Nina Howard

CLOVER - Mrs. Nina Stowe Bankhead Howard, 62, of 315 Frontier Road died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with Dr. Milton Key officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Howard was a daughter of the late Samuel Stowe and Lillie Stowe. She attended the public schools of Clover and was a graduate of Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill and Cortez Peters Business School in Baltimore. Mrs. Howard worked at Meadow Brook Hospital in Staten Island, N.Y., and was a retired teacher assistant at Clover Middle School. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer of the mass choir. She was a deaconess and was a member of the missionary board.

Surviving are her husband, Carl Lee Howard Sr.; two sons, Robert Erwin Bankhead and Marcus D. Bankhead, both of Clover; two stepsons, Carl Lee Howard Jr. and James Deon Howard, both of Charlotte; three stepdaughters, Lavonne Bankhead Anderson of Lexington, Zynobia Briggs of Charlotte, Eugenia Witts of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, the Rev. James L. Stowe of Salisbury, N.C. and Emanuel Stowe of Kannapolis, N.C.; and three sisters, Martha Stowe Tate of Gastonia, N.C., and Esther Stowe Davis and Elizabeth Stowe Johnson, both of Clover.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 tonight at Generation Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Generation Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Adrianne Kneece

JAMAICA, N.Y. - Ms. Adrianne Kneece died Monday, June 5, 2000.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Greenhill Cemetery in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Ray Thompson officiating.

A native of Jamaica, Ms. Kneece was a daughter of Eleanor Miller and Ancil Kneece Sr.

She was a member of James Chapel Baptist Church in Fort Mill. She was a member of Far Rockaway Cathedral in Far Rockaway, N.Y.

Surviving are two sons, Dontae Kneece and Hakeem Kneece, both of Jamaica; her daughter, Nawana Kneece of Jamaica; and her brother, Ancil Kneece Jr. of Fort Mill.

Clemons Funeral Home is in charge.

Betty Lee

FORT MILL - Mrs. Betty Elms Lee, 82, of 10046 Harrisburg Road died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Benny Wade, Ralph Riley and Steve Jacks officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Hopewell, Va., Mrs. Lee was a daughter of the late John William Elms and Annie Elizabeth Fitchett Elms. Mrs. Lee was a 1934 graduate of Indian Land High School and a graduate of Geyer Business School in Charlotte. Mrs. Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Greg Lee of Fort Mill; two sons, Harold Lee of Howard, Calif., and Andrew Alex Leventis of Vancouver, Wash.; her daughter, Cheryl L. Walker of Columbia; four siblings, Sidney Elms, Douglas Elms and Marie Meeks, all of Fort Mill and J.W. Elms of Greensboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 121 Monroe White St., Fort Mill, SC.

Margaret McCarthy

CHESTER - Mrs. Margaret Watts McCarthy, 71, of 1081 Beltline Road died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, N.C., with the Rev. David Cartwright officiating.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. McCarthy was adaughter of the late Clifford Watts and Celeste McMahon Watts. She was retired from Southern Bell and was the widow of William Blair McCarthy.

Surviving are her son, Michael Blair McCarthy of Hickory, N.C.; three daughters, Teresa Lamm of Clover, Cynthia McKinney of Chester and Melissa M. Eubanks of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.

Ethel McCaslan

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Ethel McCaslan died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at University Hospital.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta.

A native of Augusta, Mrs. McCaslan was a retired postal clerk and was a member of Central Christian Church. She was also a member of the sewing club.

Surviving are her son, Mickey McCaslan of Fort Mill; her daughter, Lynda Andrews of Augusta; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 today at Platt's Funeral Home in Augusta.

Elsie Plyler

LANCASTER - Mrs. Elsie Ham-mond Wright Plyler, 80, of 2506 Morningside Drive died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Revs. Harold Owens, Curtis Cameron and Mendel Baker officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Plyler was a daughter of the late Raleigh E. Hammond and Elsie Mae Williams Hammond. She was the widow of William E. Wright and William V. Plyler. Mrs. Plyler retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are her two daughters, Barbara Blakley and Kathie Baker, both of Lancaster; four sisters, Iris Perry, Lucille Barfield, Serena Gardner and Myrtle Knight, all of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church building fund, 2540 New Hope Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Leila Trivette

ROCK HILL - Miss Leila Yvonne Trivette, 59, of 3115 Denwood Lane died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakland Avenue Pres-byterian Church, with the Rev. Susan Denne officiating. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Kinsport, Tenn.

