William Hensley

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Mr. William Ford Hensley, 83, of 8 Maple Crescent died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Cemetery in Asheville, with Gary Bennett, Asheville Central Branch president of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, presiding.

A native of Escota, N.C., Mr. Hensley was the son of the late Sewell Brownlow and Nancy Cordelia Shelton Hensley. He was the widower of Olivia Bowers Hensley Terry.

Mr. Hensley was an employee of Kendall Corp., where he worked as an electrical engineer. He also was an engineer for American Enka Corp. until his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a former member of the Royal Pines Ward in Sarden N.C., the First and Second Wards in Spartanburg, and served as a high priest at the Asheville Central Branch.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie Rose Hensley of Asheville; three sons, William Eugene "Bill" Hensley of Brigham City, Utah, James Allen "Jim" Hensley of Fletcher, N.C., and Marion Douglas "Doug" Hensley of Asheville; his daughter, Carol Ann Hensley Bennett of Asheville; his sister, Martha Elvarie Curry of Rock Hill; fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Gary and Carol Ann Bennett, 26 Maple Crescent, Asheville.

Memorials may be made to Aston Park Health Care Center, 380 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

Groce Funeral Home of Asheville is in charge.

Robert Hicks

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert C. Hicks, 79, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Westminster Towers.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Padgett King Chapel, with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Burial will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery.

A native of Rutherford County, N.C., Mr. Hicks was the son of the late Wayne and Lorena Kendrick Hicks. He was the widower of Madge Jackson Hicks. Mr. Hicks was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church.

Surviving are three brothers, Benjamin D. Hicks of Greensboro, N.C., Joseph S. Hicks of Rock Hill and Clyde V. Hicks of Monroe N.C.; and his sister, Edith McGuirt of Florence.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Padgett & King Mortuary, 227 E. Main St., Forest City, NC.

Memorials may be made to Florence Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 S. Broadway St., Forest City, NC 28043.

Carl Long

SILVERSTREET - Mr. Carl E. Long died May 21, 2000, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Silverstreet Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Silverstreet, Mr. Long was the son of the late L. Edgar and Fannie Harmon Long. He was a retired parts manager at Johnson Motors Inc. and a former member of the Silverstreet Fire Department. He was also a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Long was a 1941 cum laude graduate of Newberry College and a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his two daughters, Barbara L. Stanford of Chesapeake, Va., and Beth L. Dills of Rock Hill; his son, Larry Long of Clinton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 today at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Barbara McManus

FORT MILL - Mrs. Barbara Ann Louthan McManus, 39, of 223 Pineview Court died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home.

A native of Richland, Va., Mrs. McManus was the daughter of the late Henry Louthan and Thelma Louise Kell Louthan.

She was an employee of Duracell in Lancaster. She attended First Baptist Church in Fort Mill.

Surviving are her husband, Larry Wayne McManus Sr. of Lancaster; two sons, Wayne McManus Jr. of Fort Mill and Travis McManus of Lancaster; her daughter, Joni McManus of Lancaster; six brothers, Jim Louthan of Hartford, Conn., Roy Louthan, Bobby Louthan and Joe Louthan, all of Rock Hill, Ronald Louthan of Fort Mill and Randy Louthan of Kershaw; two sisters, Dorothy Weidman of Statesville, N.C., and Mary Meacham of Fort Mill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home of Evelyn McManus, 120 Elm St., Fort Mill.

Polly McManus

LANCASTER - Mrs. Polly Stacks McManus, 85, of 1718 Baker St. died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. today at White Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Paul Smith and Elton Lane officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. McManus was the daughter of the late Reece Stacks and Nettie Hunter Stacks. She was the widow of Henry Toy McManus.

Mrs. McManus was retired from Springs Industries Cafeteria and was a member of the White Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, H. T. "Shine" McManus Jr., Joe McManus and James McManus, all of Lancaster; her daughter, Doris Hudson of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to White Springs Baptist Church Family Life Center Fund, 1249 Grace Ave., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Melissa Fisher

CHARLOTTE - Ms. Melissa "Lisa" Frances Fisher, 26, of 14049 Queen's Harbor Road, formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Revs. Barry and Judy Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Ms. Fisher is the daughter of Don and Elizabeth Fisher of Lancaster. Ms. Fisher was employed at Griffie's Gym. She attended Shekinah Church in Rock Hill. She was a physical trainer and attended Rock Hill High School.

