Norman Crouch Jr.

CHESTER - Mr. Norman Frank Couch Jr., 56, of 313 Kelsey St. died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Roddey officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. Crouch was a son of Norman Frank Crouch Sr. and the late Dorothy Varnadore Crouch. He was retired from Springs Industries, attended Chester County schools and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his father is his brother, Bobby R. Crouch of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Floyd Huntsinger

CHESTER - Mr. Floyd James Huntsinger, 64, of 552 Fourth St. died Wednesday, May 31, 2000.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chip Sneed officiating.

A native of Union, Mr. Huntsinger was a son of the late Walter Gay Huntsinger and Kamoe Elizabeth Raines Huntsinger. He was retired from Springs Industries and attended Union County schools.

Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Montgomery of Lancaster and Wanda Bennett of Richburg; two brothers, Leo Huntsinger of Chester and John Hawkins of Knoxville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home.

Arthur Ligon Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Arthur L. Ligon Sr., 65, of 278 Green Bay Drive died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at home.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Tirzah ARP Church Cemetery, with Pastor Walter Clark officiating. Burial will follow.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Ligon was the son of the late Robert M. Ligon and Lilly Jackson Ligon.

He retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. after 35 years of service, was a past president and vice-president of Local 710 of the ACTUAW. He also was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Pansy White Ligon of the home; his son, Robert Ligon of Pineville N.C.; his daughter, Mary Jane Griffin of Charlotte; two sisters, Emma Williford and Alice Lee, both of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the graveside service and other times at the home.

Memorials may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 212634, Columbia, SC 29221-2634.

R. Harley Mackintosh

ROCK HILL - Dr. Robert Harley Mackintosh, 80, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The committal service will be 1:30 p.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Roy Beckham officiating.

A native of McClellanville, Dr. Mackintosh was a son of the late David McNab Mackintosh and the late Mamie Peacock Mackintosh.

A graduate of Rock Hill High School and Clemson University, Dr. Mackintosh also was an Emory University Dental School honor graduate.

He retired from dentistry in 1987 after 43 years and was a member of the OKU Dental Honor Society, the SC Dental Society, the Tri-County Dental Society, the Central District Dental Society and the American Dental Society. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and Elks Club and served as a deacon of the First Associate Reformed Pres-byterian Church.

He also was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Fewell Mackintosh; three sons, Richard Fewell Mackintosh of Greer, Robert H. Mackintosh Jr. of Columbia and John D. Mackintosh of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service in the parlor of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 3114, Rock Hill, SC 29731 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Alice Sadler

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mrs. Alice Meeks Sadler, 78, of 101 Lafette Ave., Apt. 3A, formerly of York, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at the Green Park Care Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. S. Franklin II officiating and the Rev. Dr. George W. Sadler as eulogist. Burial will be at Fishing Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of York, Mrs. Sadler was a daughter of the late Milas Meeks and Pearlie Thompson Meeks. She was a homemaker and was a member of Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church. She was affiliated with Our Lady Victory Catholic Church in Brooklyn. After graduating from Jefferson High School in York, she attended Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill. She was the widow of George W. Sadler Sr.

Surviving are three sons, the Rev. Dr. George Sadler Jr. of Tampa, Fla., the Rev. Terrance V. Sadler of York and James Sadler of Brooklyn.

The family will receive friends at the home of Terrance Sadler, Spruce Street, York.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 8 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

Esther Bailey

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Esther Patton Bailey, 93, of 618 Charlotte Ave. died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Neely's Creek ARP Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeannie Bickett officiating.

A native of Catawba, Mrs. Bailey was the daughter of the late Robert W. Patton and Esther Sharpe Betts.

She was a member of Neely's Creek ARP Church. She was retired from the payroll department at Rock Hill Printing Finishing Co.

Surviving are her daughter, Bette Jo B. Culp of Fort Mill; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Neely's Creek ARP Church or to the charity of one's choice.

Oscar Boatwright

FORT MILL - Mr. Oscar Miller Boatwright, 71, of 107 Phil Court died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Robert C. Monson and Joe Tysinger officiating. Burial will be in the Unity Cemetery.

A native of Waxhaw N.C., Mr. Boatwright was the son of the late Charles C. Boatwright and Mary E. Steele Boatwright.

He was a retired supervisor of preparation for Springs Industries. He also was a supervisor for Leroy Springs Recreation Department. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Fort Mill and of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Merritt Boatwright; two daughters, Gayle Sweatt of Fort Mill and Debbie Hudspeth of Chester; two stepsons, Larry Spinks of Fort Mill and Danny Spinks of Nashville, Tenn; two brothers, Samuel B. Boatwright and Charles S. Boatwright, both of Waxhaw; his sister, Linda B. Whitaker of Matthews N.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home.

James Bennett

YORK - Mr. James Arthur Bennett, 68, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Terre Haute, Ind., Mr. Bennett was the son of the late Earl Bennett and Gladys Gregory Bennett. He was retired from the National Cash Register Co. and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Bennett; his daughter, Linda Juberg of Streamwood, Ill.; his sister, Lorelee Overpeck of Manchester, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Karen O'Neal of Cincinnati and Patricia Martinez of Romeoville, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Max Caldwell

ROCK HILL - Mr. Max A. Caldwell, 57, of 1013 Martin Ave. died Monday, May 29, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Thompson officiating and the Revs. Osbey Roddey and Herman Caldwell assisting.

A native of Chester, Mr. Caldwell was the son of the late Willie Frank Caldwell and Nora Roddey Caldwell.

Surviving are five sisters, Parthenia C. Jones and Barbra C. Paige, both of Newark, N.J., Claretta C. King of Irvington, N.J., Valerie C. Brownlee of Springdale, Md., and Marilyn Caldwell of Rock Hill; and seven brothers, Clifford L. Caldwell of Plymouth, N.C., Barron S. Caldwell of Chandler, Ariz., and Willie C. Caldwell, Roddey B. Caldwell, Maynard E. Caldwell, the Rev. Herman J. Caldwell and Dennis J. Caldwell, all of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at 1013 and 1022 Martin Ave., Rock Hill.

Eda Carothers

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Eda F. Carothers, 90, of Magnolia Manor Nursing Home died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Sanders officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Carothers was the daughter of the late Ben Fewell and Esther Dixon Fewell. She was the widow of John Carothers.

Mrs. Carothers was a homemaker.

Surviving is her son, Sylvester Carothers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Robinson Funeral home and other times at the home.

Kenneth Hackbarth

ROCK HILL - Mr. Kenneth Franklin Hackbarth, 89, of 1920 Ebenezer Road, Sterling House, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Sterling House, with the Rev. Shelton Sanford officiating.

A native of Nyach N.Y., Mr. Hackbarth was the son of the late Franklin Hackbarth and Ida Entwhistle Hackbarth. He worked as a supervisor with the New York Telephone Co. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a Mason. He was also an avid ham radio operator.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Wistrand Hackbarth; two daughters, Joan Brauninger of Rock Hill and Carol Ryan of Oak Hill, Va.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Charles Smart

YORK - Mr. Charles Dean Smart, 40, of 927 Hunter St. died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, with the Rev. Rick Martin officiating.

A native of York, Mr. Smart was the son of Peggy Stewart Smart of York and the late Charles Robert Smart. He worked as an insulator for Spencer Insulation Co.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his daughter, Sommer Smart of York; his sister, Teresa Smart Patterson of Rock Hill; his half-sister, Cindy Hord of Rock Hill; his paternal grandmother, Mary Smart of York; and his maternal grandmother, Louise Stewart of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.