A native of Grange Hall, Tenn., Miss Trivette was a daughter of Chester Draper and Edith Cox Trivette. She was a graduate of South Dobyns Bennett High School and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where she studied piano. She was an office administrator for the Arizona Department of Public Health and a member of the Catstone Cathedral Church in Phoenix, where she taught Sunday school for more than 20 years.

Surviving are her sister, Sue T. Summers of Rock Hill; two nephews; four nieces; three great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

William White Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. William P. "Bill" White Sr., 80, of Gillsbrook Road, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. Roy Barnes officiating.

A native of Mecklenburg County, Mr. White was ason of the late Arthur White and Edna Parks White. Mr. White was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" McManus White of Lancaster; his son, William Parks "Billy" White Jr. of Lancaster; his daughter, Patsy Rivers of Columbia; his half-sister, Mrs. John McGloughlin of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 S. Market St., Lancaster, SC 29720 or to a charity of one's choice.

Clyde White

CHESTER - Mr. Clyde Madison White, 79, of 1366 Darby Road died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Cleveland County, N.C., Mr. White was a son of the late Esper White and Leila Cook White. He was retired farmer and member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Rita W. White; four daughters, Karen Hutto, Belinda McKee and Debbie Fougerousse, all of Chester, and Tammy Britton of Lancaster; two brothers, Roy White and Howard White, both of Shelby, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home.

Charles Bailey

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Edward Bailey, 63, of 5755 Adicks Court died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at York Church of God. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mr. Bailey was a son of the late Milton Bailey and Elizabeth Grant Bailey. He was a member of York Church of God and was a driver for Star Paper Tube Co.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Lyons Bailey; five sons, Edward Bailey, Mark Bailey, David Bailey, Mickey Bailey and Darrell Johnson, all of Rock Hill; two daughters, Pattie Lee Duncan and Rhonda Gail Bailey, both of Rock Hill; his brother, Malcolm Bailey of Chester; two sisters, Myrtle Bailey and Martha Brakefield, both of Chester; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Mary Bond

CHESTER - Mrs. Mary Earline Cannon Bond, 89, of 140 Crestwood Drive died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chester, with the Rev. Thomas Morrison and Deacon Jon Dwyer officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Elmwood Avenue, Columbia.

A native of Columbia, Mrs. Bond was a daughter of the late Earl O. Cannon and Mary Heidt Cannon. She was a homemaker and was a graduate of St. Peter's School. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chester.

Surviving are her son, Dr. James G. Bond of Rock Hill; her daughter, Anne B. Peterson of Chester; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Nell Clanton

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nell Brigman Clanton, 86, of No. 6 Cauthen St. died Monday, June, 12, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Sosebee officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Clanton was a daughter of the late James Oscar Brigman and Margaret Emma Jones Brigman. She was the widow of Willie Ray "Will" Clanton Sr. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmy D. Clanton of Catawba and Willie R. "Bill" Clanton Jr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Shirley F. Clanton of Pineville, N.C.; her sister, Louise B. Sellers of Chesterfield; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Estelle Connor

HICKORY, N.C. - Mrs. Estelle Genola Brown Connor, 87, of Hickory, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Pelltell Nursing Center in Hickory.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul AME Zion Church in Hickory, with the Rev. I. Melvin Peay officiating and the Rev. R. Z. Bauiley assisting. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Born in Camden, Mrs. Connor was a daughter of the late Rev. Walter L. Brown and Sarah J. Stevenson Brown. She was the widow of Earnest Connor. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul AME Zion Church and the missionary circle. She attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are three sons, Cleve B. Brown of Chester, Melvin Connor of Oxon, Md., and Jeffery Connor of Hickory; two daughters, Elaine C. Witherspoon and Linda F. Connor, both of Hickory; two brothers, W.L. Brown of Laurinburg, N.C., and Calvin Brown of Chester; her sister, Ola B. Mayfield Degraffereid of Chester; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