Surviving, in addition to her parents are, two sisters, Jaclyn Fisher of Lancaster and Beth Fisher of Rockingham, N.C.; and her brother, Matthew E. Fisher of Augusta, Ga.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home-Downtown Chapel.

Nancy Odom

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nancy Jane "Mama-Nan" Odom, 96, of 713 Clarinda St. died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert C. Brown officiating and Dr. John McCoy and the Revs. E.E. Vance, Robert Lindsay and Robert Odom assisting.

Mrs. Odom was a native of Rock Hill and the widow of Isadore Odom. She was a homemaker and a member of New Zion Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Union Aide Society No. 3, the AP Society, the Missionary Society and a member of the Hymn Choir for 52 years. She attended the York County schools.

Surviving are her son, Kelly Alexander Johnson of New York.; her sister, Marie Alexander of Rock Hill; 25 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 51 great-great-grandchildren; and two caregivers, Walter Erby of Rock Hill and Lucille Young of York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the church and other times at the home.

The body may be placed in the church 2 p.m. Wednesday and viewed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Funeral Home.

Jessie Rollins

LANCASTER - Mrs. Jessie Faye Cauthen Rollins, 69, of 3093 Unity Church Road died Monday, May 22, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Camp Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cecil N. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Rollins was the daughter of the late Ben and Maurice Catoe Adams. She was the widow of Edward Cauthen and Lex Rollins.

She was a retired employee of Lance and a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda C. Hodge of Lancaster and Karen Moore of Indian Trail, N.C.; her son, James Edward Cauthen of Lancaster; four sisters, Dot Puco of Great Falls and Ann Ghent, Alice Steele and Eunice Plyler, all of Lancaster; her brother, T.J. Adams of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3093 Unity Church Road, Lancaster.

Memorials will be made to Camp Creek Baptist Church, 998 Potter Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Joseph Taylor

LANCASTER - Mr. Joseph Oscar Taylor, 82, of 1364 Grace Ave. died May 21, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Jack Hudson and Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Kershaw County, Mr. Taylor was the son of the late Henry Taylor and Rosa Lee Baker Taylor. He was the widower of Gladys Ellis Taylor.

He retired from Pine Cone Mills. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of White Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Joseph Oscar Taylor of Virginia; three daughters, Patricia Hathcock of Rock Hill, Frances Maxine Stein of Lancaster and Janice Taylor Shook of Kershaw; his sister, Ella Mae Walden of Lancaster; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to White Springs Baptist Church, Family Center, 1249 Grace Ave., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Daisy Thacker

YORK - Miss Daisy Lee Thacker, 45, of 294 Old Pinckney Road died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York, with the Rev. Terry Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Newberry, Miss Thacker was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen Renwrick Thacker. Miss Thacker was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church and a 1974 graduate of York Comprehensive High School.

Surviving are four brothers, Ervin Renwrick Sr. of Newberry, James Thacker and Etholia Thacker, both of York, and Sylvester Thacker of Clover; three sisters, Shirley Renwrick, Bernice Williams and Rayona Thacker, all of the home; and her nephew, whom she helped rear, Ervin Renwrick Jr. of Norfolk, Va.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Sam Wells

ROCK HILL - Mr. Sam Robert Wells, 73, of 127 Murrah Drive died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating.

A native of Williamsburg County, Mr. Wells is the son of the late James Wells and Kate Burns Wells. He was a retiree of J.P. Stevens Industrial Plant and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are four sons, David Wells and Roger Wells, both of Rock Hill, and Ricky Wells and Robert D. Wells Sr., both of Catawba; his daughter, Denise Browning of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Nancy Thomasson of Rock Hill; three brothers, Dan Wells and Gurnie Wells, both of Newberry, and Harry Wells of Raleigh, N.C.; five sisters, Evelyn McGee and Idell Moore, both of Rock Hill, Louise Taylor of Newberry and Nell Gardner of Matthews, N.C., and Sarah Burris of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and at other times at the home of his stepdaughter, Nancy Thomasson, 1140 Neely Store Road, Rock Hill.

Barbara McManus
