lancaster SC 29720.

Geneva Street

BOSTIC, N.C. - Mrs. Geneva Quinton Street, 79, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Oak Grove Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Crowe's Mortuary and Chapel. Burial will be in Cool Springs Cemetery.

A native of Union, Mrs. Street was a daughter of the late George and Amanda Worley Quinton. She was the widow of Woodrow Street.

Surviving are her son, Alvin Street of Charlotte; three daughters, Joyce Mitchem of Forest City, N.C., Martha Hamrick of Duncan and Nancy White of Rock Hill; her brother, James Quinton of Forest City; three sisters, Maggie Ensley of Ruth, N.C., Georgia Young of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Mirth Street of Bostic; 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Rutherford County Hospice, P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043.

Crowe's Mortuary and Chapel is in charge.

Dorothy Tanner

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Dorothy Louise Crawford Tanner, 59, of 5797 Hightower Road died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at home.

The funeral services were private.

A native of Darlington, Mrs. Tanner was a daughter of the late William Henry Crawford and Oveda Elizabeth Fincher Crawford.

Surviving are her son, James Thomas Bryson of Biloxi, Miss.; four daughters, Marilyn Elizabeth Newby of Lake Butler, Fla., Tammy Roseanne Payne of Savannah, Ga., Angela Sue Crockett of Lancaster and Tonya Lynette Bryson of Fort Lawn; her brother, Don Michael Crawford of Rock Hill; six sisters, Betty Chavers of Ocala, Fla., Lowana Cook of Lancaster, Rita Crawford of Mesa, Ariz., Patricia Whitley of Fort Lawn, Tonalea Turnage of Bluffton and Mary C. Deese of Fort Lawn; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Marcia Triplett

LANCASTER - Mrs. Marcia Kozak Triplett, 51, of 1102 Crestfield Drive died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 8 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home downtown chapel, with Father William Pentis officiating.

A native of Streator, Ill., Mrs. Triplett was a daughter of Ruth Sawyer Kozak and the late Andrew Kozak. Mrs. Triplett was a homemaker. She was of the Catholic faith and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Jefferson Triplett of the home; her three daughters, Rhonda Kay Cook of Long Point, Ill., Tammy Parduba of Suffern, N.Y., and Tracy Park of Algonquin, Ill.; two brothers, Frank Kozak and Steven Kozak, both of Streator; and three sisters, Frances May of Rock Hill, Carolyn Flanary and Ruth Noel, both of Streator.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home downtown chapel and other times at the home,1102 Crestfield Drive, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mamie Brookshire

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mamie McJunkin Brookshire, 86, of 325 Walnut St. died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Memorial Park, with Dr. Sollie Hicks and the Revs. Steve Hogg and Jerry Devinney officiating.

A native of Greenville, Mrs. Brookshire was a daughter of the late Henry T. McJunkin and Eula Freeman McJunkin. She was the widow of Blease W. Brookshire. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Brookshire was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was a member of the senior choir and the Women's Circle.

Surviving are two daughters, Helen Bigham and Dorothy Turner, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Roy McJunkin and Robert McJunkin, both of Greenville; her sister, Mildred Whaley of Greenville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home, 325 Walnut St.

Olin Estes

CHESTER - Mr. Olin Estes, 64, of 2215 Pressley Road died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Greene officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mr. Estes was a son of the late Posey Estes and Carrie Estes. Mr. Estes owned Estes Well and Plumbing Service. He was an Army veteran and attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel C. Estes; his daughter, Bonie Niekirk of Chester; his son, Michael Estes of Chester; his stepson, George Larsen of Charlotte; three stepdaughters, Valerie Boone of New Orleans, Vickie Merritt of Lake Wylie and Vonnie Massey of Clover; his brother, Tom Estes of Chester; and four sisters, Gertrude Robinson of Chester, Doris Greene of Chester, Elizabeth Bernard of Richburg and Marian Allison of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Geneva Gore

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Geneva Smith Gore, 76, of 1330 India Hook Road died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with Dr. Robert D. Shrum and the Rev. Harold "Bo" Coleman officiating.

A native of Onslow, N.C., Mrs. Gore was the daughter of the late Isaac Smith and Virginia Keen Smith. She was a homemaker and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Fred Gore of Raleigh; her daughter, Brenda Gore Perrill of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the home of Peter and Brenda Perrill, 1534 Pelham Lane, Rock Hill.

Darlene Hill

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Darlene Quinn Hill, 47, of 11430 Red Hickory Lane died Monday, May 15, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church in York, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be in St. James United Methodist Church cemetery in York.

A native of Kings Mountain, N.C., Mrs. Hill was a daughter of Lawyer A. Quinn and the late Lessie Bell Tigler Quinn. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in York. Mrs. Quinn served as president of the local unit of the United Methodist Women in York.

She was a member of the District Executive Team for Rock Hill District United Methodist Women.

She served as secretary of the Administrative Council and as chairwoman of nurture and membership, She also was a member of the nominating and personnel committee at St. James, where she was appointed the first female trustee, and was a delegate to the state annual conference. Mrs. Hill was a member of Wilson Chapter No. 207, Order of Eastern Star, where she served as treasurer.

In addition to her father, surviving are two sons, Christopher Alexander Hill and Mikal Christian Hill of the home; two sisters, Yvonne Quinn of Arlington, Va., and Marlene Spencer of Clover; and two brothers, Lawyer Quinn Jr. of Homestead, Fla., and Robert Pressley Quinn of Kings Mountain.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wesley United Methodist Church, 110 W. Jefferson St., York, and at other times at the home.

Gladys Small

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Gladys Christine Smith Small, 76, of 744 Briarcliff Road died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 9 a.m. today at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. James Wood officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Small was the daughter of the late Harvey L. Smith and Jennie Long Smith. She was the widow of James Harold Small. Mrs. Small was a homemaker and was employed by Hoechst-Celanese. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her two sons, Rick Small of Rock Hill and Kimen Small of Wadena, Minn.; her daughter, Linda Small of Rock Hill; two brothers, E. B. "Toy" Smith Sr. of Rock Hill and Lewis D. Smith of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service at the home of her son, Rick Small, 399 Neely Store Road.

Arthur Smith

DIANNA, TEXAS - Mr. Arthur Joe Smith, 62, of Dianna died Sunday, May 14, 2000.

A funeral service will be today at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Dianna.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday in Rock Hill at Lesslie Church of God, with the Rev. Clarence Allen Smith officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Albert Henry Smith and Hessie Shead Worely. He was a carpenter and a fisherman.

Surviving are his two daughters, Teresa Smith Corder of Rock Hill and Kayla Smith of Texas; seven sons, Bobby Joe Smith of Rock Hill, Donald Wayne Smith of Athens, Ga., Terry Michell Smith of Lancaster, Richard Glenn Smith of York and Arthur Joe Smith Jr., Henry Smith and Daniel Lee Smith, all of Texas; three brothers, Archie Brown Smith of Pelion, Clarence Henry Smith of Rock Hill and Claude Allen Smith of Fort Lawn; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the memorial.

William Stroud

LANCASTER - Mr. William Calvin Stroud, 62, of 1743 Theron Circle died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at home.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartley Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Bob Owens officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Stroud was the son of the late William Thomas Stroud and Brinnie Jenkins Stroud. He retired from Springs Industries and the National Guard Reserve. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Starnes Stroud; his son, William Boyd "Punkie" Stroud of Monroe, N.C.; his daughter, Carol Stroud Meadows of Lancaster; three brothers, Larry B. Stroud, Robert C. "Bob" Stroud and Thomas R. Stroud, all of Lancaster; two sisters, Mildred S. Crook of Kershaw and Nancy S. Starnes of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home.

Taryn Aldridge

ROCK HILL - Taryn Ande Nicole Aldridge of 258 Robinson St., infant daughter of Benjamin J. and Sheryl Aldridge, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral Mass will be 12 noon Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home, with Father Joe Pierce officiating and the Rev. Dr. Oliver Dorsey assisting.

Burial will be at Barber Memorial cemetery.

Surviving, in addition to the parents, are her paternal grandmother, Margaret Aldridge of Rock Hill; her maternal grandparents, Clarence Anderson Jr. and Helena Anderson of Rock Hill; her paternal great-grandparents, Leroy and Doretha Aldridge of Rock Hill; and her maternal great-grandmothers Icelean J. Porter of Rock Hill and Dorothy D. Anderson of Cornelia, Ga.

The family will receive friends 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Margaret Alfred

LANCASTER - Mrs. Margaret Helen Withrow Alfred, 78, of 1114 Marion St. died Friday, May 19, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with Bill Summer officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Ky.

A native of Kanawha, W.Va., Mrs. Alfred was a daughter of the late Parrish Withrow and Icey Bitty Hartney Withrow. She was the widow of Willard "Bill" Alfred. She was the former co-owner of Rail Line Restaurant from 1977 to 1987 and attended Open Door Fellowship Church.

Surviving are four sons, Al Warner Jr. of Carlisle, Ky., Alvin "Al" Warner of Columbia, Adrian Warner of Chester and William "Bill" Warner of Rock Hill; two daughters, Frances Atkins of Lancaster and Belle Willson of Rock Hill; two brothers, Dayton Withrow and Jewel Withrow, both of Charleston, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to a charity of one's choice.
